Look up on Sunday, May 26 as the Camrose skies will be dotted with a variety of aircraft coming in for the 62nd Annual FlyIn Breakfast to be held at the Camrose Airport from 7 a.m. until noon. Residents are invited to come out, purchase and enjoy a hearty western breakfast of eggs, back bacon and bratwurst, juice and coffee and, of course, fluffy pancakes. All proceeds will be

donated to the Camrose Flying Club for future projects relative to local aviation. Registrations will be accepted that day for individuals wanting to sign up for the Canadian Owners and Pilots Association (COPA) for Kids aviation program. The COPA for Kids is a free program that opens up the amazing world of general aviation to youth and thus far has introduced

over 23,000 young Canadians to general aviation. Prior to or after you get your fill of food, you can enjoy watching over 100 different types of aircraft come and go and experience a rare opportunity to walk among and marvel at the flying machines while chatting with pilots. Bring the whole family out to this popular local event that remains one of the largest and longest running fly-in breakfasts in Western Canada.

Ten things making me happy

Recently I found out that I was going to receive a unexpected sum of money that’s more than I expected and sooner than expected. I was happy. That got me thinking about things that make me happy. Here are 10 things making me happy today. 1. The unexpected money. Always a treat. It will have a happy home. 2. At some times in my life, that money would have been a lifeline; when I was so close to the edge that I literally didn’t know how I was going to pay the rent or buy groceries to feed my children. I’m happy to be reminded that I don’t live that close to the edge any more. 3. I was already happy when I got the news. Finding out about it was just an added bonus. There have been times in my life when that would not have been the case. So the third thing making me happy is the sign of progress. 4. Spring is actually here. Really and truly here. Trees are showing that early spring green. Tulips are blooming. It’s warm enough to be outside with no jacket. Spring is the ultimate mood lifter. 5. I’m making progress on a project that’s more complex, more challenging and more time-consuming than I or probably any of the people involved imagined. Not the first time I’ve had this experience! Probably not the last time. But progress is encouraging. 6. I’m glad to have lived long enough to know that the project will be done and it will accomplish its purpose even better than any of us originally imagined. 7. It’s light by 5 a.m. and until way past 9 p.m. I’m looking forward to our long northern evenings when gorgeous sunsets linger until after 10:30 p.m. 8. Last fall, an opportunity fell out of the sky. I get to learn about stuff that really interests me and be involved with younger people who introduce me to new kinds of technology and who stretch my brain and give me hope for our future. What a gift in this later stage of life! 9. For 50 years, I’ve noticed that whatever I want to learn about, or whatever would be helpful to me, shows up at the perfect time in the form of an experience, a song, a person, a movie, a book, or sometimes a surprising idea. The older I get, the more I am in awe that life unfolds exactly as it should–though sometimes with me doing a fair bit of kicking and whining! 10. Every day in the past few weeks, I’ve had some experience of kindness, love, generosity, fun, shared wisdom, being with people I treasure...I’m super conscious of being surrounded by kinds of support I could never have imagined when I was younger. 11. And that brings me to #11, which I just noticed. 12. Writing about things that make me happy makes me happy! 13. As I thought about it, I realized that actually none of those things is making me happy. I am already happy and those things are helping me to notice. I’m grateful to have lived long enough to learn that happiness is an inside job. We cannot control the outside world–Shakespeare’s “slings and arrows of outrageous fortune.” Sometimes we cannot control events in our lives–deaths, disappointments, pain, setbacks, illness. But we can take charge of our responses and choices. Whether we’re in a joy-filled time or a time of great challenges–or both simultaneously–happiness is within us all the time, ready to be noticed. So what are 10 things making you happy today– ready to be noticed and enjoyed?

