Day Itinerary Upon arrival at Lima airport you will be met by a Tucan Travel representative and escorted to your hotel situated next to the airport for your stopover stay.

Lima Peru’s capital is a fantastic city to tour, dotted with a multitude of cultural sites and beautifully preserved architecture. Founded by the conquistador Francisco Pizarro in 1535, Lima was first named ‘City of Kings’ – a biblical reference to the ‘Three Wise Men of the East’ – before its name was changed by the Spanish colonialists. The most significant historical buildings are located around the Plaza Mayor, the most notable being the Government Palace, where one can still observe the changing of the guard performed by the Húsares de Junín. The beautiful Cathedral and the various small palaces and colonial balconies also play also their part in the beauty of the city. Another highlight is the famed Larco Herrera Museum, documenting the millennial cultures that preceded the Inca civilization and containing a priceless collection of pre-Columbian artifacts, including some of South America's finest pre-Inca erotic pottery.

Day 2: Fri, 11 Sep

Day Itinerary You will be collected from the hotel and escorted back to the airport in Lima in time for your connecting flight to Quito. Upon arrival into Quito you will be met by your local guided and taken on a tour to the "Mitad del Mundo" or Middle of the World monument, where the equatorial line divides the northern and southern hemispheres. You will visit the main monument built in honour of the French scientific expedition that arrived in Ecuador in the XVIII century to determine the correct location of the equator line. Here you will have the opportunity to visit the Ethnographic Museum, located inside the Equator Monument, which displays the main cultures of Ecuador or visit the Inti Ñan Museum, a scientific and cultural museum, located on the exact crossing of the Equator Line. After lunch, we will head to Quito`s downtown area, one of the biggest in South America. Visit the oldest street of the city, La Ronda, that used to be the home of musicians, poets and politics back in time and the house of handicrafts. Afterwards we visit the Independence Square, surrounded by important historical buildings, such as the Cathedral (XVI Century), the Presidential Palace, El Sagrario Church (XVII Century), and La Compañia de Jesus (XVII


Page |7 Century), one of the most beautiful baroque churches in South America. Not to be missed are the Church of San Francisco and Monastery, built a few months after the arrival of the Spaniards (XVI Century). Finally, we will drive to the viewpoint at the Penecillo hill, where the statue of the virgin of Quito is located. You will have a wonderful view over the city and the surrounding mountains and volcanos. Transfer to the hotel and enjoy dinner at a local restaurant.

Quito Everything about Quito – from its setting along the slopes of Pichincha volcano to its having the best preserved, least altered historic centre in Latin America – makes it a capital city worth visiting. (The ‘old town’ as the centre is known was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1978.) Stroll along its narrow streets and enjoy the buskers, vendors and locals going about their everyday business. Visit the monasteries of San Francisco and Santa Domingo, the Church and Jesuit College of La Compañia, the Cathedral of Quito or the hill of El Panecillo where you can view the 45m high statue of the Virgin Mary. Mariscal Sucre offers a taste of modern Quito with its trendy bars, restaurants and night life.

Day Itinerary You will be transferred from your hotel to the airport for your flight to the Galapagos Islands. On arrival at Baltra Airport, you will transfer by speedboat to Isabella Island and from there you will visit the Tintoreras Islets, located a short distance from Puerto Villamil. The islands are home to a great variety of wildlife and its turquoise, crystalline waters are inhabited by white-tipped reef sharks, Galapagos penguins, marine turtles and sea lions. One of its beaches, surrounded by mangroves is one of the few sites where marine iguanas can reproduce successfully. Return to Isabela Island and check into your hotel.

Puerto Villamil The small port town of Puerto Villamil is located on the edge of Ecuador's Isabela Island. This sleepy town features small residential houses and sandy roads. Agriculture and fishing are the major economic activities of the approximately 2,200 inhabitants of the town. It is home to a number of birdlife species such as common stilts, flamingo, Bahama pintails, gallinules and whimbrels which can be found around the saltwater lagoon. Tourists can explore nearby attractions such as the Wall of Tears, the Tortoise Breeding Center, white sand beaches and a boardwalk that leads to a mangrove environment. There are also several fine restaurants offering authentic traditional cuisine as well as local markets.

Activities Tintoreras Islet The beautiful Tintoreras Islet is located near the port town of Puerto Villamil on Ecuador's Isabela Island. It is home to interesting species of marine life such as white-tipped sharks, blue-footed boobies, sea lions, marine iguanas and penguins. The bay is connected by a shallow channel of crystalline water where visitors can observe sharks and


Page |8 tropical fishes during the low tide season. Tourists can look forward to activities such as swimming, snorkelling boating and hiking.

Day 4: Sun, 13 Sep

Day Itinerary This morning set out by car to the mountain side of the Sierra Negra Volcano. You will walk for about 2 hours to reach the crater of the volcano. Enjoy the wonderful view of the crater and with a little bit of luck, you will be able to see the sparrow hawk of the Galapagos. Learn about the geology of the Sierra Negra Volcano, with most of this part of the island formed by AA lava. After lunch visit el Chico Volcano before returning to the hotel. The afternoon is at leisure to enjoy the marvelous white coral sand and turquoise waters of Isabela’s beaches.

Activities Sierra Negra Volcano A fairly active shield volcano, with a height of 1124 metres, which last erupted in Oct 2005, Sierra Negra can be visited from the town of Peurto Villamil, on its southern shore.

Day 5: Mon, 14 Sep

Day Itinerary Today visit a unique place on the islands, “Los Tuneles”. Board a speedboat for a 45-minute trip to the site. The Tunnels were formed millions year ago when rivers of liquid lava ran across the island reaching the coast. The cold water froze their superficial layer isolating the interior while liquid lava kept flowing into the sea. When the eruption finished, a hollow structure was formed and its wall later broke, allowing water inside and creating a tunnel. Your guide will join you along hundreds of tunnels snorkelling and discovering the marine life such as sharks, lobsters, penguins, sea lions, boobies, marine turtles among other endemic species. A snack will be served on board the boat before you return to Isabela. If you are lucky enough, you will have the chance to witness giant manta rays feeding in open waters on our return trip.

Activities Isabela Island Resting in the western part of the Galapagos archipelago, Isabela Island is larger than all of the rest of the islands combined. Comprising six volcanoes, the island is about 120 km long and covers 4,585 square km. The remote location of the the island’s visitor sites means that few boats frequent Isabela but visitors who do make the effort will be richly rewarded with a profusion of fascinating wildlife including large numbers of flamingos which are typically spotted at the lagoon in town or along the boardwalk to the impressive Giant Tortoise Breeding Center. Don’t miss: Concha de Perla, a natural pool which is ideal for snorkelling and interacting with sea lions; Las Tintoreras, a lagoon where white tip sharks come to rest; and Los Tuneles where you will find abundance of turtles, rays, and fish swimming in the canals and pools.

Day 6: Tue, 15 Sep

Day Itinerary Today you will take a speedboat across to Santa Cruz Island. Arriving at Puerto Ayora, take a shuttle up into the highlands of the island to enjoy the magnificent views and its green vegetation. Stop on route to visit a ranch and see Giant Tortoise in their natural habitat. This afternoon head to the Charles Darwin Station. The centre is a reservoir of information on habitats and local conservation, as well as other fascinating and relevant statistics. The most striking attraction of this station is certainly the Tortoise Breeding Centre, where it is possible to view tortoises of varied sizes and shapes. Travellers can walk around freely and get their photos taken with the tortoises. Among the inhabitants at the centre, you can also see the land and marine iguanas and different species of birds. After this visit head back to Puerto Ayora to check in at your hotel.

Puerto Ayora Situated on Santa Cruz Island of the Ecuadorian Galapagos Islands, the tourist town of Puerto Ayora is famous for its striking natural scenery, breathtaking beaches and unique history. As the biggest town in the archipelago, it is from here that many excellent cruises, diving expeditions and land based tours depart. Tortuga Bay, which rivals any South American beach, is perfect for swimming and sunbathing and also offers the chance to spot sharks, marine iguanas, pelicans and the occasional flamingo; while the Charles Darwin Research Station is home to giant tortoises. Lava tunnels and two idyllic lagoons provide further opportunities to explore. The incredible Maprae Museum uses smartphone technology and augmented reality to tell the stories of ancient pre-Columbian artefacts, and is the first of its kind in the world.

Activities Charles Darwin Research Station The Charles Darwin Research Station is involved in conservation research for the Islands. Visitors to the Station learn about natural history and issues concerning conservation of the islands like introduced species, you are also able to see the tortoises at the tortoise breeding project.


P a g e | 10 The Foundation is part of a network of local and national organizations supporting Galapagos Island protection working closely with the Galapagos National Park Service, the main government authority overseeing the safeguarding of the islands’ natural resources, providing the results of scientific research to conserve this living laboratory. Santa Cruz Island The island of Santa Cruz (Indefatigable) is home to Puerto Ayora, the largest and most developed town in the Galapagos. While many visitors use this island as merely a springboard for the more remote surrounding islands, those who dig a little deeper will discover that this island has plenty to offer. With numerous visitor sites, easily accessible beaches and remote highlands in the interior, Santa Cruz makes an excellent base for adventurous activities. The most popular attractions is undoubtedly the Charles Darwin Station which offers an impressive turtle breeding area and interesting information about the conservation of the unique biosphere of the Galapagos. Don’t miss the opportunity to swim or snorkel at one of the island’s magnificent beaches where you will find white sand and turquoise waters as well as an abundance of fascinating wildlife including: pelicans, blue-footed boobies and marine iguanas.

