Find all your
LICENCE NEEDS
Camrose Registry is here to help you, in registering a vehicle, obtaining a driver’s licence, a marriage or raffle licence, or conducting lien and land title searches. “We have a great, friendly team here that strives to provide the best possible service,” said manager Karen Dammann. “We’re willing to go that extra mile to help with fast friendly service and get customers back on their way.”
VEHICLE REGISTRATION
If you buy a car that was previously registered in Alberta, you must register it under the name/names that is on the bill of sale. You will be asked for three documents: the original bill of sale with signatures of the buyer and seller or lease documents, your proof of insurance, and your identification. If you are registering a brand new vehicle that has never been registered before, you will need those three documents plus the New Vehicle Information Statement (NVIS), provided by the auto dealership. “The provincial government is no longer sending out reminder notices for your vehicle and driver’s licence renewals. But we can help you with that,” says Karen. “The Camrose Registry website (www.camroseregistry.com) offers an E-Reminder link. With this link, you can sign up for reminder notices by email or text for your vehicle registration and your driver’s licence. This website is also a good resource for downloading various registration forms.”
DRIVER’S TESTING
To write your Class 7 learner’s licence you must be at least 14 years old and, if under the age of 18, must be accompanied by your parent.
If you are 16 years of age or older, and have held a valid Class 7 licence for one year, you can take a road test. With a Basic Road Test you are in the GDL (Graduated Driver’s Licence) Program. And, once you have been in that program for two years you can take an advanced road test. Openings are available for road tests, usually with two week’s notice. Road tests and knowledge tests are also available for all other classes of licences.” The Learner’s Handbook is no longer available, but you can find them on the Alberta Transportation website: (www.transportation.alberta.ca/531.htm) Flashcards are also available as a study tool through the Camrose Registry office.
LIENS
Camrose Registry ia able to search the Alberta and acrossCanada personal property database for liens and registered encumbrances on a variety of items, including vehicles. “When you are buying a vehicle you should check to see if there are liens against it,” said Karen. “You don’t want to find that you have become liable for an unpaid debt on the car that you are buying.”
RAFFLES
“We can help with licences that are required if you are a sports group or charity wanting to conduct a 50/50 draw or raffle where the prize is valued at less than $10,000.”
VITAL STATISTICS
“Camrose Registry can order your marriage, birth and death certificate if the event occurred in Alberta. We can
in one convenient location
also issue marriage licences if the marriage will take place in Alberta.”
LAND SEARCHES
“We also do land title searches. They help you to determine if there are mortgages or caveats on it,” said Karen. “We can’t make changes, but we can do the searches for you.”
ALBERTA HEALTH CARE
You can submit your application for Alberta Health Care at our office if you’re new to the province, if you’ve had a name change or an address change.
ORGAN DONOR REGISTRY
When you renew your driver’s licence you now will be asked if you would like to donate your organs for transplants, scientific research or medical education. With your consent, the word ‘Donor’ and a heart symbol will appear on your licence. Your request will also be entered into the Alberta Organ and Tissue Donor Registry.
CORPORATE REGISTRIES
Camrose Registry can help you incorporate your business, as well as file annual corporate registry returns. A reminder form is sent out annually by Corporate Registries prior to the anniversary of the company’s incorporation. Not all changes have to go through lawyers. “We can do a lot for businesses that keep their own books,” added Karen.” If you’re looking to incorporate or are simply renewing your licence, the knowledgeable, friendly staff at Camrose Registry can assist you every step of the way.
HOURS: Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm; Saturdays 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.

