McOnie on Gull’s radar By Savannah Patterson Te Awamutu’s Cole McOnie is in the running – or riding – for Gull’s Top 20 Athletes competition. The national competition invites athletes to compile a video about themselves. “They had around 150 entries, and from that have narrowed it down to a top 20 and from there they will identify five finalists,” the BMZ rider said. The 22-year-old bases himself in Te Awamutu, but over winter lives in the Netherlands so he can race the international season. “I do my best to be a full-time athlete, but there’s a lot of costs involved with that, so when I’m home I work part time and I’m also a student in my fourth year at the University of Waikato.” McOnie says he doesn’t have a coach but is doing his degree in Sports Science, so he is capable of programming and running his own training. “In a few years’ time I think I’d love to be able to work with a world class coach.” McOnie says he has been riding since he was three and has a very supportive family. “Both of my parents have been involved with the sport at a national level and my dad is still a commentator for events all around New Zealand. Mums plan Christmas gifts By Savannah Patterson
Te Awamutu mums Catherine Golledge and Hannah Blake are on a mission to provide free pyjamas for children at Christmas. They met at St Patrick’s School where their children attend and have decided to create Christmas PJs for Kids in an effort to collect new pairs of pyjamas to donate to two charities who will distribute them to families in need. The idea came from Blake who collected more than 40 pairs of pyjamas last year for the Kainga Aroha charity. This year, as well as Kainga Aroha, the parents will be collecting pyjamas for Kids in Need Waikato, a charity based in Cambridge. “Growing up, we didn’t have much but every Christmas eve I knew I would get a new pair of pjs from my mum and I really loved it and looked forward to it,” Blake said. With a solid goal of 200 pairs, Blake and Golledge have already started to receive pyjamas from Whangarei to Invercargill. “I have some great mates who get in behind this, and who knows, next year we may spread the collecting and pyjama distribution to further than around the Waikato.”
Jack Blake and Jacob Golledge check out some of the donated pyjamas.
Pyjamas must be new and can be any size and for any gender. All pyjamas will be gift wrapped by Blake and Golledge and labelled with age and suggested gender before being delivered to the two charities. For more information go to the Facebook page Christmas PJs for Kids or contact Hannah Blake on 0210445787.

Craft fair is a full house New speeds
By Savannah Patterson The Te Awamutu 22nd Annual Craft Fair will be in full swing tomorrow where about 8000 people will gather to look at 100 stalls spread out over Selwyn Park. May Rhodes established the craft fair and says the first fair in 1997 had 40 stalls. Te Awamutu i-SITE manager and organiser Bea Schiller says the event will be another great year for the community with music, food stalls and other entertainment. “Last year’s event was very successful with a great turn out and good weather. “Some stalls completely sold out and everyone really enjoyed themselves.” Schiller says the planning of the event started in July and all stalls have been allocated. She says people travel from surrounding areas to attend the event and everything is New Zealand made. Long-time stall holder Val Hart says she and her husband Tom have been bringing their homemade wooden toys and objects to the craft fair from Huntly for the past seven years. “We’re retired and my husband is quite handy and wanted something to do so he started making wooden toys for his grandchildren.
“We decided to start going to the craft fair after getting more interest in them from other people, so the hobby just grew.” Hart says the fair has vastly improved and grown since they first got involved. “We’re really looking forward to the craft fair this year and seeing the community out and about together.” Paul Garvin is another long-time stall holder who has been going to the craft fair for the past five years. He says he travels each year from New Plymouth to showcase his ‘Sid’s Sauces’. “The event is very well organised and over the years they have steadily increased the number of stalls.” He says he has quite a few regular customers who have purchased various sauces and vinegars from his stall in the past. “The products don’t require any refrigeration and they last for a long time – one bottle lasts about one year, so every craft fair comes just at the right time for those returning customers to get more stock.” Garvin says he has been making the products for about 19 years. “I love coming to the fair, it’s pretty much up the road for me and people seem to enjoy the products as it’s all good New Zealand ingredients. “I look forward to coming back this year.”
limits respected
A check around Waipā schools this week suggested motorists have been quick – no pun intended – to respect new speed limits. The reduced limits were introduced on Monday and impact on town centres, busy rural roads and outside many schools. Schools told the News though not all of the public seemed to have taken notice earlier this week, most parents had. The changes would be, “a first step towards making roads safer for Waipā’s growing population,” Council’s transportation manager Bryan Hudson said. A new website, roadsafetywaipa.nz, has been built so residents can see the where speed changes take effect.
Waipa is one of four districts in the Waikato region to have speed limits lowered. Last week Auckland City Council announced it would also adopt a lower set of speeds for some roads, and more councils are expected to follow suit.
The speed limit in the Te Awamutu town centre dropped to 40km/h this week, one of 200+ speed changes across Waipa.

