Lisbon is a privileged platform to 500 million European consumers, offering modern transportation and logistics infrastructures, such as state of the art ports, railroads and highways, giving good investment opportunities. Lisbon also has a deep economic and cultural relation with Portuguese speaking emergent economies like Angola, Brazil and Mozambique, with 250 million consumers. We have established double taxation agreements and transport connections with those markets, and all the major Portuguese companies are already working there. Therefore, Lisbon is the ideal location for businesses that are targeted to the Portuguese speaking countries markets. Lisbon is at the same time zone of London, with an international airport close to the center of the city, and first class internet services and all this at the most competitive costs in Europe.

LISBON - ENGINE OF A METROPOLITAN REGION
The city has a special commitment in supporting and attracting talents, enterprises and investments. We work everyday to make Lisbon a business friendly place with plenty of opportunities for investors. Because companies are made of people, Lisbon has an unparalleled quality of life that makes it very attractive for talents and top managers and their families: international schools, a mild climate, an unique luminosity, hospitable people, diverse landscape, and an original gastronomy with a Mediterranean flavor. Lisbon is the European city capital with the highest number of golf courses and beaches, only 15 minutes away from the city’s centre. It´s probably the only European city capital where people can go surfing at lunch time. To an amazing quality of life, we add a second important factor to attract companies: a very special geographic position in global economy.

LISPOLIS – LISBON INNOVATION & TECHNOLOGY PARK
LISPOLIS is the major science and technological park in Lisbon. Lisbon City Council presented a new agenda - "Lispolis: a new Strategic Ambition" - including five strategic priorities: internationalization, investment, entrepreneurship, knowledge and networks. It also includes a new communication and branding strategy aiming to increase now the visibility of Lispolis at a national and international scale. This strategic agenda was approved by the General Assembly and Scientific Council of Lispolis in December 2012. It is intended to create an "Innovation Hub", based on structural movements, “anchor” actors, integrating programmes, complementary projects and strategic projects that will make Lispolis an area of reference. Lispolis has all the conditions to become a territory of excellence that will foster the synergy and growth of enterprises and scientific and technological organizations and institutions, and strengthen their distinctive capacities, thus catalyzing Lisbon’s overall economic development and competitive advantages.

It is important to collaborate with the companies within the city, specially in the areas of more competitiveness. The logic of articulation of clusters is an efficient instrument for the concentration of resources and funding. We want that the strategic sectors for the city consolidate and renew continuously, ensuring the dissemination / transfer of knowledge and know-how. The starting point for the approach to the strategic sectors in Lisbon is based on a common methodology that includes indictors and the mapping of its major actors. The strategic partners actively participate in the development, validation and discussion of the programmes and initiatives for each sector.

A city of INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGIES, SOFTWARE AND INTERNET Lisbon - the city and metropolitan area - has been very attractive to the installation of companies from the ICT sectors, as also as the Software industry and all companies in the Internet, as well as companies in the areas of Media and Audiovisual. 61% of the total ICT employment in Portugal is located in the Lisbon metropolitan area (source: INE, 2011). Companies such as Accenture, Microsoft, Teleperformance, Cisco, Nokia-Siemens, ASUS, ONI, Xerox, Epson, ZTE, LibertàGià, Hitachi Consulting and others were established or expanded in Lisbon during the last months. The distribution of the sub-sectors shows the predominance of the telecommunication services, consulting and software production. Many ICT events were organized in the city, including the Lisbon BIG APPS. The incubator Startup Lisboa Tech has a key-role in this sector. Until March 2013, start-ups located in this incubator had a total turnover of 3 millions Euros.
A CREATIVE CITY The Lisbon area is the most creative one in Portugal. About 40% of creative employment and 60% of GVA are generated here by almost 22000 companies of this the industry. Lisbon has all the conditions to assume the role of a creative city, not only on a national scale, but especially on a European and global scale. It´s a multicultural and transcultural city, welcoming immigrants and visitors; these are factors that should also be used to enhance the attractiveness of talent. Lisbon creative economy blueprint: http://www.cross-innovation.eu/proud-to-present-the-lisbon-creative-economy-book/news/
A city of MARITIME ECONOMY If you are an investor, Lisbon offers a diverse set of values (natural, historical, material and immaterial) that provide resources for a wide range of economic activities. Its 19 km coastline and its port with excellent conditions and with a multidisciplinary functional profile (container terminal, cruises, fishing harbours, marinas, shipyards, beaches) make Lisbon a place of excellence to ensure success for the maritime companies. With several universities and scientific and technological research centres, Lisbon guarantees outstanding conditions for the development of products and services (biotechnology, marine microbiology, marine safety and biodiversity) of the knowledge-based economy. The headquarters of the European Maritime Safety Agency are located in Lisbon and the city is the host of some of the most important nautic events (Volvo Ocean Race, Tall Ships Race and others).

Also the fact that Lisbon is living a deep transformation process in its hospitals network- with the closure of old hospitals located in central areas of the city and the opening of a large central hospital - will be an important “anchor” for the city to attract a diverse range of business and research actors in different areas of health sciences (pharmaceutical, biotechnology, pharmacogenomics, medical equipment and instruments, medical clinics, among others). LISBON CREATIVE ECONOMY
One of the emerging sectors in the city of Lisbon is undoubtedly the Creative Economy, understood here as an economic sector central to the city, crossing different economic, sociocultural and technological dimensions and being developed by numerous actors in constant dialogue and transformation. There are being developed interactive processes between the private and public initiative that can result in win-win situations and Lisbon City Council wishes to make more visible the dynamics of the creative economy and continue to be an enabler for the interaction between its own activities, with private institutions and other public institutions.