Enjoy Norsemen craft beer at the Inn and in the area
These four brews are available at the Norsemen Inn
Sean Willms had a great vision when he decided to add a brewery to his hotel. He visited dozens of breweries and brew pubs to see how they operated. Then he wanted to learn from the best craftsmen in the world in Germany, where he completed an intense training program. Even with all that research and training, he didn’t envision his new brewery would be so popular that it needed to expand about every other year. “We needed to keep up with demand,” said Sean. “We have increased our production by 35 per cent this year over last year at the Norsemen Brewing Co.” A big part of the reason the brewery is expanding on a regular basis is because Sean has seen his distribution grow through several outlets outside of the hotel. “We asked ourselves, why should people just get Sean Willms inside his brewery to enjoy our fresh craft-brewed beer here in the hotel? They should be able to take it home or drink it at a hockey game or enjoy it at local restaurants. We are growing our keg sales quite quickly outside of Camrose. I would like to see more local establishments carry our craft beer. There are so many opportunities here that local businesses are just not picking up on.” Now Norsemen Brewing Co. beer is available at Camrose Golf Course, Clubhouse Virtual Golf, East Side Mario’s, Hart House, Whistle Stop Golf Course, Alice Hotel, 49th Street Liquor Store in Daysland and throughout the Norsemen Inn. “Thanks to Kevin at the Alice Hotel, we just added Eric the Red on tap. I hope more local businesses follow suit by serving our products. Soon we will be adding Longship Blonde Ale at Boston Pizza.” Longship Blonde Ale, Eric the Red, Epic Stout and Thor’s Hammer IPA are always on tap at the Norsemen Inn. “Now we have two speciality beers also on tap to give customers six choices everyday. A year and a half ago we had two choices, now we have six. What the expansion has done is allowed us to have more speciality beers to give customers a nice variety. When people come to the bar or lounge, they can count on having something different to try,” Sean said. Every October, a special German-style Oktoberfest beer is brewed to celebrate the harvest season. “We have delivered kegs to tourism events, to The Bailey Theatre and the Jeanne and Peter Lougheed Performing Arts Centre for fundraising events.” “Serving our beer at the Kodiak games is huge for us,” he said. “They asked us to come up with a light beer, in addition to our Longship Blonde, so we developed Kodiak Country Light. It has been a big hit, really tremendous. We also have our beer served at Augustana Vikings hockey games.” Distribution outside of the hotel started with small steps – a keg to a wedding party, one to a barbecue, small fundraisers. Norsemen Brewing Co. beer can be found in a St. Albert liquor store that has a growler filling station and it’s being served at Roosters Roadhouse in Red Deer. “We would like to see our fresh beer available in as many locations as possible.” If you want to take some of this delicious beer home, simply head for the Norsemen Inn where they will fill a 1.89 litre growler (64 ounces) up for you. When it’s finished, just bring it back and get a full fresh one for only $10. It’s one of the ways the craft brewing industry is making fresh beer available to enjoy at home. “The growler business has exploded. It has always been good for us, but because we have more speciality beers, they are always wanting to try something new.” The entire craft-brewing industry is in a strong growth mode as beer lovers have a thirst for discovering beers they haven’t tried before. “Travellers are coming to our hotel and are asking if there are any local breweries,” said Sean. “We love it when they ask us that question.”

KEEPS THE IMPORTANT GOALS IN FOCUS CLIENT DRIVEN: Two simple words
that mean so much. The accomplished realtors at RE/MAX in Camrose continue to focus on bringing their clients unsurpassed service.
It's what sets them apart, as evidenced by the numerous awards they have received: two Rookie of the Year awards for Trevor Vinet and Michelle Majeski, numerous President's Circle awards, and just recently Heather Ryan was inducted into the RE/MAX Hall of Fame. Why do these RE/MAX realtors find so much success? “If you listen to your clients and offer a level of service that is above and beyond their expectations, then everything else falls into place after that,” says Tracy Brandingen, a realtor in this market for many years. Camrose is geographically-central to the province, there are services and amenities here that people want without the hustle and bustle of a large city. There’s a performing arts centre, a university, major employers, especially in health care and education, a spectacular parks system… Camrose has so much to offer and as realtors, the team at RE/MAX is really proud to represent Camrose in its very best light. They know Camrose very well. They have all lived here for many years, they have strong connections
SBW 2017 – Page 6
to many groups and organizations in the community, and they have a vast amount of experience to draw upon as a team. They’re Camrose’s biggest fans.
The strength inherent in community is a powerful undercurrent assisting the RE/MAX team in its goal of providing amazing service to its clients.
They’re also great supporters of the Children’s Miracle Network, one of North America’s leading children’s charities. It was founded by Marie Osmond and her family with two simple goals:
“We feel very fortunate to be here in Camrose. We are, all of us, ambassadors for this region,” says Michelle. “We know first-hand what a great place Camrose is to live and grow.”
1. Help as many children as possible by raising funds for children’s hospitals.
Katie and Drew agree. They grew up here, went through the public school system and have developed strong roots in the community. Representing real estate buyers and sellers in Camrose is so much easier when you so strongly believe in the community and its future.
2. Keep funds in the community in which they were raised to help local children. “Every time you use a RE/MAX associate to buy or sell a property, that associate will donate a portion of the commission to the foundation,” explains Trevor. “We’re all very proud to support not only the Children’s Miracle Network, but countless other worthy causes in our community as well.”
When you’re ready to look at buying or selling property in this region, give the Camrose office a call, and experience for yourself the professional enthusiasm of RE/MAX.