“I started back in 2001, I was at Hazelmere Kindergarten in The Awamutu and TA BMX Club put on a ‘Kindergarten Challenge’, my dad raced as a kid so he was keen to bring me down, I loved it from the start and have never stopped.” The rider has recently returned home after racing all over Europe in Holland, Belgium, France, Italy, England and also China. “I had the opportunity to race the whole international season, I love to race and love to race the best in the
world, so it’s been great. His international ranking has recently improved to around 75 and he is ranked second in New Zealand. McOnie had one win and three podiums at UCI C1 international races this season and is racing a UCI C1 event in Rotorua in December. “Then I will be heading to Australia in February for four UCI World Cup rounds to kick off the 2020 season and after that I will head back to Europe. “My plan is to just do my best to have a good season next year, getting some good results on the board, and trying
my hardest to qualify for the Olympic team. “It’s going to be tough but with some good racing and a little luck I think I can do it.” He says his big goal is to win an Olympic Gold Medal. “Realistically my big chance for this is 2024 – I’d also love to win a World Championship. “BMX is just what I love, there’s nothing better than sprinting as hard as you can, against seven other guys doing jumps, going 60+km/h, I’ve never found a rush quite like it.

The Waikato Regional Council has successfully prosecuted a company and a city council for environment breaches. A Waikato farming company, B & B Singh Limited, and its sole director, Gurnam Singh, were fined a total of $63,000 for unlawfully discharging farm effluent into the environment at a Morrinsville property in August and September 2018. And Hamilton City Council was fined $54,000 for a discharge of untreated wastewater into the Waikato River from its central city wastewater pumping station on Anzac Parade. Both cases were heard in the Hamilton District Court by Judge Melinda Dickey. She also issued an enforcement order requiring the farmer to install appropriate effluent infrastructure on the property. The prosecution was taken by Waikato Regional Council, under the Resource Management Act, following inspections of the farm’s effluent system. The judge said it was unacceptable that the farmer had been aware of the failings and had not taken steps to address them. The city council case related to an incident almost two years ago when, in February 2018, an estimated 1.7 million litres of wastewater, containing human sewage, was piped into the Waikato River. Hamilton City Council reported the discharge to Waikato Regional Council and it was found that human error had resulted in both the primary and back up equipment, designed to operate the pumps and alarms, had been inadvertently made inoperable. Judge Dickey said the river “required a more robust set of protections”.

Military memories
By Sophie Iremonger
Over 100 military vehicles, hundreds of militaria items and 200 people, from battle reenactors to souvenir sellers, will assemble at Lake Karapiro this weekend to welcome in hundreds of visitors to the annual Armistice in Cambridge event. It’s not a glorification of war, says organiser Grant Moreland, but an opportunity to remember what happened in wars gone by, and the ultimate sacrifices made by very brave men. “It’s that so it doesn’t get forgotten,” said Moreland, curator and owner of the Tauwhare Military Museum five minutes north of Cambridge. “There aren’t a lot of opportunities in New Zealand to see this sort of line up.” He said the past couple of weeks had been “the final mad dash” to get everything ready, and agreed New Zealand roads would have some rather interesting vehicles on them
heading to Mighty River Domain from all over the country. “It’s a good chance once a year for everyone to get together and show off their toys,” he said. “If you’re just going to have it locked away in a shed, what’s the point? Other people should enjoy it too.” The event includes all areas of military heritage, both New Zealand and British, as well as German, Russian, even Roman. “It’s all periods of militaria, there’s a whole lot of different groups that come. “There’s the enthusiasts and collectors, and then we’ve got the horse troop, a few re-enactment clubs, the Romans, Norsemen, archers… they’re all very passionate, to put it politely. They do an awesome job.” Moreland has been involved with the event from the start, when it began in 2000. His dad Andy, who he helped establish the Tauwhare Military Museum, was one of the founders of the event, beginning at Victoria Square before