Well the election is finally over, with the majority of the people happy, some of the people disappointed as expected. It has been a long and hard time for Albertans as the oil patch came to a virtual standstill thanks to some very poor decisions made in the last four years. We went from the most prosperous province in Canada to the most unemployed province. It is obvious that we had the worst provincial and federal government that we have had ever since. Coming from a premier who shut down all the potential pipelines to having none. After they ran out of money, she realized that she needed those oil sales, she changed her attitude towards pipelines. Sounds like closing the barn door after the horse gets out. She created many government jobs in Edmonton, which were not needed, but made her look good to the NDP supporters. She forced labour laws on the farmers without consulting them, closed down coal mines, put on a carbon tax, would not stand up to the BC premier, put many people out of work because of very poor decisions, spent billions of dollars that she didn’t have ruining our credit rating in Alberta and still figures she did everything right. I would imagine most of these government workers she made jobs for still don’t know where their paycheck comes from, as long as it is there on payday. I really hope that the new government can repair the mess that has been created. They have a really big job ahead of them. I talked to our local MLA about three years ago and

told him that they needed some businessmen in there and his answer was, “You can’t run a government like a business” and it is quite obvious they didn’t do that. Businessmen try to make a business successful and prosperous. The NDP sure didn’t do that. They just went on a crazy spending spree and put us in tremendous debt. My old grandpa once said to me, “You can’t fix stupid”, but I guess he was wrong because we just got rid of stupid. Marvin Despas, Camrose Free speech

The proposed UCP Campus Free Speech Policy is directed at university campuses and, as many people know, we have a U of A Campus in Camrose and if this policy goes through, it will greatly effect the campus and the Camrose community. For those who are not familiar with this policy, it is currently being utilized in Ontario and is modeled after the University of Chicago Statement on Principles of Free Expression. At first glace at this policy, you would assume that it is good as it furthers free speech. However, there are a few problematic items within the policy that actually hinder free speech and give voice to extremist groups that otherwise would not normally have a voice. The basis of the policy is that it encourages universities to be open to all forms of discussions, however, the methods it uses actually interfere with free speech. The biggest issue I have with the policy is that it denies students from holding counter-protests as well

as stops universities from denying hate speech on their campuses. For example, if a speaker, protest or demonstration that promotes hate or misinformation, wants to have a space and voice on campus, students and the university are not allowed to interfere with these. By stating that no one can interfere with the ‘free speech’ of an organization, regardless of how hateful, ignorant or scientifically wrong, is how this policy is able to disguise itself as promoting free speech, when in fact speaking out against hate and ignorance and having counter protests are just as valid of a form of free speech as any other and should also be protected. In many cases across the province, anti-racist, antibigoted, etc. groups have been able to protect their communities from groups like the Soldiers of Odin (rebranded now as Canadian Infidels) from spreading their ideals. In September of last year, a community in Edmonton was able to stop a Soldiers of Odin event by their use of counter protest. Currently the policy in effect in Ontario penalizes universities by removing funding if counter protests occur. It should also be noted that this is not the first time Kenney has tried to dictate what speech is allowed on campus. While he was a student at USF, he argued against free speech for women’s groups by saying it would open up discussion for abortion advocates, pedophiles and the ‘Church of Satan.’ Stacey Wall, Camrose

Horticultural Society getting their hands dirty By Lori Larsen

Lori Larsen, Camrose Booster Camrose and District Horticultural Society members back to front, Janine Carroll (holding a tray of lupine seedlings), Judy Wall (holding a tray of cilantro seedlings) and Eleanor White (holding a tray of brussel sprout seedlings) prepare for the upcoming plant sale to be held on May 25. This year the Horticultural Society will be featuring, along with some old favourites, some new plants, including a variety of herbs.

