Tip of the Month Chip, Pitch, Swing I am often asked what the difference is between a chip, a pitch and the swing and basically, it is a fancy way to say ¼, ½ and Full swing and you decide which swing to use based on the distance you have left to the flag, but a question far more important is what do the swings have in common? At impact, my lead arm and club form a straight line, this is identical in all swings, because that is the moment maximum energy is released from the body, through the club, into the ball. This is also where most amateurs struggle. By keeping the weight on the back foot, in an attempt to hoist the ball up in the air, and decelerating the hands, the club will reach the ball first, aka scooping, which causes poor distance control and inconsistent contact. Also notice how every swing has a follow through similar in length to my backswing, which indicates acceleration, a critical component to becoming a better ball striker and playing with confidence.
Chip: You are almost on the green and can land the ball near you and run it to the hole. The technique is usually described as a pendulum swing from the shoulders, with no wrist hinge.
Pitch: Resembles a long chip, with wrist hinge, which produces a higher ball flight with less role. The technique is usually described as a chip + wrist hinge, where the top of the backswing would resemble the letter L. A subtle shoulder turn and weight shift does take place.
Swing: You use this for maximum distance. The technique is described as the power swing, it is where your turn your body fully, and take your arms as far back as possible, in order to generate maximum speed.

April is the Month of the Military Child Question: What does the Month of the Military Child mean to you? We visited to John O. Arnn Elementary School and asked several students and this is what we learned ....
Paige 2nd Grade
Kaden 2nd Grade
Liam 2nd Grade
It is a time to appreciate the Military Child for dealing with the difficult parts of their parent’s job, like moving often and their parents being away and still being good kids.
Ava & Aaron 2nd Grade
Ian 3rd Grade The military helps kids, moms, dads and pets. They also make the earth a better place to live. I like to move as a military kid.
Paula 3rd Grade
Garrett 3rd Grade Month of the military child means you can trust a person that leaves.
Being a military child is important to me because I get to explore new countries. Even though I miss my friends, I still keep them in my heart and memories. Whenever I have to move I keep special thoughts in my head. Even though I don’t like moving, I am still proud to be a military child.
Emeri 3rd Grade I think month of the military child means to celebrate military children that are strong and do their best anywhere they go.
It means we travel a lot and I meet new people.
Everyone should celebrate Military Kids! We are lucky that our parents are in the Army because they protect our country!
Skye 3rd Grade It means I am adaptable and a world traveler!
Rafael 3rd Grade Paola 3rd Grade Being a military child means being brave when you and your family have to move or a family member has to leave for a certain amount of time.
Month of the military is important. It is important because military children have a month. It is kind of hard to move and leave my friends. It is cool that I am able to go to cool places. I will remember all my friends. Month of the military child is awesome!
Casey 3rd Grade My dad served in the Army for 25 years and he is retired. I was born in Okinawa, Japan. I love being a military child because it is very exciting. I get to make a lot of new friends and travel to different places. Being a military child is a great experience and opportunity.
Gabrielle 3rd Grade Month of the Military child means a lot to me. Being a military child is hard. My dad is in the Army and has to go a lot of different places. Next year, he will live in Honduras for a YEAR. I also have to move every two years after I make a bunch of friends it seems like I have to move a few months later. I miss my friends when I move or if they move, but when I move I know there is a lot I can learn.
April is Month of the Military Child, a special month in which we raise awareness on the important role children play in the Armed Forces community. There are approximately 2 million military children ranging in age from newborn to 17 years old, living in either military or civilian communities; children who experience unique challenges related to military life and culture. Our Camp Zama community celebrates this month, in recognition of our children’s strength, their courage, and for their perseverance in theface of adversity. Thank you for being such great kids for mom and dad!
Jade 4th Grade It means to celebrate kids who sacrifice for their parents while they are fighting for this country, our freedom, and our rights. They are moving all around the world making new friends and having different houses while their parents are fighting.
Maydil 4th Grade
Laura 5th Grade Shaylyn 3rd Grade I think it means to celebrate military children’s support of their parents sacrifice.
Viola 5th Grade To celebrate those who come and go, but also to celebrate the children who serve us around the world.
“Little soldiers on Earth”
A lot of people might not know this but Military children go through a lot… we move a lot and it is tough because we have to say goodbye to all our friends and family, but we also get to go to all these exotic places, like Japan. So even though we have to say goodbye, we also get to meet new people see new things.
Wyatt 6th Grade We have to move every three years, but in a good way by going to new countries.