moving to the Hautapu rugby grounds and eventually Karapiro Lake, where they had more room for exhibitors and sound permits to make things go “bang”. The event starts at 9am on Saturday and Sunday and gates will stay open on Saturday evening for a sunset symphony performance, featuring the Cambridge Brass Band along with an artillery barrage of epic proportions, featuring Greg’s own World War II 25-pounder field gun and a two-pounder anti-tank gun, along with several other guns and historic weapons, all fired by matching soldiers in uniform. “We’re going to be bringing the noise this year,” said Grant, who said one of his favourite parts of the event was getting the chance to actually fire some of his museum pieces. Antique planes will be on display too, flying overhead at 9.30 and 3.45 on Saturday, featuring a Tigermoth, a Chipmonk and a replica german Storch (Stork). On the lake will be an early 1900s steamboat giving rides, and an amphibious WW2 Army DUKW commonly known as the “duck”, being used as part of the D-Day re-enactments. Greg will take along a half-track armoured personnel carrier and another truck, both from the second world war, and a 1966 Alvis Saracen. “And we’ll set up tent where kids can dress up in old military uniforms and have their photo taken with a Vickers heavy machine gun. The kids’ activities are educational as well, that’s the whole idea of it, so they can get involved and learn a bit more about it.” Children can take part in seven of 20 activities to earn a specially made military medal. Event details are on the Facebook page or at armisticeincambridge.org.nz. Tickets will be on sale at the gate at $15 for adults or $5 for children 12 and under.

5000 see the light Cell Tower options reduced By Savannah Patterson
The Light Party drew a huge crowd.
By Savannah Patterson About 5000 people gathered at Selwyn Park last week for the annual Light Party in Te Awamutu. The event organised by the Combined Churches of Te Awamutu has been running for 16 years and is held October 31 every year as a Halloween alternative. The free event saw families enjoy various stalls, food and entertainment as well as amusement rides. Te Awamutu Associate Pastor and organiser Shane Wildermoth says this year’s event was a safe way for children to enjoy Halloween rather than trick-ortreating around the streets. “The Light Party started off as a small event in the community but has quickly grown to become one of the biggest events of the
year. “Its great to see families coming together and children enjoy themselves.” He says over 100 people volunteered from 10 churches to make this a success and 6000 sausages, 2000 drinks and 320 loaves of bread were donated for the day. MC Ashlea Bennett says the park was packed with the crowd getting involved in the music and extra activities. “Thousands of people come every year and it’s so cool to see people in the community get so involved.” Wildermoth says they look forward to organising next year’s event and watching it continue to grow. He would like to thank the Te Awamutu Community Board, the churches and their volunteers and Pak n Save for all their support.
Pirongia’s Tower Action Group have been liaising with Spark to finalise the plans for a vote on where the town’s new cell tower should go – but options put up by the community appear to fall short. TAG is working with Mark Chrisp, an External Planner provided by Waipa District Council. Spokeswoman Jane Shaw said the groups was invited to meet Spark to discuss the progress on the site option investigations and next steps. Spark is planning its national rollout of the next generation of
Measles cases
About half a dozen cases of measles in Waipā are among 34 confirmed cases in Waikato. The Waikato DHB estimates as many as 6000 children in the province Waikato under the age of 15 have not been fully immunised against the measles virus and mumps. Medical Officer of Health, Dr Richard Hoskins said there had also been at least three cases of mumps at the end of October. He said it was important the measles, mumps, rubella vaccine (MMR) is delivered on time to children as part of the national immunisation schedule. “It is sadly still about, especially in young adults in Hamilton please don’t spread it,” he said. “If you get swollen tender cheeks, you need to be in isolation at home for five days after the symptoms start.
technology and it is likely to be at least three years before a new cell site is built in Pirongia to support the existing network. The existing site was upgraded earlier this year and Spark can’t upgrade it any further. The Telco has looked at site options at the town’s Golf Course and a site off Penny Road and found that only the latter is suitable. An original permitted site in the township, hotly opposed by residents, remains an option. Jane Shaw said she was saddened the community would be restricted on what sites it could vote for.
“The committee has always wanted the community to have a voice to selecting a site and for a site to be as far away as possible from any homes or businesses. “We, however, acknowledge that the vote required more than one technically viable site from the feasibility studies and that unfortunately this is now no longer the case. “We have asked Spark to provide a detailed report explaining why the golf course is not viable and hope this will be shared with the Community by the end of November.”