Service comes first at R&D Hot Tubs GREEN MOUNTAIN GRILLS
R & D Hot Tubs have expanded to offer you the full outdoor experience. They now have Green Mountain Grills in three different sizes that use flavoured premier wood pellets to make your barbecue experience the talk of the town. R & D Hot Tubs have tailgate, middle and family sized grills that are made to the high standards the local business demands for its customers.
Service always comes first at R & D Hot Tubs. That is why the business continues to grow and gain the trust of hot tub owners across central Alberta. “We have become the one-stop shop for hot tubs and accessories in Camrose and the surrounding area,” said owner Russ Greipl. “We not only sell hot tubs, but we have parts, accessories and chemicals.” Since expanding their business in 2008 from tub rentals and service to a packed showroom full of swim spas and hot tubs, have earned just about every achievement Hydropool offers in sales, growth, marketing, general excellence and customer service. About 60 per cent of their business comes from referrals from other satisfied customers. “We have gained the knowledge over the years that goes with providing great service. We strive to give the best possible customer service that we can,” said owner Doneal Greipl. That includes more than 50 years of experience. Staff receive full training every year on new products and technology. The Greipls treat every customer like they are family
and their motto is that family comes first. The results have made a huge splash in the industry as they continue to collect awards for service. And, don’t be surprised to see their grandchildren helping out, or sharing family values with them. Selling and maintaining hot tubs starts with the product. Hydropool was selected as their go to brand for high quality hot tubs. It was started 37 years ago by a Mississauga, Ontario family that believed strongly in giving customers what they want. “Hydropool’s philosophy matched ours perfectly. We believe in giving the customers the best possible service,” said Doneal. “We treat people like family because that is the way we like to be treated. We look at it as how can we best serve the people walking in the door. It’s about service, not how many tubs we can sell in a day.” R & D Hot Tubs sells Hydropool exclusively, but they service all makes and models to help people out. Too often they hear stories about how people bought a hot tub and then realized they didn’t receive the after sale service they wanted. Both Doneal and Russ know their customers’ names when they step into the huge showroom located at 3843F-44 Avenue. They will also know your tub. “We are privileged to have the most awesome customers out there. We want them to feel comfortable in coming to us, regardless of what problem or concern they are faced with. We offer our best advice, even to

those who may have purchased somewhere else and need help,” explained Doneal. It is a good idea to check with R & D Hot Tubs before you decide to purchase one. “People often don’t think about where they can install one and what they need to do to get ready. They don’t know the electrical requirements. We go through everything with customers and explain step by step what is required. If they are still not sure, we send a service tech out to their yard to give suggestions,” said Doneal. “We like to ensure there are no surprises for the customers.” Most people purchase a hot tub for therapy and relaxation. Relaxing starts when you decide to have R & D Hot Tubs look after your needs. They offer sound advice in cleaning and maintenance. “Hydropool produces the most energy efficient hot tubs on the market and is the only company that manufactures self-cleaning hot tubs,” said Russ. R & D is a strong supporter of the Centra Cam Vocational Training Association and, every year in December, encourages customers to fill a hot tub with food for the Camrose Neighbor Aid Center food bank. They are also strong supporters of the Camrose Boys and Girls Club and the Camrose Kodiaks. R & D Hot Tubs is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Friday, and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday. For a full listing of products and services available, visit the R & D website at www.rdhottubs.ca.

You don’t want the bill to shock you once the work has been completed, so don’t hesitate to ask. Brent is always ready to let you know beforehand how much he expects the job to cost. He also gives you options. Maybe all the work doesn’t need to be done right now. Maybe there are less expensive parts that could be used. He will explain all the options available to you.