Camrose and District Horticultural Society are getting their hands dirty for another upcoming season of meetings and events beginning with the annual plant sale to be held on May 25 at the Saturday Farmers’ Market from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. or until supplies last. “There will be lots of annuals and perennials and some bedding out plants, houseplants and books for purchase,” said Horticultural Society coordinator Janine Carroll. Members of the Camrose and District Horticultural Society will be available to help answer any questions you may have on planting and growing. Be sure to come early because plants tend to sell out quickly. The Camrose Horticultural Society meets the first Thursday of the month at 7 p.m. at the Community Room located at Camrose Superstore, with the following exceptions: September the first Wednesday and no meetings in December, January, July and August. The Horticultural Society welcomes new members to come and enjoy a shared passion while learning from speakers and others and participating in such events as the Rose and Lily Show, bus

tours and presentations, and maintaining community gardens including the courtyard at Rosehaven and rose beds at Bill Fowler Centre and Memorial Gardens. During the June 6 regular meeting, provincial judge Liz Long will be speaking on the topic of choosing and preparing flower show entries, just in time to prepare for those who want to participate in the annual Rose and Lily Show to be held on Thursday, July 18 at the Masonic Hall (502148 Street). Entries will be accepted between 8:30 and 10 a.m. and the show is open to the public for viewing from 2 to 6 p.m. “Our posters and Flower Show booklets are now ready and can be found at area greenhouses and flowershops,” explained Carroll. “We have updated and improved our booklet so it is much more user friendly.” For more information about the Camrose and District Horticultural Society or any of the upcoming events, contact Janine Carroll by telephone at 780-608-6243. As a result of an ongoing drug investigation by Camrose Police Service Major Crimes Unit, a traffic stop was conducted in the downtown area of Camrose. The female and male passengers of the vehicle were subsequently arrested. Lori Larsen, Camrose Booster Six-year-old Matthias MacIntyre, one of Camrose’s youngest residents, gets his face painted by Tracy Fontaine of Wackadoodle Designs during the City’s open house held on May 8.

The City of Camrose hosted an Open House on May 8 inviting residents to come and speak with City staff and Councillors to ask questions and share comments on the many aspects of the City operations. The event ran from 3 until 6 p.m. on the main floor of City Hall with information and surveys posted throughout on various posters and display boards. At one area, attendees were encouraged to voice their opinions on what the City can do more of and what the City can do less of by placing sticker dots on the areas of their choice, rate the municipal services and taxes or actually write comments on sticky notes sharing their thoughts on how the City is doing. Camrose Police Service crime prevention/community relations officer Constable Kelly Bauer and Camrose Fire Department Deputy Fire Chief Joe Mah tended to the barbecues making sure visitors were kept fed with hot dogs along with other snacks provided. The younger residents were also looked after with an opportunity to have their face painted or add their own comments or art work on the Graffiti Wall. The event saw approximately 343 come out to learn a bit more about the City operations, meet and chat with City employees and have an opportunity for their voice to be heard.

Surveys were conducted to encourage visitors at the Open House to express their opinions.

Council approves streetscaping By Lori Larsen

In response to recommendations by Camrose City Council to propose a third option to the 51 Avenue Overlay Streetscaping concept project, City administration presented Concept C, which features standard-width bulb extensions on the south side of 51 Avenue (approximately 2.1 metres or seven feet) as well as larger bulb extensions on the north side of 51 Avenue (4.3 metres or 14 feet). The north side bulb extension would provide an opportunity to include some form of streetscaping (beautification). After some discussion, Concept C was approved. Councillor Wayne Throndson asked, “Under Concept C, how many parking stalls will be lost?” City of Camrose director of engineering services Jeremy Enarson indicated that the City would do everything possible to keep the parking restrictions

the same as what already exists with the possibility of a loss of one or two parking stalls. Councillor David Ofrim said he felt Option C was a good compromise, but inquired about the possible planters that were proposed as part of beautification. Enarson replied, “The recommendation from administration is to do some streetscaping, whether that be planters, street art or things like that. Those decisions are yet to be determined.” Councillor PJ Stasko remarked that while he felt Concept C was a compromise, he was still unsure of whether or not he would be in favour of it Councillor Kevin Hycha asked if 51 Avenue was still a truck route and if so, would Concept C accommodate the correct lane widths. Enarson replied that it would. Hycha also asked about the purpose of the bulb-outs,

