INTRODUCTION MILAN 2015 As we head to Milan, this particular year will be unique with EXPO starting shortly after the Salone finishes. The energy is already present with pavilions complete and many ‘sneak previews’ being planned. At the fair this year, Euroluce is going to be a major destination. It always exceeds expectations and we have heard from a number of journalists who plan to spend more time at the fair this year. In the city, there are expanding districts and destinations and within our Milan pack this year we have tried to make this easier to navigate. Tortona is making a big effort this year, Brera continues to get stronger and we are going to head to 5VIE, San Gregorio Docet, Zona Santambrogio and San Babila. This year seems to be the year of the Palazzo. Not only will our own project at Palazzo Crespi with Airbnb and Fabrica be unmissable, but others you should not miss include Palazzo Clerici with Vitra Design Museum, Palazzo Serbelloni with Caesartone and Philippe Malouin, Palazzo Bocconi with Louis Vuitton, and Palazzo Litta with DAMN° magazine and MOSCA Partners. We look forward to seeing many of you. So much of this week is about seeing friends we value from around the world. As always, you will find key hashtags, people to follow on social media, and our personal favourite restaurants, bars and cafes. Hopefully the sun will shine! See you in Milan, Judy Dobias Managing Director

GETTING AROUND With so many people heading to Milan airports, if you arrive at Linate from Tuesday onwards, you might want to book a car to collect you and our suggested company is AUTONOLO MILANO (www.autonolomilano.it) Please contact Carlo or Anna on +39 02 65 52 732 or +39 02 65 75 777 and do mention Camron if you book. You can also email the company at autonolomilano@autonolomilano.it. Arriving at Malpensa, take the train directly into the city and then a taxi. Additionally, you might want to book them for half a day to take you around the showrooms to maximise your time. Do not take a taxi to the Fiera – take the metro. In the evening, taxis are hard to find and they don’t stop if you wave them down, so have the numbers (02 8585, 02 6767, 02 5353, 02 8383 and 02 3100) handy. REMEMBER- The meter will start running as soon as the driver gets the call!

MEETING POINTS If you want to meet people, there are several key places that we would suggest listed below. These are away from design destinations and are accessible. Some of our recommendations include the following: if you are in Brera seek out Princi, Via Ponte Vetero. Adjacent to Rossana Orlandi is the magical Marta (formally known as Pane e Acqua) - ideal for lunch, opens at 11AM. For a serious breakfast meeting or aperitivo, head to The Four Seasons or Park Hyatt. For central Milan, the best meeting point is café Peck, via Victor Hugo 4 and is very close to the Duomo.

The Salone Internazionale del Mobile, split into three style categories: Classic, Modern and Design, the International Furnishing Accessories Exhibition and SaloneSatellite, will be flanked by the biennial Euroluce / International Lighting Exhibition in Pavilions 9-11 and 13-15 and Workplace3.0/SaloneUfficio, dedicated to the workspace, in Pavilions 22-24. Euroluce, the exhibition devoted to excellence in the lighting world, will showcase the very latest in outdoor, indoor, industrial, event/show, special use and hospital lighting solutions, lighting systems, light sources and illumination technology software and consulting. To mark the 2015 International Year of Light proclaimed by UNESCO, architect Attilio Stocchi has conceived “FAVILLA. To every light a voice” for the city of Milan – an installation/event telling the story of and exploring the essence of light. Workplace3.0 is an exhibition with an innovative concept, devoted to design and technology for planning the workspace in the round. Workplace3.0 will bring together the top proposals from the furnishing world for office, banks, insurance offices, post offices and other public spaces, seating for offices and public spaces, acoustics, flooring and coverings, lighting and office accessories as well as audio-video technologies and communication. “The Walk”, a huge installation on exhibit inside the Workplace3.0 pavilions, was conceived by internationally renowned Italian architect Michele De Lucchi as an area for showcasing ideas and design triggers for planning workspaces in their many different contemporary interpretations. New activities and working modes generate new workspaces and new design requisites for “inhabiting them”, with offices increasingly becoming a hub for social interface, meetings and living side by side. Another event – IN ITALY – created by the architectural practice Four in the Morning to a design by architect Dario Curatolo, will feature 64 Italian manufacturers and a select group of designers, planners and architects, who will tackle the theme of products, design and planning. The firms involved will be presented innovatively through the medium of film, with the curator taking the audience through a virtual exploration of Italian knowhow and uniqueness and the production processes behind each object. The film will become an installation, which in turn will become an App used to explore five apartments – in Lecce, Milan, Rome, Venice and the Sienese hillside – done up in five completely different styles. SaloneSatellite will be back in Pavilions 22 and 24 – the same as Workplace3.0 – with free public entry from Cargo 5. Now in its 18th edition, the exhibition is dedicated to the theme “Life Planet”, dovetailing with that of EXPO 2015: Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life. SaloneSatellite is an unrivalled meeting point for 700 young designers selected from all over the world, businessmen, architects, interior designers and the press. The exhibition showcases the work of designers under 35, and offers them a chance to be selected for the 6th annual edition of the SaloneSatellite Award for the 3 best prototypes on exhibit, relating to the product categories on show. For the second year running, the Salone is renewing its ties with the Municipality of Milan, Councillor for Employment, Economic Development, University and Research, Cristina Tajani, and the city’s design schools, which led to the setting up of the Welcome Project at the 2014 edition. Salone del Mobile information points at various focal points around the city will be manned by 100 students, on hand to provide visitors with information on how to negotiate the city, on the trade fair itself and the palimpsest of events in Milan organised by the Department.

