Round Hill Harvest
Show and Shine
Visitors will be able to experience eras gone by when they attend the 5th annual
Round Hill Harvest Show and Shine Sunday, September 3 The day will start off at Round Hill Agricultural Grounds with a pancake breakfast and registration from 9 to 11 am. The Show and Shine gets underway at 11 am. All vehicles will be pre- 1990. Collectors and car enthusiasts alike will enjoy the wide variety of classic cars, pick-up trucks, rat rods and muscle cars. As always, the very popular threshing demonstration will take place from 1 to 3 pm. This event uses local equipment as well as artifacts now owned and operated by the Round Hill Agricultural Society. The demonstration serves as an enlightening reminder of the immense changes that have taken place in farming since ambitious settlers started making a living off the land in this area. Fewer, but much larger, farms, genetically modified seed, zero tillage, chemical crop desiccation, specialization and incredible increases in equipment, both in costs and technology, depict the massive differences in today’s business of farming. A concession will be available during the day as well as a homemade pie booth, for a true taste of the country!

Nelson Homes Feature
Nelson’s Jackson home plan great for family life
By Murray Green
The Jackson Show Home from Nelson Ready to Move Homes is an ideal three bedroom family build with 1,484 square feet. You will love the vastness of the open concept kitchen and dining area with plenty of windows for sunshine and to greet your guests. Enjoy the space, while preparing meals or feel at ease to invite the entire extended family for a holiday meal. The flow from the kitchen to the living room allows for easy conversation and
entertaining. Enjoy beautifully designed vaulted ceilings in the comfortable living space, as well as over the kitchen and dining area. The huge master bedroom includes a large walk-in closet and a handy en suite. Two other good sized bedrooms, a large main bathroom and two big entry areas complete the main floor. You will love the added storage space throughout the home. Save thousands by having your dream home pre-built and moved onto your property. Founded in 1949, Nelson Lumber has supplied building materials to western Canada for more than 68 years and has been building RTM homes since 2005. Interiors can include laminate and vinyl plank floors, tiled floors, granite and quartz counter tops and cultured stone fireplaces. There are typically two things that can limit what they can put into your house: the homeowners’ imagination and their budget. The maximum building size can be 34’ wide by 92’ long and 28’ high when it is on the moving beams. All of the homes are delivered in one piece and rolled onto the foundation, which
can be wood, concrete or ICF. There is no need for cranes or on-site work to put the house together once it arrives on site. The homes are virtually ready to move into with the toilets set and fixtures hung. Just the mechanical, plumbing and electrical needs to be completed. Customers are involved in the building process: from designing the home, selecting interior and exterior colors and meeting with the kitchen and flooring people to make the home match their needs. Pre-built homes range in size from 400 to 2,800 square feet. The availability changes frequently, so contact Nelson for a list of the current homes available, or check them out online at homes.nlc.ca and on Facebook. For more information contact April or Mark at 780-871-6300 or 1-800-661-6534.

BRCF grant to Hardisty school The Battle River Community Foundation awarded a grant to Allen Johnstone School in Hardisty to assist with constructing a shelter in the school’s Community Garden outdoor classroom. The grant is from income from the Dick and Annie Drever Fund, created in memory of Dick and Annie Drever to support projects and programs in the Hardisty area. The Battle River Community Foundation exists to support projects and facilities, such as this, in East Central Alberta which benefit the local communities and have a positive impact on the future. Grants from the Battle River Community Foundation are primarily made possible through the generosity of individual donors and organizations that have created endowment funds. The principal of these endowment funds are kept intact and the income is made available annually to support local projects and organizations. Since it was founded in 1995, the Battle River Community Foundation has granted over $4,865,000 to support community facilities like the Allen Johnstone School Community Garden outdoor classroom. Battle River Community Foundation executive director, Dana Andreassen, presents the $1,500 cheque to Janice Cullen, teacher’s aid and Elaine Endicott, teacher.
Rosalind area residents who used transfer sites provided by Flagstaff County will be directed to use the Kelsey facility because of a closure. Camrose County will sign an agreement between the Village of Rosalind and the County permitting municipal solid waste delivery by village residents to the Kelsey Transfer Site. As of April 1, the transfer site in the village has been closed. Weekly curbside pickup will remain part of the requisition for at least one more year. However, because they are still associated with Flagstaff, Rosalind residents have access to all their transfer sites (Daysland, Forestburg, Alliance, Sedgewick and Hardisty). Some residents would like to access the facility in Kelsey. Council agreed to enter into an agreement with Rosalind.

County yard awards By Lori Larsen
Every two years, Camrose County presents County Beautification awards in four categories to county residents as a way of recognizing their effort in keeping the county beautiful. All County residents are eligible to be nominated for awards by any fellow county resident. The four categories include mature farm yard/acreage, newly developed acreage (two years and under), vegetable garden and urban yard (hamlets under county administration.) The nominees are judged on general standards including design, maintenance, choice of plant material as well as other category specific elements. The 2017 recipients did an amazing job of representing the County in showing just exactly what a little hard work and dedication can do towards making our world a more beautiful place in which to live.

Tofield receives family physician By Lori Larsen
Tofield will soon be home to another family physician. Dr. Mursi Jallad will be setting up a family medicine practice this fall. As a result of recent recruitment efforts by Alberta Health Services (AHS) and partners, Dr. Jallad will be relocating from Edmonton to Tofield.
For the past 20 years, Dr. Jallad has been working in rural and urban communities across Alberta, including Camrose, Sturgeon and Fort Saskatchewan, as a surgical assistant and just recently completed an international family medicine residency. “I am glad Dr. Jallad chose Tofield for his practice,” said Tofield Mayor
Harold Conquest. “I want to thank all at AHS for their work in recruiting him.” Present physician Dr. Salahdine Abuzehar will be joined by Dr. Jallad. AHS will continue recruiting for a third physician for Tofield and surrounding area including Beaver County and the Town of Ryley.
