Balance Deep Sky £50

Elsie N

ew for 2019, the Elsie paint is a subtle blend of blue and grey, inspired by the first employee of Harold and Henry a

founding member of Graham & Brown. Crafted to sit alongside the Lagom collection, Elsie presents itself as a smokey oyster tone when used in a large space, when placed alongside

“

crisp whites, the colour appears an elegant blue.

Graham & Brown is a family-run company that has been based in Blackburn for over seventy years. The company heritage is integral to the Graham & Brown design process and company values; we share our history by incorporating these stories into every aspect of the Graham & Brown output. Paint names such as Waddington, India Mill and Pendleton all relate to our geographical location, and 1946 references the date the company was founded.

“

or an inviting contemporary environment, Praline is a pale earthy neutral shade perfect for reflecting light in a bedroom or living space. This shade is perfectly partnered with fourteen exclusive Graham & Brown wallpapers.

Layering different neutral shades is an on-trend way to add a sense of dimension and ensure you avoid colour clashes. This can take the form of a slightly darker shade on a feature wall, or even on the ceiling. Transparent materials can add a soothing and ethereal feel to the room, delicate gauzy textiles will move with the breeze and create the feeling of gentle underwater movement. Natural materials of rattan, wood and weave will add to the relaxed-bohemian look and make the space feel warm and inviting. Metallic accents will bounce light around the room and brighten any dark corners.

Munchkins Nose Resistance Matt Emulsion 2.5L £44

M

unchkin’s Nose is inspired by the button nose of a much-loved rabbit. The dusky pink shade is an update on the fashionable millennial pink that is sophisticated with a hint of romance. Grey pigments ground the

soft blush tone.

There is an exciting duality to this shade, the hue leaves plenty of room for experimentation and toys with notions of masculine and feminine. Using the shade alongside rugged, industrial materials can add an unexpected twist to an otherwise delicate colour scheme. Concrete marble and metal accents can be balanced by this colour and rooms that receive little sunlight will feel warmed.

E

va is a vivid viridian green hue exuding life and lustre. The shade is perfectly partnered with the intricate leaf trail

pattern of Botany Iridescent Midnight Blue wallpaper and the muted lilac of the Safety Pin

“

paint.

A rich foundation such as Eva will allow details and accent colours to feel crisp and defined. The Art Deco trend for example utilises dark outlines to pull forms from soft metallic shades for dramatic impact and a decadent feel. Reference this in your choices of furniture and home accessories with clean outlines and jewel tones highlighted by brass accents and subtle geometric shapes.

Guv’nor G A

uv’nor is a warm burnt suede shade named after Henry Brown’s popular nickname

delicately

(which coincidentally was named after Harold

Graham’s trusty Riley car).

An interiors trend we have seen gathering momentum is painted ceilings and a suede colour spectrum is the perfect palette to experiment with. The neutral hue won’t overpower the other elements of the room but has enough impact to draw the eyes up. Pair with crisp whites and creams to further enhance the feeling of weightlessness in the room.

Lilla Resistance Matt Emulsion 2.5L ÂŁ44

L

illa, a soft pastel shade inspired by delicate woodland florals and responds to differing lights. The colour combines a sanguine base with blue pigments for a fresh daytime hue which gains a warm grey inflection as the sun

begins to set. Lilla is perfectly partnered with the Geo Damask Lilac wallpaper

“

and Glass Heart paint.

As this shade is on the cooler end of the spectrum, walls in this colour respond brilliantly when bathed in bright natural sunlight. Stick to south-facing rooms as these receive the most sunshine. Sunny restful bedrooms, calm living rooms and tranquil kitchens are all great spaces to immerse yourself in this pretty paint colour. If you are using the shade in a north-facing room which receives cooler light, be sure to counteract with warm tones of burnt orange and umber.

A

“

loha is pretty pastel coral shade that can introduce a gentle pop of colour to a room without overpowering the space. Amber and salmon pigments are delicately balanced to perfectly complement the Grace

Coral wallpaper.

Mixing a pastel colour with crisp white or praline tones will evoke a simple modern look. The palette will soften any design so this is the time to experiment with ambitious contrasts and intersecting geometric shapes on your walls. Avoid a fussy finish by teaming walls with elegant textural timbers, clean lines and minimal shapes

T

iru, the Graham & Brown Colour of the Year 2019 is a bold teal tone inspired by the ‘Kabuki’ design theme by Graham &

Brown, the title of which refers to an elaborate form of Japanese dance drama. The ‘Kabuki’ trend represents an oscillation between the serene and the theatrical. In the home it inspires a harmonious balance of flamboyant elements. Tiru creates a luxe yet inviting atmosphere, the shade was selected to complement not only the Wallpaper of the Year 2019: Tori, but also accent colours identified as on trend this current

season.

Using teal on all of the walls in a room can have a brilliantly dramatic effect, but if used untactfully the colour can make a small space feel heavy and oppressive. To open up the room, add metallic elements – whether it is a shimmer effect in the wallpaper or copper home accessories. This will add depth and movement to what would otherwise be a solid block of colour and will make the space seem much larger.

Notte Resistance Matt Emulsion 2.5L ÂŁ44

N

otte is a deep midnight blue shade, perfect for a statement feature wall or as an accent in alcoves and archways. The colour evokes a quiet, confident elegance and sophistication. It is bold and dramatic yet also

inspires contemplation and calm. The rich tone is perfectly partnered with the

“

Quarters Ink wallpaper and thirteen other Graham & Brown wallpaper designs.

Midnight blue can be paired with almost any colour, shades of rust and red are very on trend at the moment and add a warming effect to the colour for the cold winter months. Dark shades on every wall will blur the boundaries of the room and create the illusion of infinite space. Reflective surfaces will bounce light around the room and prevent the space from feeling claustrophobic, gloss paint is another more subtle way to create this effect.

18

Glass Heart Resistance Matt Emulsion 2.5L £44 Antique Vieux Wallpaper £50

G

lass Heart is a contemporary shade of off-white with undertones of pale eggshell blue and coffee brown. The shade is perfectly partnered with over one hundred Graham & Brown wallpaper designs, due to its

versatility.

Glass Heart is wonderfully neutral wall colour, the natural tone can be used on all four walls or as a support for other richer shades. The hue works particularly well with textural charcoal and soft brown shades, accents of terracotta will warm the palette or a contemporary look can be shaped by adding pale pastel tones.