@CamronPR

The 5VIE are the historic heart of the city of Milan and include via Santa Marta, via Santa Maria Podone, via Santa Maria Fulcorina, via Bocchetto and via del Bollo. The name “5VIE art+design” combines the three basic concepts which the project aims at developing: history, culture and innovation. Through the creation of a strong brand identity and new communication and sustainable development strategies, the area has become the centre of cultural ventures during the main periods of Milanese creativity. Inaugurated during DESIGN 2014 week, with great success, a high rate of attendance of the public and excellent reviews from the national and international press, 5VIE changed into a new district with a very high artistic-cultural value focused on design and innovation and, at the same time, became the promoter of the cultural wealth of the local area, tradition and the high value of the work of Milanese artisans. After its debut during the Salone del Mobile 2014, which featured the “Baas is in Town” exhibition, dedicated to the Dutch designer Marteen Baas who won the Best Impact Award during the Milan Design Award, the district has continued to stand out for its transversal approach between the commercial soul and the cultural vein, which it illustrates in every project. This year the district of the 5VIE dedicates Milan Design Week to the architect Luigi Caccia Dominioni. On this occasion and exclusively, the Milanese practice will be open by appointment with guided visits. The idea of the district is therefore that of supporting local valorisation by respecting the needs of the many players who animate the area, of creating a strong network and stimulating the active participation of the community and the professionals to systematise skills and opportunities. An authentic “systematisation of cooperation” on the cutting edge at a social, commercial and tourist level which respects the identity of the “Milanese nature” of the 5VIE, while, however, looking to the future. “Thanks to the collaboration launched in recent years between the public and the private sectors we have succeeded in making international an area of the city, the so-called “5VIE” which carries in its own DNA the history, culture and creativity of Milan, the city of design or fashion” – said the councillor for Employment, Economic Development, Fashion and Design Cristina Tajani who went on to say that - ”Thanks to its capacity to do, the district of the 5VIE has become, in just a few years, a place well loved by tourists, visitors and fashion and design operators.” It is with the idea of systematising cooperation, that collaboration continues with the Fondazione Cologni dei Mestieri d’Arte. As it did last year, it will continue this year its scheduling of events and Milanese itineraries of excellence during the Giornate Europee dei Mestieri d’Arte (28-29 March 2015). Some of these events are organised in collaboration with 5VIE such as the lesson on Milanese artistic crafts and applied arts, organised by the Scuola Corsi d’Arte Antiquaria.

5VIE ART + DESIGN To make the topic of knowing how to create excellence and how to transmit it even more significant and tangible, 5VIE and the Fondazione Cologni invite citizens to discover the places where the maestri work. In synergy with what is going on in Florence, Paris, Geneva and in the Vaud Canton, it will also be possible, therefore, in Milan to visit the artisan workshops and ateliers of the artistic maestri who subscribe to the venture in the historic 5Vie area in the centre of Milan from 28 to 29 March 2015. You can consult the program on www.fondazionecologni.it and on www.5vie.it. The homo faber and the excellence of artisan creation are certainly the cornerstone of many of the realities of the 5VIE as Osanna and Madina Visconti, Laboratorio Paravicini, Artisanal and many others demonstrate. The importance and the value of know-how are at the basis of the editorial line with which 5VIE again invests its most important space, Spazio Sanremo del Fondo Immobiliare - Comune di Milano II managed by BNP Paribas REIM SGRpA, which will become the veritable headquarters of the district. The garage spaces, still partially active, last year hosted the production of the Dutch artist-designer Maarten Baas, mainly carried out on site, in the weeks leading up to the salone, by the gang of assistant designers with whom Maartens burns, models and welds his pieces in a carousel of applied pop art. Instead, this year, passing from a circus mood to a Brancusian one, the Sanremo will present a monographic retrospective on the work of the British designer-sculptor Max Lamb organised by Federica Sala. The exhibition “Exercises in seating” will present a wide selection of historic pieces, all characterised by sophisticated research into materials combined with various production techniques. Each piece, contextualised by photographs, videos and illustrations by the designer represents a different point of the same obsession search for the identity of the material, at times brutally sculpted, at time formally contained, at times loose and recomposed. The exhibition dedicated to Max Lamb, is therefore the second chapter of research on contemporary art, narrating a completely different approach both in terms of projectual method and formal result but at the same time similar in the fact that they are both alternative models outside the box. The space will also be a meeting place and a place for the presentation of special projects and collaborations such as: with Nowness, design boom and a pop-up booth by Alla Carta Magazine. Last year’s debut in design already saw the beginning of a first invigorating cascade of strongly local events (such as the Gnam Box Café or the Seletti project in Piazza Affari, the event organised by the landscape artist Piet Oudolf for Green Island at the secret garden in Via Terraggio), but this year the mission of local cultural networking emerges as a veritable editorial line which seems to take design “outside”. Outside soulless locations, outside the pauperisation of the urban fabric, outside consolidated moulds, outside wide cubes with cement floors and the hot/cold split, outside the idea of the self-made to truly marry the idea of networking as a virtuous model (and this is what RestartMilano recalls through Alcantara – seductive interiors and scenes of Carlo Mollino), to narrate how history and territory always and in any case make the difference. And this is the case of YOOX Group which will present at the Pinacoteca Ambrosiana, the Milanese home of the Group, MADE IN MILANO, a project-exhibition exalting the work of local artisans through the global window of yoox.com.

