An Evening of Winter Dreams About Camp Oochigeas Camp Oochigeas is a privately funded, volunteer based organization that provides kids with cancer and kids affected by childhood cancer with a unique opportunity for growth through challenging, fun, enriching and magical experiences. Since 1984, Camp Oochigeas has been providing children affected by childhood cancer with a means of escape from the everyday. When a family receives news of a cancer diagnosis, the world as they know it is turned upside-down. At Ooch, we believe that cancer shouldn’t come between kids and their right to a childhood. As a registered charity that receives no government funding, we depend on the generosity of donors and volunteers like you to ensure that every child diagnosed with cancer at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) has the opportunity to attend Ooch at no cost to their families. Cancer is a traumatic experience for a child. It involves being taken out of school and can include months of isolation. Fortunately there’s Ooch. So much more than a summer camp, Ooch has year-round programs for children and families affected by childhood cancer in Muskoka, at SickKids and at Ooch Downtown, our urban camp facility in Toronto. Camp Ooch lets children with cancer focus on who they are instead of what they have. It gives kids with cancer the chance to just be kids. As one camper points out, “At Camp Oochigeas, no one really pays attention to the fact that you have cancer, because everyone does.” This sense of belonging and shared experience builds their confidence and strength. The cherished friendships and memories they find at camp last a lifetime.
Event Details Taking place on Thursday November 6, 2014 at the Fairmont Royal York in Toronto, ‘An Evening of Winter Dreams’ welcomes over 700 socially-conscious urban professionals (lawyers, bankers, business professionals) in the GTA to become part of the Ooch magic. Our event celebrates the challenges our campers have overcome through inspiring testimonials shared over a pre-dinner cocktail reception, a gourmet sit down dinner and a live and silent auction. We also host our very successful ‘paddle’ auction, featuring paddles of art designed by famous artists and celebrities including Charles Pachter and Sarah McLachlan.
Impact ‘An Evening of Winter Dreams’ will raise an anticipated $600,000 in support of the winterization of Ooch Muskoka.
