Warm Hearts - Warm Children

Coming Up Tuesday, 30 June  Swimming Yrs 5 & 6

On Thursday CBS held a fundraiser for ‘Jammies in June’. Students and staff wore an amazing selection of pajamas and onesies and brought donations of pajamas and money to school. It was a huge success and Room 3 counted 215 pairs of new pajamas! There were also a good number of pre-loved pajamas and an outstanding $1000 in cash donations!! This was a fantastic effort—thank you everyone!

“You can have any colour as long as it's black”

Attributed to Henry Ford about the Model T, this sentence applies to CBS in 2015 in the realm of footwear, with a small exception, namely, 'You can also have navy blue.' A reminder that the school uniform requires the wearing of all black or all navy blue footwear - shoes or sandals. When you are looking for footwear for your child please ensure it complies with the school's footwear requirements. Thanks. “Not Self, but Service”

Farewells As we approach the end of the term it is our sad task to farewell three members of our staff. Jennie MacPhearson first taught at CBS in 2008. In recent times Jennie has been a very valuable and integral part of our teaching programme working with a number of classes across the school. Jennie will be moving to Brunei where she will be teaching at an international school, joining Emma Kato, a teacher at CBS who moved to Brunei last year. Taryn Carr, who started at CBS in July 1999, leaves us for the fifth time! Since arriving at our school as a first year teacher Taryn has left three times on parental leave and once, prior to starting a family, to experience teaching in the UK. Taryn has made a wonderful contribution to CBS as a classroom teacher and as the director of numerous highly acclaimed school musicals. Her calm and 'can do' demenour has always been greatly appreciated along with the warmth of her personality. Taryn is moving with her teacher husband, Phil and family, to an international school in Cairo. You might have detected a trend here! The international school market has become increasingly attractive with their salary packages, the opportunity to experience living in different countries and, often, the proximity of neighbouring countries to explore. As with Jennie, our loss is another countries’ gain. It is swings and roundabouts. While Duncan Millward, deputy principal, left us in 2013 for an international school in Taiwan, we have benefited having recruited Julie Bose from an international school in Singapore while Nathan Janes was at an international school in South Korea before coming to Campbells Bay. Such is life in the increasingly global educational village. Marie Dunn, from our office team, is also leaving us this week. Marie is not going overseas, as far as I know! However, it wouldn't be surprising that she will be seeing a little more of the golf course. Marie started at Campbells Bay School in June 1994. Since that time Marie has become an invaluable member of the office team. A hallmark of Marie is her calmness and her ability to identify what needs to be done and then to do it in an unobtrusive and efficient manner. In more recent years Marie has made her mark on our international student programme. Her generous personality and family oriented outlook has been greatly valued by our international families. Marie's lunches for students and families alike on the international trips have become legendary. Fortunately, Marie will not be lost to us completely as she has offered to help with international student trips, hopefully in the lunch department. Things have changed a great deal since Marie started when the school had 400 students, an electric typewriter in the office and one computer. It is testament to Marie that she has moved with the times, keeping up with the rapid advances in technology and the increased expectations that go hand in hand with life in the 21st Century. Marie will be missed. Her last day at school will be Wednesday this week.
