Soldier surprises cousin Trae Luca had no idea his cousin, Tanner King, was home on leave from the U.S. Army. King surprised Luca Monday morning at the Veteran’s Day breakfast at the Carrollton Grade School.
It is a requirement of the Open Meetings Act that public meetings be posted at least 48 hours in advance. The Nov. 6 meeting was posted on time, but had the wrong date. The date on the meeting was Nov. 14, which is the date of the Carrollton City Council meeting. JRB Chairman Mark Halwachs, who is also the Carrollton School Superintendent, opted to cancel the meeting and reset it for Friday rather than risk the chance of conducting an illegal meeting. JRB members in attendance included Halwach, representing the school; Jim Banghart, representing the fire district; Diane Hendricks, representing the Township; Andrea Schnelten, representing the County; Mayor Joe Montanez, representing the City; and Donna Nonneman, who was elected as Member at Large to represent the citizens of Carrollton. The first JRB meeting was held on Oct. 17. At this time, the JRB, by a 3-1 vote, voted not to approve of the proposed TIF district. Nonneman has made a request of the TIF to remove her residential property from the district. There were numerous comments made from the public. The first to speak was Clara Hamel. Hamel and her husband, Justin, own Hamel Chiropractic on the Square and are both members of the Carrollton Square Initiative (CSI). (See, TIF, A2)
