Students of Bawlf School greatly assisted The Camrose Booster graphics art department this week by using their imagination, talent and artistic ability in preparing suitable artwork for ads in this edition. Due to the impressive volume of art supplied by the students, not all drawings were able to be used. Everyone at The Home Team Paper hopes the entire content of this issue brings you pleasure. We offer our blessings this Christmas season. May the gifts of peace, love and joy surround you and yours during the holidays and throughout 2017. The drawing above, prepared by Grade 10 student Katelyn Tomaszewski (left) is indicative of the talent behind this student initiative. And who can’t relate to a Snoopy, Woodstock and Charlie Brown Christmas?

REFLECTIONS by Bonnie Hutchinson Holiday preferences
“I wish it would snow,” the lady in the elevator said. “I love when everything is covered with snow and it’s beautiful. It feels Christmassy.” We all have our favourite things in this season. ***
In the past few days, I have been appreciating the amazing number of ways that friends and family members are celebrating this holiday season. Some are doing traditional things–precious time with family and friends, special holiday food, parties, gift exchanges, Christmas music (live and recorded). Some friends are travelling to exotic locations and spending Christmas in the tropics. Some are going to a ski or golf resort. Jewish friends are celebrating Hanukkah (which this year begins Dec. 24 and ends Jan. 1) with traditional rituals of lighting the menorah and reading blessings each evening. One family’s three-generation celebrations will include four menorahs. Much light indeed!
Letters to the Editor Letters are welcomed but please limit them to 400 words or less and sign with first name, initial, surname, address and phone number; only name of writer and city or town will be printed. Letters to third parties are not accepted. The Camrose Booster may edit for clarity, legality, personal abuse, good taste, public interest and availability of space. The Camrose Booster thanks you for your interest in the letters page and encourages your comments. Community support
Next year, 2017 prom-
ises to be an exciting year at the Camrose and District Centennial Museum—we celebrate 50 years of collecting, storing, restoring and sharing our community history. With this substantial anniversary looming, I would like to express my appreciation to the Camrose Booster for their generous support given to the museum and to other local organizations. It takes just a phone call, or email to mobilize an interview and have a wonderfully crafted article written about upcoming events. Being fea-
tured on the Booster front page is an incredible way to get noticed. Each is artistic, informative and completely dedicated to helping local events be successful. There is no better way is to connect with residents. Thanks, Ron Pilger, for creating unique photo ops and for pulling details together into short, precise descriptions. Merry Christmas to everyone at the Booster and thank you for another year of dedication.
Janine Carroll, museum coordinator Camrose and District Centennial Museum

Traditions change as families change. One friend is–for the first time in her life–not having Christmas day with her children (and now grandchildren). The family gathering was last weekend. She’s delighted that all her children and grandchildren could be together, no matter what the day. She’s also curious how that’s going to feel on Christmas morning. I know several people who have lost family members during the past year, and feel the loss more keenly during this season. One family, whose husband/ father/grandfather died during the past year, decided to change all the family’s Christmas customs and go to the mountains. ***
Family or no family, not everyone enjoys traditional ways of celebrating the holiday. One of my favourite people is “getting the family stuff out of the way Christmas Eve” and looking forward to several days alone with books and a fridge full of wonderful grazing food. Another (who lives in New York and has no close family) is planning to spend Christmas day with a colleague creating a brand new revenue stream – which she and her colleague think will be much more fun than traditional Christmas activities!
SUICIDE PREVENTION
Murray Green, Camrose Booster The Camrose and Area Youth Risk Awareness Network (CAYRAN) received a generous $1,625 donation from the Camrose Buffaloes Football team to specifically be used for suicide prevention initiatives. Rejeanne Matson, left, Dwayne Schmidt and Melissa Smith from the Camrose Buffaloes made the presentation on Dec. 7 at the Camrose Fire Hall with the CAYRAN board on hand. The Buffaloes held a suicide awareness initiative during football games last fall.
***
I’m most looking forward to time with family, and also intend, on at least one day, to sleep in and spend the rest of the day grazing on leftovers and reading fiction. I find this year I’m remembering cherished moments from the past. I’m cherishing memories of Christmas trees too big for the space but nobody cared, cherished gifts and funny gifts, skulduggery and sneaking to keep gifts a secret, laughter and whimsy. I’m even cherishing memories of 2 a.m. early Christmas morning reading the dreaded words, “Some assembly required.” (It’s funny now.) Over the years, as families and circumstances have changed, I’ve noticed I have changed too. There was a time when I couldn’t imagine not having a Christmas tree or not exchanging Christmas gifts with every family member or not spending Christmas day with family. Now I’ve had all three experiences and realize that rituals and traditions can mean whatever we want them to mean. What really matters is the essence of the tradition. We can create new ways to honour the intention of our traditions. ***
I love hearing stories of how people honour their preferences and create experiences that are perfect for them. My wish for you is that whatever your holiday beliefs and traditions are, and whatever form your holiday takes, the next week intensifies the love, joy, abundance and gratitude in your life. *** If you have comments about this column or suggestions for future topics, send a note to Bonnie@BonnieHutchinson.com

Camrose Police Service received a complaint that two youth were throwing eggs at a residence in the Duggan Park neighbourhood. There have been numerous complaints of the same youths causing issues around the area. Police are attempting to identify these youths. Police mediated a property dispute between a woman and her boyfriend. Both parties were spoken to and agreed to cooperate with each other. A 911 call was received reporting two people fighting inside of a residence. A 59-year-old woman and a 25-year-old man were having an argument inside of the home. Police mediated the situation and the man agreed to leave the residence for the day.

