Student Free Days Junior School boys are not required at School on Tuesday 11 June, as our Junior School staff will use this day for planning. Monday 24 June is a Student Free Day in both Middle and Senior School. Teachers will be completing endof-semester marking and pastoral care reports on this day.

Week 7 Activities A special thank you to all of our staff who made the special activities of this week possible. Our Middle School students seemed to enjoy their sustainability, civics and Indigenous studies, and it sounds as if our Year 9 students had extraordinary experiences all over the country. The Year 10 students have gained a small insight into the work environment during their very varied work experiences this week.

General Achievement Test (GAT)

Dates Ahead

All Year 11 (studying a Unit 3 and 4) and Year 12 students will sit the General Achievement Test (GAT) on Wednesday 12 June. This test is used regularly to assist with the calculation of final VCE scores, particularly if students are ill during the examination period, or require some other type of special consideration. It is important therefore that each student does their very best in this test. I wish all students the very best for the GAT; I know that the good work they have done already this year will stand them in good stead. • All Year 12 students should be at the PAC by 9.30am. • All Year 11 students studying a Unit 3 and 4 course should be at M30 by 9.30am. • All other Year 11 students are to meet outside W310 at 9.30am for their practice GAT.

The onset of winter brings the usual colds, flu and other assorted infections. Please do not send your son to school if he is unwell. Colds and flu can spread very quickly through our School, and in the interests of all please keep sick children at home. Parents will be asked to pick up their sons if they are clearly unwell at school. If your son is going to be absent from school please email attendance@cgs.vic.edu.au. Thank you for your cooperation with this matter. Rob French, Acting Headmaster

Congratulations on the efforts of all boys and staff through a busy and rewarding Week 7. I was very happy to receive numerous calls of praise from members of the public. Your boys are terrific and as parents you ought to be very proud.

Congratulations A couple of weeks back we congratulated William Watson (Year 6) for his selection in the State Swimming Team. This week William was also selected in the Victorian Under 12 Hockey Team. Last week Taren Rose (Year 8) represented Victoria in Baseball, where his team finished a respectable 4th place.

Through the Project groups of 8-10 boys and girls will collaborate to grow their $10 seed money through a number of creative and entrepreneurial methods; all in the aid of Opportunity International.

Ms Marie Crabbe - Parent Education Seminar

Week 7 Activities

It was wonderful to see a number of Middle School parents at the Parent Education Seminar on ‘Pornography, Young People and Sexuality Today’ at Camberwell Girls Grammar last Tuesday evening. Through her presentation, Ms Crabbe outlined some disturbing statistics, making it clear that we cannot simply ignore the issues outlined in the presentation. She provided several preventative strategies to help protect our children, and highlighted the importance of appropriate web filters and safety settings to avoid accidental exposure to material online. Parents should also become familiar with Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) and whether they are necessary on their children’s devices. Parents can be reassured knowing that our Wellbeing Program caters for the recommendations made on the night and that we follow the ‘Rights and Responsibilities’ program that Ms Crabbe was involved with. The foundational understanding about relationships, digital literacy and critical thinking is strategically incorporated through the Middle School Wellbeing curriculum. More direct discussion around the topic will occur in Year 8 during Term 4, with the assistance of external providers. The same group provide a Parent Seminar prior to these workshops. More details will be provided closer to the time.

Sport

There is no Sport this weekend due to the Queen’s Birthday long weekend. Training recommences from Tuesday in preparation for the final round of AGSV Sport on Saturday 15 June. Fixtures are yet to be confirmed, but Baseball will extend through the holidays. A reminder that training for most teams will finish on Friday 14 June and recommence in Term 3 on Tuesday 16 July. Students should check with the teacher in charge of their team for more information. Is your son looking to keep fit in the lead up to and over the holidays, or wanting to improve his running technique? Elitewellbeing are continuing to host running sessions at the KAO on Monday and Friday mornings from 6.45am to 8.15am during Week 9 and on Friday only in Week 10. Sessions will also be held over the School holidays. They will take place on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9.00am to 11.00am. Students are highly encouraged to attend. A reminder that the Summer Sport Change of Preference form will be open until Friday 14 June. Click here to access the form. If you have any concerns or questions regarding Sport, contact the staff member in charge of your son’s team or contact the Director of Sport by email at dos@cgs.vic.edu.au.

Sport Report Looking for their first win of the season, the First XVIII Football team came into their clash against Ivanhoe with full confidence in their ability to be able to come out on top. The first quarter was not played in Camberwell’s favour as Ivanhoe were harder at the ball and held their structure. Going into quarter time 4 goals down, CGS came back in the second as debutant Ben Craigie (Year 12) kicked his first goal from 50 metres out to start an unlikely Camberwell resurgence. Unfortunately, despite captains’ performances by Ryan Walsh and Lachlan Purcell (both Year 12), it was not meant to be as Ivanhoe came away 42 point winners. Coming into their round 6 clash against Ivanhoe, the First XI Soccer team looked to uphold their current winning streak with a dominant performance to set themselves up for the finals. Key additions saw the full strength line up control the game as Tristan Patsiotis (Year 12) scored an early goal on the back of incredible hard work by both the team’s midfield and defence, led by Jake Oh and Tom Graves (both Year 12). Despite our lead, Ivanhoe made us work hard in the second half as victory was not ensured until late in the half. Goals from Christopher Han (Year 10) and Christos Kalas (Year 11) made sure Camberwell held their top spot on the AGSV ladder. The 7A Hockey team had an early Saturday morning game against Ivanhoe on Saturday with the team buzzing with enthusiasm and excitement as they hoped to get back on the winner’s side after a loss last week. Camberwell scored early, with the opener coming in the 10th minute and the first half ending with Camberwell 3-0 up. The Year 7 boys picked up from where they left off in the second half, as Edward Hare ran up the wings countless times to give the forwards excellent delivery. Domenic Bozzone and Will Aldred starred again as Camberwell ran away with a comfortable 8-0 win. Have a wonderful long weekend and I hope that everyone is ready to get back into the normal sport routine next week. Sam Garrard, Captain of Games Lachlan Crawford, Director of Sport
