The Bailey Theatre Board of Directors has received a piece of outstanding news. They have achieved the Telus/Story HIVE Award, which assists with funding in order to produce a 25-minute film that details the storied history of the grand old vaudeville theatre on Main Street, Camrose. David Roth was one of the driving forces for this initiative and has worked alongside Ben Wilson and Sarah Wray of Story Brokers Media, from Bashaw, in order to document the birth, life, closure and ultimately the ground-up restoration and re-opening of this remarkable theatre. The theatre’s beginning of outstanding service to the community began in 1911. Today it holds the esteemed status of the Province’s oldest performing arts venue. The historical trailer for the 2020 film will be shown at The Bailey Theatre for the very first time in September. Watch The Booster for further news.

Mo and Wanda Griffiths and their granddaughter, Chelsea Ladell, left on a 14 day cruise on the wonderful Royal Princess on July 6. Departing from Vancouver, they made their way north to Alaska with stops at Ketchikan, Juneau, Skagway and Whittier. En route they saw a lot of wildlife and several glaciers. A great time was had by the trio and they didn’t forget to take a Booster along. Our thanks to Mo for taking us with his family on their holiday! Your $20.00 cheque is in the mail! Do you enjoy reading The Camrose Booster? Show us with a picture! Drop off, mail or email a photo of you reading your Booster while vacationing, along with a brief explanation. Sedgewick school fire By Lori Larsen
On Aug. 14 at approximately 8 p.m. a fire broke out at Central High Sedgewick Public School causing damage to a concentrated area of the school. “Most of the damage was contained to the roof. We have water and smoke damage to the elementary end of the school. We have
crews on site and we will have to wait for a report to determine our course of action,” said Diane Hutchinson, Battle River School Division director of communications F i ref ight ers f rom S edgew ick , Ha rd isty and K illam attended the fire.
4506-39 Street, Camrose • 780.672.1015 “Thankfully, there was a prompt 911 call, the fire departments responded quickly and were able to contain the fire to the roof. The gym wall was maybe damaged, but we will wait for an engineers’s report.
We will need a week to examine the damage and what our course of action will be.” Students attending the Grade 1 to 12 school are from Lougheed, Sedgewick, Killam and Hardisty.
With school just two weeks away, the BRSD will notify staff and parents of any changes to the regular schedule as soon as possible.

Shauna Chrabaszcz Owner, High Gloss Homemakers
Shauna started High Gloss Homemakers four years ago with the intention of helping seniors stay in their homes a little longer by providing cleaning and household services to them. She thought there would be a niche market for her business plan. Some 250 clients later, Shauna is as busy as a “one-armed paper hanger”. She had no idea her little business would grow so popular, not only with seniors, but with busy families pressed for time. As her reputation grew, new commercial clients started asking for her services. Cleaning, meal preparation, gardening, laundry; these kinds of time-consuming jobs are performed with expertise by Shauna’s team. If there’s a special job you would like to be done, just ask, says Shauna with a big smile. Commercial, real estate, builder and house cleaning is the base of Shauna’s business. High Gloss Homemakers use only pet safe, food safe and septic safe cleaners. Their cleaning equipment has been researched extensively for effectiveness and reliability. They strive to purchase their supplies and equipment locally, believing in giving back to the community that supports their business. “A passion to help people” is what drives Shauna to excel. Not only to help her clients, but also the people she employs, giving them meaningful work, even during slow times such as we are experiencing right now. If you have too many routine jobs and not enough time, give Shauna a call today. Her team is ready to roll up their sleeves.

