Brief An innovative lamp dedicated to Smart Working: Declinable and suitable for any environment. Intended for mass consumption.
01 02 03 04
Development As a starting poit for the the project we restarted by identifying the heaviest issues related to smart working. For a smart worker, the inability to organize space and time have proved decisive, smart working has opened up new habits of living at home, users together with objects they have to adapt to these new ways of live, including lamps. We therefore developed the concept starting from the point of view of light, from its way of interacting with the user, from the ability to transform the space in a functional way and aesthetically satisfying. 9

Silente is a smart lamp, equipped with two different light sources that coexist in a single body. With this system you get: a soft ambient light and a direct spot light. The lamp is equipped with a simple pulley system that allows the user to move it in space and easily manage the light beam. It is possible to adjust the intensity of the ambient light using the spherical knob which also acts as a rocker, for ensure the balance of the lamp. Silente is designed to be developed by the Makris company into a family of products, so we opted to offer two variants of the same product: a pendant lamp and a floor lamp. As for the materials, we opted for proposals that could adapt to as many environments as possible, from modern and linear spaces to more classic and traditional. The cap is in black satin aluminum and in blown glass, the body of the lamp can be in tubular welded in aluminum, the knobs in steel and the cables covered in cotton rope available in various colors. 13

Inspo The aesthetic of this lamp is minimal, the shapes are clean and essential. The geometries intersect in a structure that takes inspiration above all from a Japanese style and in particular draws inspiration from the Crane, a symbol of peace and loyalty in Japan. We want to convey with this product the importance of manual skills and the interaction between user, product and space. Silente presents itself as an elegant, clean, light but stable, balanced lamp, suitable for any environment and every need, capable of creating the right atmosphere at any time of the day. 15

Brief The aim of the Synthesis Laboratory is to identify possible product and system solutions capable of exploring new game modes connected to digital transformation to respond, in an increasingly current way, to the challenges of contemporaneity, having children at the center of everything. innovation development process. Design and prototype a product conceived in its systemic meaning (therefore connected to communication and service elements) for children aged 0 to 3 years.
01 02 03 04
Context analysis The first phase of research concerns the need for emotional support, targeting two users: a stressed parent with difficulty in communicating adequately with their child and an 18-36 month old child. During the second phase, various areas of action were assessed, identifying the hospital structure as the most responsive to the guidelines outlined. The problems concerning the area are: fear, loss of routine, difficulty in communicating, the feeling of disorientation and loneliness. We formulated a research question: How can we help the child with oncological pathologies between 18-36 months during hospital stay by implementing solutions to allow him to communicate and live a more serene experience? 23

Development In developing the product, it was essential to deal with different figures present within the hospital: a pediatrician, a nurse, a psychologist and the head of pediatrics at the Pesaro hospital. Thanks to them it was possible to outline a general picture on what aspects were to improve in the vision of a child’s hospitalization: reassure the child allow the relationship favor the adaptation process facilitate the medical process The product, in this case a toy, had to not only be able to satisfy the requirements but to prove itself to be a real one for the child companion of adventures with whom to establish a relationship during the hospital stay. In this way the product is not limited to being a toy for the child but becomes a communication tool with which parents and medical staff could use to interact with the little patient. 25

The product And this is where Charlie was born: a toy concentrated in a product-system that aims to comfort the hospitalized child and facilitate the communication of pain for the medical staff. Charlie is a stuffed animal but not only: the goal of the product is to accompany the child and parent throughout the entire course of care in and out of the hospital. The user receives the product on his first admission to oncology and keeps it forever. To make the user feel always accompanied, just like a travel companion would do, Charlie is divided into a system of products each with specific purposes. The heart of the system is Charlie, whose main function is to facilitate communication between the child and medical staff regarding pain. Being a soft toy, compared to any other type of toy, the child is more willing to establish a close relationship, eliminating inhibition towards the object and favoring an instinctive and more intuitive action. 27

In the tummy of the toy there is a pressure sensor capable of reading the intensity of the pain felt by the child. How? The child, by measuring the force, stimulates the sensor by pressing Charlie’s tummy: a led ring translates the pressure exerted, lighting up from green to red. To get an even more detailed description of the pain, you can use a button located inside the central pin above Charlie’s head, which allows you to choose between four different light patterns.
Mild pain Bearable pain Unbearable pain
Along with the pain therapy, two modes have been implemented for the comfort and play of the child: the night light mode and the huggable mode, which allows the child to store the toy anywhere.
01 02 03 04
Charlie is characterized by a minimal look so that the child is free to imagine the character in the way he prefers. As for the materials, soft contrasting fabrics are indicated, in order to produce different sensations to the touch, in this case we have chosen corduroy and cotton. The materials can be treated with different treatments to make them compliant with the hospital environment.