Heartened by this great result, this year it will offer a non-stop calendar of events and a format featuring: a themed topic, the Design Lessons Award, a series of meetings, special projects and cultural events. This year’s ambassadors: designer Luca Nichetto, hosting three events in Brera, artist Patrick Tuttofuoco with his installation in Piazzetta Brera and the architecture firm Piuarch, based in Via Palermo, introducing the project “Milan and its gardens”. Brera, according to Luca Nichetto: “It’s Fuorisalone’s most interesting area, for it centers everything in the heart of Milan. I’ve decided to be part of the Brera Design District project not just because I’m interested in creating an event, but because I really want the public to feel the climate and the atmospheres created by the entire district. A blend of historical buildings, apartments, courtyards and different places, that otherwise people would not have the chance to visit.” Architecture firm Piuarch: “Brera is a place full of suggestion. It’s where our firm is based, in a former printing house, now a two-floor open space located in the middle of a courtyard full of history, where we run an international team of 40 architects and engineers. The Fuorisalone in the Brera Design District benefits from a unique environment and positive influence, contributing to making even more central this area of Milan: undoubtedly, the right destination for the highly valuable projects by those who wish to deliver the public a story of high quality.” Artist Patrick Tuttofuoco: “Brera is the place where my generation and I were taught. It was my “dojo”, my training place. I wanted to bring up a project about identity and my personal history, so after so many years spent abroad it came natural to me to choose the Brera Design District. I was sort of being sentimental, like when you decide to go far away to visit a beloved relative you haven’t seen in years.”

BRERA DESIGN DISTRICT Events and Exhibitions: This year, during the Fuorisalone, designer Luca Nichetto will be attending the Brera Design District with the Swedish brand Kinnarps, with an exhibition interpreting the trend report on new ways to live your office space (Largo Treves 5, entrance from Via Solferino). The designer will also introduce BonBon, a set of mirrored glass tables for the Check brand Verreum (Via Dell’Orso 12), whilst the Foscarini Spazio Brera showroom (Via Fiori Chiari 28) will display a brand new version of Plass lamps and the new table lamp Kurage, designed with Nendo. Several international exhibitors of collective works have chosen this area: Austrian Design Pioneers-Consulate General of Austria (Pelota, Via Palermo 10), Belgium is Design at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts (Via Brera 28), Berlin Design Selection-Dynamo Design Berlin e.V. (Via Goito 3); besides international brands such as Japanese Karimoku New Standard (Via Palemo 1), Brazilian Sollos (Via Solferino 40), Chinese Pinwo Design Company (Via del Carmine 9) and Lighting Innovation Design Center (Via Clerici 10), Swedish Ateljé Lyktan (Corso Garibaldi 117), Dutch eQ+ (Via Del Carmine 11).Once again the Swiss EcalUniversity of Art & Design of Lausanne will be showing at Spazio Orso 16 (Via dell’Orso 16). This year the Brera Design District will also be attended by some of the major firms of Italian and international design: Sebastian Herkner, Arik Levy, Luca Nichetto, Karim Rashid (Verreum); Emmanuel Babled, Lorenzo Damiani, Francesco Faccin, Diego Grandi, Gordon Guillaumier, Paolo Ulian (Alfa Marmi); also, some of the designers of Fabrica, hosting the firm Formafantasma (Daikin). Marimekko Finnish design house Marimekko brings a referential urban home to Spazio Rossana Orlandi. Based on the theme of Marimekko’s autumn/winter 2015 home collection – Mindscapes – the creative installation takes a close look at city architecture and the rhythm we live in. It examines how urban people can find moments of empowerment and peace in their hectic everyday lives by bringing elements of nature into their homes. The installation combines Marimekko textiles and tableware with abstract modules and rich greenery.