Sunday afternoon of summer
“Late August is the Sunday afternoon of summer.” I don’t remember who wrote that, but it’s a perfect description. Typical Sunday afternoon: relaxing or doing fun things, enjoying “off-duty” time, with tendrils of mentally preparing to move into work mode. Shifting gears. Typical urban late August: savouring a slower pace or adventures away from the day-to-day rock pile. Hospitable weather to be outdoors. Gearing up for busier time in the fall. Typical rural late August: antsy to be ready for busy harvest season; gathering energy, preparing equipment, checking fields, but not yet full tilt. ***
Lori Larsen, Camrose Booster Save On Foods (Camrose) store manager Dan Faithfull, right and assistant store manager Pat Corrigal, left present Camrose Neighbor Aid Center program director Jo-Anne Tweed with $640 in gift cards to be used to help fill the shelves at the Food Bank. The funds were raised during the Share It Forward promotion.

Some August delights…In the midst of scurrying about with preparations for a family wedding which would start in a few hours, everything stopped to watch an oriole. Yes. An oriole. I know orioles are rare but not unheard of in our part of the world, but as far as I can remember, I’ve never actually seen one. There it was in a tree just a few metres away. And it stayed there, bopping around the tree. Bright gold with flashes of black. Beautiful! I didn’t want to breathe. Several of us got to watch it for about 15 minutes before it flew away in a flash of gold. And then, further out in the lake, two black specks could have been loons. They were! With the aid of binoculars, I got to see my first loons. I’ve heard loons and love their evocative call but until now have never actually seen one. It was thrilling to be able to watch them, the characteristic silhouette and markings, as they moved serenely over the water. So–two bird sightings during the same August half hour. A rare treat. Leisurely coffee dates on patios have been another August treat. Some of the most enjoyable conversations, stimulating and relaxing at the same time, have unfolded on patios. The pastry treats undoubtedly contributed. Basking in the warm air, just enough sunshine and just enough shade. ***
Back to school. I had the delightful gift of an entire day with a granddaughter who is moving away from home, moving to the city to begin university in September. I had the privilege of joining her for a tour of her new campus. We also practiced using public transit in the city–both bus and light rail transit–another new adventure for my granddaughter. We even got to have funny exchanges with a bus driver with a twirly grey mustache who went out of his way to make sure we, obviously-novice riders, knew where to go when to ensure we didn’t miss the next bus and could get where we needed to go. One on one time with grandchildren is always a treat, as is sharing part of a big life change. “Back to school” energy is in the air. Stores are busier with back-to-school shoppers. I live near a school and have noticed for several weeks that many cars are in the parking areas as teachers and administrators prepare for the next season. ***
No fee to participate. Feel good about decluttering, and about bringing home something that you can’t live without!
Details in next week’s Booster and on Camrose Now!
Back to work. Depending on the business or organization, many workplaces have a slower pace over the summer. As people return from vacations and schedules rev up, there’s a re-grouping time. Many of us feel a bittersweet wish to hang back, to savour the summer a while longer, while simultaneously feeling intensified energy as we gear up for a faster-paced fall. Every year I experience a mixture of excitement and anticipation over new activities coming up, combined with tinges of sadness that summer is winding down. Every year I resolve to remember to stay in touch with the joys of leisurely summer, to take time to remember and recapture that contented leisurely feeling no matter what might be happening around me. Perhaps this is the year I’ll be able to keep doing that past the end of September! ***
I’d love to hear from you! If you have comments about this column or suggestions for future topics, send a note to Bonnie@BonnieHutchinson.com. I’ll happily reply within one business day.

UNIDIRECTIONAL FLUSHING Why the City of Camrose is implementing the Unidirectional Flushing (UDF) Program: 1. 2. 3. 4.
To maintain and improve the City’s water quality. To improve water flow and pressure in the water distribution system. To reduce bacterial growth, restore disinfectant residual, and improve water colour. Unidirectional Flushing uses 40% less water than traditional flushing programs due to increased water velocity. 5. In addition to scouring the water pipes, the UDF Program also gives the City the opportunity to check, exercise, and maintain all water valves and hydrants. This year’s UDF program began July 25, 2019, starting with Zone A (in Area 2) and will continue for 2-3 months. Water service should not be disrupted during the flushing process. There may be a slight drop in pressure or a presence of discolouration in the water from the minerals and sediments being flushed from the pipes. If a discolouration is noticed, please turn the tap off for 15 minutes and flush from your bathtub tap until the water is clear. If there are any questions or concerns in regards to the Unidirectional Flushing Program please feel free to contact Emily Baum at the City of Camrose Engineering Department at 780-672-4428. For additional information please visit the City of Camrose website at www.camrose.com.

