Lodging

During WWII, the Kure Naval District was Japan’s single largest naval base and arsenal, housing most of the city’s industry and workforce employed in the service of naval installations, munitions factories and other support functions. It is this strategic significance that drew a heavy and sustained Allied bombardment culminating in the Bombing of Kure in June and July 1945. Today, Kure continues to be a major maritime center hosting the dockyards of numerous shore based facilities of the JMSDF, gaining fame as a tourism center featuring artifacts and mementos from the JMSDF museum of naval history.

You’ve been disciplined on getting to the gym and working out, but the holidays is soon upon us. You’re thinking, how am I going to keep this up with all those holiday cravings? Here are a few tips that just might help you out: • Drink plenty of water or other calorie-free beverages. • Be choosy about nighttime snacks. Either close down the kitchen after a certain hour or allow yourself a low-calorie snack, like a 100-calorie pack of cookies or a half-cup scoop of low-fat ice cream. • Enjoy your favorite foods. Instead of cutting out your favorite foods altogether, be a slim shopper. Buy one fresh bakery cookie instead of a box, or a small portion of candy from the bulk bins instead of a whole bag. • Eat protein at every meal. Protein is the ultimate fill-me-up food -it’s more satisfying than carbs or fats and keeps you feeling full for longer. It also helps preserve muscle mass and encourages fat burning. • Get enough sleep. When you’re sleep deprived, your body overproduces he appetite-stimulating hormone ghrelin but under-produces the hormone leptin, which tells you when you’re full. Getting enough sleep may make you feel rested and full and keep you from doing unnecessary snacking.

GRIDIRON CHALLENGE XIII 2020-2021 CAMP ZAMA COMMUNITY CLUB

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS 2020 The “Gridiron Challenge” is a very popular Camp Zama Community Club program. A high percentage of the military community are “Fans of the NFL” and this challenge provides football fans the opportunity to show their knowledge of the game by picking weekly game winners. There is no cost to play the “Gridiron Challenge.”

There are several parts to the Challenge-- here is some information you should know. PLAYOFF CONTEST

17 WEEKS – REGULAR SEASON For 17 weeks, from September 10, 2020 to January 3, 2021, you can pick up an entry form every Thursday from 5 - 7 p.m. at the Game Time Sports Bar showcasing the games scheduled for the upcoming week. Entry forms must be turned in before 7 p.m. to the staff at the CZCC. When you receive your first entry form you will receive information explaining the “tie-breaker” Only one entry per week. Each weekly winner will receive a prize with a value in excess of $175. A photo will be taken of all winners and displayed in the CZCC.

All weekly winners names (17) will be placed in a drawing and the winner will receive VIP seating and a steak breakfast for him / her and 9 friends at Zama’s Super Bowl Party on February 8, 2021.

CUMULATIVE PRIZE

There are two parts to the Play-off Contest.

Play-Off Picks: On Week 14 pick the 12 teams that you think will make the playoffs. Once the playoff teams are determined the participant with the correct teams will win $100. There will be a tie-breaker for the Play-off Picks also. Play-Off Games: Once the playoff teams are determined you must pick which teams will win each game. The format will be the same as during the regular season. Any wins from the regular season do not count in the playoff contest. The conference playoff games are the last games for the playoff challenge. The person with the most wins during the playoffs will receive a $100 prize.

The total wins that each participant picks each week will be kept on file at the CZCC. This sheet will be available for all to view on the Gridiron Challenge Board. The Top 3 players with the most wins after week 17 will receive a prize of $200 (1st Place), $100 (2nd Place) and $50 (3rd Place).

Camp Zama’s SHARP Corner Presents: Bystander Intervention 3Ds If you are presented a situation that looks hostile and or inappropriate, remember the 3Ds for Bystander Intervention. 1. Direct: Confront the perpetrator, remove either party from the situation that may become a potential victim or perpetrator. It takes personal courage to intervene. 2. Distract: Change the subject, do anything that distracts potential perpetrator or say out loud “I think someone is coming.” 3. Delegate: Have friends, squad/section members, or co-workers take either person out of the situation. Send someone for HELP to intervene (MPs, Chain of Command, etc.) Remember to always be sure it is SAFE for you to intervene! 24/7 SHARP Hotline number for Honshu: 090-9395-8909 • DoD Safe Helpline: 877-995-5247