Day Itinerary Today you will have the opportunity to do a navigable excursion to an island nearby, in order to discover the diversity of the Galapagos Islands. The tour consists of a hike around the island and afterward, you can snorkel, swim or just relax. Based on availability we can confirm one of the following tours: Bartolome Island: Discover amazing landscapes, and fascinating geological formations, here you will have great opportunity for snorkeling. North Seymour Island: The main fauna species of this island are Land Iguanas, the Magnificent Frigate bird with their incredible scarlet regular pouch, blue-footed boobies and their particular courtship dance and sea lions surfing across the waves. South Plazas: Small island but an outstanding concentration of wildlife, dramatic cliffs, spectacular natural red carpet of algae and great contrasts to be seen. Santa Fe: This Island has a lot of diversity. The lagoons of the Santa Fe Island provide an excellent place for snorkeling alongside colorful fishes, sea lions, giant tuna and even small sharks that are often sighted in these environments.

Activities Bartolomé Island As one of the world’s foremost destinations for wildlife-viewing, this volcanic islet in the Galápagos Islands group makes an ideal stomping ground for avid nature enthusiasts. Charles Darwin was famously inspired to write his seminal work, ‘The Origin of Species’, after witnessing the veritable treasure trove of natural wonders exhibited on this extraordinary archipelago. Darwin was so intrigued by the unique landscapes, colourful rock formations and exotic wildlife of these islands that he named one of its most unusual islets after his close friend and fellow naturist, Sir Bartholomew James Sulivan. Today, Bartholomew Island is no less fascinating that is was in 1835 when Darwin first arrived. Visitors typically swim and snorkel around the iconic Pinnacle Rock where they are treated to an impressive natural world of penguins, marine turtles, white-tipped reef sharks, and other marine creatures, many of which are found nowhere else on earth. North Seymour Island Despite its small size, North Seymour Island, in the Galapagos archipelago, is certainly worth a visit for its astonishing abundance of wildlife. Visitors to the island are typically treated to the sight of sea lions riding waves all the way into shore, marine iguanas basking in the sun and flocks of pelicans and swallow tailed gulls feeding just off the coast. The island is also renowned as a natural haven for some of the most sought after residents in the Galapagos Islands, the Blue-Footed Boobie. During mating season, the island is an ideal place to witness the intriguing mating rituals for which these birds are famous. Must-see site include Bachas Beach where you can enjoy some excellent snorkelling and the island’s lagoon where you are likely to witness flocks of feeding flamingos. With its extraordinary profusion of wildlife and close proximity to Santa Cruz, North Seymour island makes an ideal destination for an adventurous day tour.

Activities Plazas Islands Set off the east coast of Santa Cruz in the Galapagos Islands, the Plazas Islands are a phenomenal haven of wildlife. Formed from lava bubbling up from the ocean floor, the ancient islands are home to prickly pear cactus trees, and brightly coloured Sesuvium, which changes from green to orange to purple, depending on the season. Visitors can marvel at the strange animals such as Red and Yellow Land Iguanas and Sally Lightfoot Crabs. The channel’s shallow waters provide a wonderful nursery for seal pups, which can be seen frolicking in the waves and playing on the shores. See famously impressive birdlife including Swallow-tailed Gulls, Red-billed Tropicbirds, Audubon’s Shearwaters, Nazca and Blue-footed Boobies, Frigates, and a variety of nesting seabirds. Tours and hikes are around two hours and suitable for all ages. Santa Fe Island Resting approximately eight miles southeast of Santa Cruz, the relatively small island of Santa Fe is one of the oldest islands in the Galapagos archipelago with rock formations below the water’s surface dating back almost four million years. The island is best known for its endemic Barrington Land Iguana as well as its towering prickly pear cacti which have been known to reach remarkable heights of up to 20 feet. The magnificent Barrington Bay is the only visitor site on the island. There are two hiking trails that start here. One leads to a scenic viewpoint atop a cliff and the other wends through a forest of gigantic opuntia cacti. The beach is popular with sea lions and is an excellent spot from which to snorkel the radiant blue-green waters. You may even spot a Galapagos green turtle gracefully swimming by.

Day 9: Fri, 18 Sep

Hotel Cabanas Pimampiro, San Cristobal Island

Day Itinerary Today transfer by speedboat to San Cristóbal Island. Your guide will then take you to visit the Interpretation Centre, where you will learn more about the origin of the archipelago, its fauna and flora, as well as the history about its first inhabitants. After that, take a hike for about 2 hours up to Frigate Hill where you will enjoy the endemic vegetation and a beautiful view of the island and its surroundings. The main attraction here are the frigate birds. At the end of the day, visit Frigate Bay and do some snorkelling before you will return to the hotel.

San Cristobal Island San Cristóbal is the easternmost island in the Galapagos archipelago as well as the most populated. The island offers unlimited opportunities for nature enthusiasts to witness some unique spectacular natural wonders. As the administrative centre of the Galapagos, the island boasts some wonderful shopping and dining opportunities as well as one of the local airports. Take a break from snorkeling and hiking to enjoy the best of Ecuadorian cuisine and to admire some of the exquisitive artwork and designs of local artisans. Must see attraction include: the Galapaguera


P a g e | 13 Tortoise Reserve; the Interpretation Center which provides important background information on the Galapagos; and Puerto Grande, a protected cove on the north-western side of the island which boasts a magnificent white sandy beach - ideal for a peaceful walk, swimming and photographic opportunities.

Activities Frigatebird Hill Frigatebird Hill is a vantage point and a bird watchers paradise, located near the fishing town of Puerto Baquerizo Moreno on Ecuador's San Cristobal Island. The site offers lovely views of Cerro Brujo beach, Kicker Rock, Tijeretas Hill and Shipwreck Bay. Frigatebird Hill has three viewing points and can be accessed by foot via a well-maintained hiking trail. It is also a nesting site for two endemic species of frigatebirds. The foot of the hill has a calm inlet where tourists can enjoy activities such as snorkelling and swimming. San Cristobal Island San Cristรณbal is the easternmost island in the Galapagos archipelago as well as the most populated. The island offers unlimited opportunities for nature enthusiasts to witness some unique spectacular natural wonders. As the administrative centre of the Galapagos, the island boasts some wonderful shopping and dining opportunities as well as one of the local airports. Day 10: Sat, 19 Sep

Hotel Cabanas Pimampiro, San Cristobal Island

Day Itinerary Today you will leave early in the morning to take the boat out to visit Kicker Rock, which is known as one of the best places for snorkelling and diving in the Galapagos Islands. Here you will be able to see sharks, rays and many different types of fish. After the snorkelling, visit one of the following beaches (depending on local conditions): Playa Ochoa, Playa Puerto Grande or Playa Mangelito. In the afternoon return to San Cristobal and enjoy the rest of the day at leisure.

Activities Kicker Rock Two huge towering monoliths of basalt stand adjacent, rising out of the sea. This spot, frequented by nature orientated cruises, is the best known dive site of San Cristobal, where the list of exotic fish and other marine life one might spot amongst the schools of hammerhead sharks is seemingly endless.

Day 11: Sun, 20 Sep

Day Itinerary Today transfer to the airport for your flight back to Quito. On arrival in Quito collect your luggage and make your way to the international departure hall for your check in to your flight to Lima. Upon arrival at Lima airport, you will be met by a Tucan Travel representative and escorted to your hotel situated next to the airport for your overnight stay. Note: Lunch and Dinner are not included on this day.

Day 12: Mon, 21 Sep

Inkaterra Guides Field Station, Puerto Maldonado

Day Itinerary You will be collected from the hotel and escorted back to the airport in Lima in time for your connecting flight to Puerto Maldonado. On arrival at Puerto Maldonado airport, you will be transferred to the local office. Here you can repack your luggage if necessary, as there is a 10-15kg luggage limit on the boat. We recommend bringing a small day pack to take only the necessary things for the 2-night stay. The remaining luggage will be left at the office in secure storage. Depart for Inkaterra Guides Field Station on a 50min motorised boat ride down the Madre de Dios River through the heart of the jungle surrounded by flora, fauna and breathtaking scenery. Arrive at the station and settle into your rooms. Enjoy lunch and a short rest before joining your guide for a walk through the Inkaterra Guides Field Station's exclusive trails to explore the rainforest ecosystems at the Inkaterra Ecological Reserve, where 540 bird species, 362 ant species (world record) and over 100 mammal species have been registered. In the evening enjoy a river night watch. Cruise on the Madre de Dios River in search of the wildlife that surfaces during nighttime. Identify the behaviour of various animals such as capybaras, white caimans and nightjars, as they take advantage of the dark to roam around the Amazonian riverbanks. Return to the station for dinner.

Puerto Maldonado While it’s primarily a kick-off point to some of Peru’s most pristine Amazon jungle destinations, Puerto Maldonado’s laid back atmosphere, vibrant nightlife and unique gritty flavour is making it an increasingly popular tourist hub. It’s a bustling town that offers easy access to the virgin jungle along the Tambopata River, and in the Inketerra Ecological Reserve, Bahuaja-Sonene National Park, and Tambopata National Reserve. These protected areas encompass some


P a g e | 15 of the most pristine primary rainforests on the planet, and are home to an astonishing array of exotic animals, birds, trees and flowers.

