Camron in Milan NEW

INTRODUCTION We look forward to seeing many of you in Milan next week for what will be the 56th edition of Salone del Mobile. A highlight this year is the return of Euroluce with 454 participants focused on product and design innovation in lighting. We are looking forward to celebrating Marva Griffin’s 20th year of Salone Satellite which comprises of 650 designers under the age of 35. It will showcase products that have gone into further production following their debut at the fair. Many successful designers were talentspotted at Salone Satellite and the 20th edition will pay homage to those successes. In this pack, we have introduced some new features. One of these is an interactive Google Map to help you locate key destinations and adjacent places to meet people for lunch or a coffee. Additionally, instead of our top ten installations, we have changed this to districts and exhibition spaces within the city. You will also find a comprehensive list of what we are doing with our clients in Milan this year. In addition to our client projects, we are also looking forward to visiting some of the following that I wanted to share with you. Within La Triennale is an exhibition called ‘Still Motion’ including the graphic work of Jonathan Barnbrook who never disappoints. Wallpaper* Handmade has an ecclesiastic theme this year in the new location at Mediateca Santa Teresa. This will include an entrance vestibule devoted to the people’s religion of football! Maison Hermes will be at La Pelota and following the theme of luxury, Cartier will participate for the first time at the Industrial Garage Sanremo with a space called ‘When the ordinary becomes precious’ while Louis Vuitton can be found at Palazzo Bocconi with ‘Objets Nomades’. Ventura Projects has a new exhibition location, which is called Ventura Central and this will be within a series of abandoned warehouses at Milan Central Station. However, do ensure you don’t miss out on going to Ventura Lambrate to experience the IKEA Festival which is the size of a city block and promises everything from morning yoga to food trucks. If you would like to get there easily, catch a festival bus from Multiplex. This destination is by Tom Dixon with a wide range of companies and is a first endeavour in this dynamic cinema and gallery Teatro Manzoni. If you arrive by the weekend, you will find that from Monday, many press previews are already taking place and we have listed many of these in our Milan Pack. You will be pleased to know that we are expecting exceptional weather from Monday onwards – with sunshine and warm temperatures. See you in Milan! Judy Dobias

Some of our recommendations include: The new Prada Foundation Cafe: Bar Luce (Largo Isarco 2) and one of Milan’s oldest and finest pastry shops, Pasticceria Marchesi (Via Monte Napoleone 9). For a serious breakfast meeting or aperitivo, head to The Four Seasons or Park Hyatt. For central Milan, the best meeting point is Café Peck, via Victor Hugo 4 and is very close to the Duomo. Adjacent to Rossana Orlandi is the magical Marta (formally known as Pane e Acqua) - ideal for lunch, opens at 11AM.

Once again, the Salone del Mobile.Milano prepares for the international limelight with its 56th Exhibition, which runs between Tuesday 4th and Sunday 9th April at the Fiera Milano Rho. The event confirms its place as the benchmark for quality and innovation thanks to the broad and comprehensive range of products on offer, from furniture and furnishings, to lighting and workspaces in two concomitant events, as well as its place as a forum for ideas. Some 2,000 exhibitors will be showing their wares across a display area exceeding 200,000 m2. These impressive figures, along with the thousands of products being unveiled for the first time, confirm the Salone del Mobile’s enormous value as an international showcase for creativity and a forum for industry professionals, with more than 300,000 visitors expected to attend from over 165 different nations. The exhibition is open to industry professionals every day between 9:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. It is also open to the general public on Saturday and Sunday. Chairman Roberto Snaidero says: “A showcase for Italian and international furnishing excellence, the Salone del Mobile is putting the finishing touches to its fifty-sixth edition, which once again offers a unique opportunity for world industry leaders to unveil their products. The wide, exclusive range of commercial offerings on show attracts more than 300,000 industry visitors from over 165 countries, as well as premium media outlets from around the globe and of course the general public. Our close partnership with the city of Milan is of vital importance, confirming the city and the event’s status as capitals of design.” The Salone Internazionale del Mobile is subdivided into three sections: Classic, Design and xLux, a sector dedicated to timeless luxury reinterpreted with a contemporary touch, which launched successfully last time round. Biennial events taking place alongside the Salone offer enormous synergies: Euroluce in Pavilions 9-11 and 13-15, and Workplace3.0 in Pavilions 22-24, as well as the Salone del Complemento d’Arredo and SaloneSatellite. Euroluce, which is being staged for the 29th time this year, showcases the best the world lighting market has to offer, from decorative products to technical lighting for application in industrial, street, entertainment and hospital system environments, home automation and lighting systems, sources and light technology.

