AGENDO A message from the Headmaster of Camberwell Grammar School The Agendo Art Competition was conceived to support young artists in a practical and meaningful way. The commitment to ‘be an artist’ is one which requires courage and determination and persistence. It also requires a belief that Art is valuable and has worth – a belief which is not always easy to maintain in the face of the commercial realities of life. This competition was designed to support that belief and to provide some financial space in which future work can be created. The Arts have always held an important place within our School, and we have always encouraged our students to explore their own artistic dimensions. This competition represents an attempt to reach out to the world beyond the school and to support artistic endeavour of young adults in a practical and useful way. In these times of Covid, it is harder than ever for artists to make their way. At the same time, we have also seen how important the arts are in helping us to deal with lockdowns and other crises. We turn to the arts in difficult times to give us comfort and hope, and to express what cannot be expressed in words. We are again fortunate to be supported by Peter Crone’s family who have so generously provided the $10,000 prize that will be awarded to the winning artist. We also remember Peter and his support of the arts, and particularly young artists, and his belief that sometimes artists just need a boost to keep going and to keep making art. We are thrilled that this competition continues in his memory. And we are thrilled that artists from all over Australia have accepted our invitation and provided us with a wonderfully diverse and exciting exhibition. I invite you to enjoy the results of this ambitious project in the 2021 Agendo Art Award Finalists’ Exhibition.

Welcome to the eighth Biennial Agendo Art Award and Exhibition for young emerging artists. Agendo is an opportunity for young emerging artists to promote and expose their work and talent. In addition, this substantial award recognises the continued commitment and individual contribution that all young artists make to our community. Agendo is a non-acquisitive prize of $10,000 sponsored by The Crone Family. In addition to this prize, a work will be selected for purchase to remain in the permanent collection of Camberwell Grammar School. In this, the eighth Agendo Exhibition, we have again been thrilled by the response and the standard and range of entries that we have received. This re-affirms our decision to establish Agendo as a highly regarded event, showcasing the finest selection of emerging art by young artists in Australia.