ROSSANA ORLANDI Stellar Works For this year’s Salone Internazionale del Mobile, Stellar Works will present A Cabinet of Curiosity, designed by Neri & Hu at Spazio Rossana Orlandi. SAN GREGORIO DOCET San Gregorio Docet returns to Fuorisalone 2015. After the incredible success of last year’s edition the “distretto ristretto” (restricted district), planned and created by Leclettico founder Claudio Loria, will once more be part of this unique international event. Over 10,000 visitors have visited and discovered the new focal point of Milano’s design week: the area surrounding Via San Gregorio, between Porta Venezia and the Central Station. The locations used had been abandoned for many years and were brought back to life to host major international design brands. This year’s absolute news is Leclettico, that has just reached its first ten years of activity and now presents itself not just as the patron of Wallpaper* magazine, as in previous editions, by opening the doors of its gallery and inviting the audience on an emotional journey yet to be revealed. Leclettico thus presents Leclettico. A collection where curious objects trouvé, unusual or destined to oblivion live again thanks to its owner, Claudio Loria, a collector beyond the simple meaning of the term. The search for the unusual piece is, in fact, only the first step; by using creativity and irony, objects from the past are brought back to the contemporary scene and inserted in unusual and surprising arrangements. Loria is therefore also an interior decorator and art director of events with an unique twist, coming from important collaborations such as the ones with Artissima, Louis Vuitton and Aspesi. As in the two previous editions, the excellence duo composed by Leclettico + Wallpaper* from which all started, still remains. This year, Wallpaper* magazine is no longer hosted in Leclettico’s gallery but takes hold of an anonimous commercial gallery of over two thousand square meters making it the set of its renowned “Handmade” exhibition. The central corridor of the gallery will, once again, have an exceptional installation by the Danish brand Kvadrat and everything will be directed and edited by Claudio Loria’s studio attentive and daring eye, which will make San Gregorio Docet, once again, a mecca of the Fuorisalone. Among the great names of the district are Italian radical design icons, such as Gufram, emblem of the aesthetic revolution of the furniture from the sixties and Memphis. The group founded by Ettore Sottsass in 1981 will present “Memphis Variations” an exhibition in style prepared by mixing its historic iconic pieces, that will make a renewed return into the scene of San Gregorio Docet. Lee Broom, British product and interior designer, will transform the spaces of the adjacent Via Cappellini in its “Department Store”. It is, to date, the largest show of the British designer, with the launch of over twenty new products; the collection will feature new materials as well as revisit materials used by Broom for previous collections. Via Cappellini will also be the location of Clarks, the historic British shoe brand, which will celebrate sixty-five years of its iconic Desert Boot with “Clarks: Reeboted” that gathers fourteen leading British and UK- based talents from the art and design world, who will restyle and reinterpret the iconic footwear, each according to his or her own vision. Once again, loyal to the incredible location of the district, Dutch friends Droog, will present in Via Panfilo Castaldi. To celebrate fifty years of its own furnishing systems, USM Haller asked seven design universities to interpret the theme of modularity. The projects will be presented to the public in an exhibition with spectacular scenery in the Hall of Fabrics, Via San Gregorio 29. The creative partnership of Wallpaper* and Leclettico remains at the very heart of the district with Wallpaper* Handmade, now in its sixth year, forming a cornerstone of Salone itself. This year the groundbreaking exhibition will take over an entire arcade on via San Gregorio, joined by Emeco, d3 Dubai Design District, Afghanmade and Gufram. And Kvadrat will give the whole arcade a facelift with a spectacular multi-coloured draped colonnade. Claudio Loria is also celebrating a decade at Leclettico and will once again be welcoming the public in to his extraordinary space.

The lesson by the great post-modern masters, such as Ettore Sottsass and Alessandro Mendini, that since the 70’s propelled fantasy has become the core of contemporary design, merging tradition with eclecticism, experimentation with quality. On the other hand, it opens up more and more to research, to scouting, to selection of creative forces that experiment innovative solutions to improve our life. And it also proposes theme exhibitions providing an overview on still undervalued or partly unexplored complementary worlds such as furniture textile or spaces for kids. Art, as always, interlaces with Design at Superstudio: this year it is a selection of unique art-design pieces for our houses and of installations that may be “used” by getting in or sitting on them.

TRIENNALE DI MILANO Arts & Foods Rituali dal 1851 Arts & Foods. Rituals since 1851 is an exhibition curated by Germano Celant, which will be held at the Triennale in Milan from April 9 to November 1, 2015 Under the architectural direction of Studio Italo Rota, visitors will have the opportunity to immerse themselves physically in a spectacular route where works of art, drawings and architectural models, films, objects, documents, books, menus, and album covers bring to life a narrative that set works and images in their own historical, sociological and anthropological context. 13

Germano Celant’s View of Arts & Foods What does it talk about? In the interior and exterior spaces of the Triennale - about 7,000 square meters, comprising building and garden - Arts & Foods will focus on the plurality of visual language and models, as objects and environmental representations that since 1851, the year of the first Expo in London, have to date revolved around food, nutrition and eating together. It is a global panorama of the interwoven aesthetics and design of eating rituals. It is also an international exhibition that uses a variety of media to offer a view across time, from the historical to the contemporary, of all levels of expression, creativity and communication from all areas of culture.

Offering a layered and multi-sensorial perspective, Arts & Foods, against a backdrop created by Studio Italo Rota, will look to document developments and solutions that relate to food, ranging from kitchen utensils to the dining table and the picnic; from the public aspect of bars and restaurants to the changes that have characterized travel by road, plane and space, to the design and look of buildings dedicated to food production and to food rituals. Arts & Foods offers an exploration of the special bond between the visual arts and the topic of food and of eating together in positive terms, both to reveal rituals and specificity, and to emphasize any idiosyncrasies or problematic areas.