concerned that there may be better use for improving sidewalks and crossings in other parts of the City. Enarson replied, “The purpose of the bulb-outs is to allow for a shorter crossing distance for pedestrians to get from one side to another. They will provide options or additional refuge for pedestrians for crossing the roadway as well as the addition of some beautification.” Councillor Agnes Hoveland asked why this particular area was more concerning for pedestrian crossing. “Is it because it is a truck route?” City manager Malcolm Boyd responded by saying this area, where Main Street intersects a truck route, has the potential for higher pedestrian traffic. “It would fly in the face of public safety to force pedestrians to cross four lanes of traffic, hence the necessity to narrow it up to two lanes of traffic, to help prevent speeding.”

Fascinating Survey Results

By Murray Green

Totum Research finds that newspaper readership in Canada has reached an all-time high Totum research is a Thornhill Ontario based organization, internationally recognized for their work in marketing, communications, qualitative and quantitative studies and business research.

In February, Totum Research reported to News Media Canada these findings from a comprehensive study of Canadian Media. •

88% of all Canadians read at least one newspaper weekly. (A 3% increase over a 2012 study.)

Digital newspaper readership continues to rise year-over-year.

Due to increased levels of global misinformation, researchers determined that reliable reporting of a newspaper was a highly instrumental factor in increasing newspaper popularity.

52% of newspaper readers access newspaper content from both print and online sources.

People prefer the comprehensive and in-depth reporting that a printed newspaper offers. They enjoy receiving breaking news in digital fashion.

88% of millennials read newspapers weekly, and prefer to access content primarily through mobile phones.

The Rose City Farmers’ Market will be moving outdoors starting next week. Weather permitting, some of the vendors from the market will be heading outdoors to offer more space and convenience for customers. The indoor/outdoor market at the Duggan Mall begins on May 16. If the weather is poor, the vendors will move inside to their regular tables. The outdoor market is expected to be held outside during the summer or until the weather turns cool. “It offers the vendors a choice and people like to shop outdoors when the weather permits,” said Judy Schlosser of the Rose City Farmers’ Market. “It’s good advertising to be outdoors because people will see tents and they will wonder what is going on. We are hoping to draw more people into the market.” The market is held at the Duggan Mall every Thursday from 1 to 6 p.m. “I’ve actually wanted an outdoor market for five years and we worked it out with the mall management. We will set up going north with the Norsemen Inn behind us,” added Judy. “We are planning a grand opening outdoors on June 20.”

Knutson 1950 GMC was built for speed By Murray Green

The Lowell Knutson owned 1950 Chevrolet pickup truck was re-built for speed on the track. “It came in on trade at the dealership,” said Lowell, who owned Norseman Pontiac Buick GMC at the time. “I learned how to drive a truck like that on my grandfather’s farm. I talked to the guys in the back and said why don’t we fix this thing up. Then paint it and make it look nice.” The Advance-Design was a pickup truck series by Chevrolet, their first major redesign after the Second World War. Its GMC counterpart was the GMC New Design. It was billed as a larger, stronger, and sleeker design in comparison to the earlier AK Series. These trucks were sold with various minor changes over the years until March 25, 1955, when the Task Force Series trucks replaced the aging Advance-Design model. “They (mechanics) were putting in a little engine for me. Then we started to see more 100-footer races going on, so Bob Lamb, Brian Cutting and Wendle Taylor started to work on it with Bob doing most of the work on it,” recalled Lowell. The same basic design family was used for all of its trucks including the Suburban, panel trucks, canopy express and cab overs. The cab overs used the same basic cab con-

figuration and similar grille but used a shorter and taller hood and different fenders. The unique cab over fenders and hood required a custom cowl area, which makes the cab over Engine cabs and normal truck cabs incompatible with one another, while all truck cabs of all weights interchange. “Bob continued to work