Day 13: Tue, 22 Sep

Inkaterra Guides Field Station, Puerto Maldonado

Day Itinerary This morning join the guide on the award winning Inkaterra Canopy Walkway, which is a 1129ft system of 2 observation towers, 8 platforms and 7 hanging bridges 100ft above the ground. Designed to perform scientific research on ecosystems inhabiting the rainforest canopy, this attraction contributes to birdwatching and other ecofriendly activities. After a 20-minute walk, visit a natural water pool known as Carachamayo. Learn about the ecosystem where these waterholes are found and about carachama fishing (Pseudoinelepis genibardis), a freshwater fish native to the Peruvian Amazon, known for their nutritional value. Enjoy lunch and a rest before exploring Lake Sandoval. Navigate this beautiful oxbow-shaped lake by canoe, surrounded by Aguaje palm trees (Mauritia flexuosa), inhabited by giant river otters (Pteronura brasiliensis), blue and yellow macaws (Ara ararauna), hoatzins (Opisthocomus hoazin), red howler monkeys (Alouatta seniculus), black caimans (Melanosuchus niger) and one of the world’s biggest freshwater scaled fish: the paiche (Arapaima gigas). Access to the lake is depending on water levels during rainy season (Nov - May). Return to the station for some rest, before joining on a rainforest by night tour before dinner. Neighbouring Colombia and Peru, Ecuador is a relatively small country that nevertheless offers an enticing array of scenic landscapes, diverse wildlife species and interesting cities. Dense Amazon rainforest, towering Andean mountain peaks, palm-fringed Pacific Coast beaches and fascinating historical sites are all part and parcel of Ecuador’s prolific charms. The former Inca town of Cuenca is the nation’s third-largest city and a Unesco World Heritage Site. This alluring city, with its cobbled streets, beautiful architecture and photogenic plazas, boasts a huge variety of museums and art galleries. The vibrant capital city of Quito is also worth a visit. Arguably the most dazzling jewel in Ecuador’s crown is the Galapagos Archipelago in the Pacific, about 1000 kilometres west of the mainland. Their magnificent, pristine landscapes and prolific wildlife, which inspired Charles Darwin, have made this cluster of islands a world-famous travel destination. P a g e | 18 Banking and Currency Currency US Dollar (USD; symbol US$) = 100 cents. Notes are in denominations of US$100, 50, 20, 10, 5, 2 and 1. Coins are in denominations of US$1 and 50, 25, 10, 5 and 1 cents. Some coins are usual US cents and some are Ecuadorean centavos. They have the same value. There are no restrictions on the import or export of local or foreign currency. However, amounts exceeding US$10,000 must be declared. Foreign currencies can be exchanged at banks and at casas de cambio (exchange houses), the latter being generally the best option. It may be difficult to exchange money in the Oriente. The rate of commission varies between 1 to 4%, so it is worth shopping around. Banking Banking hours: Generally Mon-Fri 0830-1600/1700 and Saturday mornings. Major credit/debit cards are accepted in most businesses. ATMs are available at most banks in urban areas. On the Galápagos Islands, currently only Mastercard is accepted. ATMs are available at most banks in urban areas. Note that dirty or torn notes will not be accepted. Try to keep cash in smaller denominations; shopkeepers tend to refuse $50 and $100 bills as forgeries of these notes are common. Traveller's cheques are generally accepted in the larger cities and can be exchanged into currency at most banks and casas de cambio. Travel, Transport and Getting Around Ecuador is a small country and internal flight times are usually less than one hour, making air travel a quick and easy way to get around. Most flights operate out of Quito although Guayaquil also has direct services to main centres such as Cuenca, Loja and Galapagos. TAME (EQ) (www.tame.com.ec) flies frequently between Guayaquil, Quito and other destinations throughout the country. The airline has recently launched direct flights from Quito to Tena, cutting out the 5 hour bus journey beween destinations. A number of small airlines serve the coast and eastern part of the country. Flying is the usual mode of transport for intercity travel. Galapagos Islands: There are daily flights to the Galapagos Islands on national airlines from both Quito and Guayaquil; note that airfares to Galapagos are much higher than to any other domestic destination, although there are discount fares on offer for Ecuadorian nationals and residents of Galapagos. There is also a national park admission charge, payable in cash only.If you don’t have a ticket there is the option to go along to the airport and join a waiting list for the flight as people frequently don’t turn up. Cars are driven on the right hand side of the road in Ecuador. The Panamericana or Pan-American Highway is largely in good condition; there are still plenty of potholes in places though and some roads are more akin to rough tracks. Roads in the highlands can be especially bad due to the weather and cracks or holes here can be sizeable. An extensive network of roads spreads out from the main north-south axis of the Pan-American Highway. There is a lack of road markings and signage, so driving at night is particularly best avoided. Since getting around by public transport is so easy, few people rent cars in Ecuador. Nonetheless there are international and local car hire companies operating in Ecuador, with cities such as Quito, Guayaquil and Cuenca the places to arrange pick-up and drop off. It may be difficult to hire a vehicle in smaller towns and even in main cities you should arrange your vehicle hire in advance. 4-wheel drive is necessary for some areas.


P a g e | 19 Drivers need to be at least 25 years old and have a major credit card for the deposit. Some companies will hire cars to those aged 21-25 but the surcharges are much higher. Check for existing damage and make sure the car comes with a spare tyre and a jack. Drive carefully, make sure the car is always secure and check what the car rental insurance policy covers. The national speed limit is 100kph (63mph) on highways and around 50kph (30mph) in urban areas, unless otherwise indicated. There are strong penalties for even the most minor driving offences. An International Driving Permit is not required, but insurance is. Taxis are widely available, particularly in larger cities and towns. Fares tend to be low but should be negotiated in advance. Taxis are metered in Quito, but rarely elsewhere. Taxis may be hired for a whole day. Drivers do not expect tips. All licensed taxis have a registration number prominently displayed. Increasingly popular, cycling is a good, if somewhat strenuous way of seeing Ecuador. Mountain bikes are recommended and you should ideally bring your own as bike hire services are scarce outside of Quito. Bring your own spares too. Bikes can also be taken on buses, canoes and almost every other type of transport if you find you’ve run out of energy. Organised bike tours in Ecuador tend to be one day trips, and mostly downhill, having been ferried to the top of the descent in a car by the company you book with. Ecuador’s bus and coach service is extensive and affordable. Taking a bus can be an exhilarating, exciting way to see the country although it can also be cramped and scary too given the recklessness with which some drivers tackle corners and overtake. There are a number of different companies throughout the country and services to almost anywhere that you might want to go. Some of the most established have their own bus stations separate from the main terminals (terminal terrestres) and operate air-conditioned, comfortable buses, ideal for longer distance journeys. Frequent landslides and lack of funding are some of the causes of Ecuador’s railway system becoming almost completely redundant. The Empresa de Nacional Ferrocarriles del Estado (Ecuador State Railways) runs the famous Nariz del Diablo (Devil's Nose), which makes a spectacular mountain descent on its route between Riobamba (tel: (03) 961 909) and Sibambe. The only other service of note is the weekend excursion from Quito to El Boliche, near Cotopaxi. Tickets for the Devil’s Nose ride can be bought a day in advance. Reservations for the Boliche service are not necessary. People tend to ride on the roof of the train for the most exhilarating experience. Ecuador's rocky coastline makes coast-hopping an inefficient and even dangerous means of transport for visitors. Several navigable rivers flow eastwards into the Amazon basin. Dugout canoes, which carry up to about 25 people, are widely used as a means of transport in roadless areas, particularly in the Oriente jungles and in the northwest coastal regions. Tourist boats, luxury cruisers, converted fishing boats and hired yachts can all be used to travel between the Galápagos Islands. Food, Drink and Cuisine Advice It is advisable to drink only bottled or sterilised water in Ecuador. Avoid unpasteurised dairy products. Only eat wellcooked meat and fish. Vegetables should be cooked and fruit peeled. Ecuadorian dinner tables are blessed with some of the finest produce in South America; a testament to the country’s fertile soil, varied typography and wildly different climates. There are three main regions in Ecuador, each with its own style of cooking: highland cuisine revolves around warm, hearty dishes such as roast guinea pig and locro, a soup of potato, cheese, corn and avocado; coastal cuisine is dominated by seafood; and Oriente dinner tables typically feature rice, banana, yucca (a type of manioc root) and


P a g e | 20 fish, including piranha. Most food isn’t spicy, but is inevitably accompanied by a bowl of aji, a hot pepper sauce for the bold to add at their peril. Climate and Weather Ecuador has a highly changeable climate, which means that it can be variable at any time. Generally though, in the Sierra, there is little variation by day or by season, with changes occurring as you climb or descend instead. The coastal and Amazonian lowlands have a wet equatorial climate, but the higher you climb the colder it gets. Rainfall is primarily affected by proximity to the eastern or western slopes of the Andes; in the west, June to September are drier with October to May typically wetter; in the east the opposite is true with October to February drier and March to September much wetter. There is also a variation in the amount of rainfall as you journey north to south, with the southern highlands much drier than the landscapes in the north. The coast can be enjoyed all year round, although it is cooler between June and November, when a sea mist known as garua sets in. January to May are consistently the hottest and rainiest months here. The Galapagos are also affected by garua between May and December; January to April here are the hottest months, with heavy but brief rainfall also possible. In the Oriente you can be affected by rainfall at any time, but it is wettest from March to September. Most cities are located in a comfortable subtropical zone. Taking all of this into account, Ecuador’s high season is June to early September. Clothing and Dress Recommendations Lightweight natural fabrics; rainwear in subtropical areas. Warmer clothes are needed in upland areas. Make sure that you have good-quality, well-broken boots with plenty of ankle support for trekking or walking on uneven terrain. Electricity and Plug Standards Electrical sockets (outlets) in Ecuador are very similar to the electrical outlets found in the United States and Canada, and if your appliance has a North American plug, it's possible that you won't need any adapter at all in order to plug in there. However, there are two potentially very important physical differences that may need to be addressed with an adapter: grounding and/or polarization. If your plug has one or both, and the socket doesn't, then the plug may not physically be able to fit into the socket without an adapter. In the case of a North American appliance plug, grounding is accomplished by the third, round pin beneath and below the two vertical blades on the plug. Polarization is accomplished by the left vertical blade being taller than the right, so that the plug can't be inserted upside down. U.S. and Canadian sockets are required to be both grounded and polarized. But in Central and South America, the Caribbean, Japan and other areas which use U.S. style sockets, grounding and polarization often are not required, and in fact, the majority of sockets in many of these areas do not accept the taller blade and/or the third grounding pin. This will prevent a North American appliance plug from being able to plug into these sockets, if the plug is either grounded or polarized. Electrical sockets (outlets) in Ecuador usually supply electricity at between 110 and 120 volts AC. If you're plugging in a U.S. or Canadian 120 volt appliance, or an appliance that is compatible with multiple voltages, then an adapter is all you need. But travel plug adapters do not change the voltage, so the electricity coming through the adapter will still be the same 110-120 volts the socket is supplying. If your appliance is from another part of the world, and it is built only for 220-240 volt electricity, or a Japanese appliance built for 100 volts, then a travel plug adapter by itself won't be sufficient. The voltage will have to be changed from 110-120 volts at the socket, to whatever voltage your appliance requires. This is accomplished with a voltage transformer.