@CAMRONPR

SALONE DEL MOBILE For the twentieth year, the SaloneSatellite will be offering a place for young people selected from five continents, business people, architects, interior designers and the press to meet in Pavilions 22 and 24; the general public may enter free from Cargo 5. Alongside the many products on show, two biennial fair events are dedicated to lighting and the workplace. The first, curated by Simone Ciarmoli who curated Before Design: Classic at the last edition of the Salone del Mobile.Milano, is titled DeLightFuL (short for Design Light Future Living). The Exhibition features the presentation of an independent fantasy-inspired short film from multi-award winning director Matteo Garrone. The other event, A Joyful Sense at Work, curated by Cristiana Cutrona, conveys a vision of the evolving future scenario of office environments, presenting innovative content and approaches to the design of office products and workspaces through three installations, each of which features the cultural specificities of the three areas from which their international architect designers come: America, Asia and Europe.

Press release: After winning the Milano Design Award 2016, the fourth edition of the design week at 5VIE district is starting, with even more international events and a special attention to territorial marketing. This year again, the goal is to promote and acknowledge the new district’s venues by organizing accurate cultural events in the area. History, culture and innovation: these are the values of 5VIE Art+Design, which has been working for four years to carry out its cultural and territorial marketing project to promote Milan’s Old Town. Literally, the 5 Streets – 5VIE – are Via Santa Marta, Via Santa Maria Podone, Via Santa Maria Fulcorina, Via Bocchetto and Via del Bollo. After 4 years, this district has become wider but compact at the same time, it is characterized by Roman roots and Milanese features, archaeological remains, beautiful cloisters, modern architecture and new areas that are being renovated. This year each of the micro-areas of the district is characterized by co-production and cultural collaboration projects, which have been chosen by the four district’s founders (Alessia del Corona Borgia, Emanuele Tessarolo, Aline Parisetti Calvi Radice Fossati and Ernesta Del Cogliano) together with PS, the district’s Design Advisor since the first edition.

Press release: On the occasion of the week of Fuorisalone 2017, on stage in Milan from April 4th to April 9th, Brera Design District will be at its 8th edition. The Brera district, business and creative hub of the city of Milan, extends from the new area of Porta Nuova-Gae Aulenti to via Broletto, from via Legnano to via Montenapoleone, following the borders established by DUC Brera (Distretti Urbani del Commercio Central Business Districts). In the previous edition of the Fuorisalone, Brera Design District saw more than 168 events and 295 brands involved with over 250,000 visitors, 100,000 visits to the website, 22,000 Instagram images posted to the hashtag #BreraDesignDistrict and 16,000 followers of the official profile. The theme of the 2017 edition of Brera Design District is ‘Designing is a game, playing is a project’. This year we treasured the experience we had with Brera Design Days, the event organised and produced by Studiolabo and Brera Design District. From October 1st to October 9th 2016 we reflected on and discussed various topics including design and project planning, smart cities, graphics, hybridisation, interaction design and gamification. The success gained by this last topic was what really inspired the choice of the theme. A reflection on the practice of game as an opportunity to design, in particular on the importance that gamification may acquire in service design and in the interaction and communication between brand and customer.

