ACADEMIC WORKS
Karolinelund’s Cargos
Karolinelund’s Cargos is a Market complex formed by three connected buildings and placed in Karolinelund’s Park in Aalborg, Denmark. The three buildings are represented by the word “Cargos“, because of the industrial character of the surroundings, because of the commercial functions related to the project and because of the main material used (shipping containers) . The journey through the sustainability is embodied in the complex by the series of proposed experiences and functions that cover the three different aspects of the sustainability: Social, Environmental and Economic. Cargo 1 is a Social Centre that provides space for workshops and for other social activities. Cargo 2 is a Greenhouse that answers the need of the existing community gardens in the park for a place to grow vegetables, avoiding the absence of activities related to farming during winter. Cargo 3 hosts a market to answer the high need of a reference place for the purchase of fresh, organic and local products in Aalborg. The whole project is demonstrated to be 100% sustainable from an energetic point of view, it provides a very high quality in terms of atmospheric, visual and thermal comfort and it has a very low overall Co2 impact on the environment.
Hatlehol Church
Church | Hatlehol, Norway 01/2015 | Aalborg University
The project area is located in Norway, in the vicinity of Aalesund, a place rich in nature and where the contrasts are the dominant character. The project aims to connect, both physically and conceptually, the sacred with the profane. Starting from the idea to link the area with the adjacent cemetery, is developed a path that is both physical and spiritual, and that exploits the topography to advantage of the concept. This path represent in fact the human’s journey in the research of faith and follows the ascending terrain to reinforce the spiritual idea and the difficulty of the route. Furtheremore it is surrounded, as in real life, by many profane elements represented by the administrative and collective functions inside the church. The path is also dotted of stages, expressed through the use of the four natural elements to connect once more the building to the nature. There are thus, in a consequential order: earth, water, fire, air and earth again, the last one represented by the presence of an underground cloister (situated under the chapel).