Peru is most famous for the sacred archaeological site of Machu Picchu – visited each year by scores of intrepid hikers who brave the Inca Trail’s arduous slopes to explore the age-old ruins. But the country’s attractions extend far beyond the mystical allure of this legendary location, and include palm-fringed beaches, quaint Andean villages and archaeological treasures that predate Machu Picchu by hundreds of years – all imbued with the nation’s rich melange of indigenous and colonial cultures. Equally enticing are the exotic reaches of Peru’s Amazon rainforest, Lima’s superb eateries, exquisite architecture and effervescent nightlife, the glittering, mountain-ringed waters of Lake Titicaca, and the vibrant city of Cusco, referred to by the Incas as ‘the centre of the world’. Note: US Dollars are also in use and accepted for payment, particularly in tourist areas. While effectively interchangeable, it is best to use local currency wherever possible, and it is always good for tourists to have some local currency in small denominations, to pay for buses, taxis and goods in some small establishments. There are no restrictions on the import or export of local or foreign currency, but amounts exceeding US$10,000 must be declared. Only a few bureau de change in Lima and Cusco will exchange currencies other than US Dollars. Outside Lima, it is virtually impossible. US Dollars can be exchanged everywhere and banks, hotels and many shops also readily accept US Dollars (although very old, torn or damaged notes are usually rejected). It is not recommended to exchange money from street vendors. Peruvian banks will reject dollar bills with the serial numbers CB or BE, bills which are old, torn (more than one centimetre) and bills which have too many stamps on them. Please make sure you don't accept any bills in such conditions as you may not be able to use them. With ATMs being widely available in major towns and cities, credit and debit cards are the best way to access money in Latin America (note though that charges are made for each transaction). Please check with your bank before


P a g e | 22 departure that your card is accepted in the countries you are travelling to. Also ensure your bank is aware of your travel plans as - suspecting fraud - they may cancel your cards after the first few international transactions. Be aware that your withdrawing limit may vary from country to country (regardless of your withdrawing limit in your home country) and it can be as low as the equivalent to US$100 per day. It is also advisable to carry some cash in small denominations bills, for those times when ATMs may not be available. US dollars is the most readily changeable currency. Banking Banking hours: Mon-Fri 0900-1800, Sat 0900-1300 (may vary during the summer). All major credit cards are accepted, but usage may be limited outside of Lima and tourist areas. Visa and MasterCard are the most commonly accepted. It is also sensible to carry some cash rather than relying only on cards. ATMs are now generally regarded as one of the best ways to obtain money in Peru. They are found almost everywhere, including in small towns, although when travelling in remote places it is best to have some cash just in case the nearby ATMs are not working or have run out of money. In bigger cities, use ATMs inside banks for greater security, especially at night. Banks will exchange traveller’s cheques although it can be a slow process outside Lima. The ability to use traveller's cheques is also quite limited in some areas so you should check whether or not they will be accepted in the area you are visiting prior to travel. The use of ATMs is generally preferable, but if you do decide to bring traveller's cheques, the best currency to bring them in is US Dollars. Travel, Transport and Getting Around LAN (LP) (www.lan.com), Taca Perú (T0) (www.taca.com) and LC Perú (W4) (www.lcperu.pe) handle virtually all domestic air traffic. Routes link Lima to Andahuaylas, Arequipa, Ayacucho, Cajamarca, Chiclayo, Cusco, Huánuco, Iquitos, Juliaca-Puno, Piura, Pucallpa, Puerto Maldonado, Tacna, Tarapoto, Trujillo, Tumbes and other cities. Flights to Huaraz are occasionally offered. For information on internal flights, contact the Peruvian Corporation of Airports (Corpac) (www.corpac.gob.pe). When travelling around Peru, you have to make a decision: time or money? The bus from Lima to Cusco can take over 24 hours instead of a flight of about 1 hour 30 minutes, but it will be a fraction of the price. If taking a shorter trip to Peru, flights will leave you a lot more time at your destination. You can book in advance from outside the country, or a few days in advance through local tour operators for not much more money. Some flights (of lower prices, and particularly with LAN) are for Peruvians only – if you purchase them be prepared to pay a fine. Domestic flight schedules are often subject to last minute change – try to confirm that your flight is leaving at the time stated on your ticket before you head to the airport. International car hire firms have offices in all the major cities and bigger airports. You must be at least 25 to hire a car in Peru, and will need to present your passport, driving licence from your country, credit card as a guarantee and sometimes a cash deposit. The minimum driving age is 18. Seatbelts should be worn both in the front and back of a car, and also on coaches (though most people don’t bother). Theoretically, the speed limit is 100kph (62mph) on the highways and 35kph (22mph) in urban areas, but few Peruvians follows these laws. You can drive for six months on a UK driving licence and up to a year on an International Driving Licence. All foreign vehicles must have documentation from their own national automobile association or you can obtain it on the Peruvian border before entering the country. Always carry your driving licence, a copy of your passport and, if the vehicle is hired, a copy of the rental contract.


P a g e | 23 Main roads in Peru are, at least, reasonably paved; others can range from extraordinarily bumpy to impassable after landslides. Landslides are frequent in the mountains during the rainy season (December to March), making for slow travel and closed roads. Take care driving on the mountain roads, which are narrow, windy and above all high up. Local drivers who know the roads well go like the clappers, but if you try it you may well go off a cliff. The wellmaintained Pan-American Highway runs down the length of Peru's coast, with intersecting highways running east into the mountains. Many unlicensed taxi companies operate in Peru and visitors are advised to avoid these. They usually have a red and white taxi sign on the windscreen. Licensed yellow taxis are the only cabs allowed in downtown Lima. Taxis do not have meters and you should agree fares before departure (they are relatively inexpensive). Extensive and safe taxi services are available by telephone in main cities. Hotels and hostels will book them for you. Taxi fares increase by 35 to 50% after midnight and on holidays. Drivers do not expect tips. Taking the bus is the travel method of choice in Peru; buses go in almost every direction. You can book yourself onto everything from a bus with seats that recline until fully horizontal and hostesses to bring you dinner, to a squashedin place in the back of a pick-up truck, depending on your budget. The crème de la crème of coach company in Peru is Cruz del Sur (tel: (01) 311 5050;www.cruzdelsur.com.pe). It’s the most expensive, but you’ll get a nice meal and a good night’s sleep. Other coach companies are Flores (tel: (01) 332 1212; www.floreshnos.net), Linea (tel: (01) 424 0836;www.transporteslinea.com.pe) and MovilTours (tel: (01) 716 8000; www.moviltours.com.pe). Otherwise just turn up at a bus station or ask around. Public transport in Lima is provided by conventional buses and by minibuses (combis), though they are overcrowded, sometimes dangerous and not particularly useful for tourists. These operate from 06h00 to 00h00 on established routes; wherever possible, try to avoid using bus travel late at night. Lima has a clean, efficient metro system which links nine districts, and allows travel between Miraflores and Lima centre. Peru Rail (tel: (01) 517 1884; www.perurail.com) runs comfortable tourist trains between Puno and Cusco and between Cusco and Machu Picchu. Ferrocarril Central Andino (tel: (01) 226 6363;www.ferrocarrilcentral.com.pe or www.rrdc.com/op_peru_fcca.html) runs a twice-monthly tourist service on renovated trains between Lima and Huáncayo. This spectacular route is the second highest railway in the world (the highest being in Tibet). Safety Notices Many national governments provide a regularly updated advice service on safety issues involved with international travel. P a g e | 24 Petty Theft and Personal Safety: While travelling, there is always the risk of pick-pocketing and petty theft, particularly in the more touristy cities. We recommend that you exercise caution when walking alone at night and encourage you to walk together and only on main, well-lit thoroughfares. Be particularly vigilant on public transport. Simple measures like carrying your day pack on your front, not hanging your bag over the back of your chair or on the floor and wearing a money belt will reduce any chance that your valuables should go missing. Money Withdrawal In order to avoid fraud, it is advisable that you withdraw money from ATMs located inside banks or guarded shops during business hours only. Traffic and Driving on the Other Side of the Road: Depending on where you come from, please note that drivers in this part of the world may drive on the opposite side of the road from what you are used to. Look both ways before crossing any road. Traffic can be a little more chaotic than you might be used to at home. Be aware! Seat Belts Please be aware that local laws governing transportation safety may differ from those in your home country and not all the transport which we use is able to provide seat belts. Life Jackets While life jackets are generally available on water-craft, there may be occasions where they are not provided and child size life jackets are not always readily available. If this safety issue concerns you, we will be able to advise alternative methods of transport (where available) for you to travel to the next destination. Food, Drink and Cuisine Advice Drink only bottled water, and take purification tablets in case bottled water is unavailable. Pasteurised milk is widely available, but if you are staying in mountain towns you will also find that unpasteurised milk is often sold in shops, served in plastic bags. Avoid dairy products that are likely to have been made from unboiled milk. Only eat well-cooked meat and fish. You will find that there is plenty of street food available in stores and at markets, and you should try to ensure that what you buy has been heated properly and not been left out. In particular, you will find lots of ceviche, a cold seafood dish made using raw fish, which is practically the national dish. It is heavily acidic, which must kill some bacteria; nevertheless be aware that unless the fish is very fresh the potential for food poisoning is high. Vegetables should be cooked and fruit peeled. Tipping Generally speaking, tipping is not expected in Peru, but it is very welcomed. It is customary to add 10% as a tip on top of the service charge added to hotel and restaurant bills. The following amounts are based on local considerations and feedback from our past travellers: Hotel porters: US$1 per bag is adequate for porters that assist you with bags to your room. Drivers: You may have a range of drivers on your trip. Some may be with you for a short journey while others may be with you for several days. We suggest US$2-US$5 per day for drivers. Local guides: Throughout your trip, you will have local guides. We suggest US$8-10 per person, per day for local guides.