DESIGN DISTRICTS The theme is a quote by Bruno Munari and strongly refers to his imaginary and design approach. Munari worked a lot on the concepts of game and toy. In Da cosa nasce cosa he wrote: “We should also create didactic toys for adults to remove prejudice and train the mind, to set hidden energies free”. Never stop playing, not even, and especially not while designing. We asked ourselves what we can learn by playing that can be used in both our profession and our everyday life. For this reason we developed a manual showing how game dynamics, if extracted from the mere recreational context, might become applicable rules and practices for design: from communication to services, from product to marketing. Ten things we learn by playing and designing: 1. Whenever you fail you improve yourself. 2. Clear objectives and immediately visible results justify the effort. 3. Simulating is better than recounting. 4. Even the most brilliant game system can be confirmed or contradicted only by using it. 5. Playing simplifies complexity. 6. The more the game is abstract, the more the packaging is the key for selling it. 7. If you play, you learn. 8. Even the smallest change to a rule might disrupt the game. 9. Every game has a life span, let’s accept it. 10. Playing is a free choice.

Press release: Following the success of the 2016 edition, with 150.000 visitors, more than 200 events featuring 20 different countries, the Tortona Design Week has once more affirmed its role as one of the crucial attractions in town during the design week, a classic destination for the many enthusiasts of the Fuorisalone (according to GfK, Tortona is amongst the most attractive areas for more than 76% of Design Week guests). The 2017 edition showcases many new features and key-figures Designers, projects and firms from all over the world – China, Brasil, Germany, Japan, France, Latvia, Mexico, Holland, Poland, Singapore, Turkey, UK and USA – are aiming to investigate and illustrate the new paradigms of contemporary design, which is more and more interconnected, flexible, challenged by ever-changing needs and demands. From nomadic design to color, from manufacturing 4.0 to social design, up to new trends in furnishing and interior design: the Tortona Design Week will offer a wide perspective onto future design and on the most current and interesting topics developed by firms and designers.

DESIGN DISTRICTS This edition confirms BASE Milano, opened precisely one year ago, as the Design Center and cornerstone of the area. During the Fuorisalone of 2017, the premises of the ex-Ansaldo industrial complex will host exhibitions, designers, enterprises, university colleges and several projects on the theme of nomadic design. The exhibition Design Nomade (the first exhibition project to be based on an international call by BASE Milano, under the supervision of Stefano Mirti) features several different examples built around the idea of deft design, conceived for the new needs of contemporary lifestyle: from Itaca, the portable house by Elena Bompani, to WaterBed, the water-floating house by Daniel Durin, to the experimentations of HOMI Smart. The show is broadened by an installation designed by Rome-based collective Orizzontale. BASE Milano will also host the event “Manifattura 4.0. The challenge for the future of the Italian companies”, organized by CNA (Confederazione Nazionale dell’Artigianato e della Piccola e Media Impresa), presenting two special projects: “Green Smart Living” and “rOBOTRIP | open tools for art and design”, created by WeMake and Caracol Design Studio and the installation designed by Raumlaborand Moleskine, which will unveil the creative process behind the Classic Backpack during the Tortona Design Week. Always addressing the theme of nomadic design and part of the exhibition at BASE Milano, Quiuboxby Tomaso Boanoand Jonas Prismontas features two “traveling” structures that will serve as InfoPoints in the area, but will also and more importantly function as incubators of knowledge and know-how. Quibox represents a contact point between the Afro-Colombian community and the making process, a temporary factory for creativity and social action.

