Toby is a budding rugby player and got the time of his life recently when he was the ball carrier for the All Blacks v England first test in Auckland. Toby was kitted out in his very own full All Black uniform and with his Grandad and management staff of the All Blacks he was on the side line while the All Blacks warmed up before the game right up close to the action. Just before kick off he ran the ball onto the field while his name, age, school and rugby club were called out to the crowd. He gave a big wave from the field and got a huge cheer from the stands. It was special night for Toby. buzzing weeks later!

Mathlete of the Week Congratulations to Grace Hu from Room 27 for being Campbells Bay's 'Mathletics Mathlete of the Week' this week! Everyone in the school has a chance to win this title. Just use your Mathletics as often as possible in one week (Monday to Sunday), and if you earn the most points across the whole school the title will be yours!
Thank you to everyone who attended the disco last Friday night. We raised over $3,000 for the school and had a marvelous time doing so! Special thanks to all our parent helpers and teachers who made this fun night.
School Uniform : Shoes Just a reminder that the requirement is to wear appropriately coloured shoes . In keeping with the edict from Henry Ford (Senior), children can wear any colour of shoes they wish as long as they are either navy blue or black. (From memory, Mr Ford only provided one choice of colour for his cars: black
Starship Mobile Phone Appeal
Three good reasons to support this campaign: Phones collected help raise funds to keep the Starship National Air Ambulance Service flying.

Music Awards Congratulations to Catherine Chen, Georgia Crawford, Isabella Gaze, Andrew Jacobi, Grace Hu, Ryder Schikendanz, Sally Leach and Ryan Morell who have each received a Term 2 ‘Star Musican Award’ from the Music Education Centre.
For information or to enroll in individual violin, piano/keyboard, drum or guitar lessons at Campbells Bay School, contact www.musiceducation.co.nz or phone 0800 893939.
Phones collected are counted towards our schools chosen rewards from the Starship Mobile Phone Schools Campaign, i.e. cameras, sports packs, i-pads and book vouchers. This campaign helps to ensure NZ landfills are free of an array of hazardous toxic substances. In just five years the Starship Appeal has raised over $2,000,000 to keep the Starship National Air Ambulance Service flying. Schools have participated by collected unwanted mobile phones and swapping them for a wide range of rewards whilst at the same time raising funds for this worthy cause. The campaign works like this: Most of us have old mobile phones lying around at home somewhere. We ask that each family in our school come on board and put any old unwanted mobile phones in the collection box in the school office. Not only does every phone count towards our school’s preferred reward but they also help fund the Starship National Air Ambulance whilst also serving as a valuable recycling initiative.
Next Meeting
The next FOCBS meeting will be Tuesday 29 July at 7.30 pm in the school staffroom.

Annual Cluster Basketball Tournament
Chess Tournament
Last Thursday the Year 6 Breakers Basketball team played in a tournament against four other local schools. They started with great rebound work from Matt Drury, strong attacking play from Josh Christie and tight marking from Hayden Williams and won the first two games convincingly against Sunnynook and Mairangi Bay. However, it was a little tighter against St John’s but Campbells Bay still won by a hand full of points. The fourth game was against Target Road but despite relentless attacking play from Rhys Pattimore and aggressive chasing of the turnovers from Matthew Gell and Cooper Heath they lost. However they had done enough to make the semi- finals against St John’s. St John’s came out the strongest team and led at the half time break. Second half with hard work from James Houliston and some great ball skills from Hadley Murray, the boys got stuck in and we won by 6 to go into the final. In the final Target Road were strong all over the court but all the Campbells Bay boys were giving it 100% and were just behind at half time. In the second half they were right in it but it slipped away from them in the end, losing 16 - 8 to finish second on the day. Huge effort. Well played boys!
CBS had 12 players (3 teams of 4) attend the annual Primary Schools' chess tournament last week. Some children had been previously, but for others this was a very new experience. Each game had to be played using a timer which took a bit of getting used to, but they all mastered it as the day went on. Everybody played 6 rounds with a mixed bag of results. The A team started strongly with many wins, but they met their match as they progressed through the rounds coming up against stronger opposition. Well done to you all and thank you to the parents who helped with transport. Team A: John Zhang, David Heng, Andy Song and Yuchan Lee Team B: Hadley Murray, Alex Yao, Adam Bodicoat and Leo Cheng Team C: Koutaro Yumiba, Cameron Kemp, Freya Caisley and William Smith

Round 2 of the Rugby Tournament Last Tuesday saw all seven CBS rugby teams attend the postponed round 2 day of our Primary Schools Rugby Tournament. Below are comments from their coaches: CBS C (Year 3) enjoyed another unbeaten round of games. Once again, the main reasons for their success were playing as a team and some outstanding ripping on defence. They are already looking forward to the final round of games. CBS B (Year 4B) started off their tournament with a very slick performance and great team work against Long Bay which saw our first win. After much celebrating it was time to face a tough Kristin side, who were strong on defence and snuck in to win by one point. It was an awesome performance by Campbells Bay as they stuck to the game plan, supported each other and tried very hard. Our last game saw us up against our Year 3 team, while the result was a loss, I think we learned a lot from this game and hope to play them again in the next tournament for a re match!! CBS A (Year 4A) had an awesome day and showed excellent sportsmanship towards their opposition and their teammates. All players scored at least one try over the three games. Our super ripping on defence meant that we kept our opposition's scoring to a minimum. Our results were 11:1 vs Mairangi Bay, 9:1 vs Kristin B, and 8:5 vs Glamorgan. CBS 2 (Year 5 and 6B) had a fantastic day! Since the last tournament there has been an obvious improvement in defensive play, ripping and passing. The day started with two very close games (against Browns Bay 2/Torbay 2) that could have gone either way. The day ended with a very convincing win over Oteha Valley. CBS 1 (Year 5 and 6A) had an amazing day, showing fantastic team work and determination to win all their games. They played two really tough teams who put a lot of pressure on them and they were able to rise to the occasion and defeat both teams with really close scores. Also a big thank you to Izzy from the tackle rugby team who stepped up to help when we were short a player. CBS Girls had an uplifting win against Albany Girls, the only other girls’ team in the tournament. Our girls’ team also managed to score five trys per game against the rugby league male dominated teams that followed. CBS Tackle : Won 1, Lost 1, Drew 1 Overall a great tournament with CBS showing maturity, commitment and ever better skills. Well done.
North Harbour Golf Fun Days This year CBS entered three teams into the annual primary schools golf competition which was held over three days at The Peninsula Golf Club in Silverdale. Team 1 - Luke Old, Andrew Jacobi, Krishnil Chandra and Oscar James - were our more experienced golfers and some had been part of previous winning teams. They started the competition with a hiss and a roar finishing round 1 in first place, but unfortunately they weren’t able to maintain the high standard they had set themselves whilst other schools improved over the next 2 rounds. This meant Team 1 came 3rd overall which was still a credible position to finish out of 12 teams. Team 2 – Lachlan Thorne, William Marquez, Andy Lentini and Ethan Steyn – and Team 3 – Maggie Yu, Paris Chen and Olivia Kirk – were mostly children who are having golf lessons, but didn’t have much course experience. This meant the first round was a real learning experience for them and it was lovely to see them improve their scores each round thereafter. Well done to everyone and a big thank you to the parents who caddied for the children and provided transport and the input from Craig and Kerry Old in assisting with the organisation is much appreciated.