P a g e | 25 Climate and Weather The weather in Peru varies according to area – the changes in altitude are so extreme that the climate goes from freezing snow in the mountains to boiling sun on the coast. Likewise, the coast covers such a large stretch of longitude that the temperature changes dramatically as you head further south. On the coast winter lasts from June to September. The weather tends to be overcast and slightly damp at this time, but rarely very cold. It hardly ever rains in Lima nor most of the coast, except for Tumbes and Piura, which have tropical climates. During June to September, the mountainous areas are often sunny during the day but cold at night. This is high tourist season and the best time to visit most regions. Rainy season in the Andes starts in September and peaks between January and March, and this is a dreadful and occasionally dangerous time to be hiking. Heavy rains in the mountains and jungle last from December to April. It is rainy and hot for most of the year, but between March and September there are occasional cold surges which might require a jumper. Clothing and Dress Recommendations For travel in Peru, a variety of clothes are necessary. You will need very lightweight clothes for summer on the coast, and thermals, hats, gloves and ski jackets for winter up in the mountains. It can become freezing at night at altitude and remain hot and sticky through the nights in the jungle. Waterproof clothing is thoroughly recommended for the rainy season, because the heavens open very suddenly, and then it pours. If you are travelling to the jungle you’ll need something protective and waterproof for your feet. For any mountain hiking you’ll need proper, supportive boots. If you’re spending time along the coast you’ll need sandals or flip-flops. Electricity and Plug Standards Electricity in Peru is 220 Volts and 60 Hertz (cycles per second). If you want to use a 110-volt appliance in Peru, you’ll need to buy a voltage converter. But always check before spending money on an converter, as many modern laptops and digital cameras can safely take both 110 and 220 volts (they are dual voltage). Many of Peru’s top-end hotels have outlets for 110-volt appliances. They should be clearly labeled as such, but always check if you’re unsure. There are two types of electrical outlets in Peru. One accepts two-pronged plugs with flat, parallel blades, while the other takes plugs with two round prongs. Many Peruvian electrical outlets are designed to accept both types. If your appliance has a different plug attachment (such as a three-pronged UK plug), you’ll need to buy an adapter. Universal plug adapters are inexpensive and easy to carry around. It’s a good idea to buy one before you go to Peru (most major airports have a store selling plug adapters).

We recommend you contact your local embassy/consulate or a visa provider for visa requirements and your local GP for the most up to date information on vaccinations required. Tucan Travel Terms and Conditions Booking Conditions Tucan Limited in the UK (herein after referred to as Tucan Travel) accepts bookings subject to the following conditions: 1. Your Contract with Tucan Travel a) Terminology A Package refers to any one or more of the following: Group Tour, Tailor-made Tour, Cruises to the Galapagos and Antarctica, including Extra Services (pre and post tour hotels or transfers; additional flights; excursions; I’d like my own room; supplements etc.), where they are booked at the same time as the tour. b) Deposits & Charges i) Deposits For Tailor-made Tours per person: 30% of total booking. Minimum spend of: £1500 / €1700/ A$2500 / NZD$2700 / US$2000 / C$2500 ii) Full Payment Required within 90 days of departure, however during high seasons or high occupancy this deadline may be brought forward even after you have booked. c) Flights All flights purchased in addition to or in conjunction with any Package must be paid in full at the time of booking and are non-refundable. d) Contract The contract is made between Tucan Limited in the United Kingdom trading as Tucan Travel (hereinafter "Tucan Travel" - for company details, see Clause 22) and the client, being all persons named on the booking as travelling or intending to travel through Tucan Travel. The person making the booking (which is subject to these conditions) warrants that they have full authority to do so on behalf of all persons named, and confirms that all such persons are fully aware of and accept these conditions. The contract between you and us is subject to and governed by English law in the United Kingdom (and no other). Any claim, dispute or other matter arising from or in connection with the contract shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the English courts, regardless of where in the world you reside. To secure a booking and contract, Tucan Travel requires a non-refundable deposit or full payment as required in Clause 1b per person per Package. This payment is deemed to be confirmation that the client has read and accepts these Tucan Travel Booking Conditions. Clients booking through a travel agent or telephone, email or online will be deemed to have read these Booking Conditions and accepted them. A booking is confirmed and a contract between you and Tucan Travel exists when Tucan Travel issues an invoice. Errors or omissions on the invoice made by Tucan Travel may be subsequently amended after advising the client in writing. Tucan Travel reserves the right to decline any booking at our discretion.


P a g e | 27 For UK bookings: If your confirmed arrangements include a flight, we (or if you booked via an authorised agent of ours, that agent) will also issue you with an ATOL Certificate. Upon receipt, if you believe that any details on the ATOL Certificate or confirmation or any other document are wrong you must advise us immediately as changes can not be made later and it may harm your rights if we are not notified of any inaccuracies in any document within ten days of our sending it out (five days for tickets). 2. Payment of Packages The balance of all monies due, including any surcharges applicable at that time, must be paid according to Clause 1b. In the case of nonpayment of the balance by the due date, Tucan Travel will treat the booking as cancelled by the client and apply the appropriate cancellation charges. Local Payment plus any local surcharges must be paid on Day 1 in "USD cash" in the destination of travel or as instructed in the documentation or by local staff. For Packages in Europe and Cuba this must be paid in "Euro cash". Failure to pay will result in the client being excluded from the Package without refund. These payments are non-refundable for any unused elements of the Package. Refer to Clause 6 for further details. For UK bookings: Any money paid to an authorised agent of ours in respect of a booking covered by our ATOL is held by that agent on behalf of and for the benefit of the Trustees of the Air Travel Trust at all times, but subject to the agent’s obligation to pay it to us for so long as we do not fail financially. If we do fail financially, any money held at that time by the agent or subsequently accepted from the consumer by the agent, is and continues to be held by that agent on behalf of and for the benefit of the Trustees of the Air Travel Trust without any obligation to pay that money to us. 3. Changes a) Changes by You Any request by the client to change from one Package to another or change the departure date of their chosen Package must be made in writing by the person who made the original booking. The Client will forgo any previous price promotions they may have attained when making the new booking. The new Package price will be based on the current published price found on our website on the date the change was requested. The client may qualify for current price promotions should they apply. Administration Charges as in Clause 1b will apply and any additional deposits. Should the change be requested once full payment is due, cancellation charges apply as in Clause 5. b) Transfer of Booking If you or any member of your party is prevented from travelling, that person(s) may transfer their place to someone else, subject to the following conditions: • • • •

a. that person is introduced by you and satisfies all the conditions applicable to the holiday; b. we are notified not less than 7 days before departure; c. you pay any outstanding balance payment, an amendment fee per person transferring, as well as any additional fees, charges or other costs arising from the transfer; and d. the transferee agrees to these booking conditions and all other terms of the contract between us.

You and the transferee remain jointly and severally liable for payment of all sums. If you are unable to find a replacement, cancellation charges as set out in clause 4 will apply in order to cover our estimated costs. Otherwise, no refunds will be given for passengers not travelling or for unused services. c) Changes by Us While Tucan Travel will use its best endeavours to operate all Packages as advertised, by entering into this contract the client accepts that it may prove necessary or advisable to vary or modify a Package itinerary or its contents due to prevailing local conditions. Tucan Travel reserves the right at any time either before or during a Package to cancel or change any of the facilities, services or prices described (including flights, transport, accommodation or other arrangements) and to substitute alternative arrangements of comparable monetary value without compensation and accepts no liability for loss of enjoyment as a result of these changes. Occasionally, Group Tours clients may be separated into different transport and hotels depending on local conditions and availability at the time of booking or travel. Some trekking and cruise Packages are operated by specialist tour operators and some tours to unique destinations are operated by trusted partners, for example tours in Iceland, Morocco and North America. You will be notified of the trusted tour operator on your confirmation invoice and with final documentation. Your contract will still be with Tucan Travel.


P a g e | 28 If a significant change becomes necessary, Tucan Travel will inform the client as soon as reasonably possible if there is time before departure. The definition of a significant change will depend on the individual Package and circumstances and is at the sole discretion of Tucan Travel. When a significant change is made the client will have the choice of: • • • •

accepting the change of arrangements; purchasing another available Package of a comparable or higher standard from us, if available (at no extra cost); if available, accepting an offer of alternative arrangements of a lower standard, with a refund of the price difference between the original arrangements and the alternative arrangements; or cancelling the Package and obtaining a full refund of all monies paid.

4. Force Majeure Except where otherwise expressly stated in these Booking Conditions we will not be liable or pay you compensation if our contractual obligations to you are affected by “Force Majeure”. For the purposes of these Booking Conditions, Force Majeure means any event beyond our or our supplier’s control, the consequences of which could not have been avoided even if all reasonable measures had been taken. Examples include war, threat of war, terrorist activity, riot, civil strife or industrial dispute; natural or nuclear disaster, disease, fire or adverse road, river or weather conditions; technical, maintenance or compliance problems with local transport or Tucan Travel vehicles; changes imposed by cancellation or rescheduling of flights by an airline or main charterer, the alteration of airline or aircraft type; or any other similar events beyond the control of Tucan Travel. Tucan Travel is not liable for any penalty charges associated with non-refundable airfares, in the event of a change to a Package departure time, date or airport. 5. Cancellation a) Cancellation by You The client may cancel the booking at any time provided that the cancellation is communicated to Tucan Travel in writing even if verbal notification of an intention to cancel has been given. Cancellation charges will be applied as shown below calculated from the day written notification is received. Cancellation charges are in addition to any insurance, flight or similar service provided plus any additional charges in Clauses 1 & 6. If the reason for cancellation is covered by your insurance policy, you may be able to reclaim these charges. No refunds will be made for any services not utilised. The date used for calculating cancellation charges is the date from which the Package within the booking commences. • •

90 days or more or as advised in Clause 1b: forfeit of all deposits. 89 days or less: 100% of full payment.