FUN FACTS

A new look in 1950 on deluxe-cab models was a three-piece rear window with curved side sections that wrapped around the roof and ran forward almost to the doors, aiding visibility. In all, the new model marked a vast improvement in GM truck design. Some improvements went inside, too with comfort and convenience getting more attention than ever and in future years the market’s demand for car-like amenities would prove increasingly important. Concealed door hinges, a foot-actuated parking brake, easy-action steering-column gearshift, and integral cowl ventilation were equally important. In the 1950s, consumers began purchasing pickups for lifestyle, rather than hauling reasons. Carlike, smooth-sided, fenderless trucks were introduced, such as the Chevrolet Fleetside. You had one choice of an inline six engine, a 216 cubic inch in 1950. It wasn’t until 1954 that the 235 and 261 engines were added, along with the hydramatic automatic transmission. Before that you had a choice of three or four speed manual transmission.

on it to make it go faster and faster. They put new tires on it and it soon became hard for me to drive it on the streets,” laughed Lowell. “It just had way to much power. We keep on going and the mechanics added more things to it, soon a 500 horsepower nitrous kit on it, which puts out 1,200 horsepower. All this time we kept it street legal. We would just have to change tires to make it street legal again,” shared Lowell. From 1947 until 1955, Chevrolet trucks were number one in sales in the United States, with rebranded versions sold at GMC locations. “I kept it over the years and it was fun to drive. I ended up with a 1966 Buick LaSabre Custom convertible, so I drove that around the city more than the truck. It was our parade car.” While General Motors used this front end sheet metal, and to a slightly lesser extent the cab, on all of its trucks except for the cab overs, there are three

main sizes of this truck: the half, three-quarter and full ton capacities in short and long wheelbases. “I maybe put 300 to 400 miles on it every year. I use it to go to car shows in the summer.” In 1950, telescopic

shock absorbers replaced lever-action type. It was the last year for the driver’s side cowl vent, its handle was changed to a flat steel, not maroon knob as in previous years.

Part of the election platform was to focus on jobs and the Alberta economy. Our premier, Jason Kenney, is making good on those promises when he met this week with investors at the board of trade. His message is, Alberta is open for business. We are achieving this by cutting taxes on Job-creators, scrapping the carbon tax, and cutting the red tape that keeps businesses from creating jobs. Premier Kenney also spoke in Ottawa to the Senate committee regarding our energy sector. He made it very clear that we will not back down on Bill C 69-“The no more pipelines act.” Our ethical energy industry has the highest environmental, human rights and labour standards in the world. Premier Kenney also met with Andrew Scheer and let him know that the United Conservatives will back him in his campaign to defeat Justin Trudeau. I pledge to work closely with our local candidate here in our Camrose constituency. The Blue Ribbon Commission has been announced. They are a non-partisan panel of experts brought together to help focus on getting Alberta‘s fiscal house back in order. Their first priority is to take a deep dive into Alberta’s finances to provide a clear picture of our current physical situation. The objective is to balance the budget by 2022-23. Without raising taxes they will develop a plan to pay off the provincial debt and increase transparency on government budgeting. Locally, I have joined the Central Alberta MLA Group to ensure that rural Alberta constituencies have a strong voice in our Legislature. Our first meeting was held in Lacombe, but I will be hosting our next meeting in Camrose. At our meetings we will be discussing health care, agriculture, seniors housing, economic development, environmental regulations, parks and rural crime. Over the course of the next few months other common topics will be added to our agenda. The Camrose constituency office is open and located in the Central Agencies building in Suite 104, 4870-51 Street. Wendy Pasiuk has returned as the office manager and we have Dylan, a student, working with us over the summer. Volunteers are assisting with special projects and we look forward to serving the community.