Canadian Tire team is d The importance of being an active By Dave Jewell
Dave Jewell CAMROSE CANADIAN TIRE STORE OWNER
This is an important time of year – a time to give thanks and to reflect upon the importance of small business as we recognize and celebrate Small Business Week in Alberta. Small business has a number of different definitions depending on who you talk to, but one thing is crystal clear about small business: it’s important to everyone. When we think of small business, those on our staff define it as being involved in our community at the local level. As individuals and as a group, we take a great deal of pride in being part of Camrose, living and working here, some of us raising families, all of us having neighbors. We don’t think of ourselves as being “big” business. We do think of ourselves as being an integral part of the fabric of our community. Perhaps the biggest reason we see ourselves as a “small” business is because the owner of the Canadian Tire in Camrose works here, walks out on the floor of the store to visit with customers, goes to hockey games, gets involved in local organizations, contributes to worthwhile community causes and enjoys being involved the community. The Canadian Tire store in Camrose isn’t managed by remote control from an office in Toronto. It’s managed like a “small” business, where the owner actually talks face to face with customers, is able to react quickly to the changing needs and wants of people in the community, and is able to help staff serve customers better. All of us here are very proud of our community and our ongoing commitment to serving our customers to the very best of our abilities. Thank you, Camrose, for allowing us to do business here. We look forward to many more years of being involved in “OUR” community.

GENERAL MANAGER Jeff came to Camrose as the General Manager of the store nearly two years ago. A lot has happened since he first arrived here. He and his wife have a baby and they have a new house. He and his family are getting settled. One of the things that has not changed for Jeff is the team approach he takes to managing. He prefers the collaborative approach – one that listens to everyone and reflects community, a community of our employees and those that we serve, our community of customers. “I believe this sense of teamwork, looking out for each other, translates into better customer service which is the driving focus of all of our staff here. “As we gear up for the busy fall season leading to Christmas, please let us know what you think of our store and how we might be able to serve you better.”
AUTO MANAGER David is the new auto manager at Canadian Tire, a job that he is enjoying very much. David likes working with customers. He likes talking with them, figuring out the best way to help them reach their goals. The shop he is managing has the very latest in diagnostic equipment and experienced mechanics working on vehicles. David’s job is to manage the flow of work in and out of the shop, talking with customers and getting the services done quickly and efficiently.

Quality
‌craftsmanship, design forward finishings and superb customer service
A Zetsen home promises it all
"We work well with each other and use the best craftsmen inside the industry to produce an exceptional product for our customers." Zetsens prides themselves in using local artisans and products. "We are very happy with the work we get from our craftsmen, many of which are long standing family run operations of Camrose. CONSTANT DEVELOPMENT As a family run business that has proven itself as a builder of homes and dreams, Zetsen Master Builders has been delivering quality built homes since 1975 when the business was established by Garry Zetsen and his father Andy. "We are constantly evolving," said Garrett Zetsen customer service and project manager. "Over the last three years we have introduced new plans and newer ideas for the plans themselves including updated finishes that lean towards the trends inside the markets." Constantly staying on top of new products and construction practices is something that both Garrett and Celina Brisson, customer care service representative, pride themselves in, ensuring that their Camrose and area customers are privy to progression and innovation. "We (Celina and Garrett) go to the Residential Construction Industry conference every year," added Garrett. "They have seminars for various trends or building practices which helps us to learn different things that are available in the province or Canada that we can make available and adapt to the Camrose market." A person need only take one look at a Zetsen show home to realize that they are not only getting a quality built home but that style is definitely an important component of their designs. CLIENT SATISFACTION Garrett Zetsen and Building homes is also Celina Brisson about building relationships for the Zetsen team and making sure that customer service is the number one priority. "Exceptional customer service is a big one for us," explained Garrett. "It doesn't matter who the first contact person is, it is the responsibility of all the people on our team to ensure that our customers are getting the utmost care and are involved every step of the way." Constant communication and coordination between team members maintains efficiency and effectiveness with projects and Zetsen assures that continues throughout all levels of service including their long time artisans. COMMUNITY OF FAMILY With a track record of over 40 years in business and 1,500 homes built in Camrose and Wetaskiwin, Zetsen has proven itself as a strong contributor to the community. Garry is still very involved in the company, now assuming a more leadership role, shifting the reins of operations over to Garrett and Lucas, site superintendent, who carry on Zetsens' exemplary reputation all the while expanding the scope of the company. This affords even more time for Garry to continue with the company in a grander scope and giving back to Camrose through the generous support of organizations, with a focus on youth. "Our family believes that it is the responsibility of businesses to give back to the community," agreed Garrett. Whether it be through philanthropy or supplying Camrose with a gratifying home building experience the team at Zetsen Master Builders continues to build beautiful futures.