MOVIE NIGHT
Murray Green, Camrose Booster Camrose Fountain Tire downtown owner Randy McCrea, left, and Wayne Baxter, right, presented Camrose Women’s Shelter executive director Nora-Lee Rear with $1,500 raised and matched from Fountain Tire’s 60th anniversary movie night. Missing is east end Fountain Tire owner Jason Fleck.
The holiday season carries with it a diverse amount of belief and meaning from the birth of Chirst to the deed of giving, from time tested tradition to making new memories. Whatever symbol a person may place on this special time of year, there tends to be an underlying understanding of hopes and wishes. For small children wishes were whispered into Santa’s ear. For older children wishes can be, not so subtly, spoken out loud. But as we grow older and maybe wiser, those wishes, more often than not become far more purposeful. Wishes for health, happiness, prosperity, more time, faith and hope. Wishes for togetherness with family and friends to share in the joy of the future. People within our own community shared their unspoken wishes. Bill Harder was hopeful in his wish. “My unspoken wish for the year ahead is that we, as Canadians, would have patience with each other as we sort through uncertain political and economic times.” Finn Olesen expressed his sentiment. “What I would wish for is, firstly, health and happiness for our family and everyone else. Secondly that all people in the world would get along and share a cup of coffee and appreciate how beautiful the world really is.” Unspoken wishes often reflect our heart’s desires. “My unspoken wish for the new year is I wished that I believed in myself more and made the changes that I really want,” admitted Jenn Stone. “I wish to cleanse my house, my mind and my heart. These are
really what I want and not just great posts on Facebook. Bring it on 2017!” Cherilyn Sharkey added. “Every year my wish is the same - my family and friends stay happy and healthy. Everything else will work itself out.” Debbie Hillaby reminisced about her unspoken wish. “I wish I had more holiday memories of my parents who passed away when I was very young.”
Many times unspoken wishes are those that benefit others or society as a whole. “I wish “the global we” would regain the unconditional love and warmth for each other that we once had as babies, but lost as we matured, grew up and ventured into the world on our own to put our own stamp of individuality on anything and everything we touched. We’re all in this human race together... let’s hold hands and face each challenge together to help us all cross the finish line all in one piece...life is hard enough without someone else holding you back,” said Dan Macpherson.
Sharon Anderson’s wish demonstrated a sense of betterment for the greater whole. “Stronger together...embrace healthy competition to thrive and grow our business community.” Jillian Wideman-Lyon said “My wish for 2016 would be for people to see and value the unique strengths and beauty each person possesses.” Kristy Smith commented. “My unspoken wish would be that all parents would be sure to enjoy meals together with their children that are without devices, or tv’s, or any sort of distraction. I’d wish that they would truly remember how special their most important gifts are, their children.” Even though unspoken wishes are in our thoughts more during the Christmas season they really are timeless. “My unspoken wish is that the magic of Christmas that you see with the twinkle in a little child’s eyes...lasts for as long as it possibly can. That the wondrous belief in Santa and elves goes on. The excitement they have for Christmas and seeing their relatives is pure and special,” said PJ Stasko, realizing that wishes change with different stages and eras of our lives. “That everyone gets the opportunity to enjoy and spend time with their family, friends, and loved ones this holiday season. That is the best gift in life and to me, brings the most happiness and joy. It is what Christmas is all about,” commented Tatiana Harpe. Perhaps in uncertain economic times and during an era where commercialism is so prevalent more unspoken wishes need to be given a voice.

Celebrate New Year with Kirby Sewell Band By Murray Green
Mix the sounds of Alberta’s Kirby Sewell Band with New Year’s Eve at the Bailey Theatre and you have the perfect party to ring in 2017. The Bailey Theatre is hosting a New Year’s Eve bash on Dec. 31 starting at 7 p.m. to blend a good band together with the great food. It will be an evening with dinner and a show. The Bailey Theatre is delighted to have set the stage for this event. “Kirby Sewell and band have established a local following and are very excited to make a return trip to Camrose,” said Bailey Theatre director. Celebrate Rose City Farmers’ Market New Year with Kirby Final Market 1 to 8 p.m. Sewell before Christmas to getFinalwhatchance you need Band before Christmas! December 22, Continued from page 10
Sewell was voted the best Canadian blues vocalist of the year and he is backed by his fivepiece band to belt out the blues, rock, county and soul tunes. They are known for their passionate live performances, which are energetic and thought provoking. Their arrangements are described as playing against the grain. Sewell, 6’6”, was born to belt out tunes like the great gospel soul singers of the past. Backed by producer/ guitarist Neil Gunhold, lead guitarist Morgan Turk, drummer Jim Johnston and bassist Jae Cho they complement Sewell’s voice. It is an electrifying Canadian blues rock experience with modern interpretations, heart pulling stories that come from the depths of an old soul, while breathing new musical life into a genre. They are promoting the album Girl With a New Tattoo, with their infectious brand and indelibly mark everyone who listens. “Kirby and I met three years ago at a Rose City Roots concert at the Bailey, and still keep in contact,” said Jenni Routhier, co-owner of Stockmen’s Chophouse. The beautiful historic Bailey Theatre in downtown Camrose provides the perfect ambience to make the evening a special one to remember. Included in the ticket price will be a chance to win Wine for a Year, which includes a bottle of premium wine every month provided by Stockmen’s Chophouse. Draws will be made for Kirby Sewell signed CDs. Music starts at about 9 p.m. Tickets are available online at www.baileytheatre. com/tickets, at the Bailey Box Office 5041-50 Street from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 3 to 5 p.m. or by phoning 780-672-5510.

Eagles soar over Kodiaks after bears double Canucks By Murray Green
The Canmore Eagles scored twice before Joe Tambasco of the Camrose Kodiaks cut the lead in half in the first period on Dec. 13. The Eagles soared at a steady pace for the rest of the 4-1 contest. Camrose fought tooth and nail in a 4-2 victory over the Calgary Canucks three nights earlier. But the once ferocious bears didn’t have
the same fight against the gliding Eagles. The Kodiaks are one multigame winning streak away from making a move in the southern division standings. Winning against stronger opponents offers endless hope until a loss against a weaker opponent crushes it. Camrose pounded the Eagles with 20 shots in the third period, but it was too late
to bring the team back into the game. Goalie Patrick Gora stopped 33 of 37 shots. Camrose directed 36 shots at the Eagles’ net. The Kodiaks jumped on the Canucks early and skated to a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes. Mackenzie Bauer connected with help from Tambasco and Josh Zablocki. Camrose scored twice in the middle frame with a Calgary tally sandwiched in
between. Nic Correale and Bauer notched the markers. Although the Canucks scored in the third, Jack Thomas put the game out of reach late in the contest. Gora stopped 32 of 34 shots, while Camrose recorded 24 shots. Alex Mowbray and Ryan Hartman each scored twice to lead the Kodiaks to a 5-3 victory over the Spruce Grove Saints on Dec. 9. Bauer added a single marker.
The Camrose Kodiaks added forward Tate Coughlin to the organization. He played the past two years with the Kelowna Rockets of the Western Hockey League. Devan Reed also joined the organization. He is known as a tenacious player with character and grit to the forwards. The Whitecourt Wolverines will be the first AJHL team to play in Camrose in 2017 on Friday, Jan. 13.