OSCAR celebrates 20 years of after school care By Murray Green
For the last 20 years, OSCAR Child Care Society has been offering fun, quality after school care for children ages four and a half to 12, right on site within the four Battle River elementary schools here in Camrose. OSCAR was developed in 1998 as a result of inquiries for such care by the principals and teachers at
BRSD. As a result, locations now include Chester Ronning, Jack Stuart, École Sifton and Sparling schools with St. Pat’s attending the Sparling location. OSCAR is licensed by the Government of Alberta. “We became accredited in 2011 by Accreditation of Early Learning and Care Services. We offer child driven programming, guided by certified child care
professionals. We have a parent advisory board to help us keep up with the latest trends in family needs, child interests, and quality child care. Our philosophy is that no child should be at risk due to inadequate supervision or lack of resources. Children need care and sustenance in an environment which provides for their social, emotional, physical, intel-
lectual, and creative needs. Our fun and creative programming provides for these needs,” said Kandace Bonney, OSCAR director. Children are provided a nutritious snack, a variety of activities both indoor and out, homework help, and incidental learning that comes with having fun. “We pride ourselves on our diversity in programming and the care we
take to include family as much as possible in our activities through pictures, attendance at an activity, as a presenter, or children’s show and tell. We also invite community members in to visit the children and to teach the children about our community (i.e. police, fire, dancing groups, cultural groups),” explained Kandace. Continued on page 18

This year, staff will continue to work toward achieving our vision of: Every Student, Every Day, A Success by providing an educational experience focused on programming that is tailored to meet the individual learning needs of the students we serve. We’re looking forward to a great year! – Rita Marler, Superintendent of Schools
New Registrations Please let us welcome you to Battle River. Students new to the school division should register at the school they will be attending and provide a birth certificate when registering.
BUSING SERVICE The first day of busing for all students will be Tuesday, September 3, 2019.
Students residing in Beaver County, Camrose County and Flagstaff County Students who were transported to a Division-operated school by a BRSD bus during the last school year will be included in our plans for the 2019-2020 school year. Students new to these areas should register for bus service by calling the Transportation Department at 780-672-6131 extension #5279, or 1-800-262-4869 extension #5279, well in advance of school opening so that efficient routes can be planned. Any questions regarding attendance areas and/or eligibility for busing should be directed to the transportation department.
Students residing in the City of Camrose BRSD oversees busing for all Camrose schools. Students attending an Elk Island Catholic school should register for busing through the Elk Island Catholic Schools Transportation department at 780-449-6480. Transportation will be provided for students within the City of Camrose on the following basis: • Eligible students (those who live further than 2.4 kilometres from their designated school), will be served first at no cost. • Non-eligible students (those who live closer than 2.4 kilometres from their designated school) will be served next, on a first-come, first-served basis, for an annual fee of $400.00 per student in grades 1-12, or $355.50 per ECS student. There is a maximum $900.00 fee per family of three or more students. Registration for busing of non-eligible students will be confirmed upon receipt of the applicable fee. Reminder: students will be expected to produce their bus pass upon entering the bus. • You can register for busing to a BRSD City of Camrose school now. The forms are on the BRSD website and can be filed electronically. Bus passes for all City of Camrose students (including students who attend Elk Island Catholic schools) will be available for pick-up starting August 19, 2019. • Bus passes must be picked up at the Transportation Office, 6211-48 Avenue. • Bus passes are sold as a year pass. No half-passes or winter passes will be sold. • We accept payment by cash, cheque, Visa, Mastercard and Debit. Battle River School Division will be accepting registrations and distributing passes for busing in the City of Camrose from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon and 1:00 to 4:30 p.m. starting August 19, 2019 at the following address: 6211-48 Avenue, Camrose. Any questions regarding attendance areas and/or eligibility for busing should be directed to the Transportation Department.