Professional advisors assist BRCF endowment fund By Murray Green

Professional advisors within the Camrose area are very important people when it comes to the stability of the Battle River Community Foundation. “Imogene Walsh, our current board chair, asked me to pinch hit as she is unable to be here today. We held our monthly board meeting this morning and I was reminded of the variety of skill sets around the table and what value that has as we do what we do,” said David Ofrim, past chair of the Foundation board. He introduced Chris Quinn, chief financial officer of the Edmonton Community Foundation (ECF). “As many of you know, our foundation’s funds are invested with the Edmonton Community Foundation. This relationship has allowed us to benefit by generating a higher rate of return that we may have otherwise earned. The ECF has been described as being our big brother and originally assisted the Battle River Community Foundation in getting established in the early years. We are a stronger Foundation because of this continued association,” said David. “Your presence today continues to support the Foundation in looking after its administrative costs. Funds raised at this event over the years have

amounted to $260,000. Our goal is to have enough revenue coming out of our various administrative funds to fully support our overhead expenses so as to eliminate

the need to charge a yearly administrative fee against each fund,” said David. He added that the work professional advisors provide really bears fruit. The

BRCF have received significant donations through planned and year end giving. This is a result of conversations between advisors and their clients.

“As of Dec. 31, 2018, the Foundation has an endowment fund nest egg totalling just over $14 million. The earnings from these funds have allowed the Foundation to grant $6,354,000 to various charitable organizations and groups throughout the Battle River area. Careful financial stewardship of donations received will ensure that the wishes of our donors, who are truly our clients, will be fulfilled long into the future,” he said. The Battle River Community Foundation was started in 1995 by a group of community-minded individuals wanting to make a difference. “If you do the math, we will be celebrating 25 years in 2020. Together with your continued encouragement and guidance of our existing and future donors, we will all make good things happen for many more years and maybe even forever.” Ofrim introduced the BRCF team of vice chair Tom Chelmick, secretary Kevin Gurr, treasurer Wally Wrubleski, past chair Blain Fowler, directors Debbie Orcheski, Stephen Kambeitz, Garrett Zetsen, executive director Dana Andreassen, administrative partner Tom Kuntz. He also acknowledged chair Walsh and directors Jim Hampshire and Leon Lohner who were unable to attend.

Fiddlin’ Around with champion Woods By Murray Green

Renowned Canadian fiddle champion Scott Woods and his All-star Band present Fiddlin’ Around concert. The show will be held at the Camrose United Church on Wednesday, May 22 beginning at 7 p.m. This uplifting twohour Branson-style live show features plenty of fun fiddle tunes in the style of Don Messer, Graham Townsend and Al Cherny, as well as traditional country and gospel songs that reflect the music and values of the past. A variety for all tastes and ages, this fast-paced family show will keep everyone entertained with Scott’s keen wit and his prowess on the fiddle, along with sweet harmonies, smooth vocals, yodeling, sensational step dancing, family humour, inspirational stories, and of course, Scott’s famous trick fiddling–front and back somersaults and walking on a barrel–all while playing his fiddle. Joining Scott on stage in Fiddlin’ Around is his sister Kendra (nee Woods) Norris–a multi-instrumentalist and certainly no stranger to old time fiddling, having won the Canadian Duet Fiddle Championship title three times with Scott, as well as several solo wins in various classes including the 2016 Canadian Open (19 to 55 division). Also on stage are Canadian Country Music Award Winner and Guitar Player of the Year Steve Piticco and champion step dancer 14-year-old Leo Stock. A special guest will be Naomi Bristow, Canada’s yodelin’ cowgirl. She was awarded the

Best Traditional Yodel Album by the National Traditional Country Music Association. Scott is a two-time winner of the Canadian Open Fiddle Contest, twotime winner of the Canadian Grand Masters Fiddle Championship as well as Fiddle Entertainer of the Year. He is known affectionately as ‘The Flippin’ Fiddler’ and tours extensively across Canada and the USA every year raising funds for churches, charities and community service organizations.