The system and the service The system is further divided into an application, designed to be a source of useful information for parents and children through infopedia and cartoons. The system is based on a precise rule: Charlie never leaves you alone, in fact, in the rooms where the soft toy cannot help or is not allowed, the child will still find references. Charlie becomes the mascot of the hospital to which he is applied through the use of stickers, posters, cardboard and murals. The system was designed to be produced by the Ludovico company, which had already started up in the sector of supplies for pediatricians, and then to be destined for the Bambin Gesù Pediatric Hospital in Rome, which specializes in pediatric oncology. 31

Playtest Practical feedback was fundamental, obtained through three experiences: the first was a presentation at the Mangiagalli hospital in Milan, all of which was followed by Dr. Filocamo pediatric rheumatology specialist who gave positive opinions. A playtest was then carried out with a girl who had just been discharged from hospital after colic: Elisa, two years old. During the experience, all possible system functions were simulated: the story, the cartoon, the communication of pain and the night light. The little girl had a lot of fun. The last moment of confrontation took place at the “La Puperia” nursery school in Affori, where we presented the soft toy to a class of 25 children between 14 and 36 months to test the intuitiveness and practicality of the mechanism placed in Charlie’s tummy. Being healthy children, we gave a different meaning to the colors of the ring, asking them to quantify the happiness, anger or boredom felt at that juncture, this allowed us to note that the toy can also be used for the communication of emotions. 35

Brief Smart home furniture and accessories: exploration of the possibilities linked to the integration between elements and accessories of domestic furniture and new information and communication technologies (ICT).
01 02 03 04
Development The increasingly clear trend towards smart working has accentuated the need for various types of users to organize and subdivide even the smallest spaces in a satisfactory way. Considering small sizes of houses such as studios and apartments, we have designed a highly functional piece of furniture, which would help the user to organize and compact the space according to their needs. Considering the furnishings in the offices, the goal was to make the space compact but complete and easily accessible, studying in detail all the movements and gestures that a single user could play in short distances. 41

Inspo Decoration and function coexist in a wall system with essential, well-proportioned shapes and geometric cuts. The earthy colors contribute to the sensation of warmth and liveliness to the complex, in contrast to the common association of the work area with an impersonal and aseptic space. The young but elegant style adapts to any type of domestic space and is inspired above all by an aesthetic that has its roots in Scandinavian design, not only thanks to the colors but above all to the matte, warm finishes tha invite the user to approach the product. 45

The product Thus was born Khassy: a modular wall system, which combines function and decoration, where volumes emerge as from a pop up book. Khassy was created with the aim of guaranteeing the user the ability to organize a private and personal space, a compact but complete microcosm, freely configurable in the context of the apartment, which can be shared. The functional aspect does not want to transcend the scenographic one, usually neglected by this category of products: in addition to container elements and supports, accessories with a purely ornamental purpose are provided, aimed at giving the space visual impact and characterization. 47

Positioning in the company To define the shapes and style of Khassy it was essential to refer to Muuto, a Danish company that produces small complements furnishings, lights and furniture with the aim of giving a change to the tradition of Scandinavian design. The word “Muuto”, from the Finnish “Muutos” means “change, search for a new perspective”, a fundamental concept that guided Khassy’s design. To be consistent with the brand, the same materials and production processes that the company already uses for other furnishings in the catalog have been indicated. In these pages, Khassy is included in the Muuto 2019 catalog, under the heading Shelving and storage.