Cancellation by You due to Unavoidable & Extraordinary Circumstances You have the right to cancel your confirmed holiday before departure without paying a cancellation charge in the event of “unavoidable and extraordinary circumstances” occurring at your holiday destination or its immediate vicinity and significantly affecting the performance of the holiday or significantly affecting the transport arrangements to the destination. In these circumstances, we shall provide you with a full refund of the monies you have paid but we will not be liable to pay you any additional compensation. Please note that your right to cancel in these circumstances will only apply where the Foreign and Commonwealth Office advises against travel to your destination or its immediate vicinity. For the purposes of this clause, “unavoidable and extraordinary circumstances” means warfare, acts of terrorism, significant risks to human health such as the outbreak of serious disease at the travel destination or natural disasters such as floods, earthquakes or weather conditions which make it impossible to travel safely to the travel destination. b) Cancellation by Us Tucan Travel reserves the right to cancel a Package in any circumstances but, except for Force Majeure or the client’s failure to pay the final balance or one of the conditions detailed in Clause 5, will not cancel a Package less than 28 days before departure. Unless the client fails to pay the final balance Tucan Travel will, upon cancellation, return all monies paid excluding payment for travel insurance, flights, similar services and administration charges or offer an alternative Package of comparable standard. Tucan Travel sets its own minimum numbers for Group Tours based on logistics and will operate tours once minimum numbers have been reached. A number of departure dates are guaranteed to depart and will generally operate regardless of whether minimum numbers have been achieved unless it is for safety or operational reasons. On occasion, a tour may continue to operate with only one or two people. Where minimum numbers have not been achieved, Tucan Travel may choose to either operate the Group Tour or cancel the Group Tour. Where we choose to cancel the booking, we will let you know no later than:

(i) in the case of trips lasting more than 6 days, 20 days before the start of the Package; (ii) in the case of trips lasting between 2 and 6 days, 7 days before the start of the Package; (iii) in the case of trips lasting less than 2 days, 48 hours before the start of the Package.

If we have to cancel your booking in accordance with this clause, we will tell you as soon as possible and if there is time to do so before departure, we will offer you the choice of: • • •

(i) having a refund of all monies paid; or (ii) if available, accepting an offer of alternative travel arrangements of a comparable or higher standard from us (at no extra cost); or (iii) if available, accepting an offer of alternative arrangements of a lower standard, with a refund of the price difference between the original arrangements and the alternative arrangements.

Compensation In addition to a full refund of all monies paid by you, we will pay you compensation as detailed below, in the following circumstances: • •

(i) If, where we make a significant change, you do not accept the changed arrangements and cancel your booking; (ii) If we cancel your booking and no alternative arrangements are available.

IMPORTANT NOTE: We will not pay you compensation in the following circumstances: • • • • • • •

a) where we make an insignificant change; b) where we make a significant change or cancel your arrangements more than 28 days before departure; c) where we make a significant change and you accept those changed arrangements or you accept an offer of alternative travel arrangements; d) where we have to cancel your arrangements as a result of your failure to make full payment on time; e) where the change or cancellation by us arises out of alterations to the confirmed booking requested by you; f) where we are forced to cancel or change your arrangements due to Force Majeure (see Clause 4); g) where we cancel your booking as a result of a failure to achieve minimum numbers for your tour and we notify you within the time periods stipulated in this clause.

If we become unable to provide a significant proportion of the arrangements that you have booked with us after you have departed, we will, if possible, make alternative arrangements for you at no extra charge and where those alternative arrangements are of a lower standard, provide you with an appropriate price reduction. 6. Prices and Surcharges All prices published are “from” prices. Tucan Travel sells Packages with variable pricing based on availability, exchange rates, operational costs, travel seasons and years. Correct prices are published on the Tucan Travel website and are valid at the booking date. Any promotions cannot be backdated and are only available when the client makes the booking and pays the deposit. Holding an “option” to book does not guarantee the price, if it subsequently changes, until the client makes the booking and pays the deposit. Loyalty Discount - The 5% Loyalty Discount can only be used on direct bookings with Tucan Travel only and is not valid on Tailor-made tours. Travel agents may provide their own loyalty schemes at their discretion. Tucan Travel reserves the right to impose surcharges on any Package if the increase in price is more than 2% for reasons arising from (i) the price of the carriage of passengers resulting from the cost of fuel or other power sources; (ii) the level of dues, taxes or fees chargeable for services applicable to the holiday imposed by third parties not directly involved in the performance of the holiday, including tourist taxes, such as landing taxes or embarkation or disembarkation fees at ports and airports; or the exchange rates used to calculate your arrangements relevant to the Package. If the surcharge is equal to or greater than 10% (7% in Canada) clients will be given the option to cancel the booking with a full refund within seven days of being notified of the charge. Should the price of your holiday go down due to the changes mentioned above, then any refund due will be paid to you less an administrative fee as in 1b)iv). However, please note that travel arrangements are not always purchased in local currency and some apparent changes have no impact on the price of your travel due to contractual and other protection in place. There will be no change made to the price of your confirmed holiday within 20 days of your departure nor will refunds be paid during this period.


P a g e | 30 The above conditions do not apply in the following circumstances: a) In the event of local flight cancellations, overbooking or rescheduling of departure days and times, Tucan Travel reserves the right to pass on any extra costs to the client. In such cases, the client will have the choice to wait for the next available scheduled flight and miss some tour services included or pay any additional costs associated with upgrades or chartering aircraft as a substitute by way of local surcharges. b) Increased costs of permits or entry charges for the Inca Trail Trek, Machu Picchu, Lares Trek, Gorilla Trek, Game Park, National Parks or similar entrance charges to tourist sites and associated operating costs will be passed to the client by way of local surcharges as the increases occur. c) Fuel surcharges due to increases in fuel costs for Flights, Cruises to the Galapagos and Antarctica or Tucan Travel vehicles may be applied and invoiced in advance of your departure if there is adequate time to do so. Fuel surcharges may only be known within a limited time before the departure date and are dependent on world and local fuel prices. Any fuel surcharge applied must be paid in full either in advance or by way of local surcharges as advised, failure to pay will result in the client being prevented from joining the Package without refund. 7. Travel Insurance, Altitude and Horse Riding Travel insurance is mandatory for all clients travelling with Tucan Travel. Clients together with their personal property including baggage are at all times solely at their own risk. Clients are wholly responsible for arranging their own insurance. A suitable insurance policy should provide adequate cover for medical expenses arising through illness or accident prior to or during the Package and loss of Package monies through cancellation or curtailment of the Package for insurable reasons. Clients should ensure that there are no exclusion clauses limiting protection for the type of activities available during their Package whether included in the cost by Tucan Travel or otherwise. The travel insurance cover automatically provided with credit card purchases does not provide adequate cover as standard. Proof of adequate insurance will be requested at the start of your Package, failure to provide this will result in the client being prevented from joining the Package without refund. Altitude Sickness: All clients warrant and accept that there is a chance they may get some form of altitude sickness on itineraries that generally travel to altitudes over 2,400 metres though Tucan Travel will not expose clients to any undue risk of altitude sickness. Tucan Travel tour leaders, staff and local suppliers working at higher altitudes will have some level of knowledge and / or training on how to help and advise you. Please read the information contained here https://www.tucantravel.com/high-altitude-sickness to ensure you understand the risks and what to do in this event. Horse Riding: All clients wishing to participate in horse riding or similar activities, whether included or optional, acknowledge that the availability of protective headgear can vary or be non-existent. Therefore Tucan Travel cannot guarantee that headgear will be provided or will be to the same standard as those available in the UK or your home country. Any client intending to partake in these activities should bring their own protective headgear and other protective equipment with them. 8. Passport, Visa and Immigration Requirements & Health Formalities It is your responsibility to check and fulfill the passport, visa, health and immigration requirements applicable to your itinerary. We can only provide general information about this. You must check requirements for your own specific circumstances with the relevant Embassies and/or Consulates and your own doctor as applicable. Requirements do change and you must check the up to date position in good time before departure. We do not accept any responsibility if you cannot travel, or incur any other loss because you have not complied with any passport, visa, immigration requirements or health formalities. You agree to reimburse us in relation to any fines or other losses which we incur as a result of your failure to comply with any passport, visa, immigration requirements or health formalities. 9. Age, Fitness and Participation All clients are expected to satisfy themselves prior to booking that they are fit and able to complete the itinerary of their chosen Package as described by Tucan Travel. At the least, clients are expected to be able to carry their own luggage over short distances of up to 15 minutes’ walk and up several flights of stairs if required. Our hotels generally do not have concierge or porter services. Clients are also expected to accept that the Packages described are “Adventure Travel” and that travel around and facilities in developing countries will not be of similar standards which they may be accustomed to at home. We do not provide luxury travel. Those aged 16 and 17 years are accepted on some Group Tours and most Tailor-made Tours, Cruises to the Galapagos and Antarctica and Extra Services operated by Tucan Travel at our discretion provided they are accompanied by a parent or guardian who accepts full responsibility for them. Some excursions including but not limited to the Inca Trek, Lares Trek and Gorilla Trek have other age limits set by companies or bodies separate to Tucan Travel. The “Adventures for 20's to 30's” tours are limited to those aged between 18 and 39 years, however occasionally Tucan Travel may authorise clients outside these ages to travel if they meet certain criteria. Tucan Travel reserves the absolute right to decline a booking at our discretion.


