INTRODUCTION The London Design Festival officially starts on September 17th, but there are already a lot of things happening this week, and we are pleased to share our pack with you again this year. For those of you coming to London from global cities, don’t forget to get accreditation for the London Design Biennale. This is a ticketed event, and you can easily sign up on: http:/www.londondesignniennale.com/press. A favourite is ‘Mezzing in Lebanon’ on the back terrace by the river - which recreates a street scene including an authentic barber shop and coffee stall. During The London Design Festival, the first stop tends to be the V&A which is our official hub. Always inspiring, seek out Mathieu Lehanneur’s ‘Liquid Marble’ over in the Norfolk House Music Room, and Beloved by Istanbul-based architects Tabanlıoğlu who have brought to life the 1943 novel, Madonna in a Fur Coat, by Sabahattin Ali on the bridge over the Medieval and Renaissance galleries. Meantime, at The Chelsea College of Arts, Alison Brooks Architects has created a 34-metre rectangular hardwood tube which will be illuminated at night. At the other end of the city in Shoreditch, MINI Living is working with London architect, Asif Khan, to create three plant-filled outside rooms, Connect, Create and Relax. MINI Living: Forests is open from the 17th - 25th of September. Key destinations for your planning include The Brompton Design District which i celebrates ten years and 100% Design (21st-24th) at Olympia with a talks programme curated by the Design Museum. Do not forget to visit LuxuryMade (21st-24th), which debuts in Olympia’s Pillar Halls. Design Junction (22nd-25th) has relocated to a new home in King’s Cross, 1 Granary Square - a dynamic part of the city. TENT (22nd-25th) is now under a new umbrella at the Old Truman Brewery called the London Design Fair. Finally. Decorex opens from the 18th-21st at Syon Park with 400 hand-selected exhibitors and Crafthouse, located in four areas within the fair - Eating, Bathing, Working, Sleeping. This promises to be an exceptional London Design Festival and we look forward to seeing you over the next few weeks. Judy Dobias Managing Director

LuxuryMade is a highly selective design event centered on the luxury interior design market, demonstrating paramount examples of craftsmanship across decorative and luxury furniture. Set in a unique setting, LuxuryMade will bring together a selection of the best manufacturers in the industry and play a fundamental role in the fast up and coming district of West Kensington in September 2016. The launch of LuxuryMade marks an exciting moment for Media 10, the London Design Festival and the interior design community. Showcasing furniture, fabrics and carpets, lighting and accessories, LuxuryMade is set to be a new focus for exceptional design, quality and inspiration. Event Director William Knight has said that ‘By staging a beautifully produced and highly selective showcase of some of the best contemporary and decorative brands in a stunning central location, it responds to an expanding market in need of a new high quality event and visitor experience. Olympia’s Pillar Halls Set across two impressive spaces within one truly remarkable venue, LuxuryMade will take place in Olympia’s Pillar Halls, parts of which have been hidden from public view for over 20 years. A striking setting, the Pillar Hall is an extravagant banquet room with ornate marble Corinthian columns and intricately embellished ceilings. The high arches of the Upper Pillar Hall, which was once the UK’s first electric cinema, will serve as the second space. Both halls, constructed as part of the original Olympia site which opened in 1886 as the ‘Prince’s Apartments’, demonstrate the grandeur of magnificent Victorian architecture and subsequently, provide the ultimate venue for this event.

LUXURYMADE 2016

Space Conception London-based international studio Maddux Creative will be responsible for the aesthetics of the show’s interior. Experts in bespoke interior design, this collaborative force of skilled interior designers and architects, is headed up by design duo Jo leGleud and Scott Maddux. Founded in 2011, Scott and Jo have established a strong multidisciplinary design team with a shared aesthetic vision and creative sensibility. Focusing their collective skills, dedication and knowledge they deliver imaginative and distinct designs tailor-made to address their clients’ specific needs and tastes. In designing the space, Maddux Creative will forge an atmosphere representative of the diverse range of exhibitors, creating a setting aimed to inspire and enthral visitors.

DAMN° magazine and Flanders House – Embassy of Belgium in London are honoured to invite you to the inauguration of Belgium’s representation for the first edition of the London Design Biennale on Wednesday 7 September at 5pm (East Wing, room 12) followed by a reception from 6pm to 8pm at Somerset House’s Tom’s Kitchen Terrace.

EXACTLY 500 YEARS UTOPIA APPROXIMATELY 50 YEARS EUTOPIA

pls RSVP before 04/09

tasya@damnmagazine.net The theme of the Biennale is Utopia by Design, stimulated by the 500th anniversary of Thomas More’s fictional socio-political work Utopia, which was published in Leuven (Belgium). More had visualised Utopia in the form of a map shaped like a human skull. Especially for this occasion, DAMN° is launching an updated Utopian map – as a symbolic wake-up call for Europe – by Belgian artist Benoît Van Innis, a hand-printed lithograph of EUtopia, realised in limited edition posters available for purchase. The drawing also graces the cover of the upcoming issue of DAMNº magazine, a homage to Sir Thomas More. DAMNº wishes to thank all of our partners. Firstly, Benoît van Innis for his lithograph and his immediate ‘yes’; Pierre Bleue Belge for delivering the beautiful stone that so wonderfully expresses Belgitude; Frederik Delbart for his outstanding design; Van Den Weghe for so swiftly and eloquently producing the table; Delta Light for illuminating the space; Flanders House – Embassy of Belgium in London for their spontaneous support; Fritz Hansen for the elegant chairs and last but not least, the London Design Biennale. damnmagazine.net benoit-artist.com frederikdelbart.be vandenweghe.be deltalight.com pierrebleuebelge.be fritzhansen.com flandershouse.co.uk londondesignbiennale.com
