Friends of Hockey Term 2 Notice

2021 season off to a flying start I am delighted to share the first of what we hope will be many successes over the 2021 Hockey season. Our 1st XI squad played for the annual Melbourne Grammar School International (well local this year) Hockey Cup at Hawthorn Hockey Club from 12-15 April. After pool wins against Melbourne Grammar, Mentone and St Kevins, and a semifinal win against Xavier, our boys today played in the first ever final a CGS team has made … and came away with a well-deserved 3-1 win against Scotch College. Angus Oldham (Year 12) was named best player of the tournament by the umpires. CGS went up 1-0 early and this remained the score until half-time. CGS scored twice more in the third quarter, before Scotch converted a penalty stroke in the final minute of the match. Well done boys! Our 1st XI will play their home games this year at Camberwell Hockey Club, cnr Carinda Road and Matlock Street, Canterbury, generally on Friday afternoons. We are hoping to have the canteen open and look forward to seeing many of the boys down there supporting great schoolboy hockey. Parents also welcome of course!
