Jammies in June at CBS on Thursday 25 June! Last year our school community achieved phenomenal results. Cash and pyjamas (brand new and barely used) were donated and I know they were warmly received as the principal of the school receiving the pyjamas said the response from families in his very low decile school was humbling. Yes, I know we are often being asked to give. However, on the whole, we are a community that is in the fortunate position to be able to give. I hate the thought of children in our country begin cold, especially in bed when they need their sleep. If you can do something to help the Middlemore Foundation I am sure it will be greatly appreciated. So we can 'do our bit' and perhaps a little more, on Thursday 25 June we will be having a Pyjama Day. This involves children being encouraged to bring a new pair or a near new pair of freshly laundered flannelette pyjamas to donate to the Middlemore Foundation. A cash donation instead of a pair of pyjamas would be welcome if this suits you better. Children also have the option of wearing pyjamas to school on this day but please note, it is voluntary. You can expect to see some teachers in their 'onesies' on this day as well!
Year 5 and 6 Poem Competition Year 5 and 6 had a great poem competition on last Thursday. The senior students have been busy memorizing, making their poems interesting by using pace, tone, emphasis and speed of their voice. Ice Rink
Lock in the dates ……… from 14 August—17 August a pop up Ice Rink will be at CBS for us all to enjoy! There will be a family fun night on 14 August and possibly the 15 August too (depending on parent help available) which will double as a fund raiser for FOCB. All are welcome! We are looking for parent help to co-ordinate the sausage sizzle and if we want to buy alcohol at the event, for someone to run this (and apply for the license). We'll also need 10-12 parents to help set up the rink Wednesday 13 August and pack it away on the 17 August. The rink is available to hire for parties on Saturday 15 August between 5.00pm -8.00pm for 1 hour slots, and can handle up to 30-40 children at once. Please contact Hayley if you can help on jandhfm@gmail.com or you would like to hire the rink for a party! More detail will follow - watch out for updates in the newsletter and school Facebook page!

Morning 042 Bus Service
Not Self but Service
This service has been problematic for some time given its unreliable. Last Tuesday the service was late to school, not arriving until 8.55 am. Jane Sherard, Orewa Depot Supervisor, provided the following explanation for the late running of this service on Tuesday. (This bus starts from the Orewa Depot, hence Jane's involvement).
We are going to try to do the community Forest Clean up this Thursday 18 June 3.15pm-4.00 pm (weather permitting). All students must be accompanied by an adult. Please bring a plastic bag to collect the rubbish in, and I suggest gumboots.
"Today with the heavy fog, all our bus services that then do school trips were delayed given they do previous service trips from town or are trying to get across town. A lot of the arterial roads were also blocked around Takapuna in and out. The S042 bus had a breakdown while still in Orewa on his previous trip. We had tried to get Shore depot to cover from Glenfield, however all buses were stuck with no spare buses and drivers. While the preferred way is to run to the timetable, there are unfortunately traffic, weather, mechanical impacts which are not in the driver control.
Meet outside Room 9 at 3.15 and we will all head into the forest together.
With the history of this duty, I have already asked that the S042 be put on another duty that allows the bus to start on time and that possibly the trip actually start at 8.00 am. This is a current discussion with AT and our network design people. I will keep you updated." The late running of the 042 is being worked on. In my experience Jane is totally committed to our morning and afternoon bus services working smoothly. However, there are constraints, not the least being Auckland traffic! If you have any specific concerns about the service please contact Jane: jane.sherard@nzbus.co.nz
2 Can Toucan The Student Council is working hard on a City Mission fundraiser called the 2 Can Toucan from 15 June - 26 June. We need your help. There are hundreds of Aucklanders that are hungry and need our help and all it takes is bringing in 2 cans of food and handing them into your teacher. Aucklanders have been doing this fundraiser for many years and last year Auckland earned $20,000 worth of food and $10,000 worth of money. This fundraiser helped out many families and families are no longer starving thanks to this easy fundraiser. The winning class with the most amount of cans handed in by Friday the 26 June (end of week 10) will win a special reward - a MUFTI DAY FOR YOUR CLASS ONLY!! When you bring your cans in, in week 9 and 10, your teacher can leave them just outside your front door for our toucans to collect each morning in week 9 and 10. From your Student Council Representatives. (Written by Tyler)