Ag day success for Korakonui Alyssa’s a showstopper By Savannah Patterson
The 85-year-old Challenge Shield is back in the hands of host Korakonui School. The shield is awarded to the school whose team of three students and their calves collectively perform best at the Te Awamutu Group Agriculture Day.
School Ag Day steward and new Waikato Show Delegate Stewart Fitzgerald says it was a great day and awesome to see the shield won by Korakanui. The calves section, dropped last year because of concerns over Mycoplasma, attracted 34 entries.
Shield winner - from left, were Sienna Ropiha, Shane Honeyfield, Jayla Rophia.

Garden ramble
By Savannah Patterson
This search is on in Kihikihi for its top gardens. The annual Kihikihi Garden Competition will see judges looking at gardens this month to select the top three in the neighbourhood. The competition is organised by Kihikihi and Te Awamutu Rotary Clubs and has run for about 10 years.
Te Awamutu’s Alyssa White and her lamb Pepsi collected the 2019 Champion Early Rearing title at last week’s Girls and Boys Agricultural Section of the Waikato A & P Show. The event for children featured some dedicated work by judge. There were about 25 volunteer judges in the lamb and goat sections. Over the previous three weeks they had judged lambs, goats and calves at school days and group days and ahead of the Waikato Show, the premier event in the region. The Te Awamutu region has always had a strong representation of judges at the Waikato Show. Alyssa’s Mother Catherine and Grandmother Wilma are well known in judging and agricultural day circles and have been involved for the last 30 plus years. Catherine White said she was fortunate to have a supportive workplace at Edmonds Judd. “Every year they allow me to change my hours to work around Things went better with Pepsi for Alyssa White. these busy three weeks.”
Organiser Carol Turner says this competition is a great opportunity for residents to tidy up their gardens and keep the community looking beautiful. This year’s judge is Rosalie Barr. She says each judge is different, some love flowers and colour and other look at the overall balance of a garden. “We want to encourage people to look after their gardens and keep them tidy.”
Enjoy your Christmas dinner!
New Zealand’s first takahē chicks of the 2019/2020 season hatched last week at Sanctuary Mountain Maungatautari – including the second set of twins in as many years. The twins hatched inside the wetland enclosure and another single chick hatched around the same time inside the mountain reserve’s Coopers enclosure, Species coordinator Dr Janelle Ward said the chicks were healthy and being welllooked after by their takahē families. They could still be vulnerable to spring weather but would likely do well in the company of their adult parents and siblings. “Nancy and Nguto Whero are excellent parents and have successfully raises twins at least twice in the past and we are thrilled that once again they have hatched twins,” said Ward. “This is still a critical time in the chicks’ lives and not all takahē chicks will survive to adulthood, so we are taking it day by day and observing
by use of cameras rather than disturb the family.” Ward said there was a higher chance of success in raising two chicks at the same time when the previous season’s offspring were on hand to help. In this case, female juvenile “Rob” has already been filmed feeding her younger twin siblings. “She is already being a great helper.” Radio New Zealand reported last month that the population of takahē has passed the 400 mark for the first time in at least a century.
The twins’ older sister Rob has been helping her parents care for the new brood, pictured here feeding one of the chicks.