Brief Design and prototype one or more lamps by specifically choosing a type of lighting to be recreated in the most effective way possible.
01 02 03 04
Development The goal set right from the start was to be able to design a lamp that would exploit a diffused light effect. For Satellite we focused on the refraction of light. In optics, refraction occurs when a light wave passes from one medium to another having a different refractive index. On the edge of the two media, the phase velocity of the wave is modified, changes direction and its wavelength increases or decreases. Light rays refract as they enter or leave the glass. 57

The product Entirely made of PVC, Satellite is a table lamp that creates a relaxing atmosphere thanks to the diffused light. Its elegant and decisive shapes give a touch of elegance to the environment. By exploiting the refraction of light, Satellite is able to radiate both diffused light and to elaborate plays of light and shadows in the surrounding environment. The diffused light comes from the completely satinfinished central tube, inside which there is a strip of LEDs. The play of light is allowed by the 15 laser-cut PVC ellipses, inserted in the central tube. The light of the LEDs propagates in all the ellipses, illuminating only the edge, thus creating a suggestive play of volumes and light. A further peculiarity of this lamp is always due to the ellipses that lend themselves as a support to hold the lamp upright, the ellipses can rotate around the central tube, allowing anyone to choose their own configuration. 59

Brief Conceiving and designing an installation inspired by the works of the visual artist Vincenzo Marsiglia that keeps light and the artist’s stylistic and design inspirations as a central focus.
01 02 03 04
Development The main idea of the project was to create a lamp using the origami modules used by Vincenzo Marsiglia in his projects. As a link with origami I decided to create a project in tribute to Japanese culture and draw inspiration for this lamp above all from the traditional Xylographies of Hokusai in which the Kanagawa waves are represented. The main objective of this lamp is to be used at the same time both as an art installation for an eventual display and as a piece of furniture within a geometric context. 67

The product Nami波 is a suspension lamp, in which the origami modules are joined together in a single large wave that descends softly from the ceiling. It is no coincidence that Nami, from Japanese, really means wave. The goal of this lamp is to convey a sense of welcome and amazement to anyone who stops to observe it. The wave must invite spectators to travel its entire length without taking their eyes off the ceiling, in this way the lamp transforms the space into a path and invites the spectators to walk along it with its light and sinuous curves. 69

Design details The whole structure develops from the origami modules made of rice paper and which are joined together in a single large wave. The modules are supported by nylon cables. Above the origami pattern we find the light source, three LED strips that follow the wavelength to distribute the light evenly. To support the whole structure we find a wooden frame fixed to the ceiling, supported by adjustable steel cables and part of the suspension hooking system of the whole structure. From the frame converge the nylon threads that hold the origami wave in suspension. 71

The light source “It is delightful to be immersed in this kind of liquid light that makes us different and suspended beings.” Paul Claudel Three LED stripes are used for the lighting system positioned above the origami wave, enclosed in an extruded tube that diffuses the light evenly and follows the inclination of the origami wave. The LEDs are adjustable via remote control. The basic light source is neutral white light, which can change intensity bright and color. For the lamp in particular, the idea was to create a gradient of colored light that emulated the movement of the waves: it goes from a dark blue light to a bright green to a neutral white. 73

New meaning of sound and music after Corona // コロナ後の音、 音楽の新しい在り方 Studio Suzuki in collaboration with Yamaha intends to investigate the theme of music at the time of Covid 19. In a scenario of global pandemic, music has not stopped, on the contrary, it has spread with greater intensity and has been shared in different ways through instruments music and electronic devices. The goal of the workshop is the design of products or services capable of creating sharing thanks to the union of music, technology and sensitivity in an era in which people seek greater spiritual satisfaction and authenticity.

Development The quarantine period has outlined the need to live in a welcoming and satisfying place, able to maintain a good mood and guarantee ideal comfort. It was necessary to focus on well-being linked to the environment. Our goal was to keep the environment alive, interesting and stimulating, creating a real sensory experience for the user. To do this we have identified how music therapy and chromotherapy together could be the best way to go. 77

They are speaker-projectors, compact, easy to use and absolutely not bulky. The cash desk does not connect to the mobile phone but is an object for its own sake, the aim is to create relaxing ambient sounds, which can help the user to melt after a long day of smart working and to fully experience the environment. The projector reacts to the environmental noises produced by the speaker and projects abstract images, which, using chromotherapy, accompany the user in a sensory experience. 79

Brief The goal of the workshop is to take the Escape Puzzle experience to the next level, increase engagement with actual users and find new ones, to be one step ahead of the competition. This workshop aims to enhance the generation of ideas and concept generation of the creative phase of the current process flow of the project for the launch of Exit 2.0 in September 2022. The goal is to create international development for the most relevant markets: Germany, the United States, France, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom.