Buckle has fun with 1967 Shelby Cobra By Murray Green
Tim Buckle of Camrose now owns a 1967 Shelby Cobra 427 replica with a Ford engine. “I’ve always wanted a Shelby Cobra, so when I came across this one in Fort McMurray, I grabbed it. I got the car from someone in Toronto from an estate sale. The original guy started building it in 1999 and passed away in 2006, just before he finished building it. He worked for Chrysler for 30 years, so they finished it for his wife and daughter,” explained Tim. “They hung onto it until last fall when a guy who was friends with the mom bought it and brought it to Alberta. Then I bought it this spring.” Tim remembers the Shelby cars being faster than regular cars and this car didn’t disappoint him. “It is a car made from a replica kit. I couldn’t afford the original car, so this is the closest thing to it,” said Tim. “I haven’t done anything to it. It has a 351 crate engine in it with about 400 horsepower with a five speed. It is a lot of fun to drive and it has lots of power,” said Tim, who receives requests about every five minutes from people wanting to take it for a cruise around the city. “It means a lot to have a vehicle like this. Shelby was
SHELBY COBRA

known as one of the top car designers. I met him and went to his 80th birthday party at the Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale, Arizona several years ago
FUN FACTS
For 1967, a new chassis was required, developed, and designated Mark III. The new car was designed in cooperation with Ford in Detroit. A new chassis was built using four inch (101.6 mm) main chassis tubes, up from three (76.2 mm) and coil spring suspension all around. The new car also had wide fenders and a larger radiator opening. It was powered by the “side oiler” Ford 427 cubic inch (7.0 Litre) FE engine equipped with a single 4-barrel 780 CFM Holley carburetor rated at 425 hp at 6,000 rpm, which provided a top speed of 164 mph (264 km/h) in the standard model and 485 hp with a top speed of 185 mph (298 km/h) in the competition model. Some Cobra 427s were actually fitted with Ford’s 428 cubic inches (7.01 L) engine, a long stroke, smaller bore, lower cost engine, intended for road use rather than racing. The AC Cobra was a financial failure that led Ford and Carroll Shelby to discontinue importing cars from England in 1967. Shelby was an American automotive designer, racing driver and entrepreneur. Shelby is best known for his involvement with the AC Cobra and Mustang (later known as Shelby Mustangs) for Ford Motor Company, which he modified during the late 1960s.
(2003). I wish he could have signed it, but that won’t happen now,” said Tim. Carroll Shelby died in 2012 after having a successful racing career, designing cars for all three major United States car companies and being elected into the Motorsports Hall of Fame. “It’s just a fun car to drive, like a big go-cart. An original would have been nice, but the last one sold for $2 million, so this is the next best thing. I can afford to drive this one. I have to drive it to have fun and use it. If I had the real one it would be parked and I wouldn’t get the same enjoyment out of it,” Tim revealed. “I actually had one before and I’ve had a lot of cars since I was a teenager. I love old cars and this one is a classic for sure. It really drives nice down the highway. You don’t get the wind on you like you can on some cars.”
Tim plans to refrain from making changes to the Cobra. “I’m just going to enjoy driving it and go to a few car shows. I tend to have fun with the vehicles
for awhile and then move on to something different.” He is planning to enter the Round Hill Harvest Show and Shine on Sunday, Sept. 1.

