The evening is capped off by a gigantic fireworks display by the Pleasant Hill Fire Department. July 12-13: 45th annual Pike County Pig Days on the Courthouse lawn – Celebrating Pike County’s agricultural industry. Sponsored by the Pittsfield Lion’s Club, the event will feature a cookoff, the crowning of Little Miss

Piglet, entertainment, games and rides for the kids. Bargains at the merchant’s street sales. July 17-20: Pike County Fair in Pleasant Hill. All the excitement you’d expect in a county fair! Always held mid-July, the fair has carnival rides in the midway, horse shows and the Miss Pike County and Junior Miss Pike County and Little Mr. and Miss contests. A demolition derby attracts contestants and spectators from hundreds of miles away. A must for those wanting big fun in a small town. July 27: Barry Firemen Chicken Fry. A fried chicken dinner/supper by the Barry Fire Department. The event is a fundraiser for the Barry Fire Department and features great chicken, homemade desserts and great atmosphere. AUGUST Aug. 1-3: 15th annual Two Rivers Jeep Club 4x4 Blast. Headquarters is at the Pittsfield American Legion. Sponsored by the Two Rivers Jeep Club, this fun-filled event is for four-wheel drive enthusiasts. Aug. 10: Baylis High Point Glory Days Festival, chicken and fish dinner, parade, baby contests. Aug. 16-17: Hull Town Picnic: Mid-August brings food and a good time to the Hull area. Area gardeners and craftsmen display their produce and wares. A great hometown picnic you won’t want to miss! Aug. 17: Nebo Vin Fiz Celebration – Celebrate the landing of the first airplane to fly coast to coast, the Vin Fiz, in Nebo and enjoy pageants, entertainment, food and a parade! Aug. 17: “Hull of a Race” sponsored by the Mark Twain Parkinsons Group and held in Hull during the town picnic. 8 a.m. start. Register online at www.hullofarace. com or call 217-432-5262. Aug. 22: 99th annual Chambersburg Chicken Dinner at Chambersburg Christian Church. Aug. 23-24: Perry Pioneer Days: Always the fourth weekend of August, Perry Pioneer Days

Little Mr. and Miss contests, Junior Miss Perry contest, parade, games and concessions. A community church service Sunday morning concludes the celebration. Perry townwide yard sales will also be Friday and Saturday starting at 8 a.m. Aug. 29-31: Pittsfield Fall Festival: Local organizations man the booths and local beauties fill the stage for the pageants. Saturday is the grand parade and Sunday is the cruise night. Lots of food and entertainment for everyone! SEPTEMBER Sept. 6-8: New Canton Harvest Festival. Musical entertainment, queen pageants, games, good food and old-fashioned hospitality highlight this annual event. Sept. 20-22: Griggsville Apple Festival - Queen contests, games, entertainment and the Magnificent Mile parade windings its way through town, makes the celebration of the apple industry something to remember. Sept. 27-28: Milton Corn Carnival – Famous for its pork sandwiches and friendliness, the Milton Corn Carnival offers that and a lot more. Entertainment, a bevy of beauties, lip sync, carnival rides, crafts, a parade and an old-fashioned good time. OCTOBER Oct. 3-6: Barry Apple Festival - All you’d want from a hometown celebration and more. The crowning of the Queen, Little Miss Apple Blossom, Little Master Apple Jack, start off the affair. Entertainment is on the stage throughout the weekend. Apples anyway you like them – pies, fritters, fresh dumplings are available. Sunday a chicken dinner gets everyone in the mood for one of the best car shows in the area. Oct. 19-20: Pike County Fall Color Drive – A countywide display of Pike County’s talents and (Continued on page 7)