entral Agencies Team C a l l- s ta r s ta f f n a s d l e i f Norman and James Mayer As with any successful business, the strength of Central Agencies is in its people and service. Norm, Betty and James Mayer, along with each and every member of Team Central Agencies is thoroughly committed to providing the best possible service, while helping to meet all your insurance requirements. It’s about people helping people. “In today’s fast-paced world of 800 numbers, we believe its the people that make the difference. The needs of our customers are not met simply with the writing of a policy,” explained James. “It is our goal to offer them strength, stability and most of all, the kind of service that extends far beyond the first sale.” Central Agencies’ insurance professionals go to bat for their customers and are always reviewing your policy to make sure it meets your current needs. In the event of a claim, they work with you as a team to ensure everything is resolved to your greatest satisfaction. As in good winning team defence, every staff member is trained to provide you the best coverage, so you can relax knowing they have your back. Each staff member is backed by team support from everything from insurance companies to offering emergency support. Team Central Agencies represents insurance companies with proven reputations, offering highly competitive rates, diversified policies and quick claim services. “But rest assured that people are our clients, not the insurance companies. If you do business with a direct writer, who is on your side? If you do business on the Internet, who do you call when you have issues?” Team Central Agencies work hard at representing their clients when they need support. “We can offer our customers the best possible coverage at the most competitive prices,” said James. “It doesn’t matter if you need home or auto insurance, tenants’ insurance, farm and commercial insurance, we have it all.” Team Central Agencies has experienced all-star staff members to respond to customers in a timely fashion. “When everyone on the block has the same product, it comes down to what our staff can do to assist you. When people buy insurance it is to protect their most prized assets. Customers want that comfort level knowing they will be looked after.”
Real estate As well as being a dependable name when it comes to insurance, Team Central Agencies is highly regarded as a distinguished leader when it comes to listing and selling homes, acreages, farms and commercial real estate. “We don’t really sell homes; we sell solutions to individuals, or the needs of a family,” said James. “Our agents’ primary roles are to accurately determine exactly what will work in terms of property size, location, condition and price point. It is only when we determine what is best for the client that we can match a buyer and seller accurately.” Community builders The Mayers are recognized throughout the area as people who care about their community. Even back on October 1, 1963, when they were getting started in Camrose, they lived by their policy to “give where they live.” And give they have. Their list of favourite charitable causes is lengthy, perhaps legendary. They were on board with their support of the performing arts centre, just as they were with the Recreation Centre and the memorial swimming pool in 1967. They have also supported hundreds of community clubs, 4-H members and sports teams, as well as purchases of equipment for St. Mary’s Hospital. “Supporting local organizations and projects is our way of saying thanks,” said Norm. “We consider it a privilege to have such a large and loyal client base. It is not our automatic right. We recognize our success gives us the unique opportunity to be able to give back. And giving is something we genuinely enjoy doing. It’s a pleasure to help customers find insurance or the right home. It feels good to help a client when something unexpected happens, and they need to make an insurance claim. But it’s an outright thrill to be in a position to make a lasting difference in the community. That’s why we give so generously.”

As a result Greg has dedicated 18 years of his spare time to the Camrose Fire Department as a volunteer and for six years has been the president of Central Alberta Rescue Diving Society (CARDS). “I felt that was something the community needed to keep them safe.” Come visit Greg at J Heating & Sheetmetal’s new location and learn more about the products and services this long standing Camrose business has to offer.