Trump, the rise of US populism
In the wake of the American election and Trump’s victory, I have heard a full range of reactions expressed–everything from vindication for the average guy to people made physically ill by the thought of Trump as President of the United States. I have strong political convictions and beliefs; however, as a political scientist, as I watched the results coming in on election night, I quickly switched on Shauna Wilton, Political my more analytical side. For Studies, Augustana someone who studies politics, Campus, University this result is fascinating and of Alberta raises some important questions for us as citizens (and not just citizens of the US). First, once again, the opinion polls had it all wrong. Nobody, including me, thought that Trump was going to win. The attempt to treat human behaviour as something that can be predicted through scientific study and mathematical formulas again failed to predict the outcome. I think this is interesting because of the faith we as a society continue to place in numbers and easy interpretations of both those numbers and complex political information. Over 60 million Americans voted for Trump to become president: only slightly less than those who voted for Clinton (but the reasons behind that are another column). What we saw was a massive push from mostly working-class, average Joe’s against what they perceive (perhaps accurately) as an increasingly elite and corrupt political system. In this context, Clinton was probably one of the worst choices to run against Trump because she epitomized in many ways the economic and political elite of the United States that he challenged. Second, although Trump’s election is perhaps the most extreme success story for populist leaders, the rise of populism–particularly populism that is grounded in anti-immigrant, anti-feminist, anti-‘socialist’ sentiments–is something that we are witnessing throughout the western world. We can see this in the (again wrongly-predicted) UK referendum on leaving the EU, and in the fact that radical right wing parties are sitting in more European parliaments in greater numbers (including in the European Union itself). Even in reasonable, equality-oriented Sweden, the extreme far right party the Sweden Democrats won 13 per cent of the seats in the 2014 election and currently has almost 25 per cent of popular support in the country. France’s National Front Party is experiencing a similar rise in popularity. Dare I even suggest that we see a similar trend in Canada with politicians such as Jason Kenney, or the Wild Rose Party? As much as some may want to just dismiss these groups, and Trump, as backward, ridiculous, ignorant, etc., what they are saying is obviously resonating with a whole lot of people and, as such, we all need to take it seriously. To be clear, I am not saying that the populist ranks are correct in their message or beliefs, but we need to take on the challenge of dealing with these issues in society. We need to enter into a broad dialogue about the economy and immigration and equality and as I am always saying to my students–it isn’t a dialogue if neither side is listening or willing to change its position. The American election campaign is an excellent example of this principle. Finally, as frightening as the idea of Trump as President is to many, there have been many bad Presidents and Prime Ministers throughout history. The U.S. political system is built on a foundation of mistrust in authority. As such, there are serious checks on the power of the president. Yes, in a worst-case scenario, Trump could theoretically abandon the U.S. constitution and the principle of separation of powers, but I don’t think this will be his first move. As we saw with Obama and health care, it can be incredibly difficult for a president to get Congress to do his bidding. Not only can a president not introduce his own legislation, he also cannot force his party to vote for it. Both the best thing and the worst thing about democracy is that it is the rule of the people. We are bound by what the people decide (or who they vote for), even when we think it was a really bad decision. This is why it is so important to have checks and balances built into a political system so that one individual cannot have too much power. This is also why we need to ensure that the political representatives accurately reflect the inputs of citizens and remain responsive to the will of the people.

Stuff an ambulance great success By Lori Larsen The Camrose EMS Stuff an Ambulance 10th anniversary was a big success and organizers EMS Tom Layton and Pete Jensen couldn’t be happier. “We received $5,300 in cash alone,” said Jensen.
“Not to mention an ambulance filled with food and other items. “People would drive by and hand us cash or cheques and we would stuff it in one of our empty, spare “Sharps” containers(something that began out of necessity during
one of the first events and has turned into a tradition).” The event that took place on Dec. 10 started out a little sluggish as the outside temperatures plummeted, but as the day went on the cold didn’t chill the hearts of Camrosians.
Lori Larsen, Camrose Booster Camrose EMS members along with other volunteers braved extremely cold temperatures for the Stuff an Ambulance event held on Dec. 10. A blessed holiday By Lori Larsen Some might believe in the saying “In the right place at the right time. While others may believe in divine intervention, but whatever your belief a power greater than all of us was looking over one very fortunate Wetaskiwin woman, Linda Chandler. On Dec. 12, while plowing out a road in a remote location east of Wetaskiwin to get access to a downed grain field for moving in some cattle, Cliff Drever, and Ryan Mowat from Camrose area and Tony Kitto from Hardisty happened upon a vehicle that appeared to have been stuck and not moved for quite a while. “We went to the end of the road and then another half a mile across to get to the field where we were going to unload the cattle and saw a car that looked like it had been there a long time. There were no tracks or anything, recalled Drever. “I got out and walked up to the car and saw there was a lady sitting inside. According to Drever the woman had been sitting in the stuck vehicle for close to a day and a half. “She was disoriented. She didn’t know where she had been or where she was going. She had a dog blanket over her and was wearing a toque and mitts, but she was pretty frail and rather distraught. Her car would still run, but the gas gauge was on empty. With the temperatures

dipping to a chilling -17C with a wind chill of -28C, leaving her vehicle could have been tragic. The three men pulled the vehicle out with the tractor and drove Chandler along with her vehicle to the Mowat’s farm. Once there the police and ambulance were contacted and arrived, then took her to Covenant Health St. Mary’s Hospital Camrose, where she was later released. Chandler had been reported missing by her family on Dec. 11. Several RCMP members, including air services, had been dis-
patched and were searching for her. Drever remarked that it may have been spring before anyone would have gone to the location where they found the woman, but for some reason, perhaps one no-one will ever be able to explain, those cattle were meant to be moved to that field that day. “Why we did it that day we don’t know, said Drever. “But somebody was looking out for her. This is one Christmas holiday that, thanks to three wise men, will be far more joyous for one Wetaskiwin family.