Workshops promote Building Capacity for Reconciliation By Lori Larsen
The University of Alberta Augustana Campus is once again presenting workshops in Building Capacity for Reconciliation program and invites members of the public to sit alongside Augustana students, staff and faculty. The six workshops will take place in the evenings beginning September running through to March of 2020. Anyone interested in learning more about historic and current experiences of Indigenous Peoples in Canada are welcome to attend. “We are excited to include members of the public again this year,” said University of Alberta Augustana Campus Indigenous Student Services director Megan Caldwell. Different topics, linked to broad themes stemming from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Final report and 94 Calls to Action will be examined each month. “Although the program is in part designed to explore how Augustana can be a leader in reconciliation at the post-secondary level, these workshops will also build participants’ personal capacities to engage in reconciliation work in both their jobs and their wider lives,” explained Caldwell. The workshop series will kick off with a session just for registered participants, featuring a lecture from Dr. Daniel Sims, and working
through the experiential KAIRSO Blanket Exercise. Other workshop highlights include: Piikani archaeology with Dr. Eldon Yellowhorn; a presentation on the Maskwacis Education Schools Commission with superintendent Brian Wildcat and others; understanding the meaning behind beadwork with author Gregory Scofield and others; and in partnership with the Jeanne and Peter Lougheed Performing Arts Centre, two workshops featuring performers from two of their offerings this year: Unikkaaqtuat and Mission Songs Project. Participants registered in the workshops program can become eligible to receive a co-curricular Certificate in Building Capacity for Reconciliation from Augustana. Non-registered participants are welcome to attend the series of public talks that will be part of this program. For more information (including a registration form) visit www.ualberta.ca/ augustana/services/indigenous/workshops. Registration is limited and spaces for staff, faculty, students, and community members are capped by group. Registrations will be open until September 11 at 4 p.m. For inquiries regarding the workshops program, registration, or the selection process, contact Megan Caldwell at email augustana.reconciliation@ ualberta.ca or by telephone at 780-679-1562.