Inspo and development After thorough research, we began to develop the project taking into account the trends in the world of boxed games, in particular a more interaction with technology. We thought it was interesting to expand the puzzle by inserting a storytelling that could bring together and guide the players, we took a cue in particular from the figure of the narrator and storyteller. Here is starting the idea of giving a mythological background to the whole. After all, what better than epic poems with heroes and gods could he best offer to adventure players, riddles, deceptions and lots of fun? 87

The puzzle, after being assembled, becomes the players’ game board. Each constellation represents a piece of the history of Hercules: for each constellation our hero will face riddles. The objective of the players is to help Hercules to overcome all the trials and the Toils. During the solving of the puzzles the players will collect numbers and clues that put together will create a combination to be inserted in a new Spotify audio track to unlock new stories, in this way the game itself becomes expandable. The stories are available in the form of Podcasts on Spotify, the app is simple, fast and easily accessible.
01 02 03 04
This new game mode is designed to enrich the current type of Escape Puzzle offered by Ravensburger, the game is suitable both for a target of people linked to traditional games, and for people more attached to technology, it is suitable for both games of both group and single. An added value is certainly the educational aspect present in this version of the game.

Brief The aim of the workshop is to design an installation for the Fuorisalone 2020 for the Bovisa district in collaboration with C.M.C. 2.0 and The Playful Living, reconnecting to the space already present in Tortona.
01 02 03 04
Development and Inspirations For this project, attention was focused on the family unit and the problem of stress. Anyone now has to deal with stress, young and old. Precisely for this reason, the development of the project aims to create an experience that wants to be inclusive for both children and adults, in order to create a cohesion between the two ways of doing. Anti-stress has thus become the main inspiration guiding the project. To create a place that would constitute a new type of refuge for the child, it was necessary to start from what is everyone’s den, that is the house and specifically the living area. In the living area the child is almost always added, this area existed before his arrival and his presence is only a modifier. From the point of view of the room of calm, however, the child becomes the generating principle of the space. 95

The comunication strategy For the week of the Fuorisalone it is important to adopt the most effective communication strategy. For the occasion, it was more appropriate to focus on a type of communication for social networks together with urban communication, present in various areas of the city, that could stand out to the eye and intrigue the public. For the social campaign, for The Playful Living, events have been designed to which influencers and insta-parents will be invited to participate, thus promoting the space, initiatives and events related to the company. As far as CMC2.0 is concerned, a campaign aimed at irony was conceived, with the format “Even concrete can be relaxing” which in this case aims at communication through signs, flyers, flyers and urban stations decorated for the occasion. 101

UNESCO and the Decade of the Sea for the United Nations The United Nations has declared 2021 - 2030 the “Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development”. This initiative aims to mobilize the scientific community, governments, the private sector and civil society around a joint research and technological innovation agenda. According to the Manifesto, the goal of the Decade is to mobilize all sectors of civil society to promote radical change in the way we study and manage our ocean. With almost 7,500 kilometers of coastline, Italy boasts a naturalistic heritage of extraordinary beauty and can only play a fundamental role by significantly contributing to defining the struggle of this international effort. 107

KOBE BRYANT
You guys know that, if you do the work, if you work hard enough, your dreams come true. [...] But, hopefully, what you’ll get from tonight is the understanding that, those times when you wake up early and you work hard, those times when you stay up late and you work hard, those times when you don’t feel like working, you’re too tired, you don’t want to push yourself but you do it anyway, that is actually the dream. That’s the dream. It’s not the destination, it’s the journey. And, if you guys can understand that, then what you’ll see happen is that you won’t accomplish your dreams; your dreams won’t come true. Something greater will! Mamba out!”

JOKER

Un uomo solo | That's life
Aver
*You can read the english version at page 19

What is Forwart? It was a project carried out with some students and former students of the Politecnico di Milano, which initially met in Forwart Magazine, an online magazine on contemporary art, born in early 2018. In 2019 the project grew and Forwart became a cultural Association. Within the magazine (and then the association) I had the opportunity to experiment and test myself, first as an editor (journalist) and photojournalist, then as Project Manager of the Magazine section from September 2019, until September 2020 . Here below and in the following pages, some articles and photo reports published in the magazine

Notre Dame after the fire: will we be able to see the cathedral after the restoration? On April 15th, the whole world was shaken by one of the most shocking events in the history of Western art: the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, besieged by flames from dusk until late at night, collapsed in on itself, just like in the setting of an apocalyptic film.
