WINCHESTER VFW/AMERICAN LEGION MEMORIAL DAY SERVICE

This year’s Memorial Day Service had to be done a little bit differently but there were still those who ventured out to show respect to our nation’s veterans. Left to right: Andrew Massey, Gene Henson, Matt Barber, Scott Mason, Larry Evans, John Grey, Sam Ford, Darrell Day, Herbie Hart and Chuck Roberts.

Possible change in Winchester Square events By CARMEN ENSINGER Scott County Times Winchester’s semi-long standing tradition of having the Farmer’s Market and Music in the Park afterword on Thursdays evenings, could be changed this year. “The two events have been linked in the past – the Farmer’s Market has always started on Thursday at 4 p.m. and gone till 7 p.m. Chairman John Paul Coonrod said. “Music in the park has always started around 7 p.m. and gone till 9 p.m. But the two events are going to be running at a big of different schedule this year. “The way I see it, there is no reason why the Farmer’s Market can’t be opened right now, Coonrod said. “Althought this early in the season there have only been one or two vendors able to show up and sell their wares just because most people’s backyard garden aren’t producing much yet. Coonrod said the more regular vendors for this yearly in the season didn’t think they could commit to it yet this year. “If anyone is interested in coming to the Farmer’s Market to sell some homegrown produce just feel free, Coonrod said. “They can call me at my law office or they can just show

up and since my law office window overlooks the park I will see them and come down and tell them what the rules are. While there aren’t really a lot of rules to adhere to for the selling of produce, there are a few rules regarding the sale of baked goods or things other than produce and Coonrod asks if they could give him a call prior to show up so he can discuss the rules with them. However Music in the Park will be different this year. “Stuart Smith and I have met and discussed things and Music In the Park will be a little bit more difficult to have this year if only because if we have an order in place that limits gatherings to 50 people that means we probably can’t do Music in the Park this year, Coonrod said. “We know we will exceed 50 people and whatever our opinions are on the Governer’s Music in the Park, as an event, is going to do its best to comply with the law. But if these restrictions are limited then everything is a go. “If he lifts that number to 100 or 150 then we certainly plan to do it, Coonrod said. “We already have bands booked through July and into the first or second week of August, although all of those bookings will be subject to Executive Orders.

National Guard returns to base By BETH ZUMWALT Scott County Times With a revised crest of the Illinois River, Scott County Emergency Director Justin Daws, said the National Guard that arrived in Scott County over the weekend have been dismissed.

“The river was to crest Tuesday at 23 feet, Daws said “We can handle 23 feet. Daws said he requested the National Guard’s presence because, due to the COVID-19 epidemic, workers from the Illinois Department of Corrections were not going to be available.
