80’s!

Hat:

The same slouchy shape as the red one. Here Sidsel has attached mother of pearl buttons in all shades of the rainbow. Yarn: Rauma Ullvarefabrikk, Finullgarn and Plum. Sizes: S/M (L/XL). Knitted using 3.5 mm/US 4 and 4 mm/ US 6. Knitting techniques: Stocking stitch, colourwork and rib.

waisted jackets, oversized sweaters, men’s jackets and hotpants — or shorts as we call them now. Those of us who have lived a bit, remember all this from the yuppie era in the 80’s! Text: Tine Solheim PHotos: Miroe, PR & BST-Photos

T

he designs in this chapter might as well have been garments from our 80’s wardrobe! Trend analysts and fashion journalists are all on the same track. There is little innovation at present, all the trends we see are more regurgitation and recycling than ever! Close copies are made from 50’s, 60’s, 70’s and 80’s styles, and historical, vintage romance rules as never before. In addition, a re-make of The Great Gatsby premiered last year with Leonardo di Caprio and elegant 20’s fashions. And again, it is being demonstrated how much influence these movies have on fashion. Are we really creative any more? Do we manage to create something new? Or is what we see a natural reaction to the modern stock-exchange bubbles, crises and excess. Turn the clock back to mother’s cooking, and reverse to an era when everything was safer, more predictable and well known? Those who survive will see... Nevertheless, it is IN to knit!

Stripy jacket 02: The jacket is asymmetrical with raglan decreasing. The double breasted buttons are just for decoration, it is closed with a zip. Yarn: Lana Grossa Elastico Big. Sizes: 36/38 (40/42)

112 CABLE PONCHO: A beautiful garment! This is knitted from the bottom up. The decreasing is done in the stocking stitch panels between the cables, and then slightly further into the pattern so that the poncho fits around the neck. Yarn: Bergere de France, Magic+. Sizes: S/M (L/ XL). Length: 76 (83) cm. Knitted using 5 mm/US 8 and 5.5 mm/ US 9 circular needles. Knitting techniques: Stocking stitch, reverse stocking stich, rib and cables.

n this chapter we have collected a few cozy, autumn garments with a French touch. All are from Bergere de France, which is new on the Scandinavian market. Note the handsome new cable variations in the men’s garments, and the gorgeous ponchos. We just have to knit those, don’t we? Corduroy and velvet trousers reminiscent of the 80’s are super trendy. And so are shorts worn with wool tights.