P a g e | 31 Clients agree to accept the authority and decisions of employees, tour leaders and agents whilst on Packages with Tucan Travel and our trusted partners. If in the opinion of such person the health or conduct of a client before or after departure appears likely to endanger the safe, comfortable or happy progress of a Package the client may be excluded from all or part of the Package. In the case of ill health, Tucan Travel may make such arrangements as it sees fit and the associated total costs of these arrangements including expenses of Tucan Travel must be paid for by the client. If a client is excluded as above or chooses to leave of their own free will or leaves due to ill health or any other reason there will be no refund of the Package price, Extra Services, surcharges, Local Payment or any local surcharges. All services forming part of the whole Package booked will be forfeit though may be recoverable through the client's travel insurance in some circumstances. 10. Local Laws All participants in Packages operated by Tucan Travel and our trusted partners are expected to obey the laws and regulations of the countries visited. 11. Illness or Disability Anyone suffering from illness or disability or undergoing treatment for any physical or medical condition must declare the true nature of such condition at the time of booking and make arrangements for the provision of any medication or other treatment which may be required during the Package. Failure to make such disclosure will constitute a breach of these booking conditions and result in such persons being excluded from the Package in which case all monies paid will be forfeit. See Clause 9 for further information. 12. If you have a Complaint If the client has a complaint about any of the Package arrangements the client must bring it to the attention of the tour leader or other representatives of Tucan Travel or its suppliers at the time so that they may use their best endeavours to rectify the situation. It is only if Tucan Travel is made aware of any problems that there will be an opportunity to put things right. Failure to complain on the spot will result in the client’s ability to claim compensation from Tucan Travel or its suppliers being extinguished or at least reduced. Should the problem remain unresolved a complaint must be made in writing to feedback@tucantravel.comwithin 28 days of the completion of the Package or all claims for compensation will be forfeit. Tucan Travel will endeavour to acknowledge correspondence within 14 days of receipt and to provide a detailed response to any letter of complaint within 28 days of receipt. Arbitration: If we are unable to mutually resolve your complaint you can call upon the AITO Arbitration Service on www.aito.com or the ABTA Arbitration Scheme on www.abta.com. You can also access the European Commission Online Dispute Resolution (ODR) platform at http://ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr/. 13. Our Responsibilities & Liability 1) We will accept responsibility for the arrangements we agree to provide or arrange for you as an “organiser” of a Package and as such, we are responsible for the proper provision of all travel services included in your Package, as set out in your confirmation invoice. Subject to these Booking Conditions, if we or our suppliers negligently perform or arrange those services and we don’t remedy or resolve your complaint within a reasonable period of time, and this has affected the enjoyment of your Package holiday you may be entitled to an appropriate price reduction or compensation or both. You must inform us without undue delay of any failure to perform or improper performance of the travel services included in this Package. The level of any such price reduction or compensation will be calculated taking into consideration all relevant factors such as but not limited to: following the complaints procedure as described in these Booking Conditions and the extent to which ours or our employees’ or suppliers’ negligence affected the overall enjoyment of your holiday. Please note that it is your responsibility to show that we or our supplier(s) have been negligent if you wish to make a claim against us. 2) We will not be responsible or pay you compensation for any injury, illness, death, loss, damage, expense, cost or other claim of any description if it results from: 1. 2. 3.

the acts and/or omissions of the person affected; or the acts and/or omissions of a third party unconnected with the provision of the services contracted for and which were unavoidable and extraordinary; or Force Majeure (as defined in clause 4).

3) We limit the amount of compensation we may have to pay you if we are found liable under this clause:


P a g e | 32 a) Loss of and/or damage to any luggage or personal possessions and money: the maximum amount we will have to pay you in respect of these claims is an amount equivalent to the excess on your insurance policy which applies to this type of loss per person in total because you are required to have adequate insurance in place to cover any losses of this kind. b) Claims not falling under (a) above and which don’t involve injury, illness or death: the maximum amount we will have to pay you in respect of these claims is up to three times the price paid by or on behalf of the person(s) affected in total. This maximum amount will only be payable where everything has gone wrong and you or your party has not received any benefit at all from your booking. c) Claims in respect of international travel by air, sea and rail, or any stay in a hotel: 1.

The extent of our liability will in all cases be limited as if we were carriers under the appropriate Conventions, which include The Warsaw/Montreal Convention (international travel by air); The Athens Convention (with respect to sea travel); The Berne/Cotif Convention (with respect to rail travel) and The Paris Convention (with respect to hotel arrangements). You can ask for copies of these Conventions from our offices. Please contact us. In addition, you agree that the operating carrier or transport company's own 'Conditions of Carriage' will apply to you on that journey. When arranging transportation for you, we rely on the terms and conditions contained within these international conventions and those 'Conditions of Carriage'. You acknowledge that all of the terms and conditions contained in those 'Conditions of Carriage' form part of your contract with us, as well as with the transport company and that those 'Conditions of Carriage' shall be deemed to be included by reference into this contract. In any circumstances in which a carrier is liable to you by virtue of the Denied Boarding Regulation 2004, any liability we may have to you under our contract with you, arising out of the same facts, is limited to the remedies provided under the Regulation as if (for this purpose only) we were a carrier. When making any payment, we are entitled to deduct any money which you have received or are entitled to receive from the transport provider or hotelier for the complaint or claim in question.

4) It is a condition of our acceptance of liability under this clause that you notify any claim to us and our supplier(s) strictly in accordance with the complaints procedure set out in these conditions. 5) Where any payment is made, the person(s) receiving it (and their parent or guardian if under 18 years) must also assign to us or our insurers any rights they may have to pursue any third party and must provide ourselves and our insurers with all assistance we may reasonably require. 6) Please note, we cannot accept any liability for any damage, loss or expense or other sum(s) of any description: 1. 2.

which on the basis of the information given to us by you concerning your booking prior to our accepting it, we could not have foreseen you would suffer or incur if we breached our contract with you; or relate to any business.

7) Where it is impossible for you to return to your departure point as per the agreed return date of your Package, due to “unavoidable and extraordinary circumstances”, we shall provide you with any necessary accommodation (where possible, of a comparable standard) for a period not exceeding three nights per person. Please note that the 3 night cap does not apply to persons with reduced mobility, pregnant women or unaccompanied minors, nor to persons needing specific medical assistance, provided we have been notified of these particular needs at least 48 hours before the start of your holiday. For the purposes of this clause, “unavoidable and extraordinary circumstances” mean warfare, acts of terrorism, significant risks to human health such as the outbreak of serious disease at the travel destination or natural disasters such as floods, earthquakes or weather conditions which make it impossible to travel safely back to your departure point. FOR THOSE BOOKING FROM CANADA: Tucan Travel makes arrangements with independent contractors such as airlines, transfer operators, hotels & other suppliers that provide the services that clients purchase. Although we are careful when selecting these suppliers, they are all independent parties and Tucan Travel has no control over them and is not responsible for their acts or omissions. Services provided by these independent parties are subject to applicable Provincial travel industry acts and the regulations thereunder, together with all applicable conditions imposed by the independent parties and their liability is limited by the tariffs, conditions of carriage, tickets and vouchers and international conventions and agreements. Tucan Travel is not responsible for any loss, damage or injury, whether physical or mental, or to property, resulting from any delay, substitution or deficiency of quality of equipment or service, or any act, omission, or negligence of any of the independent parties, their agents, servants, employees or subcontractors supplying any of the services or for any claims for such loss, damage, or injury, whether physical or mental, arising therefrom, or from any claim that arises by reason of any action or omission of any party other than Tucan Travel. Tucan Travel’s liability for any loss, damage or injury, whether physical or mental, arising from its own acts, omissions or negligence, is limited to the price of the Package and any services purchased by the client. Tucan Travel will also deduct any amount which a client receives or is entitled to receive from any supplier of services in relation to the complaint or claim in question from any amount owing by it

Optional Excursions and Activities Tucan Travel and our tour leaders and representatives may provide you with information (before departure and/or on tour) about optional activities and excursions which do not form part of your pre-booked Package and which are available in the region you are visiting. Tucan Travel has no involvement in any such activities or excursions which are not run, supervised or controlled in any way by us. They are provided by local operators or other providers who are entirely independent and they may or may not have their own public liability insurance. They do not form any part of your contract with Tucan Travel even where we suggest particular operators / providers and / or assist you in booking such activities or excursions in any way. Where a tour leader or representative collects payment for, attends and / or completes, or otherwise assists in booking any such activity or excursion for you, we and the tour leader or representative act solely as a booking agent for the local operator or provider of the activity or excursion with whom you will have a direct contract. The local operator / provider’s terms and conditions will apply. We cannot accept any liability on any basis in relation to such activities or excursions and the acceptance of liability contained in Clause 13 of our booking conditions will not apply to them. We do not guarantee that any optional activity or excursion mentioned will be available to book during your Package and / or will operate as advertised as these services do not form part of our contract and are not under our control. They may not be available for various reasons. Any prices given in advance are indicative only. We will not be liable if you cannot, for whatever reason, book any such activity or excursion or if the activity or excursion does not operate as advertised. 15. Flight Bookings Tucan Travel will use its best endeavours to ensure that all flight prices and pre-paid taxes are correct at the time that they are quoted. Airlines reserve the right to amend or withdraw fares without prior notice. The fare can only be guaranteed when the flight booking has been paid for in full by Tucan Travel and a ticket has been issued. Flight bookings are non-transferable. Occasionally airlines cancel or reschedule flights and we may need to contact you to advise the changes or make alternative arrangements. This is beyond the control of Tucan Travel and any additional charges must be paid by the client. Tucan Travel tours have a checked luggage restriction of up to 20kg in total. Some tours in Latin America which include domestic flights are also subject to the local carrier conditions of booking and have their own luggage restrictions which may be a maximum of 15kg. Any excess luggage charges on tour or on flights must be paid by the client. Hand luggage allowance will vary from airline to airline. Due to variances in airline regulations and for your own comfort while travelling, Tucan Travel recommend a luggage weight of no more than 15kg checked luggage and 5kg hand luggage. 16. Website and Advertising Material Accuracy The information contained on our website and in other advertising material is believed correct to the best of our knowledge at the time of publication. Errors may occasionally occur and information may subsequently change, therefore please ensure you check all details of your chosen Package (including the price) with us or your travel agent at the time of booking. Tucan Travel cannot be held responsible for any error, omission or unintentional misrepresentation that may appear on our website or in other advertising material. 17. Privacy Policy In order to process bookings Tucan Travel is required to collect certain personal details from you. We have a lawful basis to retain personal information when bookings are made. These details will usually include the names and addresses of party members along with passport details, credit / debit card or other payment details and special requirements such as those relating to any disability or medical condition that may affect the holiday arrangements. We take full responsibility for ensuring that proper security measures are in place to protect your information. Personal booking information is captured securely and will not be stored for longer than necessary. We may therefore delete your personal information after a reasonable and responsible period of time. Personal and insurance information will be collected from all clients at the onset of your Package. Once you have travelled with Tucan Travel, you will be asked to complete a client questionnaire where we will collect further details about you and the tour you travelled on. You may also be asked to review your tour on trusted review websites or we may share these reviews (from which your personal details will be withheld) with trusted review websites on your behalf. We may disclose your personal information to the following third parties some of which are based outside the European Union for the purposes of our operation, these may include, without limitation: · Mailing houses · Payment processors · Airlines


