INTRODUCTION
London is not only hosting The Olympics - but 2012 marks the tenth year of The London Design Festival. It seems hard to believe that the first year of the festival had just 32 venues in comparison to approximately 200 now. What differentiates The London Design Festival from many taking place around the world is the focus on creativity as part of the design process. Therefore the introduction this year of the inaugural Global Design Forum which takes place on Tuesday, September 18th is dedicated to debates on how design can impact on the world. Speakers range from Thomas Heatherwick to Matthew D Siskin, designer of Beyonce's social networking sites and website.
We have a limited allocation of press passes for individual sessions, so if you are interested in any specific session please email neil.byrne@camronpr.com. The programme is included in this pack on p. 23. This will be on a first come first serve basis. In our London Design Festival pack, you will see that we have provided a road map of our 'TOP TEN' - as well as highlights you should not miss. Any questions should be directly to judith.fereday@camronpr.com. We have also provided a list of inspirational 'non-design destinations' in the city - as well as our favourite restaurants and bars.
The V&A is the hub of The London Design Festival with installations and a series of talks. For those of you who cannot make it to London this year, do download The London Design Festival app - another first for the festival so you can share the events remotely. We look forward to welcoming you to London.

The Modern Pantry The Modern Pantry's philosophy: the desire to please and excite the palate by fusing everyday cooking with modern ingredients. It’s a great place to enjoy a three course dinner or lunch or maybe something a little lighter after the theatre. Come in and enjoy a cup of coffee and a pastry or a glass of wine and a snack at any time of the day, or choose from the delicatessen dishes, sandwiches, soups, pies and pastries, cakes, coffees, teas and juices to take away.

Brasserie Max Beneath a row of flags topping the stern, stylish Covent Garden Hotel, this bar-restaurant offers a lovely environment in which to sip drinks and munch on snacks. The tone is set by an ice bucket of Krug on the bar counter; however, the fine cocktails, oldschool martinis and updated classics such as the Covent Garden Mojito (with blood-orange purĂŠe), may be a better bet. The wine list is good. Platters come in Asian, Mediterranean, dumpling and miniburger varieties. Waiters squeeze their way between the half-moon chairs from the zinc bar in a bid to create a brasserie atmosphere.

Burger and Lobster NEW Formerly a Mayfair pub, Burger & Lobster is the much talked about restaurant to rival the likes of Meat Liquor. Staying true to a new trend of restaurants in London the menu is a stripped down selection consisting of Lobster, Lobster Roll and Burger. Be prepared to wait at the bar as there is a strict no booking policy, however once seated in true Camron style all on offer was sampled and we have to agree that a lack of choice is an excellent thing and it was definitely worth the wait.

Spunito It's New York's Lower East Side. The rusting speakeasy-style entrance is as discreet as can be; inside, tattooed bar staff are mixing drinks. The menu's a departure from the US diner food of the twentieth century, but it's right on-trend for Gotham in the twenty-first. 'Sliders' are trendy, starter-sized tiny burgers, often served more than one at a time. Although beef patty is the most popular filling, meatballs and other fillings can be used. The Spuntino versions use toasted brioche buns, with fillings such as ground beef that uses bone marrow as a fat source to keep the tiny patty moist. Salt beef, lamb or spiced mackerel are alternatives.

There are some hidden gems like by-appointment-only LN-CC (ln-cc.com) and the curated clothing and furniture at Pelicans & Parrots (pelicansandparrots.com). Grab a quick and delicious lamb shish at Best Turkish Kebab (thebestturkishkebab.com) or fried chicken and waffles from Rita's Bar & Dining (ritasbaranddining.com). A Little Of What You Fancy (alittleofwhatyoufancy.info) and Black Pig With White Pearls (blackpigwithwhitepearls.co.uk) are culinary treats in the neighborhood. Take a break from design, grab a coffee at Beyond Retro (beyondretro.com) or one of the nearby cafes and head to see an independent film at Rio Cinema (riocinema.org.uk)

LONDON TOP 10 NON-DESIGN DESTINATIONS
8. ANGEL/ISLINGTON This is an easy escape if you want to head out for some shopping therapy and endless food options. Its a short tube ride from Shoreditch. The Gate (thegaterestaurants.com/islington), an excellent vegetarian restaurant just opened up here on St. John Street. And Old China Hand serves up delicious dim sum hidden in a pub. Head up to Camden Passage to find vintage treasures and Smug (ifeelsmug.com), a tiny boutique selling home wares and lifestyle products perfect for take-home gifts.
9. COLUMBIA ROAD FLOWER MARKET This very London experience takes place every Sunday between 8am to 2pm and is a cornucopia of garden and house plants and cut flowers. To get the best from Columbia Road, always arrive early – ideally before 10am as it gets busy very quickly. Walk up and down a few times to identify the bargains of the day – it is amazing the variations in price and quality between the various stalls! Then with mental list compiled head off to one of the lovely cafes for a coffee and a bacon roll. For those in search of something a little stronger, The Royal Oak Pub has the associated market license and is open from 8am on Sundays, spot the people who still have not been to bed from the night before! For those not so green fingered, chic little boutiques line this historic street along with shops selling breads, cheese and other beautiful bits and bobs. My favourite shop is Treacle, a haven of fairy cakes, Victoria sponges and fruit loaves. Their mini fairy cakes look like trays of jewels. columbiaroad.info

10. BOROUGH MARKET This thriving market is open on Thursday, Fridays and Saturdays. It is hugely atmospheric and if you are staying with friends in London, then go shopping here and cook them supper. Currently, with game in season you will see pheasants hanging and there are endless tastings happening especially on Saturday mornings. Go for breakfast to Roast, The Floral Hall (within Borough Market) Stoney Street. To get there take the tube to London Bridge or Borough stations. boroughmarket.org.uk
