The valve island Series Y is based on particular solutions regarding both the pneumatic, as well as the electronic part. Some of the characteristics are: - Full integration of sub-base and a number of valve bodies that together represent a “module�, (2, 4 or 8 valve positions). - Each valve position is configured individually through a number of kits containing cartridges and spools that reproduce the desired valve function - Possibility to modify or replace valves without disassembling the valve island - Easy to expand - Reduced dimensions of 12.5 mm for each valve position - High flow rate 800 Nl/min. - Possibility to connect electric input modules, bracket for Fieldbus version

Construction specifications The valve island Series Y consists of: - a module incorporating both the sub-base and seats of the valves. - two terminal plates on which it is possible to connect the inlet and exhaust - cartridges with their respective spools which reproduce the different valve functions - one cover with integrated electronics distributing signals to the pilot valves* * the version with individual connection does not have a cover. The module: is available in 3 sizes, with either 2, 4 or 8 valve positions. It is possible to join the different modules together increasing the number of valve positions. To connect the modules, specifically designed pins are used together with fixing screws. Between the modules a special shaped seal is inserted. The module has two inlets 1 and 11 while the exhaust channel (3&5) are common. The two inlets 1 and 11 can have different pressures if desired. 1 3/5

It is possible, by using a special shaped diaphragm seal, to separate the inlet channels 1 and 11 allowing different inlet pressures. By adding an intermediate plate for supplementary inlets and exhaust between the modules it is possible to either increase the amount of inlet and exhaust air to/from the valve island or create different pressure zones as showed in the figure below. It is also possible to feed a module with supply pressure from port 2 and 4 by inserting a cartridge (Mod. W) on one valve position. In this case it is necessary to use a diaphragm seal with channel 3/5 open (Mod. U).

For those applications where the air quality is unknown, it is advised to supply the whole island or the pilot valve zone with compressed air at a filtering degree of 0,1µ. In this case, the terminal plates with separate pilot supply 12/14 should be used connecting the pilot ports with a pressure from 3 to 7 bar.

The electrical connection is realised by means of single connectors directly on each individual pilot valve. The modules from which the valve island is composed can be of 2, 4 or 8 valve positions. The supply channels 1/11 and exhaust channels 3/5 can be through/open with seal type P, closed with seal type T or closed on the channels 1/11 and through/open on the channels 3/5 with seal type U. This solution has no limit to the number of valve positions, even if it is advisable to insert an intermediate plate for supplementary inlets and exhaust (type X) after every 8 positions. The manual override and the signalling LED are located on the pilot valves.

Both the multipole and the Fieldbus versions use covers for the pilot valves, this guarantees a protection class of IP 65.

Integrated in the covers are: - The manual override. This has both a monostable and bistable function. In order to obtain a bistable function of the manual override a special key shaped tool is used. The manual override is left in an activated position by pressing down and turning the key clockwise 90째. For safety reasons, it is not possible to remove the key while left in an activated position. - the signalling LEDs of the solenoid valves - the diagnostic LEDs (only Fieldbus version) - the sockets for the electrical connectors - the printed circuit boards - the connection interface with the pilot valves The connections are incorportated in the printed circuit board. All outlets are protected against overvoltage, reversed polarity and shortcircuit.
Multipole connection

The Multipole version is available in two sizes, with 4 or 8 valve positions. These can be freely equipped with either monostable or bistable valves. It is possible to join two or more valve islands simply by removing one terminal plate from each valve island and replacing them with one intermediate plate for supplementary inlets and exhaust Mod.X Mulitpole connection M The valve island can be composed of 2, 4 or 8 valve positions. The supply channels 1/11 and exhaust channels 3/5 can be through/open with seal type P, closed with seal type T or closed on the channels 1/11 and through/open on the channels 3/5 with seal type U.

In the Fieldbus version, special functions have been added: Each initial module can accomodate up to 32 coils and 48 inlets. In order to optimize the coupling between the number of solenoid valves and the number of electrical signals, an electrical circuit has been introduced which verifies both the presence and the state of the coils. The real advantage of this system is the fact it does not blindly allocate 2 signals per valve position, but is in fact capable of counting the number and detecting the position of present pilot valves, thereby allocating the exact number of signals necessary for each valve position, (depending on whether a monostable or bistable valve is occupying the valve position). The 32 coils are distributed to “n� number of valve islands where only the initial module has this integrated intelligence. The following modules are defined as expansion modules. The communication between the various modules is executed by an internal fieldbus.

The maximum number of expansion modules which can be connected to an initial module depens on the number of outlets still available. 32 (maximum number of coils), minus the number of coils used in the initial module = X Example: If the initial module consists of:

The initial module always has 8 positions. It is only the initial module to which the Fieldbus, (Profibus DP and other protocols) and electrical supply (24V DC) is connected. Each initial module can accomodate up to 32 coils distributed between the initial and the expansion modules. It recognizes the position of the coils automatically assigning them an address, following a certain sequence.

The coils can be distributed freely according to the following expansion modules. Advantages Reduction of the number of initial modules while increasing the number of expansion modules resulting in a cost reduction. When ordering, it is not necessary to define any type of subbase for bistable or monostable solenoid valves. The unused valve positions do not consue any electrical signals. The diaphragm seals are used for creating different pressure zones, neither occupies any valve position, nor wastes any electrical signal. Due to the modular structure, several islands can be joined together, reducing the overall dimensions and the number of connections resulting in reduced installation costs.
Electrical digital input module ME-1600 DL The Digital Input Module allows for connection of 16 electrical input signals via 8M12 industry standard connections. The M12 connections are a 5 pole (4+PE) version with 2 input signals per connector position. The input module can be positioned at any point of the fieldbus. A maximum of 3 input modules can be connected to the initial module, for a total of 48 inputs.
