EXCELLENT SERVICE. INVITING SPACES. STUDENT SUPPORT. We’re focused on making NC State a place where students, faculty, staff and visitors feel at home and have the services they need to be successful. By listening closely, we are able to translate needs into new initiatives that solve problems and enhance the university brand. We also do our part to support NC State by helping defray administrative costs and funding scholarships and student programming through our revenue generating operations. Our annual contribution averages $1.2 million, and a large portion of this funding comes from revenue generated by licensed NC State products. Not a day goes by when we aren’t making things better on the campus of NC State.

NC STATE DINING We’re committed to giving our students, staff and guests a place where they can relax, connect and fuel their minds and bodies for academic success. To that end, we have invested in our dining program on multiple fronts, renovating and expanding several locations and acquiring previously outsourced operations such as the Lonnie Poole Golf Course and Park Alumni Center. We’ve created a menu mix across campus that provides more variety than ever. Our team of certified chefs, cooks and supporting staff ensure that every bite is delicious. Our facilities, nutrition programs and sustainability efforts are regarded as being among the best of our peers. Our inaugural participation in the Partnership for a Healthier America’s Healthier Campus Initiative has solidified our position as a national leader in putting our students’ health and wellness first. In fact, we were the first institution and only campus to date to meet all of the initiatives’ criteria. As one of the “50 Best College Dining Experiences in the Country” (collegerank.net), “Innovator of the Year” (Food Management Magazine), and top 26 Healthist Campus (greatist.com), we take pride in being on the forefront of college dining. Our Farm to Fork and sustainability programs bring local foods into our dining halls and highlight our green initiatives, mostly aimed at reducing waste and energy usage. We are proud of our efforts to nourish our campus, and we continue to look for ways we can improve our program in the coming years.

NC STATE STORES

If students need it, we have it, from course materials to school supplies, and we deliver it in a convenient and affordable way. When you choose us, we reinvest to keep our costs low and contribute annually toward student programming and scholarships. Our operations include Wolfpack Outfitters, Wolf Xpress Print & Copy, and State of the Art. Wolfpack Outfitters on Main and Centennial Campus are quintessential campus stores. Our Main Campus location in Talley Student Union offers 40,000-square-foot of textbooks and course materials, an expanded Apple computer section, a Clinique counter and a wide selection of Wolfpack merchandise and school supplies. It is also the central source for graduation regalia, class rings and diploma frames. Our smaller store on Centennial Campus carries essentials and a smaller assortment of apparel and gifts, but we can transfer anything from the larger store for the convenience of our customers. What students appreciate most, however, is our price comparison and ordering tool, which is built into MyPack Portal. Here they can purchase or rent textbooks in the store or online, compare pricing with other major competitors and look up the buy-back value of a textbook. We are also introducing a new concept: day-one access, which aspires to provide students with online course material access on the very first day of class. We are constantly exploring ways to make textbooks and course materials available at the lowest cost possible for our students. Learn more about State of the Art and Wolfpack Outfitters on page 10 and 12.

8

CAMPUS ENTERPRISES

We operate game day apparel and gift sales at Wolfpack sporting events.

Faculty and staff can purchase computers and technology through NC State’s payroll deduction program.

TRADEMARK LICENSING Symbols, icons, traditions and trademarks — such as the Block S, Tuffy the Strutting Wolf, Mr. Wuf, Wolfpack and NC State — have come to represent the passion of our alumni, fans, students and student-athletes. We seek to protect these marks, promote the university through the use of these marks and generate revenue through licensed trademark royalties. These royalties help fund scholarships and the Campus Enterprises endowment. We’ve placed an emphasis on managing our expanding network of commercial licensees, stressing consistency in the use of our trademarks, and enforcement to protect against infringement. We also work with 685 student organizations and campus departments to ensure proper use of NC State’s trademarks on T-shirts or promotional items, providing them tools like our website and a Google Docs Trademark Use Request form to streamline the process. It has taken more than 125 years for NC State to build its brand. We protect it, promote it and ensure that the university will continue to benefit from it for years to come.

22

CAMPUS ENTERPRISES

DID YOU KNOW? The trademark licensing program at NC State began in 1982-83. The first year’s total royalties were $91,806. Today’s annual royalties are more than $1.4 million. Trademark licensing royalties have funded $12 million dollars in scholarships and endowment since its inception. We work with more than 350 commercial licensees and review more than 6,500 designs annually that incorporate NC State trademarks.