TRIENNALE DI MILANO •

The exhibition will be enriched with masterpieces on loan from museums and public and private institutions, and from collectors and artists of international renown.

What vision of the future does it offer? The project encompasses moments and themes of the rupture and progress that the arts offer as a reading of the history and evolution of food and nutrition. Set in a wide-ranging scenario it traces areas of continuous crossover and contact between the visual arts and various segments of the industrial arts and mass culture. Examples range from the patented imports of new foods of the Western world, presented and shared through Universal Expositions, to the representation of products in the art of the 1960s, with the advent of mass advertising and packaging, arriving at the use of new technologies in both architecture and design, and in the art world. The exhibition sets out to show the future of the documented periods and futuristic nature of discoveries related to food and eating together, and their effect on all the arts, exploring new opportunities for analysis and reflection. What interpretation of the Theme does it offer? Arts & Foods will be organized in chronological order, starting from 1851 up to current times, interweaving testimonies of artists, writers, filmmakers, graphic designers, musicians, photographers, architects and designers. They will range from Impressionism and Pointillism to historic Avant-Garde movements, from Pop Art to the most recent findings, all contributing to how we envision and consume food. It will be a collection and a journey through time that will creatively reflect the theme of the Universal Exposition in Milan, Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life, through hundreds of books, articles and documents from museums and public and private institutions, and from collectors and artists from all over the world. Where does it seek its inspiration? The presence of food, places for eating together and nourishment, have always been a feature of the history of art. In art, food takes on a “representative” value, which in other words, represents something else beyond ourselves. Thus the images of food can represent “otherness,” in terms both of rituals and symbols. The exhibition aims to explore these themes with a 360-degree vision of language and with a view to being as comprehensive as possible. How does it communicate with visitors? The presence of Arts & Foods at the Triennale, set in the center of the City’s urban fabric, and the connection with Expo Milano 2015 represents an opportunity to bring creativity into close contact with a wide audience.

2015 trends and themes: Academies & talents: Once again, Ventura Lambrate will be the place to spot design talent in Milan. Never before have so many academies and universities applied to take part in Ventura Lambrate – a total number of 24 will be putting their work on show. Design scholars will confront the challenges of housing in the future by looking at the reuse of abandoned homes. Sustainability will be set against throwaway consumerism. And small pet houses – an alternative to the cage – will reveal a new vision of animal habitat architecture. The overall trend is about breaking out of discipline-specific frameworks and taking design education to the next level. “Exhibiting in Ventura Lambrate is an opportunity for our students to present their works and meet the professional scene of design face to face. This year we will bring architecture and architectural challenges like Sustainability, Habitation and Transformation to the scene of Ventura Lambrate.”, says Torben Nielsen, Rector Aarhus School of Architecture.

Central Saint Martins, Material Futures (United Kingdom) will bring a wide range of material-research-based work to the Ventura Lambrate stage, including sustainable, synthetically grown gems; religious artefacts that honour light and scent; a musical composition based on the sounds of Indian auto rickshaws; and “extreme fast fashion” – garments meant to be worn once and then disposed of. VIA University College School of Creative Industries (Denmark) is sending students from ten university disciplines to Ventura Lambrate. Their areas of speciality range from material and production design to multi-platform storytelling and visual fashion communication. Together, they’ll explore ways of increasing human resilience under the living conditions of the future. Step into an interspecies world with the exhibition “The Animal Party” by HEAD – Genève (Switzerland). Students will examine the relationship between humans and their animal companions. For instance, in the Mouse Palace, Gaspard Reverdin uses his expertise as an interior architect to improve the living environment for mice. With the motto of “Engaging through Architecture”, the Aarhus School of Architecture (Denmark) will present a series of different building elements and material experiments that investigate current architectural challenges, such as what to do with abandoned houses and how to preserve traditional craftsmanship while combining it with contemporary techniques. Projects on show will include the results of “architectural biopsies” performed on condemned houses, which question the functionality of the buildings’ components and look at their potential for reuse.

VENTURA LAMBRATE 2015 trends and themes: Material research & the design–fashion merge: Today, materials are viewed not merely as substances that make up objects but as entities worth investigating for their undiscovered potential. Materials are getting smarter, the range is expanding, and we’re questioning the limits of use and pushing the boundaries of possibility. From using natural beetroot dye to shaping marble, designers are deepening their materials expertise. This increased interest goes hand in hand with another tendency: the intermingling of the design and fashion industries. Ventura Lambrate exhibitors such as Edelkoort Exhibitions and Craafts draw on contemporary craftsmanship and traditional techniques that are applicable for both furniture and fashion, reshaping both fields.