As a one term member of Sangkor at Augustana and a visitor to your country, I wish to acknowledge the other members of the women’s choir and thank them for their warm welcome and acceptance of me. It was fun from start to finish. On the first night, officers were elected and I knew I had come to the right place when the first item put on the agenda by the newly elected president was the organizing of the food we would eat during the evening break. The musical director and a total live-wire, Dr John Wiebe, is a most informed musician and he gladly shared his knowledge and experience with us all. The weekly two hour rehearsals just sped by, I wish I could have retained all of the information and tips he gave so generously. The next Sangkor term starts in early January so if you want to have lots of fun, meet lots of interesting women and learn new songs taught by a great tutor, why not join them? The recent “A Winter’s Night” concerts held in the Augustana Chapel, were a joy to be part. Thank you, Sangkor. Ngaire Fletcher, New Zealand Idling vehicles
As I walked around Camrose the last couple of days I wondered why the politicians are worried about global warming and greenhouse gas emissions. The average citizen certainly isn’t. Everywhere I look, whether it be curb side or parking lot, vehicles are idling with nobody in them. It’s too bad the police can’t dedicate one vehicle to go around and slap huge tickets on these people. This is Alberta in the winter, if you can’t stand the cold, move. John Parry, Camrose
Kenneth “Ken” Edward Wold Kenneth was born on January 6, 1938 in Donalda, Alberta to Walter and Agnes Wold. He was the eldest of three boys, followed by David and Ralph. Kenneth was baptized on April 16, 1938 and was confirmed at the Messiah Lutheran Church in Camrose. His heart’s desire was for his friends and family to know Jesus. He loved the Lord and displayed remarkable faith throughout his life. Kenneth attended school in Norbo, Horicon, Sifton and Camrose Lutheran College. Kenneth married the love of his life, Sylvia Ephe Lorraine Schiele, on April 22, 1959 at the Ferry Point Lutheran Church. Together, they started their farming adventure in the Meeting Creek area. Kenneth worked tirelessly throughout his life on the farm; however, he believed that he never worked a day in his life because he did what he was so passionate about. Kenneth and Sylvia raised one son, Barry, and three daughters, Karen, Wendy, and Leann, loving each one unconditionally. He had ten grandchildren and six great grandchildren, who were his pride and joy. He was happiest surrounded by his family, and had a special place in his heart for his beloved cows and two dogs, Ruger and Oreo. Kenneth had a real love for life and touched the lives of many up to his passing. This is evident through his consistent willingness to lend a hand to others in need, and his ability to make lively conversation with anyone he met. Kenneth lived his life with a purpose to serve others. He volunteered at his local churches, Ferry Point and then Bethany Lutheran, for many years. During that time, he served many essential roles within the church body. He was also involved with Battle River Gas, REA, and served on the executive board of CP Rail. Even though Kenneth maintained many positions and responsibilities within the community, he always enjoyed the simple things that life on the farm provided. He enjoyed learning through reading, television, and his grandchildren. Before Google and spell check, there was Dad. He loved to travel, whether it was to another country or another auction. He couldn’t resist a good deal! Kenneth had a carefree spirit, and frequently found himself in compromising situations without worrying about the consequences. His answer to these situations was his hearty, contagious laugh that remains with us today. Kenneth moved to Faith House in Camrose on July 17, 2013, after the passing of Sylvia. Later, he was transferred to Lilac Cottage in Louise Jensen to receive more specialized care. The residents and special care providers of Lilac Cottage became an extended family not only to Ken, but to his immediate family as well. Kenneth passed away peacefully with his daughters at his side on December 16, 2016 at the age of 78. Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Karen (Bob) Mingo, Wendy (Brian) Reinke, Leann (Calvin) Lehman; daughter-in-law Brenda Wold; 10 grandchildren: Ashley (Dale) Martin, Jefferey Mingo, Justin Reinke, Shaconna Reinke, Larissa Lehman, Riley Lehman, Bradley (Courtney) Wold, Darcy (Emily) Wold, Jamie (Katrina) Wold and Stefanie Wold; six great-grandchildren: Chase Martin, Ryder Martin, Mackenzie Wold, Sierra Wold, Owen Wold and Isabell Wold; brothers David and Ralph (Rita) Wold; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Kenneth was predeceased by his wife, Sylvia; and son, Barry. Kenneth will be greatly missed, but he is rejoicing in the presence of his Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. A funeral service will be held on Thursday December 29, 2016 at 11:00 am from Messiah Lutheran Church with Pastors Harold Rust, David Eriksson and Dean Rostad officiating. Interment to follow in the Ferry Point Cemetery (North of Donalda). Memorial contributions are greatfully accepted to C.L.B.I., Ferry Point Cemetery Fund or Bethany Donalda Church. who passed away on December 19, 2015 Loving Memories of a Special Son To lose someone so special Is really hard to bear, It hardly seems believable That you’re no longer there. You left us far too early Before your time, it seems, And now you’ll never have the chance To fulfill all those dreams. However hard it is, though, We’ll take comfort in the thought Of all the memories we have And the happiness you brought. You always lived life to the full, But ours won’t be the same Until the day when we can see Your smiling face again. Love Mom, Dad and Wyatt

March 3, 1936 ~ December 13, 2016 Gertrude Caroline Fleck was born on March 3, 1936 and passed away on Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at the age of 80. She was one of seven children born to Jacob and Katharina Raab, and grew up in the Provost area. As a young woman, she moved to Camrose where she trained and worked as a nurse’s aide. She met Harvey Pederson and they were married in 1959. They engaged in mixed farming and in their four short years of marriage, they had three children – Joan, Janice and Brent. Harvey met with a fatal hunting accident in 1963. In 1969, Gertie married Donald Fleck and they moved the family to Calgary. A year later, they welcomed another daughter, Terra, to the family. Gertie stayed at home to raise the children and later worked part-time as a waitress for fifteen years. In 1991, they retired and moved to an acreage in the Camrose area. In 1998, Donald passed away. Gertie moved into Camrose and got a little puppy she called Maggie. Gertie was so happy with this little companion and they developed a very special bond for almost fifteen years. Gertie found happiness with her family and her Maggie. She loved music and dancing, bowling with the Ol’ Crocs, and time with her family and friends. Gertie was predeceased by her husbands Harvey and Donald; her parents; and her brothers Tony and Ted. She leaves to cherish her memory: her children Joan (Jack), Janice (Jason), Brent (Emma) and Terra; her grandchildren Ryan (Jaycee), Stephanie, Paul (Erin), Shannon, Brian, Kyle and Connor; and her great-grandchildren Layne, Jude and Chase. Gertie also leaves to mourn four sisters, including her close sister Loretta (Norbert); along with many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. Blessed be her memory. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 19, 2016 from St. Francis Xavier Roman Catholic Church with Rev. Larry Pederson as celebrant. Interment will take place in Valleyview Cemetery, Camrose. Great programming at the Jeanne and Peter Lougheed Performing Arts Centre is made possible by the many volunteers who put in valuable time in the facility throughout the year. On Dec. 8, the Lougheed Centre held an appreciation night for the dedicated volunteers. “It wouldn’t be feasible, or even possible. Your service is simply amazing. Your hospitality that you offer to the people who come here keeps them coming back, so thank you all very much. We are so grateful and so pleased,” said University of Alberta Augustana dean Allen Berger. “Dean Berger talked about the amazement.
I want to talk about the excitement. At the Chamber meeting Nick (Nick Beach, general manager of the Lougheed Centre) and Tanya (Tanya Pattullo, patron services manager) passed out brochures about upcoming events, not only at the Lougheed Centre, but at the Bailey Theatre. The dream of what arts and culture could become, when the performing arts centre was thought of, was that these facilities could bookend each other. One near the end of Main Street and the other at the campus and what that could do for the arts and culture community in Camrose It includes all of the churches and arts centre in between,” said city councillor Bill Sears, who is also
on the board of governors at the Lougheed Centre. “That is exactly what we see happening. It is not one theatre taking away from another, but complimenting everything that is happening in the city,” added Sears. Volunteers bring that same excitement to the Lougheed Centre when greeting everyone. Five people put in more than 245 volunteers hours said Beach as he celebrated volunteers with 50 or more hours volunteered. June Reimer with 246, Gary Taylor with 258, Gary Smith with 318, Alan Heyhurst with 328 and Theo Thirsk with 348 hours were honoured for volunteering the most.

