Our affordable Stage resources offer great value for money without sacrificing the depth of content needed to master historical concepts and skills. All syllabus topics are covered for every Depth Study, with selected topics provided in digital-only format to ensure that the print books can be both comprehensive and manageable for students in Years 7–10. Site studies are also included for every topic.

History Transformed for Stage 4 and Stage 5 has been written by experienced NSW teachers who bring an empathetic understanding of the curriculum and of the needs of today’s history classroom to the entire resource package.

Overviews are presented in the text as engaging double page spreads with timelines and maps at the start of each section, and more detailed videos that students can watch in class or at home. Further overview material is integrated where appropriate, with each chapter containing at least one activity that explicitly draws on overview content.

Concepts and skills development are embedded throughout the course in a range of activities that help students to make the necessary connections between the skill and the subject matter. These activities are tagged with the relevant skills and concepts being addressed so that teachers can ensure all syllabus areas are covered.

Visible Thinking Routines inspired by Harvard’s Project Zero promote student engagement, understanding and independence. Each chapter begins with a Visible Thinking Routine for initial engagement, while an optional end-of-chapter activity encourages students to reflect on what they have learned throughout the chapter.

Other end-of-chapter activities include extended response questions, groupwork and research activities, a creative task, and a cross-curricular task, giving the teacher a wide range of choices when deciding how to consolidate learning for their students.

The Online Teaching Suite The Online Teaching Suite combines the Interactive Textbook powered by Cambridge Edjin and its rich digital resources with a suite of supplementary resources and a powerful Learning Management System (LMS). It is accessed through a Cambridge GO teacher account. Your Cambridge Education Resource Consultant will provide access to the Online Teaching Suite if your school has purchased or booklisted one or more year levels.

Te a c h e r s u p p o r t •

Access to student Workspace entries and self-assessment allows teachers to easily monitor work, while providing students with the opportunity to alert teachers to problems with specific questions. Teachers can choose to give students access to suggested responses for self-assessment.

The Task Manager function can be used to create a Quick task or a Directed task. The Directed task option allows teachers to set an achievement benchmark for measurable activities that directs students on an activity sequence appropriate to their score.

Quickly create customised tests from a large bank of questions.

Tests can be printed or assigned online for automarking, and are suitable for assessment, homework tasks, practice quizzes and trial exams. The Test Generator comes with a set of ready-made tests, and teachers can also share their customised tests with other teachers in the school, building a whole-school assessment bank.

Authors Stephen Clarke

Martin Garner

Stephen has taught Ancient and Modern History and Languages for 20 years and has been a Head of HSIE and Head of Teaching and Learning in both the public and independent systems. Steve has also taught Ancient History and Education at tertiary level, and completed his PhD in Classical Athenian history at The University of Sydney.

Martin teaches Ancient, Modern and Extension History and English at Mosman High School, and has worked for a number of years as an HSC marker for Ancient History.

Jonathon Dallimore Jonathon is currently a Professional Officer for the History Teachers’ Association of NSW, and is teaching History Methods at UNSW and the University of Wollongong.

Ashley America Ashley is a research assistant for Dr Rosanne Kennedy, tutors multiple courses on twentieth century history at the ANU, and curated a seminar on skills in historical writing.

Luke Bartolo Luke is Head Teacher of Teaching & Learning at a Western Sydney High School. He has a strong interest in Indigenous histories both in Australia and the Americas, and regularly shares resources on his blog at lukebartolo.blogspot.com.au.

Lani Blackman Lani is an Ancient History, Modern History and Legal Studies teacher at Barrenjoey High School. She has presented at a number of HTANSW conferences and study days, contributed to publications with a focus on China and Russia, and has led a teacher study tour to China.

Melissa Bright Melissa is a Modern and Ancient History teacher at Elderslie High School. She has been an HSC marker, was one of the accompanying teachers on the 2019 NSW Premier’s ANZAC Memorial Scholarship Tour, and is co-author of Cambridge Checkpoints HSC Modern History and Power and Authority in the Modern World: 1919–1946.

Tim Briscoe Tim is currently Head of History at Santa Sabina College, Strathfield. He has taught Ancient History, Modern History, and History Extension, and has worked on examination boards for both the HSC and International Baccalaureate.

Kay Carroll Kay is a Lecturer in History Education and Director of the Secondary Teaching Program, Western Sydney University.

She has been a HSIE Head of Department and teacher across Catholic, independent and state schools, and recently supported the implementation of the NSW History Syllabus K–10 in Catholic schools.

To m D u n w o o d i e Tom is currently the Head of English and librarian of Trinity Catholic College in Goulburn. He has previously served as Head of History for the multi-campus M.E.T Schools in NSW. Andrew Finlay

Ashlee Horton Ashlee currently teaches English and History in a Western Sydney High School, where she has also worked in various Head Teacher roles, and has experience teaching students from language backgrounds other than English.

Sasha Joura Sasha is a History and English teacher on the NSW South Coast where she has been teaching at Vincentia High School for ten years. She was a recipient of the 2019 NSW Premier’s History Teachers Association History Scholarship, investigating maritime archaeology and how to integrate it in the NSW curriculum.

Robert Loeffel Robert has taught at Sydney Grammar School for over 15 years, coordinated courses on nineteenth and twentieth century history at UNSW and written textbooks and research works, predominantly on Nazi Germany and World War II. Nicole Matthews Nicole is a HSIE teacher at Narromine High School, in the Central West of NSW. Michael Molkentin Michael is Coordinator of English, Drama and LOTE at Shellharbour Anglican College, an Adjunct Lecturer in History at UNSW Canberra and the author of books and articles on the history of military conflict, aviation and air power.

Andrew Naylor Andrew is currently the Head of History at Wollemi College in Sydney’s western suburbs. Particular areas of interest include Roman, Byzantine and Medieval history and the Samurai period of Japan.

Danielle Raffaele Danielle is an early-career secondary teacher with a passion for History and writing. Before teaching, Danielle was an academic tutor at a number of universities and coordinated a university course on ‘Religions of Asia’.

David Thomas David is currently a Housemaster and teaches Ancient and Modern History at Cranbrook School, where he previously served as the Head of the History Department and has been active in the Gifted Education program. He is co-author of The Great War 1914–1919 and Russia/Soviet Union 1917–1941.

E b o n y To t h Ebony is a passionate Ancient History and English teacher working in a Western Sydney High School, and is an advocate for challenging her students through Project Based Learning.

Andrew is a public high school history teacher in New South Wales. Before teaching, Andrew worked for ten years in a variety of museums in Australia and Singapore as a historian, curator and public programming manager.