Scott and the band also tour in Germany. Scott’s dad Merv started playing old time music in 1944 as a youngster. His very first performance was a fundraiser for the local school house just outside of Fergus, Ontario. By 1950, he had formed his own band known as The Merv Woods Orchestra. They soon became very busy playing for dances, socials, garden parties, weddings, anniversaries and more, many of which were fundraisers. Keeping the tradition

started by his dad, Scott and the band have expanded their travels right across the country. Their love of music, fun and family continues to be evident both on and off the stage. Tickets are available at Vinesation Olive Oils and Vinegar on Main Street in Camrose by cash, or purchase by phone with a Visa or MasterCard by calling the Scott Woods Band office toll free at 1-855-726-8896.

Beatles Experience mania in Camrose By Murray Green

If you didn’t get to see the Beatles perform live on stage, you can hear the top cover band in the Beatles Experience right here in Camrose. The Argentina world renown band will be bringing back the magic of the Beatles on Friday, May 24, starting at 7:30 p.m. in the Jeanne and Peter Lougheed Performing Arts Centre. “We are glad to be back in Canada as we share our music with the world,” said the four lads from Argentina. “We have had a good response in Canada, so we are back for the third time.” The Beatles Experience is a world class Beatles revival Tribute band. They were formed in 2011 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. In 2014, they won the Battle of the Bands in the 14th Latin America Beatles week, organized by the Cavern Club Buenos Aires.

“The music helps people remember when they were young. People want to hear the music live, that’s why they come to our concerts,” the band members said. “Argentina really loved The Beatles. So, a lot of people learned English from the songs and many started playing music because of them. They are still very popular in our country.” Two of the bands members have been awarded Best Guitar Player for three consecutive years (2012 to 2014) and best drummer in 2013. “Because of the internet, we got together to form a band. After that, we only played Beatles tunes. There are a lot of Beatles bands in Argentina, so we knew that we had to play and sing well to survive. We tried to create everything as similar as the original band as possible with music, dress, act and play on stage. Not only the

sound, but on stage as well,” said the singers. Their tour of B.C. and Alberta in 2015 and 2018 was received with great enthusiasm and was followed with playing in the Cavern Club Liverpool during Beatles Week, making those years exceptional ones. “We try to have three sets – the early Beatles, middle and the later Beatles. We put songs online and then people started asking us to play in other countries.” Now they will be bringing the world class show to Camrose. “When we won the best Beatles band in Argentina, we were given the chance to play in Liverpool during Beatles Week and that was a great experience. When we start singing, people forget we are from Argentina. Playing Beatles songs is the best job ever.” Five pairs of tickets will be given away through Camrose NOW! and the Camrose Booster Facebook page.

Helpful Tips for Writing Classified Ads Which Get Results! Be Thorough

Sure you want your ad to stand out from the rest, but don’t skimp on the sort of information that sells. The item’s condition, size, age, brand name, and colour are some of the basics readers want to know. Without them, your ad may be overlooked.

Steer Clear of Abbreviations

Okay, so you want to include all the important basics. Don’t use strange abbreviations because our ads are designed to spell all the important details. Besides, you are not paying by the line, but by the word, so there is really no need to abbreviate.

Be Honest

Exaggerating your item’s finer points may bring in a lot of responses, but a buyer who’s misled won’t appreciate it and will take his business somewhere else.

State Your Price

The cost of an item is one of the most important concerns of want ad readers. Ads showing prices are ones which get results. Giving a price also serves to “weed out” those buyers not in your price range.

Be Accessible

Including a telephone number or address puts you in touch with potential buyers. Be sure to state the hours you can be reached: a caller who can’t get through the first time often won’t call again.

Don’t hesitate to call us with any questions or problems you may have regarding advertising. Our professionally trained sales staff know the ropes, and would be happy to pass their know-how on to you. That’s why we’re here to help you get the results you deserve.