Submitted Photos District Fish and Wildlife Officer Lorne Rinkel carefully handles the Great Horned owl after it was removed from the front grille of Jennifer Thomas’s vehicle. The bird suffered no apparent injuries and was returned to the wild.
Sharing our city with beautiful wild creatures can sometimes create extraordinary situations. Jennifer Thomas, a teacher at Camrose Composite High School, knew something was amiss when she felt a thump on the front of her vehicle, while driving between Bawlf and Ohaton on Dec. 13. After safely pulling over to the side of the highway, she soon discovered her vehicle and a great horned owl were involved in a collision and the bird was lodged inside the front grille of her car. “I thought the bird was dead,” said Thomas. Rather than risk extracting the bird on the highway Thomas continued to Camrose. Once at CCHS, she checked the bird again and it appeared to have not survived the impact. “But when I returned to my vehicle at noon the owl was helplessly staring out at me,” said Thomas.
She immediately telephoned the Report a Poacher line to report the incident and the vehicle was taken into the high school automotive shop. Under the watchful eye of District Fish and Wildlife Officer Lorne Rinkel and a room full of curious, and equally concerned students and teachers the grille was carefully cut and the owl was safely dislodged. “We cut some of the grille out and I was able to remove
The owl was a bit dazed and confused, but uninjured
the owl, which appeared relatively uninjured,” said officer Rinkel. Rinkel, took the bird into care and after close examination and determining there were no injuries to speak of, returned it to it’s natural habitat. “I released the owl last night. He flew away into a full moon night and never looked back. Amazing,” remarked Rinkel.

Stride began the presentation by having attendees network with others at the luncheon and exchange business cards. “Have your networking tools(business cards) with you at all times,” said Stride. “Set a goal for the number of people you want to meet and plan how many contacts you want to get (usually about five) by the amount of time you have to follow up.” Stride also suggested to act like a host, not a guest, and make a point of meeting and engaging people who may seem quiet or standing away from the crowd. “Listen and ask questions and use their names,” recommended Stride. “And don’t try to close a deal. Networking is not about selling; it is about connections.” Stride proposed getting referrals whenever possible and try to connect people. “Be that person that everybody knows. “Exchange business cards and always ask people for their card.” She noted that it is also important to be aware of cultural ways of handing out cards and to not write on others’ cards unless they give you permission. “Manage your time efficiently and meet at least a couple of people you have not met before spending time to get to know people.” To conclude Stride indicated the most important tip to remember was to follow up. BNI Alberta North operates around the world with over 205,000 members that meet weekly for the opportunity to learn about each others business. They work with 17 different Chambers in northern Alberta. Recently BNI started two chapters in Camrose and at present have 29 members. Hunting at night charges laid Submitted
On the Remembrance Day long weekend Camrose Fish and Wildlife investigated five different unlawfully killed moose files. Charges have been laid and investigations continue. On Nov. 25 to 27, Fish and Wildlife partnered with the RCMP aviation unit and several other officers. Using the RCMP tactical helicopter, sweeping night hunting
patrols were conducted. Six persons were arrested for night hunting between the hours of midnight and 4 a.m. The accused persons face numerous other charges including dangerous use of firearms, loaded firearms in vehicles, harass/chase wildlife and liquor offences. Fish and Wildlife attended to several “shot and left” animals. Evidence was gathered and investigations will contin-
ue. Also, several hunters were charged for trespassing and hunting on occupied land. Land owners continue to express their disdain for hunters trespassing and road hunting and are concerned about the spread of club root disease between fields. Hunters are reminded that permission must be obtained prior to hunting on any private land.

The home of Reg and Roxanne Zimmer located at 6603-33 Avenue
As the Royal LePage/Camrose Booster judging team weaved through the residential streets of Camrose on the evening of Thursday, December 15, in search of the best decorated home for Christmas, one thing really stood out – the level of effort put into the task. Whether it was the 22 addresses submitted to the contest, or the homes that stood out while moving along the official judging route, it was clear that homeowners, in great numbers, dressed up the City for Christmas. Great job, Camrosians! And, dress it up you did, in fine fashion indeed. The imagination, color coordination and the splendor left our judges in awe. On certain homes, it was Santa on the rooftop that first caught our collective attention. At other places, it was Santa’s misfortune that stood out as we spotted a variety of overturned sleighs with Santa in his finery hanging precariously from a chimney or eavestrough. An impressive number of decorators-extraordinaire chose to keep Christ in Christmas with remarkable nativity seasons. Nicely done! We found that today’s modern and brilliant LED lights, giant inflatables, complex, mass-produced décore items and delightful teardrop lighting have revolutionized outdoor decorating. Combined with imagination and creativity, it makes for a City that
is warmly and brightly lit, even on the coldest of winter nights. Yet we cherished the opportunity to find several homes which still come alive for Christmas with decades-old painted Christmas scenes on plywood, lit by traditional spotlights. A treat in itself! This year’s winning home: The home is a bit of a departure from homes chosen as best decorated in recent years. The home, owned and decorated by Reg and Roxanne Zimmer is located at 6603-33 Avenue. While previous winning homes have typically featured highly complex decorating designs, this home was chosen for decorating that was deemed spectacular and elegant, yet relatively simple. The color scheme rated extremely high marks. The lights which outline the design of the home are arranged with obvious extreme care. You might call it perfect – our judging panel most certainly did! Drive by this home – we believe you will be most impressed. We feel it’s a home that could grace the cover of a big city magazine. Yet, it’s also a home that happily screams out “Merry Christmas” to friends and neighbours. We thank the Zimmer family for their time and talent and for making our community brighter. The Camrose Booster has awarded our winners $100 to be put toward their December power bill. Royal LePage Rose Country Realty has donated $200, on behalf of the Zimmer family to The Open Door, their favourite charity.

