Help keep Camden safe While rates of coronavirus remain low across Camden, there has been a small increase in cases over the past few weeks. Help keep each other safe and keep cases low by following public health advice, which includes: • Washing your hands frequently for at least 20 seconds • Keeping a safe distance from others • Wearing a face covering.
If you develop symptoms, self-isolate and get tested by going to nhs.uk/coronavirus or by calling 119. Self-isolating is important because it will prevent you from passing on the virus. If you need support to self-isolate, Camden Council is here to help – call 020 7974 4444 (option 9).
This unsettling time has reinforced just how important schools are for our children and young people, not only for their education but for their mental health and social and physical wellbeing – so it’s great news that schools will be welcoming back all pupils this month. However, as pupils return, we understand this will continue to be a tough time, and that staff and families will share concerns about how schools will maintain a safe environment. I’d like to reassure you that Camden Learning, a partnership between local schools and the Council, and Public Heath have been working to support schools with their preparations to welcome back pupils to an environment where they feel safe. This includes careful planning, rigorous risk assessments and supporting families and staff in every way we can. With the new academic year starting, I’d like to wish all students the best of luck with their studies and reiterate my thanks to our teachers and staff who have worked tirelessly to support their communities throughout this time. Councillor Georgia Gould, Leader of Camden Council

KEEP LONDON SAFE
More Camden libraries set to reopen On Monday 7 September, Kilburn, Kentish Town and Camden Town libraries will reopen, offering customers limited computer access, as well as the opportunity to browse and borrow books. Other Camden libraries already open include: • Pancras Square, West Hampstead and Queen’s Crescent libraries – open for limited computer access • Swiss Cottage, Holborn and Highgate libraries – open for a ‘Request and Read’ service. When visiting Camden libraries, please • Keep a safe distance from others • Wear a face covering • Sanitise and wash your hands regularly.
Camden Council has been working to support schools and nurseries with their preparations to safely welcome back all children and young people from September. Help keep schools safe • Keep washing your hands • Socially distance where possible, especially at the school entrance (your school will let you know what plans are in place) • Stay at home if you or your child (or someone you live with) have symptoms and get tested • Walk, cycle or scoot to school if you can, rather than taking public transport. Support is available You can contact your school with any questions you may have or organise a meeting with your school nurse who can speak to you privately if you have any concerns. For school nurses, email camdenschoolnurses@nhs.net or call 020 3317 2304. To support Camden’s diverse community, advice and support is being translated into a range of languages including Bengali, Somali, Arabic and Turkish, and will be available from your school. Visit camden.gov.uk/schools-children-and-families for more information.