Yo-ho-ho and a bottle of rum! as more and more discover this treasure trove and the sensual delights of deeply satisfying rum. “The great thing about rum,” says Daniel, “is that there are so many different tastes.” Mocha, vanilla, tobacco, molasses, cocoa, cinnamon, toffee, banana, nutmeg, oak, caramel, cloves; one or a combination of them have been used to describe the underlying hints of flavor you will taste.
There is no other drink that has such a notorious history as rum. It was the drink of pirates and sailors, seafaring men who fought for their captain or their country. They battled for gold and for honour and there was most likely a beautiful ravenhaired woman involved somewhere in the story. Rations of rum were given to soldiers on the front lines. Songs were written about it. Its history is steeped in glory and in tragedy. In Camrose that wonderful, crazy history is found in a little place called Country Garden Liquor Store, whose shopkeeper, Daniel van Kesteren, knows more about rum than just about anyone in east central Alberta.
Ten-year employee Rachel Plantz and owner Daniel van Kesteren know their rums.
Walking into Daniel’s shop is like stepping into a giant treasure chest. More than 260 rums from around the world line the southwest corner of the store. They come from exotic-sounding countries such as Barbados, Venezuela, Jamaica, Trinidad, Guadeloupe, Panama, St. Lucia, Mauritius, Antigua, Guyana, Grenada and many more. They come in colors ranging from clear to golden to amber to black, as black as octopus ink. The labels themselves are works of art. Ships, skulls, captains, swords, harbours, monks, maps, mermaids, coins … all representing a time and place both fearsome and romantic.
Daniel started growing this collection of rums about 10 years ago when a friend of his asked him to bring in a few bottles of Zaya rum. Word slowly spread among rum aficionados that Daniel was willing to bring in special requests for rum. Although he hadn’t been a rum expert, he became one over time, able to discern between the special and the merely mediocre. His rum collection grew to where it is now, over 260 different kinds of rum, and the investment is paying dividends
Rum is most often finished in oak barrels that previously contained cognac, or scotch or sherry. They remain undisturbed in those barrels up to 25 or 30 years before being bottled and shipped around the world – to the amazement of rum drinkers across the globe! Rum may be what Daniel’s store is known for, but he is a full-service liquor vendor. There’s cold beer within glass-door coolers that line the east side. You will find your favorite distilled liquors, there are racks of wine, shelves filled with all sorts of liqueurs, popular coolers. The store really is full-service for those of you who haven’t fully embraced the virtues of rum. But the next time you’re in, why not pick up a bottle and start exploring the joys of the drink of pirates.

Long history of top quality
Steve Kushnerik loved working for Camrose Machine and Welding so much that he bought the company. He took over the 39-year-old business three years ago when the owners wanted to retire. “I was thinking of starting my own business when they announced they were
going to retire. It made a lot of sense for me to take over the company I knew a lot about, instead of starting a whole new business,” explained Steve. “I know everyone who walks in the door and I like that. We can do just about everything here and I enjoy helping people find solutions to their problems. It keeps me sharp as well.” Camrose Machine and Welding is ready to serve you in the shop or portable welding, steel fabrication, custom machine work, hydraulic repairs, grain box fabrication and installing hoists, installing tarps or doing truck housing repairs.
“We also cater to the farmers. Because I’m a farmer myself, I know how important it is to make repairs quickly, so they can get back in the field. That’s why I have a 24-hour service truck,” he added. Camrose Machine and Welding supplies a lot of steel for various projects. The business is also well stocked in parts, or can order parts in a quick turn-around. The service and return time is what the customers like the most about Camrose Machine and Welding. Most truck and farm repairs are completed within a day so customers are left with less down time. “We are pretty quick around here because we have the manpower to do it. We usually have the materials we need to rebuild things on site,” said Steve.

John’s Shopmobile brings the mechanic to you Time is money, and when a piece of equipment breaks down during peak season, it can be very costly. That’s why John Rawson, owner of John’s Shopmobile decided almost 30 years ago to start his own mobile mechanic business. Looking back to those early days, John comments, “I had no shop at the time, so I went strictly mobile. I drove around to farms and offered my services, and it turned out to be pretty successful. “ Now most of the work is done in his shop at Legacy Junction (where Highways 13 and 56 meet). With the latest tools and equipment they offer top notch mechanical service at very reasonable rates. “I really like our location”, notes John. “The shop is at a major intersection and within an hour in any direction you can cover a third of the province.” However, during the busy spring and harvest seasons particularly, the mechanics will still go on the road to make farm calls and repairs.
The shop not only does repairs on all trucks, trailers, agricultural equipment, motorhomes and forklifts, but is also a licenced commercial inspection facility through CVSI. Commercial truck and vehicle inspections are done (including out of province) in compliance with program standards, expectations and provincial regulations. Numerous farmers appreciate that John will take the time to do repair work and maintenance on older vehicles to give them an extended life. John knows it’s important to keep the farmers and truckers on the move. “We cater to them because we know that downtime is critical.” Many snowbirds also visit John in the fall to have their motorhomes serviced and inspected before they drive south for the winter.
John Rawson, left, and Scott Young are willing to tackle small or big jobs in their shop or on your farm.
Together with long-time mechanic Scott Young, John’s Shopmobile offers more than 50 years’ experience in the repair business.