P a g e | 34 · Overseas tour companies or travel service providers · IT systems administrators · Electronic network administrators We must pass some information on to the relevant suppliers of your travel arrangements (airlines, hotels, transport companies etc.). Where we disclose your personal information to overseas third parties, we require that they maintain appropriate standards of confidentiality and implement the correct security measures. Such suppliers may be outside continental Europe if your holiday is to take place or involve suppliers outside these countries. The information may also be provided to security or credit checking companies, public authorities such as customs / immigration if required by them, or as required by law. We only use personally identifiable data for the purpose or service that it has been submitted. We will always work to fully protect your rights and comply with our obligations under the GDPR and the Privacy and Electronic Communications (EC Directive) Regulations 2003 and you will always have the opportunity to opt-out or manage your preferences. To unsubscribe from an e-newsletter, or update your preferences, you can follow the prompts that are published at the end of each newsletter or you can reply to the newsletter asking to be unsubscribed. Clients (excluding Australia, New Zealand and Canada) are financially protected by the UK when booking directly with Tucan Travel. Your Financial Protection. The Association of Bonded Travel Organisers Trust Limited (ABTOT) provides financial protection under ABTOT Combined and The Package Travel and Linked Travel Arrangements Regulations 2018 for Tucan Travel, ATOL number 6855, and in the event of their insolvency, protection is provided for the following: 1. non-flight Packages; 2. flight inclusive Packages that commence outside of the EU, which are sold to customers outside of the EU; and 3. flight inclusive Packages, flight only and linked travel arrangements (LTAs ) sold as a principal under ABTOT Combined. ABTOT Combined cover provides for a refund in the event you have not yet travelled or repatriation if you are abroad. Please note that bookings made outside the EU are only protected by ABTOT when purchased directly with Tucan Travel. In the unlikely event that you require assistance whilst abroad due to our financial failure, please call our 24/7 helpline on +44 1702 811397 and advise you are a customer of an ABTOT protected travel company. This lists what is financially protected, where you can get information on what this means for you and who to contact if things go wrong. The price of our ATOL-protected flight inclusive Packages includes the amount of £2.50 per person as part of the ATOL Protection Contribution (APC) we pay to the CAA. This charge is included in our advertised prices. We, or the suppliers identified on your ATOL Certificate or holiday itinerary, will provide you with the services listed on the ATOL Certificate or itinerary (or a suitable alternative). In some cases, where neither we nor the supplier are able to do so for reasons of insolvency, an alternative ATOL holder or supplier may provide you with the services you have bought or a suitable alternative (at no extra cost to you). You agree to accept that in those circumstances the alternative ATOL holder or supplier will perform those obligations and you agree to pay any money outstanding to be paid by you under your contract to that alternative ATOL holder or supplier. However, you also agree that in some cases it will not be possible to appoint an alternative ATOL holder or supplier, in which case you will be entitled to make a claim under the ABTOT Combined scheme. If we, or the suppliers identified on your ATOL certificate or holiday itinerary, are unable to provide the services listed (or a suitable alternative, through an alternative ATOL holder, alternative supplier or otherwise) for reasons of insolvency, ABTOT Limited may make a payment to (or confer a benefit on) you under the ABTOT Combined scheme. You agree that in return for such a payment or benefit you assign absolutely to ABTOT Limited any claims which you have or may have arising out of or relating to the non-provision of the services, including any claim

You also agree that any such claims may be re-assigned to another body, if that other body has paid sums you have claimed under the ABTOT Combined scheme. Clients resident in Australia and New Zealand: Tucan Travel is a member of ATAS (AFTA Travel Accreditation Scheme) which is administered by the Australian Federation of Travel Agents (AFTA). All Packages for clients from Australia and New Zealand are protected by a client trust account in Australia where monies are held until your departure or the full cost of your services have been paid for by us. Tucan Travel Pty Ltd in Australia operates as a call centre and acts as an Agent Only and all booking contracts are with Tucan Limited in the United Kingdom. C. Clients booking through Tucan Travel Inc.: Tucan Travel Inc. operates as a call centre in Canada and acts as an Agent Only. All booking contracts made through Tucan Travel Inc. are with Tucan Limited in the United Kingdom and all payments are taken directly in CAD by Tucan Limited in the United Kingdom. Tucan Travel Inc. is licensed by the Travel Industry Council of Ontario (TICO), license number 50022689, and all Packages booked through it are protected by the Compensation Fund subject to the conditions for making a claim against the Fund as set out in the Travel Industry Act, 2002 and Ontario Regulation 26/05. D. Travel Agent bookings: All clients booking through a travel agent (excluding the UK, EEA and Ontario, Canada) are financially protected by the travel agent’s own insolvency protection scheme, which you should check carefully before purchasing your travel arrangements. Tucan Travel is not financially liable due to the insolvency of your travel agent for monies held by your travel agent on our behalf. E. Tour Operator Liability Insurance in the USA: Clients resident in the USA acknowledge and accept that they will only be covered under our Tour Operators Liability Insurance administered by Tucan Limited from the UK under the sole jurisdiction of the English courts only and no other. Any judgements or orders against the Insured in the courts of the USA for the enforcement of foreign judgements whether by way of reciprocal or otherwise are excluded. 19. Foreign Office Advice Tucan Travel welcomes clients from around the world however as a British registered company the lead is taken from the Foreign & Commonwealth Office Advice Service (FCO) www.fco.gov.uk. Tucan Travel reserves the right to cancel, amend or continue the operation of a tour based on, but not solely restricted to, the advice of the FCO. 20. Prompt Assistance If, whilst you are on holiday, you find yourself in difficulty for any reason, we will offer you such prompt assistance as is appropriate in the circumstances. In particular, we will provide you with appropriate information on health services, local authorities and consular assistance, and assistance with distance communications and finding alternative travel arrangements. Where you require assistance which is not owing to any failure by us, our employees or sub-contractors we will not be liable for the costs of any alternative travel arrangements or other such assistance you require. Any supplier, airline or other transport supplier may however pay for or provide refreshments and/or appropriate accommodation and you should make a claim directly to them. Subject to the other terms of these Booking Conditions, we will not be liable for any costs, fees or charges you incur in the above circumstances, if you fail to obtain our prior authorisation before making your own travel arrangements. Furthermore, we reserve the right to charge you a fee for our assistance in the event that the difficulty is caused intentionally by you or a member of your party, or otherwise through your or your party’s negligence. 21. Delays, Missed Transport Arrangements and other Travel Information If you or any member of your party misses your flight or other transport arrangement, it is cancelled or you are subject to a delay of over 3 hours for any reason, you must contact us and the airline or other transport supplier concerned immediately. Under EU Law (it is your responsibility to check your rights for non EU countries), you have rights in some circumstances to refunds and/or compensation from the airline in cases of denied boarding, cancellation or delay to flights. Full details of these rights will be publicised at EU airports and will also be available from airlines. If the airline does not comply with these rules you should complain to the Civil Aviation Authority at www.caa.co.uk/passengers. Reimbursement in such cases is the responsibility of the airline and will not automatically entitle you to a refund of your holiday price from us. If for any reason, you do not claim against the airline and make a claim for compensation from us, you must, at the time of payment of any compensation to you, make a complete assignment to us of the rights you have against the airline in relation to the claim that gives rise to that compensation payment. A delay or cancellation to your flight does not automatically entitle you to cancel any other arrangements even where those arrangements have been made in conjunction with your flight.


P a g e | 36 We cannot accept liability for any delay which is due to any of the reasons set out in clause 4 of these Booking Conditions (which includes the behaviour of any passenger(s) on any flight who, for example, fails to check in or board on time). The carrier(s), flight timings and types of aircraft shown on our website and detailed on your confirmation invoice are for guidance only and are subject to alteration and confirmation. We shall inform you of the identity of the actual carrier(s) as soon as we become aware of it. The latest flight timings will be shown on your tickets which will be despatched to you approximately two weeks before departure. You should check your tickets very carefully immediately on receipt to ensure you have the correct flight times. If flight times change after tickets have been dispatched we will contact you as soon as we can to let you know. Please note the existence of a “Community list” (available for inspection at https://ec.europa.eu/transport/modes/air/safety/air-ban_en) detailing air carriers that are subject to an operating ban with the EU Community. 22. Tucan Travel Company Information All Client Contracts are with Tucan Limited, the Head Office in the United Kingdom. All Tucan Travel offices outside the United Kingdom act as Agent only.