Design Academy Eindhoven will present “Eat Shit” at Ventura Lambrate - the first exhibition of the new department Food Non Food. The entire department (18 students and their teachers) will transfer to Milan for the event, which delves into the politics of how, where and why we eat in a part exhibition, part public laboratory format. Nothing deserves our attention more than food – it binds us, it fuels us, and the myriad of issues concerning its production, distribution and consumption touch on some of humanity’s most fundamental problems. The event is co-curated by the new department head Marije Vogelzang along with artist and designer Jan Konings. In it we will share projects concerning contemporary food culture while exploring the necessary relationship between education and exhibition. Food is life. Input leads to output. So it makes sense to also examine one of foods stinkiest consequences – shit and waste. Shit is your printout, the great revealer of a person’s health and culture. And to shout “Eat Shit” is to hurl a protest against contemporary realities, which leave people divided and often-times hungry. DAE alumnus Jason Page has discovered over 400 graduation projects focusing on food or faeces from 1976 until now, which will be revealed in a timeline. Also on display will be the installation “Outdoor Pharmacy” by Marloes van Bennekom, the “Poederij” by Femke Mosh, and Arne Hendricks’ “Pigeon Poo Tower”. Next to this we will exhibit recent graduation work like “Popcorn Monsoon” by Jolene Carlier, Pim van Baaren’s “Holy Crap” (a project that rethinks waste in Kathmandu) and “In Limbo Embassy”, a chilling protest project exploring the plight of rejected asylum seekers by Manon van Hoeckel.

PRESENTS: INDUSTRY GARDEN COLLECTION by STUDIO JOB As part of “5 VIE art + design” Casa Rossi , Corso Magenta 12 13-19 April 2015 Press meeting & Cocktail: April 15th 2015, h.18-20 Seletti meets Studio Job through an unexpected project that integrates the accessible design of the Italian brand to the unmistakable style of the creative duo from Antwerp and Amsterdam. Industry Garden Collection is an aesthetically valuable and creative collection for the outdoors that will be presented at the Fuorisalone 2015 as part of “5 VIE art + design”, supported by the City of Milan. Seletti has chosen to transform the courtyard of Casa Rossi, a historical Milanese home from the late 19thcentury, into a secret garden in which the pattern of Studio Job will mix together and create an harmonious contrast that will emphasize the purity of the architectural lines of the villa and will create an oasis in the bustle of the city. Tells Stefano Seletti, art director of the brand: “Many years ago we used to import traditional sets in metal for the garden, the typical vintage looking furnishing pieces. My dream was to have them reinterpreted by Studio Job because I thought that their unusual and highly symbolic patterns would be perfect to give these objects a contemporary touch. And now the dream has come true! “. From this collaboration a set of chairs, a round table and an oval table were born, with more typologies to come later in time. The furnishings are made of cast aluminum and are available in different colors. Special design features ensure that the pieces are lightweight and can be disassembled to ease the transportation. Here is how Studio Job sums up this collaboration: The Industry theme is indeed an icon in our language. It has been used in the most different ways: first used in reliefs for eg. sculptures (2007), marquetry furniture (2008), fashion shows (2010), fabrics (2012) and wallpaper (2014) ….. You see how it works? From high design to ready to use, that’s the way we like it! For the edgy brand Seletti we now re-designed this well known but hyper kitschy garden set using the Industryiconography. …..Why garden? Well, have you ever seen rock and roll garden furniture? So, here it is!….with your gas masks, butterflies and many others from the Studio Job archives. All nicely casted in aluminium and brightly coloured (although our favourite would, off course, be matt black:-)) The presentation in Corso Magenta is part of the Seletti events that will have their base in Piazza Affari as last year. In the shadow of L.O.V.E, the iconic work of Maurizio Cattelan, the brand will present a new version of the Souvenir of Milan that will be sold in exclusive at the street stands in the square from April 14th to 19th. Souvenir of Milan confirmed the affinity of Seletti with Maurizio Cattelan and Pierpaolo Ferrari, from which collaboration came “Seletti wears Toiletpaper”, the highly successful line of house ware products sold all around the world. In those same dates, every night from 8 PM, shows, DJ sets and real bumper cars will animate one of the most serious and institutional locations of the city. Seletti will also attend the fair with a booth at EUROLUCE (Pav. 13, stand E02) which will host all the new products, as the Monkey Lamp by Marcantonio Raimondi Malerba, shown in preview during Maison & Objet, and the bestselling lighting from its catalog, as the bright letters called Neon Art. Also the collaboration with Diesel is confirmed through some additions to Cosmic, a table top collection winner of numerous international awards: an important section of the trend setting Diesel Living stand (Pad. 16, A35 B28) will be dedicated to the products made in together with Seletti. @CamronPR

Réaction Poétique Collection: wooden objects by Jaime Hayon inspired by the works of Le Corbusier, 50 years after his death Jaime Hayon presents a new collection of objects for Cassina inspired by the organic shapes of Le Corbusier’s architectures and esprit nouveau artwork: four table centrepieces, a tray made up of two coffee bean shapes and two small side tables, all rigorously produced in solid ash-wood stained black with a low-gloss finish. The Réaction Poétique Collection remains true to Cassina’s well-established heritage in working with wood, where skilled handcraftsmanship is combined with industrial innovation. These items are branded with the Cassina logo and accompanied by their own identity card to guarantee the authenticity of each single piece. They are also presented in a special packaging to highlight the inimitable quality of the project. As well as the commemoration of the 50 years since Le Corbusier passed away, this year Cassina celebrates the 50th anniversary of the LC Collection (Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret, Charlotte Perriand) with a series of cultural events and product innovation. “I wanted to create useful objects for the modern home such as trays and side tables, but with sculptural elements interplaying forms, light and shadow. It was a very strict, almost religious challenge to use only one material and one finish, exercising my design philosophy. I feel this restriction actually became an opportunity to showcase the beauty of the wood, along with the expert mastery of Cassina’s carpentry workshop.” Jaime Hayon.

