Accessory Dwelling Unit Camden Santo Design Issues

Primary Ideas

- Designing a small space that functions - Making a connection to the Alleyway that is pleasant - Designing around ADU to create both private and public outdoor space - Creating barriers between the ADU and the Alleyway - Creating opportunities for connections and barriers between ADU and main house (depending on the occupant) - Maximizing sun light on narrow property

- Allow for future opportunities for future connection between ADU and main house - Maximize the amount of sunlight the outdoor space recieves - Create transition space between alleyway and ADU - Use interior built-in furniture to allow for flexible spaces - Allow for flexible occupants in space - Use inovative furniture to allow for flexable space

Design Solutions

Users

- Minimizing circulation space to maximize functional space - Making the alleyway have life by adding landscape and open space - Using barriers to define private verse public outdoor space - Using planting strips to make barriers between alley and residence - Decide how connected you want the ADU to be to the main house - Moving ADU to the North to maximize southern site exposure

This ADU is designed for a wide range of users. It is mostly intended for a single occupant or a couple that share a bedroom. A couch that turns into a bed allows for a guest to spend the night but would not be ideal for a permanent resident. Very minimal stairs allow for someone who is older to live in this house without experiencing any difficulty.