The species had been considered long extinct before 1948 when the flightless parrot was found in Fiordland’s Murchison Mountains. The Department of Conservation’s takahē recovery programme was credited by Conversation minister Eugenie Sage for the increasing population which is now close to 420. Stolwyk plans to give job “1000 per cent”
By Viv Posselt
New Waipa District Council Deputy Mayor Liz Stolwyk is pledging a full-steam ahead approach to her new role. Stolwyk has been engaged across a range of projects throughout her two terms as a Cambridge ward councillor. A day before her swearing in as the WDC’s deputy mayor, she said she was ready for the next phase. “If I don’t give this 1000 percent, I would be so disappointed with myself. Those who know me know how driven I am. Now, I’m in this immensely privileged position and I don’t intend wasting it.” Stolwyk becomes the Waipa District Council’s first woman deputy mayor. Rosemary Hill was deputy to Pat Allan’s mayoralty in the Cambridge borough pre-amalgamation era of the ‘80s. Both are among several women Stolwyk holds in high regard for their ability to hold the line at a time when there were far fewer women in leadership than there are today. She knows she may be more ‘obvious’ as deputy mayor than was her predecessor Grahame Webber, certainly initially. “I’m a woman and I’m different, I have a young family and I have a profile here.” The scrutiny is unlikely to unhinge her. Stolwyk has gritty women in her lineage, two of whom witnessed her swearing
in last week – her mother Maria Stolwyk and mum-in-law Betsy Reymer. Both Stolwyk and husband Andrew Reymer’s families hail from tough, hard-working Dutch stock that has seen them succeed in New Zealand. Stolwyk’s own success came early. She spent her early years in Edgecumbe and Ruawai, then completed her secondary schooling at Sacred Heart in Hamilton. The shock of moving from gravel roads and party lines to the city was big, but it centred her. Working with people was the goal, tourism was the conduit, and Stolwyk finished top of her class in her first year in Wintec’s foundation course in tourism. Halfway through her second year, she was offered a position at Mystery Creek that proved even more attractive; four years later she left there as senior administrator for Fieldays. By then, she had met a young Andrew Reymer, who was running the tractor pull at Fieldays, but an undeterred Stolwyk was determined to go overseas for at least six months. “I ended up working for Contiki in Europe until I was almost 30. Andrew and I had kept in touch and were married within a year of my coming home.” There was a stint working under John Mitchell at the New Zealand Rugby Union, then a four-year period spent as the inaugural manager of the Cambridge Information Centre, which ended with the birth of her first child. When her son
was just a few months old, Stolwyk was asked if she could ‘fill in’ at what was then Karapiro Domain. That was in 2004, and she is still there now – a cracking 15 years of successful development that has seen Mighty River Domain become a jewel in Cambridge’s crown. Stolwyk always had her eye on the community and to helping the less fortunate. Parallel to raising their three sons, she and Andrew have fostered over 70 children through Oranga Tamariki – some for just a weekend, others for more than 18 months. The same stimulus propelled her into local government in 2013. She decided to visit Cambridge’s sister city Bihoro in 2012 and found herself seated next to Grahame Webber on the nine-hour flight to Japan. “By the time I landed it was pretty much decided I would put my hand up for council,” she smiled. Taking on a leadership role in council wasn’t planned, but she is deeply honoured. She wants to serve the community to the best of her ability and has shuffled things around at Mighty River Domain to facilitate that. “I really want to make a difference, to help Cambridge grow and to make sure we take the community with us.” In the meantime, life for Stolwyk will carry on as normal … family and fostering, hard work and languid camping trips made the richer by board games and no wi-fi.
Waipa's new councillors made official Waipa’s new and returning councillors pledged their allegiance to the district last week in a swearin ceremony to officiate four new councillors and ten returning councillors. It was a new experience for three of the five Cambridge councillors with Mike Pettit, Philip Coles and Roger Gordon taking on the title as councillor for the first time. “It feels great even if I’m slightly nervous with anticipation,” said
Gordon, who along with Pettit and Coles hung up his community board hat for a seat at the council table. “Absolutely gutted I didn’t make it back onto the community board,” said Coles, who was outvoted for representing council on the Cambridge Community Board, Grahame Webber appointed instead during the Friday swear-in ceremony. “But I’m over the moon (to
be made councillor), it’s pretty special,” he said. Gordon likened it to a “big learning curve” and Pettit admitted “it will be challenging” looking at the next three years on council – “a step up on the experience with the community board,” said Gordon. Third-term Mayor Jim Mylchreest felt all 13 councillors had the right attitude to support the growing district in the years to come. “With all the growth we’ve got
going on we need to have positive, ambitious councillors – we don’t want the naysayers saying ‘we don’t want to do anything’ – the district needs to move forward. I’m delighted that everyone of the councillors is really positive.” As for running for a fourth term in 2022, Mylchreest said, “ask me in two years!” “I wouldn’t rule it out by any means, a lot of things can happen in three years. We’ll have to see
how things shape up. But I love the district and I really enjoy working for the community.” The councillors held a brief meeting and set the date for their inaugural meeting for November 1. That afternoon the first meetings of the district’s two community boards were held, with Ange Holt voted chair of the Te Awamutu Community Board and Sue Milner voted chair for Cambridge. Celebration for Swart brothers Brothers Jack and Stephen Swart drew a big audience to the Cambridge Avantidrome on Saturday for the launch of Russell Jones’ new biography The Swart Brothers: Jack and Stephen. The brothers are both pillars who shaped the
cycling scene and the biography captures their very different careers. Stephen raced at the highest level on the roads of America and Europe during cycling’s most controversial era, while Jack shaped racing domestically for over a decade.
Before the event Jones led a retro ride of Waikato’s scenic country lanes and roads (pictured below), with great rivals such as Jack Swart and Stephen Cox often taking the lead. Riders were on vintage steal bikes from the 1970s and 80s racing era. In a Q&A Jones explored key moments of the brothers’
careers and invited members of the audience to share in the storytelling. Coach Max Vertongen and the Swart’s brother, Grant, shared their best wishes via video. At the launch people shared stories of the wild training schedules, free ice creams in Holland, and the bikes borrowed along the
way. Jack Swart said, “The night just blew me away.” Of the book, Stephen Swart said, “It’s a privilege to have this done on our behalf.” The Swart Brothers: Jack and Stephen is the latest book in the New Zealand Cycling Legends series, published by The Kennett Brothers. It is

