DEATH OF FORMER CBS BOARD MEMBER Bob Davie, a member of the Board of Trustees from 1995 – 2001 died at the weekend after a long illness. Bob was a real contributor to our school with his insight, wisdom and dry humour leaving the school all the better for his involvement. Among his many contributions to the school Bob was very involved in the extension and refurbishment of the school hall in 2000/2001. We extend our condolences to Bob’s wife, Debbie, and his two daughters Emma and Laura. Details of the service for Bob have not yet been published.
Carless Day Challenge Wednesday 11 November On Wednesday 11 November Room 9 are challenging CBS families to avoid using their cars to drop children in the bus bay. It is a Carless Day Challenge! It is a Travelwise challenge! It will be ‘Wacky Wednesday’! We want to give Mr McGowan a day off! If you have to deliver the children to school by car then please drop them off safely in Aberdeen Road, Beach Road or East Coast Road. Can we eliminate cars from the bus bay? Yes we can! You can’t be in the draw for ‘Wacky Wednesday’ prizes if you are spotted getting out of the car in the bus bay. Be Travelwise! For the sake of safety we ask that you inform us ahead of time if your child is not going to be at school. Carless Day Challenge More than 174 cars were counted in the bus bay on Thursday morning by students from Rm 9. CBS it was a lovely sunny morning! You can do better! Start practicing great Travelwise habits now. It is a Carless Day challenge and Wacky Wednesday on November 11. Please ‘drop and walk’, bike, scooter, skate, bus, walk or use the Walking School Bus. Max the Pukeko is returning to CBS! Max the Pukeko will be outside CBS during the next two weeks to promote Travelwise. Remember Wacky Wednesday, Wednesday 11 November. Challenge: CBS Max the Pukeko and Room 9 challenges you to a carless day on Wednesday 11 November. No cars in the bus bay on Wednesday 11 November. Start practising now. On Wednesday 11 November, there will be a Wacky Wednesday held at CBS. Our goal is to be Travelwise and wacky!!! You can decorate your clothes, shoes, scooters and bikes etc. You will have to wear your uniform underneath. Room 9 challenges CBS families to aim for a ‘Car Less’ day on Wednesday 11 November. Parents if you have to transport your children to CBS the idea is you drop students in a safe place in Aberdeen Rd, Beach Road or East Coast Rd. You could practice this before the big day! We are aiming to give Mr McGowan a rest from the ‘stop, drop and go’ regime in the bus bay. Remember to be Travelwise and reduce car congestion outside CBS! If you get dropped off in the bus bay on Wednesday 11 November you aren’t wacky! Walk, scooter, bike, bus, skate or ‘drop and walk’ to school. Use the Walking School Bus. Be Travelwise CBS! IMPORTANT: Sports/Cultural Photos Photos will be taken on Wednesday 18 November. Photos this time are for all students whose team photos did not occur last time because of a school trip (Years 5 & 6) i.e. Summer netball, summer hockey, touch, gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics, trampoline, cross country team and the swimming team. Photos will also be taken for the following: Orchestra, APPA choir, Mid Bays’ Schools choir, Mid Bays dance, Kapa Haka, Waterwise, athletics team and chess club. All students involved are to wear the school uniform and NOT the sporting uniform.

Wairau Intermediate Board of Trustees The school’s board of trustees comprises five parent elected trustees and one staff elected trustee as well as the principal. The board currently has two vacancies as a result of resignations for medical reasons. We have however co-opted a board chair to lead us through to the next election in April/May 2016. The board is seeking interested persons who would like to join the board for the remaining period of the current term. This is an opportunity for those who may wish to stand in the elections to gain some insight into how the board functions. A training and induction programme will be provided.