Eastlink connects you in many ways As Canada’s largest family owned and operated telecommunications company and one of Canada’s Best Managed Companies for 11 years running, Eastlink serves thousands of Canadian communities with world-class communication and TV services, and helps raise over $4 million annually for charitable and community organizations across the country. People may not know that Eastlink comes from humble beginnings and that has been key to its success. “Our rural Canadian roots have kept us grounded and close to the people we serve,” said Julie Benoit, Eastlink’s western sales and marketing manager. “The blueberry colour of our logo is a nod to those roots – our founder got his start on a rural, wild blueberry farm.” It’s a quality she says has helped set Eastlink apart from the competition. “Our guiding principle is pretty simple,” “We treat our customers like neighbours and we work hard to earn their business every day.” Julie says that the company has made many improvements since the
purchase of Lynx in Camrose, delivering services that you typically would only find in larger cities like Edmonton and Calgary. “We’ve invested in a state-ofthe-art fibre optic network here in Camrose, which has allowed us to upgrade services here. For example, the entry level Internet service for customers in Camrose is 100 Mbps. From there, customers can access speeds of up to one Gigabit per second.” Earlier this year, Eastlink introduced TV channel exchange, the only service of its kind in Canada that allows you to swap channels you don’t want to watch for ones you do want to watch. “We spend a lot of time listening to our customers and one of the things that they have consistently told us is that they want the flexibility to choose the channels they want to watch,” explained Julie. Eastlink says TV Channel Exchange is a hit and has been welcomed with an overwhelmingly positive response. “Customers love the fact that they don’t have to call us to
make this happen, although they can if they want, but it’s so easy to do online – it takes just minutes to make the change.” Julie added that Eastlink is always working to deliver a better customer experience, which also includes the ability to watch live TV or TV OnDemand on multiple devices within the home on a computer, tablet or smartphone. Beyond the company’s incredibly fast, unlimited Internet, unique, personalized channel flexibility, and streaming services, people have the added benefit of bundling services to save money every month giving them one bill supported by 24/7, Canadian-based customer service. Your car is talking, are you listening? Our vehicles are not only major purchases; they are also an investment in our mobility and consequently our personal safety. With that in mind it is imperative to trust the health of your vehicle to the hands of a professional, accredited body repair shop, and The Auto Shoppe Collision Repair Centre most certainly fits the bill. Vehicles have become so complicated that the average person has a hard time understanding what is built into their car. Safety net technology is a term used by Nissan for example, which describes their vehicle’s ability to see the future and help prevent a catastrophic event. There are up to 80 computers on board most new vehicles now and they work in conjunction with each other to diagnose a situation and sometimes even take control of the vehicle to prevent such an event from happening. “It sounds strange but our generation is going to see autonymous vehicles, which have a mind of their own. Every vehicle that is built today is using technology that is pointing us in that direction and us as repairers need to understand their capabilities and be able to make sure the vehicle is back to its pre-accident condition,” said Auto Shoppe owner Gord Graham.
For this reason automotive collision repair shops are being held to higher standards through accreditation.
ACCREDITATION Automobile manufacturers worldwide such as GM, Ford, Chrysler, Audi, BMW, Toyota and Honda are creating a system for shop accreditation.
Gary Hill, dealer principal from Toyota City, congratulates Gord Graham, president of The Auto Shoppe.
In order to stand behind the warranty of their vehicles automobile manufacturers are becoming more stringent on shops, ensuring that staff have updated and continual training, the shop is properly equipped and that industry standards are above and beyond those required. The Auto Shoppe is proud to announce that it has passed the criteria and audit process to achieve accreditation for Ford and Chrysler under the Certified Collision Care banner of which they are in the first twenty shops in the province. At the same time, The Auto Shoppe has become the 15th shop in Alberta to pass the criteria for Toyota and are sponsored by Toyota City in Wetaskiwin. Staff at the shop are responsible for ongoing training and learn to utilize the latest in technology for welding and working with alternative materials such as aluminum, plastics and carbon fiber, ultra high strength and boron steel for example. Computer knowledge is more important than ever when diagnosing your vehicle after an accident.
specialists are going the extra mile by insisting shops be accredited, so too should you. “Vehicles being fixed in this generation and ongoing require a great deal of education and a properly equipped facility to turn out a job done right,” said Gord. It is apparent The Auto Shoppe is just that as you walk through the immaculate shop and note how organized and finely tuned they have the process. You can tell from one end of the shop to the other, The Auto Shoppe is ahead of the game in all areas, and your vehicle is in great hands. “This is a new challenge for our industry and I find it very exciting,” said Gord. “It makes us think. These young people I am surrounded by blow me away with their ability every day.” Besides the impeccable, well-equipped and organized shop, the friendly first-name-basis service and its long standing valuable reputation, The Auto Shoppe is ensuring it meets and exceeds the requirements set out by accreditation. Wow, now that’s a bodyshop!
“We are mandated now to do a health check on your vehicle before and after our repairs to assure its “safety net” is in proper working order,” added Gord.