The bird sculpture at the Te Awamutu Rose Garden has been given a polish and straighten and is back. The sculpture, designed by Ngāti Korokī Kahukura artist Fred Graham, is almost 50 years old. Waipa District Council community facilities team lead Brad Ward said while the repair was “fairly straight forward”, the tricky thing to fix was the pump. “Unfortunately, over time it had become tarnished and bent out of shape. We were
also having problems with the pump, so the water feature wasn’t looking great. These issues have all been fixed now and the fountain is looking superb.” Other work at the garden ahead of its 50th anniversary celebrations have included repairing seats and adding new rubbish bins. Ward said Council contractors had also refurbished the wrought iron gates at the garden, painted the picnic tables and installed new bollards at one of the park entrances.

Nominations in for Waipa sports awards
Nominations for the Waipa District Sports Awards have closed with over 250 nominations for the 2019 sporting excellence awards. Judging is now under way with the winners to be determined at the awards on November 18 at the Don Rowlands Centre, Karapiro. The 250-strong contenders for Waipa sporting titles include the Te Awamutu BMX and cycling clubs in the running for club of the year. Sport Waikato CEO Matthew Cooper was impressed with the quality of this year’s nominees, and thanked those who had put their names forward. “The sporting talent in our region is inspiring and I am really looking forward to our awards evening and celebrating our district’s success,” he said. The winners of the dirtsict awards will go on to represent Waipa at the regional awards to be held in January 2020. The list of finalists is available at www. sportwaikato.org.nz.

FRIDAY NOVEMBER 8, 2019
It takes drive, passion and commitment to achieve the goals you set for yourself. It is hard work. It is relentless with rewards and triumphs often running alongside with adversity and injury. The sportsmen and women nominated for the Waipa Networks District Sports Awards meet tonight to celebrate local, national and international successes. Although there will only be one winner of each of the categories, it is also an opportunity to share experiences, to share dreams and to acknowledge the accomplishments of athletes from many other sporting arenas. It is also important to recognise the essential role that officials, coaches and administrators play in the success of any athlete. From dawn training sessions to evenings under spotlights, from the exuberance of sideline triumphs to untangling locker room squabbles, they are there unwavering in their support and encouragement. Waipa Networks is proud to sponsor the Waipa Networks District Sports Awards. The diversity of teams, individuals and support people nominated reflect the range of sports offered within our community and I congratulate all nominees and wish the best of luck to those who go on to regional and national recognition. Movies…
BELLBIRD On the rolling hills of a northern New Zealand property, third-generation farmer Ross (Marshall Napier) and his adult son Bruce (Cohen Holloway) have plenty of space to avoid their recent tragedy and plenty of cows to tend to instead of people. One of the joys of this warm drama about loss is that the sprawling rural landscapes and poignant pauses bring its characters together rather than push them apart. The assured full-length debut of schoolteacher and filmmaker Hamish Bennett, Bellbird finds comfort, connection and community for its reserved central duo as they endeavour to overcome the loss of the wife and mother who always did all the talking for them. As they both learn that some bonds can’t be broken, viewers discover the gentle joys of an understated drama with an open heart and a lithe sense of humour.
Coffee and Chat The Cancer Society’s coffee group in Te Awamutu is open to anyone living with cancer, as well as those caring for someone affected by cancer. We meet once a month to share information, support and resources. If you are looking for support in a caring environment, from people who have had similar experiences, please join us. When: Monday 11 November Time: 10.30am Where: Te Awamutu RSA, 381 Alexandra St For more information, call Vicki Dranguet on 027 435 3733 or email vickidranguet@cancersociety.org.nz