CELEBRATING 20 YEARS AS YOUR REMOTE STARTER SPECIALISTS!
Make driving after dark safe YOU WANT them TO BE safe. Submitted
Traffic accidents can occur at any time of day. But while many drivers are comfortable driving during daylight hours, that comfort level drops considerably when the sun goes down and driver visibility is reduced. According to a 2016 analysis of data, about 43 per cent of motor vehicle crash deaths in 2014 occurred between the hours of 6 p.m. and 3 a.m. While various factors contributed to those deaths, poor visibility was certainly among them, as many drivers simply don’t see as well when driving at night as they do when driving during the day. Some motorists who are uncomfortable driving at night avoid the roads altogether once the sun goes down. But that’s not an option for the millions of drivers across the globe who must drive at night for personal or professional reasons. Remaining alert at all times and obeying traffic laws are great ways to stay safe when driving at night, and the following are some additional strategies that can help motorists
make nighttime driving more safe. Test your headlights. Many drivers go years without inspecting or replacing their headlights or headlight bulbs. Conduct routine inspections of headlights and turn them on at night to determine where the lights are pointing. Drivers of older vehicles with plastic lens covers may notice the covers have become cloudy or yellow. Such covers should be polished or replaced. If light from the headlights is being aimed too low or unevenly, adjust their aim on your own or ask your mechanic to do so. Adjust your interior lighting. Dashboard lighting can sometimes affect driver visibility if the light is too bright. When vehicle dashboard lighting is too bright, the resulting reflection can affect and distract drivers’ eyes, compromising their ability to see the road. Dim dashboard lighting to a level that does not adversely affect your ability to see the road at night, and do the same with GPS systems if they are reflecting too brightly as well. Don’t allow smoking inside your vehicle.
WE DO TOO.
We all want what’s best for our kids. Enroll your teen in our New Driver Program and you can rest easy knowing they’ll learn to be safe, confident drivers. We’ll look after them like they were our own.

Plan ahead By Lori Larsen
Festivities and parties are all part of enjoying the holiday season. Getting together with family and friends may include partaking in a few cocktails, but ensure the joy is everlasting by making a plan to arrive home safely. Camrose Police Service (CPS)Constable Adam Belanger reminds residents that the month of December is Impaired Driving Month and that the police service are out in the community conducting checkstops in an effort to keep our community safer. “We will be out there,” said Belanger. “The weather is not going to keep us in, this is the season of Christmas parties and people want to be out and enjoying the festive part of the year.” Const. Belanger appreciates that many residents will be enjoying the season with alcohol but wants to stress that impaired driving is not only illegal but very dangerous especially coupled with possible treacherous road conditions. “We have two ways of doing checkstops,” said Belanger. “One is a high profile checkstop, where, for example, we are parked outside of Panago Pizza on 48th in the wide open. “Our (CPS) goal (with high profile checkstops) is reminding the public we are out and looking for impaired driving. We do these checkstops earlier in the day because we are not necessarily trying to catch people we are trying to remind people make good choices. Most importantly have a plan for a ride home. “Take a cab, call a friend, have someone (who has not been drinking) pick you up or have a sober driver with you. Belanger added that sometimes people intend on not drinking or only having one drink and that changes for one reason or another. “If plans change and you end up staying longer or drinking more and you are worried about it, always err on the side of caution and get an alternate ride home, do not drive.” Later in the evening the mode of the checkstops changes from high visibility as a reminder to more surprise enforcementbased checkstops. “Our checkstop locations change,” explained Belanger. “Once you see the checkstop you are committed and if you try to turn around and drive away from a checkstop then that gives us grounds to stop you.” Continued on page 40

“If you are trying to avoid a checkstop we want to know why,” said Belanger. “What is in your vehicle that you shouldn’t have? Have you been drinking (alcohol)?” Even during the high visibility checkstops, if you are seen evading the checkstop you will be stopped. Stiff penalties

“Impaired driving carries with it some very stiff penalties,” warned Belanger. “For a first offence most people can expect to see a $1,000 to $1,250 fine and a one year driving prohibition. “Someone who is convicted of second offence of impaired driving is served with a notice of intent to seek greater punishment and can face a higher penalty. Basically what this is saying is you didn’t learn the first time.” Belanger explained the IRS(Immediate Roadside Sanctions) suspension system implemented in July of 2012.
“Now it is an automatic three-day licence suspension and three-day vehicle seizure for a first offence. “A second offence you are looking at an immediate 15-day licence suspension and a seven-day vehicle seizure. “For a third offence or any subsequent offences, when you are in that warning range, its a 30-day licence suspension and a seven-day vehicle seizure. “Graduated drivers (GDL) are not allowed to have any alcohol in their system,” added Belanger. “If you (GDL driver) have any alcohol detected, then your licence is automatically suspended for 30 days and you have a seven-day vehicle seizure.” Getting the word out
Const. Belanger noted that they are seeing more responsible young people.”Young drivers are coming through checkstops with sober drivers. “We like to see people making responsible choices and planning ahead. “All it takes is one time,” reinforced Belanger. “Don’t ruin your Christmas because you thought you were okay and you didn’t have a plan.” Belanger concluded that checkstop season is now in full swing. “Just about every single night we will be having some checkstops set up at some time or another. Whether it is high visibility or enforcement based. We are trying to catch impaired drivers making sure people are safe and keeping our roads as safe as possible.”

