VERSAPETROL OIL COMPANY Place: Maracaibo, Venezuela Architect: Camilo Martens Architecture Studio: Nones + Nones Date: 2017
The oil company Versapetrol needed new headquarters in the city of Maracaibo. It was proposed to design the offices in shades of gray and blue scales, to highlight the metal structure of the ceiling and virtually separating spaces with tempered glass panels. The use of stainless steel and wood allowed to recreate a serious and elegant atmosphere. The main axis of the design was the floor, following a carpet pattern using a chromatic scale of colors in squares of 50 x 50 cm. A fundamental part of this interior design was the union of spaces for teamwork as well as offices for executives, which allowed privacy but at the same time a spatial virtuality that invites workers to interact with each other.

GASTRONOMIC AND COMMUNITY CENTER Place: Maracaibo, Venezuela Architect: Camilo Martens Author: Valeria Goméz Date: 2017
Exterior Rendering This project was developed by an architecture student as part of their degree project. Based on their investigation and architectural plan I created the rendering, artistic expression and overall visualization for presentation purposes since this laid outside of their examination scope. The complex consists of three large commercial establishments highlighting the main produce of the area, which is fish. The establishments also function as spaces for entertainment during night and serve the purpose of an ecological reservoir for the area, since the development of the complex includes the maintenance and preservation of the mangroves. The complex is made up of a restaurant, a coffee bar and a seafood market, joined by a central square composed of public recreation spaces that allow visitors to enjoy the coastal areas of the city. Due to the detrimental impact a bridged access to the island would have on its ecosystem the complex has a single access by sea. Additionally a self-sufficiency ecological energy plan is proposed to ensure the project’s viability and sustainability.. viability and sustainability.

102 SEAGRAPE Place: Miami, United States Architect: Camilo Martens Architecture Studio: Wade Architecs Date: 2021
Exterior Rendering Seagrape 102 is part of a collaboration with the architecture studio Wade Architects, located in Miami. The project is based on the fundamental idea that houses in that area must be elevated by law since they are surrounded by artificial channels and are exposed to floods. The design uses straight lines and a gridded composition but respects the classic lines of the style used in other homes in the area. A native limestone of the area was combined with a white exterior finishing and details in stainless steel and brown colored aluminum. All the lower areas are used to optimize the spaces and create functionality as a garage, storage rooms, covered gym and a living area for the pool in the backside of the house.

1641 SOUTH BAYSHORE Place: Miami, United States Architect: Camilo Martens Architecture Studio: Wade Architecs Date: 2020
Exterior Rendering South Bayshore is located on the mainland in the Miami area. The original topography was used as a staring point to create a spacious house with all the services including the basement area. To enhance the design of the house and create visual movement, a landscape garden was placed in the front area, using the topography and a natural rocky composition at the entrance. This allowed to play with the height of the house and the street in connection with a low fence to allow for appreciation of the design from a street level perspective. Additionally, wood and white finishes were used in combination with glass panels and stainless steel profiles.

Exterior Rendering
Cinnamon Bareline is located in a protected area of the city of Miami, a fundametal part of this project was to respect the vegetation that surrounds the land where the house is proposed. The design lines also had to respect the styles used in neighboring houses to maintain a harmony in the area. The design follows classic and commonly used lines in North American architecture with an addition of white details throughout the house and gray metal only for the ceiling.

KITCHEN RENOVATION Place: Ontario, Canada Architect: Camilo Martens Architecture Studio: Jim Stewart & Asoc. Date: 2021
Interior Rendering This project is one of the collaborations I have done with Jim Stewart’s architecture firm in Ontario, Canada. It consisted of an interior designproposal for a kitchen in black and white with classic lines. White was used for the storage spaces and black for the details on the handles. In the upper cabinets black was used for the interiors and glass doors were proposed to create depth. The central island was designed as a rectangular in black to create contrast with the rest of the kitchen. All countertops are made of large-format marble with black and white veins to cut the strictness of the area. Additional appliances were chosen in black stainless steel to match the color scheme.

STIRLING HOUSE Place: Ontario, Canada Architect: Camilo Martens Architecture Studio: Jim Stewart & Asoc. Date: 2021
Exterior Rendering Stirling house is an exterior design proposal from the ground up as a home for an older couple. It is located on the outskirts of Ontario and the land where it is located has a slope in the back. To utilize the natural slope of the ground, a semi basement is created for storage and recreation purposes. The house has high ceilings and large windows allowing the interior part to be connected with the external nature. Materials typical of the region such as stone and wood were used. To match these materials, the design uses a palette of gray and blue tones creating a warm home. Details in natural wood in the entrance, give hierarchy to the the central part of the house. The property has a wide area surrounding the construction that allows appreciation from any angle.