BASF opens “Wunderkammer“ in Milan In the year of its 150th anniversary, BASF and its consultation center designfabrik® are exhibiting at the Milan Furniture Fair. The exhibition is being held in the old “La Posteria” customs hall in the historic quarter of Brera. In these atmospheric surroundings, BASF, with the support of the design trio DING3000, will be exhibiting materials and projects in a cabinet that will amaze with optical tricks and ideas. With this inspiring installation, BASF’s designfabrik® seeks to build practical associations between the achievements of the age when the company was founded, in 1865, and modern, high-tech materials. Meanwhile, experts will also be on hand to advise customers on suitable material choices and color trends. The exhibition in Milan thus takes up the threads of fabriktag, the successful customer event first hosted by designfabrik at Ludwigshafen in January 2014, for over 100 guests. The BASF “Wunderkammer” The Milan exhibition focuses on the so-called “Wunderkammer”, or “cabinet of curiosity”. In this section, products currently in serial production made using BASF materials and expertise, like the adidas Energy Boost sports shoe or designer chairs by Vitra, Brunner and Interstuhl will be seen in a surprising room installation. Optical illusion here blends objects and visitors into a striking picture puzzle – making a game of magic and illusion of the kind that was typical of 19th-century fairs.

LEXUS – A JOURNEY OF THE SENSES LEXUS TO PRESENT UNIQUE EXPERIENCE AT THE MILAN DESIGN WEEK FROM APRIL 14 TO 19

Since 10 years, Lexus is joining the world’s largest design event, the Salone del Mobile di Milano (Milan Design Week). Through collaborations with world-renowned designers that create unique installations, Lexus aims to express its vision of a true luxury brand and its unique interpretation of design. This year’s exhibit titled “LEXUS – A JOURNEY OF THE SENSES” consists in a journey through three zones designed by the French designer Philippe Nigro. Each zone will awake the five senses in many different ways. Senses are intrinsic to life: they are what allow us to perceive the world. Taking this purposefully broad theme, considering seeing, hearing, feeling, smelling and tasting, we open ourselves up to a wide range of possibilities. This theme is particularly relevant to Lexus, as the whole driving experience is about senses: from seeing the striking exterior design of our cars, to hearing the sound of our finely tuned engines and feeling the sensation of our steering wheel when you round a corner. Everything is engaged. Philippe Nigro said: “When I visited Lexus plants to see how the cars are designed and built, I was greatly impressed by how much care goes into not just the exteriors, but also into the invisible internal details. It was this insight that led me to the ‘Inside-Out’ design concept that enables visitors to experience beauty from every angle.” By revealing things that are normally hidden from view, Lexus will invite visitors to make new discoveries and have new experiences in each of the various zones. LEXUS – A JOURNEY OF THE SENSES will be open to the public from Tuesday, April 14 to Sunday, April 19 from 11 AM to 9 PM at Lexus Spazio – La Torneria, Via Tortona 32, Milan. A press preview will be held on Monday April 13 from 10 AM to 6 PM.

INVITATIONS: SHOWROOMS AND INSTALLATIONS CAESARSTONE PRESENTS: MOVEMENTS BY PHILIPPE MALOUIN AT FUORI SALONE 2015, MILAN

Palazzo Serbelloni, Corso Venezia 16 April 14-18 2015, 10am - 7pm Press preview: Monday, April 13, from 1pm – 5pm February 24, 2015: Caesarstone, the leading manufacturer of premium quartz surfaces, will unveil their latest installation at Milan’s Fuori Salone 2015. Movements, an interactive installation by London-based designer Philippe Malouin, will be on view at the grand palace Palazzo Serbelloni, from the 14th - 18th of April. Movements is a two part installation which examines the unexpected use of Caesarstone surface material and process-based design; experimenting with the inherent characteristics unique to the material and exploring the distinctive designs and textures in the Caesarstone collection. The Palazzo’s grand hall will house an interactive installation made out of an 8-piece swing-set created from the new 2015 surface designs. The installation juxtaposes the splendour of Palazzo Serbelloni with a minimalist, monolithic language investigated by the designer. Typically associated with carefree, childish activity, the swings are here removed from their original playground surroundings and relocated to a historical environment and context. The swings bring an out-of-context element into play and invite visitors to interact with the material and the installation. The adjacent room hosts a handmade group of planters that documents Philippe Malouin’s process of experimentation with Caesarstone’s surface material and technique. Modern and geometric in their design, the collection explores a very different range of techniques, such as traditional inlay and marquetry, as well as the material’s versatility and the wide variety of colours in the Caesarstone collection, including the new 2015 colour designs. For me the starting point was the exploration of the material, as we tend to start most projects. We therefore focused on spending time in the workshop, except, this was not an ordinary workshop, but a fully equipped solid surface transformation facility. Caesarstone is an extremely versatile material that is easy to predict and work with, and it offers a variety of colours and finishes. I therefore experimented with a series of techniques and applications ranging from the mundane to the more experimental. - Philippe Malouin, Designer 62

