DESIGN & ARCHITECTURE Yabu Pushelberg Design Offices Toronto

Renowned Toronto-based architecture firm Yabu Pushelberg recently renovated their Toronto headquarters and abolished private offices, opting for an open plan to promote the exchange of ideas and foster a sense of community. USM features prominently in the redesigned space, with rolling storage units at each work station and cabinets on the edges of the rooms utilized as space dividers. The kitchen, designed as a hub for collaboration, features an extensive library created using USM in pure white, which works beautifully with the bright, light open spaces.

ARTS & CULTURE Louis Vuitton Foundation Paris

Designed by renowned architect Frank Gehry, the Louis Vuitton Foundation is dedicated to promoting and supporting contemporary artistic creation. It was completely natural for the Foundation to select USM furniture and storage systems for their offices in the new building. As well as requiring top-quality furniture that would reinforce the Louis Vuitton luxury brand, the offices’ unusual shape, dictated by that of the building, meant that the furniture also had to offer optimum adaptability. USM pure white shelving units were elegantly used to create storage in open areas, meeting rooms, and the reception area, while individual work spaces were furnished in a range of USM Haller tables and furniture systems in bright colors.

FASHION Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) New York

The CFDA’s membership roster reads like a veritable who’s who of the American fashion world, including luminaries such as Ralph Lauren, Donna Karan, and Diane von Furstenberg, among others. The not-forprofit organization was founded in 1962 to support charity related activities and nurture the next generation of style leaders. For their New York office, the CFDA enlisted USM to help create a modern, branded office in the organization’s signature colors while respecting the historic building in which it’s housed. In addition to creating the reception area, USM designed a mix of private offices and shared workspaces, designed room dividers with integrated storage solutions, and furnished flexible meeting spaces for both large and small groups.

MUSEUM Musee d’Orsay Paris

Modern storage units by USM compliment the elegant aesthetics of the world’s most renowned museums, including the Musee d’Orsay in Paris. From modular storage located in the museum’s reception area to flexible workstations in the administrative offices, USM furniture provides this Paris art mecca with design flexibility, modernity, and style. “Here, everything changes all the time,” says Catherine Bony, the museum’s logistics manager. “We have to change the furniture almost daily and, with this system, it only takes a few hours.” The Musee d’Orsay uses USM furniture so frequently that they have an in-house technical department specializing in USM’s modular furniture systems.

CO-WORKING Factory Berlin

Though the concept of “co-working spaces” didn’t exist when the USM Haller System was first created, the adaptability of the design makes it perfectly suited for today’s communal workplaces, as shown here at Factory in Berlin and Werkspace in Switzerland. USM’s flexible storage solutions help to divide space and maintain an element of privacy while allowing freelancers, start-up founders, and traditional artisans to work side-by-side.