BRSD adjusts entrance age for kindergarten By Lori Larsen
The Battle River School Division board meeting held in November revealed some interesting information to the board of trustees. Entry age
The school division will be adjusting the school entrance age from the current Grade 1 entry age, where children must turn six years of age by March 31 of the school year to turning six years of age by Dec. 31. Currently children entering Kindergarten are required to turn five by March 31. This will also change to turning five by Dec. 31. “That three months can make a significant difference to a child’s readiness and ability to learn,”
explains Rita Marler, superintendent of Schools. “We want all children to get off to a good start in school and we believe that this adjustment will help ensure that our youngest students are more prepared.” Budget
Battle River School Division 2016-17 budget was submitted to the provincial government. As a result of enrollment limit being down by approximately 160 students, every school and department within the division evaluated decisions thoroughly prior to spending. According to assistant superintendent of business, Imogene Walsh, budget figures were based on the stu-
dent population as of Sept. 30 and took into account factors such as an average teacher salary/benefits cost of $102,460, the BRSD board’s decision to provide additional funding to the division’s smallest schools and a higher government funding allocation for lower elementary grades. The incoming 2017 carbon tax was also considered in budget preparations. The tax will increase the cost of student transportation by approximately $41,000 and increase the cost of natural gas to schools and other worksites by $66,000. The Instructional Reserve that was established last year to provide funding support for the four core areas (welcoming
and caring schools, literacy, numeracy and teaching and learning in the 21st century) will continue to support additional programming and staffing this year and for the 2017-18 school years. Many students benefited from the school division’s summer programs. BRSD Summer School had 126 students successfully complete at least one course, 45 students wrote a Grade 12 diploma exam, more than 600 high school credits were earned, 217 credits were earned through the Registered Apprenticeship Program and Off-Campus Education programs and 76 Grade 2 and 3 students from across the school divi-
sion participate in Reading University, at campuses in Camrose, Killam and Tofield. Battle River School Division proudly blends diversity into its schools in many ways and currently has approximately 20 fulltime students from across the world enrolled in its schools, through the International Student Program. New Norway is one of the few Alberta schools participating in an international math exchange program. Delegates from New Zealand visited BRSD in early October and shared their best practices for math instruction, as well as taking Alberta ideas home with them.

Food for Merry Christmas Fund
Heart in the right spot
I woke up filled with anxiety one morning. My thoughts were racing about Christmas presents: what’s left to buy, what can I get that is truly exciting, how much time is left? I couldn’t remember the particulars, but I must have had a Christmas shopping nightmare of some sort, because I had to take a few moments to steady myself before beginning the day. Then a few days later, I found myself shopping on Black Friday. I didn’t realize that this was now a thing in Canada, but apparently it is. The entire atmosphere in the store began to change as more and more people filed in. People were grabbing boxes of toys as staff opened boxes upon boxes containing flyer items. It was a bit intense, almost giving shoppers the impression that they had to buy something before someone else got it first. I have even heard the term “Merry Madness Sale” and that’s exactly what the gift search can feel like: Merry Madness. It kind of makes me want to jump back in time onto the pages of the Little House on the Prairie books. Maybe make a handkerchief or mittens for my pa, and put an orange and homemade candy cane into each stocking. Simple, heartfelt, made at home gifts. Perhaps a Christmas of homemade gifts would be in order for next year. My five-yearold has asked Santa for a remote control helicopter this year. Santa, that is a tall order and I hope your elves have been working on that. My brain has been spending a lot of time mulling over gift ideas. There is a commercial on right now that sums up the goal perfectly. Two women are having a gift-giving competition. Best reaction wins. Well, there was a clear winner when the gift recipient jumped up in excitement and gave the second giver a big, warm hug. Yes, yes! There it is! That is the reaction I want! Pure, unadulterated glee at receiving something so wonderfully, perfectly you that you hadn’t even realized that you needed or wanted it, and you are overcome with excitement and gratitude at knowing this delightful, caring gift-giver. So that was my expectation for the coming Christmas season. Easy peasy, right, to find gifts like that for everyone on the ol’ list? I was still in this consumer mentality when I arrived at church that weekend. I was sitting in the pew with my family, and I suddenly, painfully realized that my priorities, my focus has been all wrong. I’m not sure what drew my attention to this–it may have been the announcement about the annual Christmas dinner held for the public, or it might have been a comment about following God’s will. I suddenly caught my breath and felt that my heart was in the wrong place. Yes, it is wonderful to pick a terrific gift for someone and to see how excited they are to receive the gift. But it’s even better to celebrate the perfect gift that has already been given, in the birth of Jesus. Making sure that everyone receives equivalent gifts isn’t what will make my heart feel content. I suddenly remembered that Christmas is about sharing our time with loved ones; giving to those in need; and making the season cheery for someone who is sad, lonely or grieving. It is not a competition to buy the best or most presents, or to eat as many cookies as possible. (I have learned if you write “vegetables” on the cookie containers that your husband won’t come near them. Thanks for the tip, auntie!) My heart has stopped racing about presents. After all, why get myself all worked up when my two-year-old will probably enjoy the tissue paper the most? Tissue paper for everyone – then I will be accepting my hugs of glee.
FOOD PACKERS
Murray Green, Camrose Booster Merry Christmas Fund organizers Larry Schultz and Dale Debnam pack hampers for enough food for Christmas Day at the Camrose Fire Department. On Dec. 15, 264 hampers were ready to go and the fund was just over $23,000. It is expected that about 280 hampers will be needed and the cost will be more than $28,000.

Students will have to show work on tests
The CAMROSE BOOSTER, December 20, 2016 – Page 47
By Murray Green
Starting in 2018, high school mathematics diploma exams will once again require students to show their work. This portion of the exam was removed in 2010 as a cost-saving measure. Alberta Education will also introduce a non-calculator portion to the Grade 9 mathematics provincial achievement test. As part of the Future Ready initiative, the government is taking steps to help students achieve better marks in math and assist teachers in mathematical instruction. Teachers will have access to up to $2,000 to help cover tuition costs for postsecondary courses designed to strengthen their knowledge, skill and confidence in teaching mathematics. Details of the program are being finalized. Alberta Education will allocate at least $2 million toward these actions through its existing budget. “We will work diligently to improve our math scores by reinforcing basic skills and by introducing new programs. Strong math skills are key to success in learning,” said David Eggen, minister of education. Some of the actions taken by government were recommended by the Math Curriculum Review Working Group, a group of postsecondary and high school instructors who offered to assist government with studying how best to support the teaching of mathematics. The group held a series of discussions with key education partners and studied available research and data. Their final report, including six recommendations for action, was released Dec. 6. “We approached government and offered to analyze the current math curriculum and available supports for teachers. Our group is pleased to see government adopt some of our recommendations in the short term and hope others will help spur a larger conversation about mathematics instruction in our province,” said John O’Connor, department of mathematics and statistics at MacEwan University. The initiatives followed recent scores from the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) that had a downward trend in mathematics scores among Alberta students. Students scored the highest in Canada in reading and science. The results come from exams written in May 2015.
As we gear up for another holiday season, we’d like to send you our best wishes for a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Thanks for your trust in us. We look forward to serving you again soon! We will be closed December 24 and reopen January 3

