COMING UP THURSDAY 20 AUGUST  Championship Golf Day  Official Opening of MLE Building 9:30am

Official Opening of the Modern Learning Environment (MLE) Building The Prime Minister, Rt Hon John Key, will officially open the new MLE Building on Thursday 20 August 2015. Parents and caregivers of Campbells Bay School are invited to attend the ceremony. ARRANGEMENTS

TUESDAY 25 AUGUST  Hearing and Vision Technicians at school  Year 5 and 6 Cross Country 11:00am 

WELCOME Danielle Irvine

Weather permitting, the ceremony will take place outside the building with all CBS students on the rubber matting on the senior adventure playground. Parents and caregivers are asked to stand on the bank above the playground. Should the weather mean we cannot have an outdoor ceremony students in years four, five and six will be seated inside the MLE building on the ground floor with parents and caregivers invited to stand in this area behind the students and outside (depending on numbers of parents/caregivers attending). If the ceremony is held inside other CBS students will not be able to attend. Naturally, we are hoping for an outside ceremony!

For catering purposes we need to have an accurate count on the number of parents and caregivers of the school who will be attending the official opening.

Kia Ora CBS Whanau - A message from Year 5O Please help CBS win $5,000 worth of technology. We have uploaded videos to the ‘Top Of The Class, My Teacher Moment’ competition. We have worked really hard on these videos, because $5,000 worth of technology would make such a big difference to ALL of our learning. Click on http://blog.topoftheclass.ac.nz/my-teacher-moment/ or google these words: ‘Top of the class my teacher moment’ to watch our videos. Please VOTE for our videos and ask your friends and families to also VOTE for us! The video with the most VOTES will win $5,000’s worth of technology for their school. Please keep voting, so that CBS can win the BIG PRIZE! Please make sure you are only voting for the Campbells Bay School photos and videos! Remember we could be the ones who win the $5,000 worth of technology, but we NEED YOUR VOTES! Thank you from the Year 5O students - Written by Jaelynn Kim

Absences With our increasing school roll and given the time of the year when there is a lot of sickness and it is nice to take a family break away, can we please remind you to advise the school office if your child is going to be absent? Even if you have advised your child’s teacher it is important to also let the school office know for safety reasons as they will be updating the school’s absence register. If your child is going to be late ie: at a doctor’s appointment or away sick, please call or email before 9:00am. Please do not send your child to school if they are unwell. You can either email safetycheck@campbellsbay.school.nz or phone our 24/7 absence line on 410 9551. Please email or call for each day your child is sick. It is a Ministry of Education requirement if your child is going to be away on holiday for more than a day that you request permission from the principal. You can either email your request to admin@campbellsbay.school.nz or pick up a form from the school office.

Mathathon Reminder You have until this Friday 21 August to have brought into school sponsorship money in order to be in to win the top three class awards; a mufti day for those lucky three classes only! We are a long way off our $20,000 target! Let’s get collecting CBS to update our IT resources!!! And remember if we reach target, Mr McGowan will dress up in a costume students select. You can choose between Monsters Inc. and Spider Man, but we must achieve $20,000. (See page 5 for results).

Forest Thanks Despite being wet under foot, there was a lot of good weeding achieved in the forest last week. We are certainly making inroads in to the weed eradication, and with Spring just around the corner, it was important to remove as many as we could. Thank you to the many teachers who brought their classes down and to the willing helpers, who make a real difference. Weeding next term to finish off the year should be easier. Thanks Jenny Hunter

School Uniform Reminder Please ensure your children arrive at school each day in the correct school uniform. There have been some variations when it comes to the wearing of appropriately coloured socks (navy blue) and shoes (black or navy blue). There have also been some children wearing no CBS polar fleeces. Please ensure your children wear the prescribed CBS uniform. We will be commencing school uniform checks this week. Should you have any problems fitting out your child in the uniform please do contact me so we can discuss this.

vs Once again, donations can be given online http://www.givealittle.co.nz/org/CBS or by cash. Remember to record those donations onto your named sponsorship forms as proof of your personal fundraising for the class awards.

John McGowan

Sports News Weekly sports results can be found on the following link: https://sites.google.com/a/cbsprimary.org/campbellsbayschool/sport/sports-results Would all managers of sports teams please email weekly news and results to Nicola Livingston: nicolal@campbellsbay.school.nz RUGBY

The final day of the Primary Schools’ Rugby Tournament Round 3 at Windsor Park was held last Tuesday. Well done everyone! Great effort from our Year 4 mixed team - a win in all of the nine games played! Thanks to team coaches and managers for all your time and effort! Results are available to download from our our school google website under “Sports” and under “Rugby”. Match reports for each team will also be posted here. TOUCH RUGBY

Registrations for Touch Rugby in Term 4 will be closing this FRIDAY (21 August). There are two options for registering: (OPTION 1) as a team (as arranged by parents/children) or (OPTION 2) as an individual (to be placed into a team by the school). A team coach and manager will be needed for every team. Please download the information letter from the school google website under “Sports” and under “Touch Rugby” if you require extra information. At this stage we need more girls to register under OPTION 2 for our Year 0 to Year 4 mixed boy/girl teams. Touch rugby is a fast, fun, non-contact game for both boys and girls. Players do not tackle each other as in traditional rugby. Girls playing in mixed teams play with at least three other girls on the field at any one time. If interested please consider registering your daughter to play for a CBS team for Term 4. SOCCER

Our lunchtime soccer session for Year 4/5 students was cancelled on Friday last week due to the heavy rain. Another session is proposed over the coming days. Please ask your child to listen out to the daily school notices as to when this will now take place. GOLF

Good luck to all CBS Golfers who are participating in the Championship Golf Day this Thursday at Huapai Golf Club (Riverhead). Any queries please contact Nicola Livingston (CBS Sports Coordinator) at nicolal@campbellsbay.school.nz

ICE SKATE TOUR A GREAT SUCCESS AT CBS! Thank you to the families who supported the pop up Ice Rink in our hall over this weekend. We had a total of 1,021 skaters from Thursday to Sunday which is a record weekend for skating! This equates to $1456 commission for the school, and with the profit from the BBQ on Thursday the total raised was $1966. Thank you to the parents who helped set up the rink and take it down, and helped with the catering and drinks on Thursday at the family fun afternoon. We received a lot of positive feedback from children who had a wonderful time and great to see lots of parents skating too! If you enjoyed the ice rink and want to skate again, you can find details of their bookings on Event finder. They will be around the corner at Sunnynook Primary from this Wednesday to Sunday.

Care Share Wear – 2015 Thanks for your generosity over the last three years to this project. Each year CBS volunteers collect unwanted clothing and blankets from CBS families and distribute these to families in need in other schools. We are still collecting clean used clothes (babies to teenagers) for distribution to children in Auckland needing clothes. Please bring them to the office by Tuesday 25 August. We will also take clothing for families.

Huge Thanks Thanks to Hayley Fraser-Mackenzie and her team for the outstanding job they did with the skating from Thursday - Sunday. It was an outstanding community event. John McGowan