Creating the Conditions for
Business and Development
The City of Camrose is committed to strengthening the local economy, providing quality of life and building on existing assets. “Growth, confidence, development, and construction!” are key words for 2018, according to City of Camrose director of Community Development and Innovation Victor Goodman. One of the few Alberta communities not reliant on oil and gas, Camrose’s diversified economy grew steadily even during the downturn. Camrose has a skilled, welleducated workforce and development friendly policies. More growth is on the horizon. In 2018 Camrose will see continued construction with plans in place for several industrial and retail developments. Residential construction activity will also progress with the development of the Town Square project, Ironwood Estates and continued activity in Valleyview West. City administration and council work diligently to accommodate the wants and needs of developers to ensure continuous and steady growth of the city, while also providing leading edge customer service, a trait not usually feasible for larger cities.”We may not always be able to accommodate the exact needs of developers, but we make a deliberate effort to work with them,” stated City of Camrose manager Malcolm Boyd. “When developers come to Camrose, they work with a team at the City on creating options.” Camrose is sophisticated enough to have solid processes in place, yet small enough to be dynamic and nimble. Developers seeking a place to set up shop, quite simply, won’t be put through the daunting practice of jumping through a lot of hoops. “There aren’t 10 levels of bureaucracy to get through. The City is building a strong customer service reputation and when you have a strong reputation it brings businesses to town,” remarked Malcolm. departments. Positive experiences lead to happy customers and happy citizens. Malcolm explained that the City recognizes the importance of small businesses. “They are the heart and soul of economic development. You often see more economic development success when growing small businesses that are each hiring a handful employees, than chasing one big employer.” The City sees great value in promoting Camrose to markets beyond its close perimeter, such as Calgary and other regions. “We know potential investors and entrepreneurs are looking at Camrose as a place to open a business or a satellite of their existing business. The City wants to attract new businesses and grow its existing business base. We are actively promoting the message that whether your business is retail, commercial, or industrial, Camrose is exactly where you need to be.” said Victor. DOWNTOWN UNIQUENESS Planning for future economic growth is a complex process. The needs and wants of Camrose citizens and developers are constantly changing and the City often needs to look 10, 20, to 50 years out to anticipate and plan for those changes. The 48 Avenue Bridge Replacement project is a good example of 50 year planning. Another example is development in the downtown area. “The City continues to focus on the development of a vibrant downtown area,” said Malcolm. “The success of our downtown can attract even more businesses to the area.” Updating the Downtown Action Redevelopment Plan is part of a strategy to draw small businesses to the area and encourage residential growth where people can live close to their daily destinations (a trend that is becoming more popular). “Over that last 10 years the downtown residential population has more than doubled. If people live there
they shop there and if enough people shop there, more stores will come,” said Malcolm. One of the goals is to focus on vacant and underutilized properties in the downtown area. The City is creating ways to encourage more downtown growth, including the possibility of offering incentives for downtown development. With downtown’s already far reaching reputation for friendly, diverse and unique shopping experiences, adding local events that draw people in, such as Jaywalkers and the Downtown Market, will promote growth.
