Year Five and Six Cross Country COMING UP TUE 8 SEPTEMBER  Dental Nurses at CBS  Interschool Cross Country (selected students) WED 9 SEPTEMBER  Dental Nurses at CBS THU 10 SEPTEMBER  Dental Nurses at CBS  Save Day for Interschool Cross Country

Campbells Bay Year Five and Six students took to the field to kick off the 2015 Cross Country school event on Thursday 27 August. After weeks of training, students were well prepared to run the gruelling and notorious demanding course. As students are now aware, cross-country races are not to be run at the same speed as track. We witnessed students this year, altering their style and running closer to their maximum ability. Cross-country running requires a different stride length, a different leg action and a different foot plant from road and track events. Congratulations - these factors were gradually introduced and implemented effectively during training. Well done! Thanks you to our CBS parents and staff for making this year’s event successful and we look forward to our top five placings who will go on to compete in the inter school competition tomorrow.

Takapuna Normal Intermediate School Enrolments for 2016 We would like to remind parents that our In Zone and Out of Zone enrolments close Friday 11 September. Currently with In Zone enrolments we estimate places for 70 Out of Zone students to start the 2016 school year. Thanks, TNIS.

Not Self but Service This year we have really made it a focus for staff and students to be more aware of our school motto and how we can put it into practice in the real world. We’ve had great success with students and staff bringing forward ideas to raise awareness and money for many in need around us and around the world. We would, however, like to also make you aware that as a family we understand that you can’t support all of the initiatives we bring to you. We ask that you discuss as a family what you want to support and that is what you donate your time or money towards. We will have several more initiatives coming up between now and the end of the year. Please support the ones you feel are right for you and your family.

Daffodil Day Well done everyone at CBS!! After a fantastic effort of raising awareness for Daffodil Day we managed to raise $1833.60. This money is given to the Cancer Society and is used to provide patient and family support, fund scientific research into cancer, and to run health promotion programmes to reduce the risk of cancer. So a huge thank you for contributing to this incredible organisation!!

Monday 7 September - end of term - filling boxes for Operation Christmas child Last few days of term (23/24/25 September) - selling canteen bandannas. 23 October - Jump Rope for Heart

Please bear with us and, if you possibly can, complete the online survey as your thoughts do count. Thanks.

Immune boosting sandwich ideas (source: ezlunch.co.nz enews) Whether you’re choosing sandwiches [or pitas/subs] from our menu, or making your own at home, Fuelled4Life have some great suggestions to make the lunchtime sandwich a nutritional winner. Here’s some top tips: Breads with seeds and wholegrains are a great start, but if your children don’t like ‘bits’, try wholemeal or one of the many ‘hidden grains’ options. Choose a source of good protein for the filling, such as chicken, roast beef, canned fish, egg or edam cheese. Many deli meats, such as sausages, salami and some ham, are high in fat and sodium, so should be occasional treats only. Add a vegetable or two like lettuce, grated carrot, tomato, cucumber, or beetroot. Some kids prefer plain sandwiches, or complain that veges make their sandwiches soggy. In that case, you can include these for eating separately, such as vegetable sticks, or tiny tomatoes. For spreads, choose hummus, peanut butter, cottage cheese or avocado. Yeast spread and chocolate spread are high in sodium or sugar, so better to avoid having these every day. Ideally a balanced lunch should contain the four food groups - vegetables and fruit, bread and cereals, milk and milk products and lean meat and alternatives. Our thanks to Fuelled4life for putting together this article for us. To find out more useful ideas from Fuelled4Life visit their site here Source: www.ezlunch.co.nz enews, August 2015
