plans of the different floors, starting from groundfloor from left to right and up to down

The ambition of Dexia Art Center is to become a stimulating element to the cultural life of Brussels by providing an architectural framework that is both flexible and unique. Ideally located in the city center, identity of Dexia Art Center lies in its modularity and the many activities that will coexist inside. The ground floor will accommodate all programs through its furnishings, as well as its modular partitioning system. It will offer different spatial and cultural experiences always echoing the urban pulse of Brussels. Diversity of programs shows that the different floors have to be thought in order to give high space quality while keeping a strong adaptation capacity. Programmatic boxes are used in the entire building. Easily movable, their place, skin and colors are adjustable. In this way those boxes are both furnitures and partitions, they can be interpreted as movable rooms and as partition tools. It responds to the different functions while preserving adaptability on each floor. An impressive central atrium links, visually and spatially, all the functions

Hong Kong // A Prospective Portrait 1 location · Hong Kong, China programs · urban interventions year · 2014 project type · graduation project

Hong Kong is extreme by many aspects, density, geography, economy, it hosts architectural types that express metaphorically some very exclusive characteristics, representative of Hong Kong’s identity. By transposing those types in a different context which correspond to the “natural reserves / next development zones” (Frontier Closed Area) on the north territory, we can see the questions asked by Hong Kong’s development strategy. The six selected typologies coexist into two compositions but stay independent in the way they work. In the same way that city generated new architectural models that represent itself, we can use the same models to build new urban situations. Their juxtaposition traduces, more than a plausible scenario, the multitude of the factors those architectural tools are playing with.

The two compositions on the frontier closed area : jing chuang xing canal (1) ; lok ma chau loop (2)

The transpositions are economical, political, social and architectural. The main question still is : In this context where economy alone generates a building, when does the human feeling of architecture appear?

«Superposition of the different networks leads to choose figures (or pearls) that represent every time a specific condition on the site»

We studied the city of Shanghai and its outskirts as a part of the Nankin Shanghai Hanghzou Ningbo megalopolis (what will be called «the big Z»). The new city of Songjiang, near Shanghaî, was created to accomodate a new university on a 533 hectare campus. Marketed as China’s biggest campus to study the service industry, its dynamic is entirely self-sufficient, disconnected from urban hubs. My project aims to reserve this tendency, by using the potential of the campus to activate the area and thus create new hubs. There are several of those potentials in Songjiang : pearls. Each one offers a specific environment responding to the area’s needs. They are related to each other by thread, a stimulator. Rather than simply link the hubs or represent a clean limit between them, this thread emphasises the territory’s different landscape, offering plausible hybrid situations. The link between the pearls ant the thread are defined by different goals : to join, to frame, to cross, to separate, to enrich, to preserve.

Each pearl is developped in order to emerge relevant situations that ask questions concerning Shanghai at a larger scale. The thread of those pearls make it a coherent system.

The Clasp location · Songjiang, near Shanghai , China programs · multiple urban interventions, multimodal node year · 2012 project type · overseas project

exploded axonometry of the entire installation

The Songjiang hub (South-West of Shanghai) groups several different transport networks (bullet train, roads, tram, metro...), local as well as global transports. This hub acts like the clasp of the pearl necklace, retaining large-scale circulation systems and redistributing them locally thanks to the infrastructures of the necklace. On site scale, it connect several urban fabrics : Songjiang’s housing, a park, a «speculation area», and industrial and agricultural zones. The aim of the clasp is also to reveal Songjiang’s different landscapes. It links the existing residential city to the park and towers above the infrastructure to offer a view point over industry and agriculture. The Clasp, paved and in the shape of a disk, becomes a landmark identifying the area. Different programs occupy the square, mainly offices, which finance the creation of such an imposing infrastructure. Amidst this density are different types of voids, which generate particular and specific environments. Continuity of paving on the ground floor creates specificity for the office foyers and entrance lobbies. The porous square offers views up towards the different infrastructures above and allows one to fully grasp the extent of the machine.

The Metropolitan Door location · Paris, France programs · an aquatic resort (3500 m²), an olympic pool, a musical complex (2000 m²) year · 2011 project type · student project

exploded drawing of the project showing the structure and the main hall (opposite)

This project hosts a 3500 m² aquatic resort with an Olympic pool and a 2000 m² musical complex which includes two concert halls. This project is located on a particular plot at the junction between the highway and the Parisian ring. The plot has been chosen in order to stimulate the thinking on the «left out» spaces in urban context. In a time when infrastructures are becoming larger and larger, more and more important and more and more disconnected, residual spaces that are generated are a major point of urban development. The lack of space inherent to the city condition leads to ask this quetion: how can we use «bad spaces», wastelands, under highways fields, all those plots that we can’t live in? The structure of the building allows it to over-cross the highway and the Parisian ring road and generates special interior spaces. The building uses the highway to mark the entrance of Paris and to reconnect the highway to its context. Into this project the architectural feeling is created by living into the structure. All the programs are organized around a central circulation space, a large void that goes through the entire building but its goal is also to become an emblematic sign of the city. A large planted portico continues the building and marks the beginning of the Jean Moulin’s departmental park. The building becomes a double door opening both on the city and on the park.

Living In The Gap location · Mantes la jolie (92), France programs · housing project with thirty flats year · 2011 project type · student project

The project is a housing group of thirty flats in the city of Mantes la Jolie, near Paris. This housing group has been thought to generate a particular space by playing on the contrasts of materials and lights. The main hall is the principal space of this project. Its slanting walls are made in rough concrete that contrast with the white façade outside. Each one of the thirty apartments of ‘‘the gap’’ is unique. They are served by footbridges which wind along the oblique walls of the open-sky main hall. Each and every flat has its terrace which is shared with a neighbor. In this way apartments are particular and transmit community sense of housing while inculcating a modern and responsible practice for the housing.

Going Through location · Paris, next to the bastille opera programs · 300 hostel rooms, a fitness club and a restaurant year · 2012 project type · student project

exploded axonometry of the structure (opposite)

This project is an hostel with three hundred bedrooms next to Bastille opera. The building is on a plot between the opera’s backstages, an hospital and the end of the «green path». This project obey to three needs : to conciliate those three strong entities ; to offer a special public space ; and to end up properly the «green path». Two structural elements host the program : an external structural frame (black in the upside picture) and two massive concrete walls that structure heart of the building (grey in the upside picture). The external frame can be penetrate without entering the building, it seperates the street from the public space. The building is a trouble-shooter while being a piece of architecture and so it visualy authorize the green path to go through its heart and to end in its public space via the main stair. In the same way the hostel respect the height of the opera and align its structure to it.
