CBS tiqbiz App Over 400 people have already downloaded the CBS tiqbiz App. This is great as it will increase home and school communication and it will be an indispensable addition to our emergency communication system.

Not Self But Service – Canteen

All people who downloaded the CBS tiqbiz App by 3.00pm last Friday 19 September went into the draw to win a $100 restaurant dining voucher.

Kia Ora CBS Whanau

Congratulations to Shane Butler, father of Rebekah Butler in room six who has won a dining voucher at Al Forno in Takapuna.

What a ka mau te wehi (fantastic) response we’ve had to the Canteen Bandana fundraiser! The bandanas are selling like hotcakes! Thank you CBS for showing the Not Self, But Service spirit. The bandana-bandits will still be selling bandanas in week 10, so please bring your $5 and join the wave of red sweeping across our kura (school).

Not Self But Service - Operation Christmas Child The next opportunity for students to help others in need is called Operation Christmas Child. This is run by an organisation called Samaritans Purse. You can find more information at their website: https://www.samaritanspurse.org.au/operation-christmas-child/. The idea is that we fill a box (about a shoe box size) with gifts that a less fortunate child will enjoy for Christmas. Each class will link their boxes to a specific age group and will set about filling the box with small gifts (new). Gifts can include - clothing, soft toys, bangles, handbags, necklaces, something for school - pencils, pens, erasers; toys - skipping ropes, yo-yo, finger puppets; something for hygiene - soap, face wash, toothbrush, moisturizer, hair clips etc. Please note that the following items cannot be included - things that melt or may leak, food of any kind, used or damaged items, anything breakable, toy weapons, toy money or anything related to gambling.

Thought of the Day…. It might be good if South Africans do not introduce the game of cricket to Japan.

Each class will do one box for a boy and one for a girl. If you are unable to donate items then perhaps you can donate a few coins to help pay for the postage of the boxes (each box costs $9 to cover postage). We are hoping to do at least 150 boxes. There are some spare boxes available if your family would like to complete one themselves. Thank you for your on-going support in helping others in times of need. Any questions please contact Julie Bose (julieb@campbellsbayschool.nz).

Tournament of Minds (TOM) From our intrepid reporter from a very chilly Wellington, Wendy Rea-Rankin. The kids were absolutely amazing but did not place. Their overall performance skill was superb and they were fantastic at putting their two chosen presentation techniques to work in their performance – which very few other teams did well at all. They were clear, well paced, used their props really well including climbing up to elevate themselves, had a really clear story that they told - which they also memorized. They did not require notes which most of the other teams did. So top notch on that front. Overall we are all so proud of them. They really did an amazing job in a challenging situation and coped really fantastically. Thanks to all those who supported out TOM team at the nationals in Wellington over the weekend.
