With no grand monuments or manuscripts that predate the arrival of the Spanish, the one thing we Filipinos can look at to learn about our precolonial history is gold. Gold has always been plentiful in the Philippines and our ancestors were renowned goldsmiths who used their skill to create exquisite jewelry and wares. Many of these exquisite pieces reveal a technical prowess of an intrepid people and their prosperity and achievements.
