Investing in Educational Success (IES) The IES programme was first mooted in early 2014 as an initiative to improve the performance of targeted students. Over the last 18 months IES has been subject to considerable debate inside the education community with the discussion spilling into the public domain from time to time. In essence, IES is about providing resources to schools to allow them to improve the quality of teaching to thoise students who are not achieving as well as they are expected to achieve. IES is based on a Community of Schools (COS) working together to achieve agreed upon student performance targets in identified subject areas. Participation in IES is voluntary. IES is at the stage where the first Community of Schools is about to commence. Following careful consideration, Campbells Bay School has become part of the Mid Bays Schools’ IES Community of Schools. This involves all schools from Campbells Bay to Browns Bay including Murrays Bay Intermediate School and Rangitoto College. Subject to further discussions between the COS and the Ministry of Education we are anticipating starting the implementation phase of COS well before the end of this year. This will include the appointment of teachers to share their expertise both within and across schools in the subjects areas of mathematics and writing; the two areas schools have identified as benefiting most from additional and targeted teaching. For the most part, students and parents will notice little outward change as much of the work of IES will be conducted in the form of specific teacher professional development and support. As IES becomes more embedded we will notify you of developments. In the meantime, if you have any questions about IES please do not hesitate to contact me: principal@campbellsbay.school.nz