We thank you for your interest in this feature and encourage your comments. Not left vs. right
This next election is not going to be about left vs. right. It has to be more about top vs. bottom because the extreme difference in income between the top earners in society and the rest of us has become dangerous. According to the CRA, Canadians are hiding approximately $240 billion overseas and not declaring it, which translates into $14.6 billion in lost federal taxes. Meanwhile, consumer debt in Canada is at an all-time high. When consumers stop being able to pay their debts because of a stagnating economy, we all fall off a financial cliff. Pundits say that the next crisis will be longer and more severe than the Great Depression. I don’t know about you, but I’d really like to avoid that. So, in the next election, I am voting for whoever promises to make the rich pay their fair share of taxes, especially on money that is languishing overseas doing nothing. I support a progressive tax where the richer you are, the higher percentage tax rate you pay (especially considering that it was our labour, or access to our publicly-owned resources, that made those folks rich in the first place). The next election is also going to be about survival, pure and simple. In the past few years, I have cut way back on the cattle I feed sometimes because of drought and this year, because I am not entirely sure it’s ever going to be dry enough to get hay off. If things keep on this way, we are going to end up with food shortages, or at least very expensive food that only the rich will be able to afford. If we don’t do something fast, it’s only going to get worse. This summer, Greenland lost ice that wasn’t supposed to melt for another 70
years. Scientists are saying that we have less than 10 years to get carbon emissions under control, which means we have to start a fast transition right now. If we don’t, the weather here becomes so volatile that we can no longer grow food or escape wildfires, tornados, droughts and floods. How are we going to pay for that transition? Well, I think that the $14.6 billion owed to us by rich Canadians is a pretty good start. Today is not like yesterday and tomorrow will definitely be different from today. So I am going to leave the old politics behind and vote for whichever party is actually going to do whatever it takes to keep my family safe and secure. Nora Abercrombie, Beaver County Good plastic?
You recently ran a guest editorial extolling the virtues of plastic in all forms, and pushing back against a campaign called Plastic Free July. I think the author was helping accomplish exactly what PFJ was aiming for: raising awareness about the ubiquitousness of plastics, and asking challenging questions about their use/ abuse. At the end, he indicates he’ll be back with “another perspective”. Nonetheless, I’m compelled to respond, in case some of the statements go unchallenged. The goal for this campaign is to get people to eliminate single-use plastics for the month, and perhaps see how much of that plastic they might be able to eliminate all the time. I find no references to boycotting items that one might need for every day health, work, transportation (or space exploration, for that matter). Of course, plastics
have drastically improved the quality of life for most people around the world, and there are many invaluable uses for plastics that should continue if we wish to remain civilized cultures. But Mr. Malone’s first column ignores another obvious aspect: human beings, in their quest for comfort and convenience, have created a monster. There are no viable methods to truly recycle plastic! Instead, those few plastics that we can truly find a way to use again are really “down-cycled” into items which cannot themselves be recycled and still end up either in landfills or incinerators. Very little of our plastic actually gets recycled (only about 11 per cent in Canada), and even that figure may be suspect now that the countries that used to accept our plastics are refusing to, as they are unable to process the vast amounts of waste coming their way and are left with the burden of landfill or incineration and all the toxic results. Why do we need to use a plastic fork that took vital resources to make and transport to only be used once, then lasts hundreds of years in a landfill? Instead of digging in our heels, ask yourself: “Is this necessary? Is there a better way to get what I need/want without waste or toxins?” On a corporate/ societal level, we should also be insisting that those who create items have a plan for their disposal that does not involve polluting the land, air or water that we all have a right to enjoy and an obligation to pass on. Horst Nendsa It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Horst Friedrich Nendsa of Camrose, Alberta announces his peaceful passing at St. Mary’s Hospital in Camrose at the age of 81. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Ingeborg; sons Norman (Pauline), Gordon (Kim) and Chris (Charlotte); grandchildren Roger (Michelle), Troy, Sophia, Margret, Sebastian and Alexander; great-grandchildren Tessa, Clark, Edith and Leona (Roger); and his brother Hans (Carmen). Horst was predeceased by his parents Karl and Margareta; granddaughter Marie(Norman); and sister Christa. Horst was a loving husband, father, grandfather, greatgrandfather and a hardworking man, always helping others, whenever he was asked or needed. Horst was born on August 29, 1937 in Buchen, Germany to Karl and Margareta Nendsa. In 1954, at the age of 17, he left Germany to join his father in Medicine Hat, Alberta. Horst travelled on a ship called the “Seven Seas” to Quebec City. He continued his journey by train to Medicine Hat, where he worked for two years for Canadian Pacific Railways. In 1956, he accepted a job with Discovery Mines, 84 km north of Yellowknife, NT. In 1960, Horst travelled to Germany to finally meet Ingeborg, his penpal and the love of his life. They were married on a beautiful June day in 1960 in Munich, Germany, and made their home in Discovery. Horst started his career as a mechanic and, while in Discovery, they welcomed two sons, Norman and Gordon. Their third son, Christopher, was born in 1967. In 1965, Horst moved his family to Yellowknife and started a job with Con Mines. He worked at “Con” for 34 years, first as a mechanic and then as the Central Shop Supervisor. Horst enjoyed fishing, boating, camping, cross country skiing and watching Hockey Night in Canada. Two years after he retired, he became very ill and the family thought he would not survive. Horst had a different plan. His health started to improve and so did his spirits. He and Ingeborg moved to Camrose, Alberta. Horst and Ingeborg enjoyed visits with family, gardening and each other’s company. A memorial service will be held at Weber’s Mount Pleasant Chapel in Camrose, AB at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 21, 2019. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Kidney Foundation.

