The children had a wonderful time participating in their Skip-a-thon. Many children had practised their skipping and got to show their skipping skills during the Skip-a-thon. It is now time for the children to collect their sponsorship money and bring it to school in the Jump Rope for Heart fundraising envelope. If you haven’t got the envelope, any envelope will do. Thank you for supporting this fundraising event. Mrs Stott and Room 21 - Jump Rope for Heart organisers

Chess Club, Term Four Weekly chess classes have resumed for term four on Tuesday lunchtimes in room 29. All levels catered for except absolute beginners. FOCBS LADIES MOVIE NIGHT 22 OCTOBER

Thanks to all the ladies (and Mr McGowan - we believe he was in his element in a room full of women!), who supported the FOCB fundraiser movie night on Thursday. The movie was great (recommended for those who were not fast enough to secure a ticket). Special thanks to Bronwyn Johnson for making it happen, and to our local businesses for donating the spot prizes.

In term four students will sit official NZCF tests with those passing earning badges and certificates. If your child would like to enrol please collect a form from the school office and return with the term fee of $50.00. Any questions please contact Leonard McLaren on mclaren@actrix.co.nz stating ‘CBS’ in the subject line.

Found School Fleeces We have the following fleeces in the school office with the following names: S Carter size 10 Jayden Scott size 10 Jamie size 8

If you still need to pay for your tickets please do so now so we can finalise the event. We estimate a profit of $800 for the school which is a great result, and these profits will go towards authors for Book Week. FOCBS. Further to the comments from FOCBS, I can recommend The Dressmaker as an entertaining black comedy/drama for both genders! Thanks to FOCBS for organising this event that provided an opportunity for our community to get together. John McGowan.

These children have left the school so possibly these fleeces have been purchased second hand. If they belong to your child please collect from the office ASAP!

Book Fair Dates

CALLING ALL OLD MOBILE PHONES

It’s that time again to rummage around in your drawers and toy boxes and bring into School/Kindergarten/ Creche/Playcentre any unwanted mobile phones you may have at home. It is estimated that each year up to three million phones become obsolete in NZ. Of those only 2% are recycled. Phones collected help our School/Kindergarten/Creche/Playcentre gain valuable rewards and the environment benefits as well keeping our landfills free of mobile phones and their array of hazardous toxic substances. Please drop any unwanted mobile phones you may have in the collection box in the reception area at School /Kindergarten/Creche/Playcentre.

Dates for your diary! Our Campbells Bay school book week and book fair will be held from Monday 30 November to Friday 4 December. Watch out for more information coming soon.

Service Quality Survey (Parents): Results of the Follow-up Survey Results and analysis from the August survey were shared with our community via a newsletter last term. Following analysis of the survey a further, more specific, survey was conducted to find out more about what parents thought about two domains in the original survey, namely: Reporting to parents of their child’s progress; and how the school can improve in terms of meeting individual needs of their child. The results of this latter survey form an attachment to this report. The leadership team is now analysing the data from this electronic survey to determine areas the school can improve upon. Hence, you can expect further information on plans we have to improve the school’s performance in these two domains. Please watch for this information in upcoming newsletters. To view the data collected from the follow-up survey please refer to the attachment to this newsletter. In summary, the feedback from the follow-up survey to the two domains (as listed above) was generally very affirming but, of course, with room for improvement. Examples: 96.5% ‘felt comfortable and able to contact my child’s teacher about my child for a meeting should I wish to have such a meeting.’ The December written report was found to be ‘very helpful’ by 94.9% of respondents while 89.0% found the ‘next steps form the parent/caregiver interviews are based on to be helpful.’ All very pleasing. Warranting further investigation were the realms of ‘being aware of school programmes that assist specific learning needs’ with 70.9% of respondents agreeing they were aware while only 61.9% agreed the ‘next steps interviews are about the right length: 12 minutes.’ We have a number of work ons and we share our thoughts once we have thoroughly canvassed.

Student Success Ryan Johnson won a silver medal at the National Karate championships last weekend. It was a very proud moment for his parents and they would like to thank the school and Duncan Millward who suggested they get Ryan in to Karate as a good way to learn focus.

Ticket Purchases for APPA Choir Festival Tickets for our big night are still available from Ticketmaster - just enter ‘Town Hall’ in the search engine and the event will come up. We look forward to seeing you all there on Wednesday 18 November - it’s going to be an awesome evening!! Jenny Watt