Superdesign SHOW, Superstudio’s project for Milano Design Week looks to the future for its third edition. It focuses on research, on freedom of choice, on contaminations between classic and avant-garde, industry and craftsmanship, tradition and future, simplicity and magnificence, being aware that everything has been done by now, that the whole world takes part in the evolution of the habitat that surrounds us, that rules and boundaries are out-dated. Superdesign SHOW breaks the mold and is about 360 ° Design: industrial design, art design, crafts copyright, technology, automotive, objects for the home, textiles, decoration, contamination with tradition, and everything that design proposes to move with the times. And yet the design Cities, emerging countries have become the protagonists, the Materials Village with companies that propose projects on innovation and technology of materials. TIME TO COLOR! is the theme for this year chosen by Superdesign to “paint” their new environments, to invite its exhibitors to think about exhibitions and presentations in which color is part of the language and trends. PepsiCo presents the project Mix it Up, creating – with Mathieu Lehanneur, Luca Nichetto, Fabio Novembre, Davide Oldani, Studio Job, Patricia Urquiola and many others - an exploration between past, present and future, on how food and beverages are consumed in our hyperconnected society.

From 4 – 9 April, 128 exhibitors from all over the world will arrive in Lambrate for the 8th edition of Ventura Lambrate. As always, Ventura Lambrate puts a strong emphasis on the development and usage of new materials. During the 2017 edition, a range of projects will show how designers re-think resources, discover new processes and discuss the implications of material use for the environment. The re-evaluation of materials is even more important in a time when technologies are evolving but resources are diminishing. In addition to some in-depth material research, the Ventura Lambrate visitor will be able to see final products showcased, each being the result of unusual materials utilisation or material combinations. Design processes are in essence social – an aspect that demonstrates the designer’s role and responsibility in society. Every year Ventura Lambrate reveals the importance of collaboration and social change in design. You will find mixed collectives, international academies and a range of different backgrounds all uniting to address social issues. In the 2017 edition we have a total of 36 nationalities and 20 academies.

Press release: Since 2010, Ventura Projects has been selecting and showing the latest insights in the fast-changing international design world. It took two years to find the perfect spot, but Ventura’s founder and director of Organisation in Design, Margriet Vollenberg, has managed once more to locate the ideal place for international designers to present their work during the Milan Design Week. Ventura Centrale is Ventura Lambrate’s big sister and the latest addition to the 8th edition of Ventura Lambrate Milan (4 - 9 April 2017). “Ventura Centrale has the magic of a busy environment, being located in the warehouses of Milan’s Central Station, combined with the ambience of a place of abandoned beauty.” Its warehouses have been closed off for thirty years and were once used as laboratories, studios and depots. Ventura Centrale offers space to brands with an international reputation that are looking for a unique way to let a large section of the Milan design community experience their work. The first confirmed names are; Lee Broom, MAARTEN BAAS by Lensvelt, Baars & Bloemhoff and Salviati in collaboration with Ben Gorham and Luca Nichetto.

CARWAN GALLERY BEIRUT presents

DRAWING OBJECTS by SIGVE KNUTSON 2 SOLO SHOWS IN MILAN For the occasion of Milan Design Week Carwan Gallery is proud to internationally launch the objects of Sigve Knutson, and to support his compelling design trajectory with two solo exhibitions. Sigve Knutson (b. 1991, Norway) is an experimental designer based between Oslo and Eindhoven. He obtained an MA in Contextual Design at Design Academy Eindhoven in 2016. His practice is motivated by a drawing mentality and a fascination for the intuitive and playful rather than the smoothened and planned. Through a series of methods and material combinations that allows for intuition and spontaneous actions, he aims to make his objects in the same free way as he would make a drawing. Knutson developed this project to explore how a designer might work if the qualities of drawing, without waning one’s original intuitions, were applied to the various phases of production. During the production process, the designer’s rich personal imagery is translated and transformed, smoothed and filtered. There is a gradual decline of the original intuitions. By connecting drawing to crafts, for instance, a new range of methods and ways of making objects emerges. Traces and marks from the production are left visible on the surface of the objects, making a stronger connection with the drawings. The intuitive and personal are not smoothed away, but they become the foundations from which objects are born.