URBAN INTERMODAL TERMINAL Intermodal terminal for the consolidation of the Curva de Molina sustainable urban mobility sub-center. Place: Maracaibo, Venezuela Architect: Camilo Martens Degree Work 2017 Date: 2017
This project marks the end of my undergraduate studies as my final degree project. The project consisted of an intermodal terminal in an area with lacking services in the city of Maracaibo. The terminal not only functions as a central node for transportation services, but also offers public services, spaces for commerce, leisure and ecological areas for recreation. A fundamental part of the proposal was
VENEZUELA
ZULIA
MARACAIBO
to use and recycle an existing unused structure on site to enhance the financial viability of the project. In addition to the terminal, an urban traffic circulation proposal was developed to improve the area’s traffic problem, benefiting 250,000 inhabitants.

URBAN ANALYSIS
For the urban proposal, the entire municipality of Maracaibo was analyzed to determine what functions and services the urban center needed temporarily and permanently. The analysis included the investigation of traffic circulation nodes throughout the municipality and concluded that the city of Maracaibo is a polycentric city.

MAIN FLOORPLAN
In the proposal at the floorplan level a landscaping work was carried out that wraps the different modules of the complex and creates a permeability of the parking areas, providing them with multiple types of uses, in this way the urban space is used in its entirety and allows renting each area of the complex.

SECTION C
For the urban proposal, it was determined that the area lacked a proper public transport network. A network of tunnels was proposed at the semi-underground level where they would be used by the transport system. The BTR Bus system was chosen for its easy adaptation to areas of difficult intervention. In this way, lowering transport by one level allows the surface area of the street to be transformed into a semi-pedestrian boulevard, where traffic is limited to local traffic, thus eliminating environmental congestion and noise pollution in the area.

LATIN AMERICAN MUSEUM OSWALDO VIGAS Place: Maracaibo, Venezuela Architect: Camilo Martens Architecture Semester: 4 Semester Date: 2014
The Oswaldo Vigas Latin American Art Museum was my first design project in the service branch. The idea was to intervene in a land in the center of the city of Maracaibo where there used to be a square called `` Science square‘’. This square had no specific use and lent itself to wrongdoings and crime. The proposal was developed to give a cultural use to the site and since in the city of Maracaibo there is no museum that exhibits the plastic art-works of great Latin American artists as well as pre-colonial and indigenous art. The building consists of two independent modules with public artifacts and free exhibitions allocated in one of the modules and exclusive temporary collections in the other one, including a collection of the Venezuelan artist Oswaldo Vigas, who is honored in this museum. The proposal also includes commercial areas and a restaurant to promote the continuous usage of the space as well as numerous green areas and open air entertainment. The design of the museum highlights a juxtaposition of architectural styles in the area ranging from colonial to modern and in this case contemporary futuristic architecture, thus exposing the evolution of the historic city center.

MULTI-FAMILY HOUSING Place: Maracaibo, Venezuela Architect: Camilo Martens Architecture Semester: 5 Semester Date: 2014
Interior Rendering
This multi-family housing project was my first high-scale housing work, it is located in the Altos de Jalisco area in the city of Maracaibo. The project consisted of creating a solution for the consistent flooding of houses due to the varied topography of the terrain and its proximity to Lake Maracaibo. As a macro project, it is proposed to create a financial center in the area and transform the existing endangered homes into social housing solutions in height. For me it was important to pay attention to the buildings facades and overall interconnectivity, because even though it was social housing, the project had the potential of transforming the area into a new urban district full of growth opportunities. For the design of the buildings, it was essential to take into account the direction of the sun to use natural light, locating the rooms and bedrooms in a parallel to the direction of the sun. In the social areas, large windows with UV protection were placed and the finishes were in white and wood to maintain a fresh and avant-garde design.

COORDENADAS FIVE STAR HOTEL Place: Maracaibo, Venezuela Architect: Camilo Martens Architecture Semester: 6 Semester Date: 2015
This assignment focused on largescale services. I decided to design a five star hotel, which I considered necessary in the city since there is a high demand for these services. The land that was provided to us has a complicated topography and we had to consider it into the design to use spaces efficiently. My design concept was based on the coordinates of the city and its different views, because it was important that each room had a view of important highlights throughout the city. The Hotel included conference and event rooms, common areas, shops, restaurants, a gym and a spa. All these services are as well open to the public independent from the hotel to maximize the profitability of these spaces. The room configuration of the hotel would be: executive, double and triple rooms, suites and a presidential suite. In regard to the urban setting, a green bridge is proposed to connect a square on top of a hill located behind the hotel with the central park of the city, creating an ecological link and an additional green area to the city.

In the central area of the buildin there is a large public terrace where guests can appreciate views of Lake Maracaibo, its surroundings and the emblematic bridge over the lake. A visual effect is created by the terrace to appear as if the upper part of the building were floating. The terrace is made possible by a central structural system, consisting of a central reinforced concrete module and metal arms.
