By having an extremely open concept for this project, no definite boundaries would be set.

By having multiple openings throughout, the projects would be illuminated by natural sunlight 80% of the day.

The concept of having this project high on the mountain is to have clear breathtaking views of the town at the base of the mountain

The opening allows a fluent fresh air enter to the project. Th is project w ill provide th is ru ral tow n w ith a commu n ity developmen t cen ter w h ere people of th is tow n are w elc ome to work an d develop plan s for th eir ow n commu n ity.

By having sunlight illuminating the project the majority of the day it will ultimately reduce the cost of electricity. 53

This zone main’s way of connectivity is through waterways. We worked on improving and providing more alternatives to this area and all surrounding areas as well. 88

We wanted to address as many issues as possible as we worked in our project. We also wanted to address the issue of abandon land due to the insecurity in the town and all surrounding areas. We brought in more commercial spaces to this area to increase tourism, thus utilizing the land to its fullest and proving an increase of profit to the the town.

Through multiple analyses and diagnoses we pinned point the major issues of this community. Along with instructors we discussed the issues we encountered during our visits and the cause of them. It became obvious that the lack of economic solutions in this town is a direct contributor to the connectivity issues in this town. 89

After diligent research on steel I know understand the process of how steel is made and its components. This project gave me a broader understanding on how important steel really is and why this material is one of the most common used materials when it comes to structures. After studying the steel making process it was clear that this material is a not something that can be easily assemble as its components come from all over. For example the Harmonica 57 project where steel is used through the entire structure, the steel used in this project all of its components came from different parts of Brazil.

D E B AT E :

The nature of the designer’s role is multifaceted, however, the role is not to expand his or her efforts into other fields, rather, it is to seek out specialized service in order to assemble a team to achieve a common goal in other words, staying relevant.

The BAC is well known for the programs that it offers in the field of architecture, landscape, interior design and design studies. This provides students with different areas of specialization to come together and work cohesively in order to articulate a concept that can be assimilated into a larger design.

40

Mass Design values and respects the relevance and contributions of each design field due to their very diverse team. By having diverse training in their respected fields, consistently collaborates with other disciplines to solve problems that are too complex to be solved by one discipline. Their process increases the number of contributors, they are less resistant to changing a design, and lastly they foster trust with their colleges who are in other disciplines. This results in effective communication and the ability to rely on a core team to contribute to a most successful design.

The term relevance is defined as being important to the matter at hand, in terms of design, alongside the need, relevance also takes on Time and Place. When taking on more tasks, a designer’s relevance is then split into the fields in which the tasks rest on. In order designers to be most relevant, they need to stay specific to their craft and allow the rest of the design team to contribute in the same way. The approach of our group was similar to that of a relevant design team.  We broke off into specialized groups, were able to thoroughly investigate our concepts, and assemble them in into a coherent argument. This allowed for each group to bring their own relevant research and collaboratively join them for an even more relevant solution. 41
