Coastal Maine Art Workshops is a well respected and long-established Plein Air and Studio class program, one of the best in the country and the only one of its kind on the coast of Maine. Established in the early 80’s in a Mid Coast peninsula fishing village, it has been based in Rockland and Belfast since 2006. Coastal Maine Art Workshops, based out of Rockland and Belfast, Maine, is a thriving educational business offering Plein Air and Studio painting classes along the picturesque Maine Coast and its seaside villages. Over 20 weekly classes are offered annually from July-October. Students visit from all over the USA and overseas with many becoming enthusiastic repeat attendees year after year. Students come from a variety of age groups and demographics. Instructors are top caliber, known nationally and internationally in their respective disciplines. A sample of class titles include: “Exploring Color in the Maine Landscape”, “Capturing the Moment in Light and Color”, and “Beyond Impressionism”. Classes are offered in watercolors, acrylics, pastels, gouache and oils in both Plein Air and Studio settings and offered in all skill levels from beginner to advanced--in cluding some master classes.

The Rockland studio/classroom space offers students an optimal meeting area for classroom instruction and a general gathering area with large picture windows overlooking the harbor. With ample tables, work areas and access to the harbor beach & waterfront area, there is plenty of quality space to learn, connect with others, and grow as an artist. A typical day involves meeting at the studio in the morning to gather and get brief instruction before heading off to various unique painting locations for the day’s assignment and further instruction - all while exploring the gorgeous Maine landscape and culture. Painting venues include classic Maine harbors, idyllic villages, sensational lighthouses, and many off-the-beaten path locations specially identified and vetted for the particular class or assignment. Mid Coast Maine is a visually stunning area with a seemingly endless supply of sites and locations to paint and immerse oneself in the local culture.
Classes are offered in Rockland and Belfast (18 miles apart) with the majority of classes based out of the Rockland campus.