Helpful Tips for Writing Classified Ads Which Get Results! Be Thorough
Sure you want your ad to stand out from the rest, but don’t skimp on the sort of information that sells. The item’s condition, size, age, brand name, and color are some of the basics readers want to know. Without them, your ad may be overlooked.
Steer Clear of Abbreviations
Okay, so you want to include all the important basics. Don’t use strange abbreviations because our ads are designed to spell all the important details. Besides, you are not paying by the line, but by the word, so there is really no need to abbreviate.
Be Honest
Exaggerating your item’s finer points may bring in a lot of responses, but a buyer who’s misled won’t appreciate it and will take his business somewhere else.
State Your Price
The cost of an item is one of the most important concerns of want ad readers. Ads showing prices are ones which get results. Giving a price also serves to “weed out” those buyers not in your price range.
Be Accessible
Including a telephone number or address puts you in touch with potential buyers. Be sure to state the hours you can be reached: a caller who can’t get through the first time often won’t call again.
Don’t hesitate to call us with any questions or problems you may have regarding advertising. Our professionally trained sales staff know the ropes, and would be happy to pass their know-how on to you. That’s why we’re here, to help you get the results you deserve.

Carbon tax to change agriculture By Murray Green
Agriculture producers will have to work smarter and harder to compensate for the upcoming carbon tax. Don’t expect sympathy from the Alberta government. Wildrose Little Bow MLA Dave Schneider called on the agriculture minister to explain the economic impact of the NDP’s carbon tax on agri-food and agribusiness in Alberta. The carbon tax will increase costs for families and those doing business in Alberta, especially greenhouse operators and other agri-food businesses that rely heavily on natural gas for heating. Alberta is the third largest exporter of agri-food products in Canada and can’t afford the additional strain of the province’s risky ideological policies. “Will you stand and tell us what this government is doing to ensure companies in agri-food and agri-business can operate successfully in Alberta and compete with their counterparts in other jurisdictions?” Schneider asked the government. “The carbon tax will have a major impact on people and businesses across Alberta and it’s unbelievable the NDP don’t want to do the homework on the impact this carbon tax will have on Alberta’s agriculture industry,” Schneider said. ®

THE CITY OF CAMROSE IS PLEASED TO CONGRATULATE THE PARTICIPANTS IN THE 2016 TOILET REBATE PROGRAM This year the citizens of Camrose replaced 92 high volume toilets with low flow, high efficiency models. These 92 toilets bring the total number of toilets that have been replaced to 1,084 since the Toilet Rebate Program started in 2008! All 1084 toilets combined conserve 41,500,000 litres of water annually! The toilet consumes 30% of total indoor water use in residential homes and up to 45% in certain businesses or institutions. If you missed this year’s toilet rebate program you may still be eligible for next year. Join the water conservation effort and save money while doing it! Thank you to all who participated. Bill aims to get kids active
In the Spirit of the Holiday Season
Submitted
Children in Canada are getting a failing grade when it comes to physical activity, with only nine per cent getting the recommended 60 minutes per day. MLA David Shepherd, Edmonton-Centre, tabled a private member’s bill that aims to get Alberta students moving more. Private Member’s Bill 209, the Active Schools Week Act, recognizes the importance of active transportation (walking, bicycling, skateboarding, rollerblading) for Alberta students by creating an Active Schools Week. Under this legislation, schools will organize activities for their students to mark Active Schools Week, which will be the first full week of October. It also encourages schools to implement and maintain a policy to promote active transportation. “With rising rates of obesity and chronic disease, it’s more important than ever that we start learning healthy habits while we’re young to improve our physical and mental health,” said Shepherd. “The days I get to ride my bike to work, I arrive feeling happier, healthier and clearer-headed than the days I have to drive. Studies show the same is true for kids. When students get a small amount of exercise before school, they arrive more focused, attentive and ready to learn.” This legislation is getting support from many organizations including the Alberta Medical Association, Alberta Centre for Active Living, Alberta Parks and Recreation Association, Alberta School Boards Association, Alberta School Councils Association, Public School Boards Association of Alberta, active transportation commuter groups and fitness organizations. Dr. Kim Kelly, the Comprehensive School Health Representative for the Alberta Medical Association, is voicing her support for the legislation. “Bill 209 just makes sense. The Alberta Medical Association supports healthy communities and schools in a number of ways. Encouraging walking or biking to school can develop longterm healthy habits for our children and youth. Bill 209 is a good first step towards improving the health and wellness of our students.” Walking, bicycling, skateboarding, or rollerblading to and from school can help put Alberta students on a path towards a lifelong love and appreciation for physical activity and exercise.

Lori Larsen, Camrose Booster Camrose and District Centennial Museum volunteers are working at organizing and maintaining museum artifacts, displays and storage. Left to right, Dave Fitchie has been busy building shelving and transferring items, Sandra McLay goes through and organizes Kamifurano pieces, museum coordinator Janine Carroll tends to the overall organizing of the museum, while Deb Trout indexes photographs. By Lori Larsen
Sorting through and organizing parts of history can not only be interesting but exciting. If you would like to be part of ensuring Camrose and district’s past stays intact and is available for generations to come why not volunteer at the Camrose and District Centennial Museum. “We are going to be reorganizing things - putting like things together like gloves and scarves,” said museum coordinator Janine Carroll. “We’re rearranging all kinds of things. We have lots of organizing to do.”
Volunteers are needed to help manage the incoming artifact donations—from accession and creating the reports around the accession (condition reports for example), to assigning a number and entering the data into the computer program then putting the items into storage space. “We caught up this past summer but our shelves are full of wonderful ‘stuff’ again. And we manage to have fun too,” added Carroll. For more information or to volunteer for the museum contact Janine at email jcarroll@camrose.ca or by telephone at 780672-3298.