Central Agencies Home of the Week

Serenity of country living

By Lori Larsen

Centrally located just outside Hay Lakes and within a short commute to Camrose, Edmonton and Tofield, this amazing acreage has plenty of room to spread out and enjoy the peace and quiet of your own country setting. This property is ideal for a growing family offering so much glorious outdoor living, with trees and grounds for children to run and explore; and a large four-bedroom, three-bathroom home that has privacy for every family member. A main floor living room features a large bow window, which floods the area with warm natural light and an incredible stone-faced fireplace to cozy up in front of and read a book. A step-up area off the living room would be the perfect place for a formal dining room or a sitting area, where you can enjoy observing the great outdoors. The large country kitchen has plenty of room to prepare wonderful meals for family or entertaining. A two-piece powder room on the main floor is convenient for guests.

Al-Karim (Al) Mohamed The second level offers peace and quiet for two bedrooms, a main fourpiece bathroom, master suite with private en suite away from the hustle and bustle of the main floor. The first lower level of this fourlevel split has a another huge bedroom that would delight an older child, and a family room. The basement level has another good sized recreation room that could be used as a hobby room, home gym or could easily house a games table and large screen television. Imagine the fun of getting together. A beautiful wrap-around deck brings the living outside to your own private property and two large double garages and heated 32’ x 40’ shop has potential for a home business. Upgrades to the home include newer flooring, paint and shingles, well and holding tank, air conditioning and a high efficiency furnace. Own a piece of paradise with this wonderful acreage located at 48505 Range Road 210, priced at $429,900. WELCOME TO THE

2019 Golfing Season New to the management of the kitchen, dining room and catering services is Chad Fisher, who brings over two decades of restaurant and food service experience. He definitely knows his way around a grill. Chad is perfecting some of his favorite recipes for savory beef dips, juicy burgers, convenient fresh-made pick-up-andgo sandwiches and a variety of clubhouse friendly foods aimed at golfers who have just finished a round or want a light meal before they tee off.

mornings at 8:30 in the clubhouse and get the golfing underway at 9 a.m. PAYMENT PLAN New this year is an option to pay for a season’s pass through a payment plan. Dean says it’s attractive to young families on a budget and so far the response has been encouraging as new players are arriving regularly to take advantage of this special incentive. Golf is a wonderful way to spend time with your family outside in the fresh air and sunshine. As the saying goes, the family that plays together stays together.

Fresh-baked goods are on the menu, crisp salads, home-style soups, chicken wings, and more, all made and served with quality in mind. Now that Dean has a year under his belt, he has a feel for the community and what the players would like to see at their golf course. A new Thursday evening ladies league is underway and it’s already proving to be popular with women who are busy during the day but enjoy getting out for a friendly round in the early evening. Dean Dereniuk, The men’s night Tuesday league started CPGA golf professional May 7 with an impressive turn-out. The and Camrose Golf Course clubhouse was loud and lively as the men general manager. renewed acquaintances and enjoyed some “An awesome summer camaraderie. Several teams are still looking awaits!” for players to join them so if you’re new to the area or want to start playing Tuesday evenings, give the pro shop a call and give them your name. It’s a great way to meet others who really enjoy the game of golf.

Senior golfers have their league play underway as well. It’s open to everyone over the age of 55, no matter their ability. They meet on Tuesday

One of the attractive things about the Camrose Derek, Golf Course is “I look forward it’s only a few to seeing you!” minutes away from anyone who lives in the city. To come out and play nine holes normally takes less than a couple of hours. The course can be a challenge for expert players but it’s also fun for novice golfers just starting out. A focus this year will be on junior golf. Dean is a strong believer in bringing juniors to the course Chad, to learn the game, where they can grow to “Golf’s a great way enjoy it and play it for the rest of their lives. to meet people!” There’s no other game like it.
