North York Seniors Centre – NYSC during COVID-19 – Since the beginning of the pandemic, North York Seniors Centre has pivoted programs and services to help 2500+ older adults overcome the negative effects of isolation. On-line and telephone programming have assisted seniors and caregivers access the help they need, be active and connect with friends. NYSC has played an important role in delivering essential services to our community – daily reassurance calls to check on lonely ones, in-home care to assist the most fragile, grocery shopping and food hamper deliveries to the elderly, and transportation rides to medical appointments and vaccination clinics – vital supports to meet the most basic of needs of seniors.
Seniors Month 2021 Every June is ‘SENIORS MONTH’, and at North York Seniors Centre, we raise the flag of our cause to support seniors in the community!
– Over one year of impact – - 1000+ Activities delivered via social media and Zoom - 7000 + Activities delivered by phone platform - 7000 + Reassurance calls to seniors and caregivers
Once again, and due to the pandemic, this year we are unable to hold any of our in-person celebrations and fundraisers. Even though we can’t celebrate together this June, we still need your help to help others.
- 8000 + Essential transportation rides
This Seniors month, we are calling on your support in assisting those who are lonely, and experiencing increased physical and mental health decline as this pandemic continues. It’s been over 500 DAYS of closure and the fatigue and effects of isolation are getting more difficult for all of us. This has been hard – especially for the elderly.
- 7345 + Hours of personal care for seniors at their home
With vaccines rolling out faster and the warmer weather here, hope is rising. Now is the time to recover, rebuild and plan for tomorrow, so we can celebrate together again! It will take some time and effort to get back into shape, and the time to act is now. There is much work to be done to support the recovery and re-connection of those who have been affected the most. We know we can do it, but we need your help NOW.
- 1050 + Food hampers/meals delivered
This June, help seniors in our community to re-connect by supporting NYSC programs and services. With your donation today we can see a safe and vibrant future. DONATE NOW! Donations of $10 or more will receive an official tax receipt.

Are you 65 years of age or older? Would you like to help seniors keep well?
The Alzheimer Society of Canada, in partnership with the College of Family Physicians of Canada, is asking you to participate in this 20-minute survey to help usunderstand your experience with the care you receive from your family physician or other healthcare provider.
Researchers at North York General Hospital need your help to participate in a research study (funded by the Ontario Ministry of Health) to test “KeepWell”, a new web-based application that was created by seniors for seniors!
Your experience is essential for us to design and develop new dementia care resources so family physicians can better support people and their caregivers through the dementia journey. The Alzheimer Society will also be able to create culturally specific dementia tools so we can address the gaps in supports and services for diverse communities. There are two surveys: one for people living with dementia, and one for caregivers of people with dementia.
alzheimer.ca/en/take-action/change-minds/dementiajourney-survey If you have any questions, you can reach out to one of the lead investigators either by email (research@alzheimer.ca) or calling 1-416-669-5715.
KeepWell was designed to empower seniors to make positive lifestyle changes toward keeping well. No travel is required for your participation, you can use the KeepWell App at your leisure from the comfort of your own home! To be eligible, you must: • Be 65 years of age or older (or turning 65 this year) • Have one or more chronic diseases (for example, diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, COPD, osteoporosis, depression) • Have an email account • Have access to a computer or tablet device By taking part in this research project, you can play a valuable role in helping seniors! For more information. You can also visit:
www.nygh.on.ca/keepwell - Email: keepwell@nygh.on.ca - or Phone: 416 209 4055 or 416 540 7519 How will my information be used? Your participation in this evaluation study will help us to understand the effectiveness of the keep well application for helping seniors to manage their health and wellness. From June 1 – 30, every $1 donated to NYSC through CanadaHelps gives us a chance to win $20,000*. We rely on our donors around this limited-time opportunity to boost our chances to make a greater impact on the lives of over 2500 seniors. Here’s how it works: Every dollar donated to NORTH YORK SENIORS CENTRE in June, via CanadaHelps.org or CanadaHelps fundraising tools, is an entry for a chance to win $20,000*. Every charity using CanadaHelps is automatically entered. The more dollars raised, the more chances we have to win!