Helpful Tips for Writing Classified Ads Which Get Results! Be Thorough
Sure you want your ad to stand out from the rest, but don’t skimp on the sort of information that sells. The item’s condition, size, age, brand name, and colour are some of the basics readers want to know. Without them, your ad may be overlooked.
Steer Clear of Abbreviations
Okay, so you want to include all the important basics. Don’t use strange abbreviations because our ads are designed to spell all the important details. Besides, you are not paying by the line, but by the word, so there is really no need to abbreviate.
Be Honest
Exaggerating your item’s finer points may bring in a lot of responses, but a buyer who’s misled won’t appreciate it and will take his business somewhere else.
State Your Price
The cost of an item is one of the most important concerns of want ad readers. Ads showing prices are ones which get results. Giving a price also serves to “weed out” those buyers not in your price range.
Be Accessible
Including a telephone number or address puts you in touch with potential buyers. Be sure to state the hours you can be reached: a caller who can’t get through the first time often won’t call again.
Don’t hesitate to call us with any questions or problems you may have regarding advertising. Our professionally trained sales staff know the ropes, and would be happy to pass their know-how on to you. That’s why we’re here to help you get the results you deserve.

Free mobile mammogram By Lori Larsen
According to the Canadian Cancer Society 2017 statistics, 26,300 women were diagnosed with breast cancer, 5,000 women died from breast cancer and an average of 72 Canadian women were diagnosed with breast cancer every day. The numbers are a wake up call to all women, maybe it is time to get a mammogram. The mobile breast cancer screening unit will be coming to Camrose on Sept. 3 to 6 providing free screenings at 4512 53 Street. Screening mammogram is a special X-ray of your breast that can detect breast cancer at very early stages when lumps are very small, usually two to three years before you or your doctors can feel anything. Early detection of breast cancer means better treatment and statistics prove that most women, about 90 per cent, now survive breast cancer five years after diagnosis. If you are a woman 50 years and older you should have a mammogram every two years and may selfrefer. Women aged 40 to 49 should discuss the risks and benefits of breast cancer screening with their doctor, and will require a referral for their first appointment. Alberta Health Services provides the following myths and facts about breast cancer screening. Myth 1: Only women with a family history of breast cancer will get it. The truth is, 80 per cent of women who develop breast cancer have no family history. Myth 2: Mammograms can cause breast cancer or cause an existing cancer to spread. Mammograms require very small doses of radiation. Research confirms that the risk of harm from radiation exposure by mammography is very low. Myth 3: Monthly selfbreast exams is the best way to find breast cancer. What is most important is that women know how their breasts normally look and feel–from the whole area of breast tissue up to the collarbone and including the armpit. While it is not necessary to have a regimented method for checking your breasts, telephone your healthcare provider right away if you notice any unusual changes. For more information, visit www.screeningfor life.ca. To book a mammogram screen test, telephone toll free 1-800-667-0604.

Central Agencies Home of the Week
Newly upgraded Victoria Park home
By Lori Larsen
The five-bedroom Victoria Park home with recent upgrades that include modern paint colours and gorgeous vinyl plank flooring is the perfect home to settle in with the family. The open living/dining area with large bay windows allows for warm natural light and is the perfect location for a cozy reading nook. A beautiful gas fireplace adds to the warmth of the living area and is an inviting place for gathering with family and friends. Adjacent to the living room is a space that could be used as a formal dining area, home office space or extend the living room to include a family area. The wide open kitchen has plenty of cabinets and counter space and a good-sized window brings even more natural light into the home. Just off the kitchen is a spacious eating area, perfect for family dinners and a great place for children to sit and do homework or craft projects while dinner is being prepared.
Patio doors lead off the kitchen area to a covered two-tier deck overlooking the completely fenced and landscaped backyard. Two bedrooms, a four-piece bathroom all accompany the master suite on the main floor. Younger children can have their own rooms, but still be close to the master suite which has its own four-piece en suite and walk-in closet. The living continues downstairs in the completely finished basement featuring a huge family room, two more bedrooms, a fourpiece bathroom and a large laundry room. This well-maintained home is located at 6001-54A Avenue and offers all you need at a great value of $349,000.
