Hockey Year-round! In the past decade, hockey has increasingly become a year-round sport. Camrose players of all ages have been at a distinct disadvantage compared to those from other communities when it comes to skills development. Two factors come into play – the cost and lack of local ice several months each year. Necessity, it has been said, is the mother of invention and the Camrose Kodiaks Junior A hockey team has come up with an alternate viable, solution to assist in high-tempo training of aspiring hockey players of all ages, regardless of skill level. Along with the generous assistance of former Kodiaks players who have gone on to play in the NHL, the Kodiaks have built an incredible off-ice training facility in the former location of Battle River Hockey Plus. It is located on 48th Avenue behind Royal LePage. Two skating treadmills are located in the facility. The unique and impressive half-million dollar undertaking has synthetic ice surfaces where players on skates are able to perfect their shooting, stick handling, passing and face-offs. An open house is being planned for the near future to allow anyone interested the opportunity to watch skating on artificial ice.