LASVIT INTRODUCES TEMPLE OF LIGHT AT EUROLUCE 2015 Prague/Milan - At this year´s Euroluce in Milan, LASVIT opens the door of a “Temple of Light”, where unique designs unite with the mastery of glass production. Presenting breathtaking kinetic installation and collections by world-class designers and artists (including the Campana Brothers, Arik Levy, Maxim Velcovsky, Jan Plechac and Henry Wielgus, and Studio deFORM). LASVIT will showcase unique visions of the path of light produced in concert with the masterful artistry of Czech glassmakers.

Candy Collection by the Campana Brothers Lasvit have teamed up with the excellent Brazilian designers and artists, the Campana Brothers. This year’s Milano Euroluce expo will see the premier of their new collection, Candy. “For the Candy collection we wanted to explore the colourful universe of our Sushi series and to express it through a glass collection,” says Fernando Campana. “Our fascination with this material dates back to our childhood. We were completely seduced by the glass objects that we used to put against light to investigate their shadows, colours, transparency, dimensions, and to imagine worlds inside them,” he adds. “We found the inspiration for this collection in the colourful candies that you can buy in popular markets,” explains Humberto. “The brightness of the glass, the collection’s palette of colours, and the visual aspect of the colourful lines make you imagine the piece as a candy, as a lollipop. As for the shape of the chandeliers, it comes from our Sushi IV chair.” “When we first visited the Lasvit glassworks near Novy Bor, we discovered a large number of possibilities to explore. They have a wide range of techniques that drew our attention and touched us,” says Fernando. Humberto completes: “Lasvit are very enthusiastic about new possibilities in manufacturing, so they challenged us to come up with new ideas. Our collaboration was very inspiring. They were looking at exploring new techniques, and we, coming from a country with little tradition in glass, were able to bring a new and fresh vision to this project.”

MEET & EAT: TRIENNALE

TRIENNALE: PANORAMIC TERRACE (NEW - OPENS 8 APRIL 2015) INTERNI: The Milan Triennale has restored its panoramic terrace, an original project that will be offering the public an experience with a view within the museum. This terrace is a further step towards the programme of renewal at the Triennale. Opening this month, and over the next four years, the Milan Triennale’s terrace can be found on the upper level of the Palazzo dell’Arte, with a temporary restaurant (scheduled to open on 13th April) featuring high quality, Michelin starred cuisine, innovation and design. The Terrazza has a sweeping view that overlooks the Parco Sempione, Castello Sforzesco and the new Milan skyline (look out especially to the area of Porta Garibaldi, for a unique perspective of the city!) The forces behind this aspect of the renewal program include Claudio De Albertis, president of the Milan Triennale, Silvana Annicchiarico, director of the Triennale Design Museum and a member of the expert committee of the Milan Triennale for design, Alberto Artioli, who is in charge of the municipal architectural and landscape resources department. The Terrance is presented as a greenhouse immersed in greenery and floriculture, with aspects shaded by a striking tent. The temporary restaurant stands out with it’s warm and elegant atmosphere, offering truly outstanding views of Milan. Access to the terrace is provided by a panoramic elevator that opens into a large outdoor space lined with aromatic wood and foliage, and also includes a small, informal exhibition space that is protected by the existing canopy. The greenhouse terrace is set back and has a slender temporary metal structure that is paced to match the spans of the Palazzo dell’Arte by Giovanni Muzio. The tent shades the slender volume of the greenhouse by day, and illuminates at night with striking visuals that are connected with various themes and events promoted by the Triennale and the Expo.

Ten exemplary purveyors of Italian street food become the Street Urban restaurant of Milan Fuorisalone Milan, 14-19 April 2015 - EAT URBAN FOOD TRUCK FESTIVAL is the first festival entirely devoted to street food during Milan Design Week. Situated in the impressive setting of Via San Vittore 49 which for the occasion will turn the magnificent courtyard into a spacious open air restaurant, it will host some of the best Food Trucks and Ape cars in all of Italy. Open every day during the Fuorisalone from 11 in the morning to 11 at night, and until midnight at the weekend. Open from morning to late at night with evening events in collaboration with WOMADE FACTORY. 10 Ape cars and food trucks offering the best of regional Italian street food will act as a backdrop for the Design collective DOUTDESign2015 dedicated to young designers, makers and innovators in the Food scene with pots on the hob and spinning wheels. Now as never before, food is the focus of the entire world and all the arts. That is why this edition of DOUTDESign 2015 opens its doors to “FOOD innovators”, from street food to design.
