Killam RCMP involved in shooting By Lori Larsen
On Dec. 29 at approximately 3:15 a.m. on Township Road 410 and Range Road 125, Killam RCMP were involved in a vehicle pursuit that ended with the suspect ramming the police vehicle rendering it inoperable. At approximately 5:20 p.m., Killam RCMP assisted by Provost and Wainwright RCMP and East-
ern Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit attempted to apprehend a male suspect when a confrontation occurred that resulted in RCMP officers discharging their service weapons. Prior to this, the RCMP were pursuing a suspect vehicle on Highway 13 near Hardisty. The vehicle was believed to be the same vehicle involved in an earli-

er incident with the Killam RCMP. The adult male suspect, sole occupant of the suspect vehicle, was treated on scene by EMS and transported to an Edmonton hospital in serious condition. An ASIRT news release announced the suspect died later that night. The RCMP members involved were not injured.

What would it take for a happy new decade
This issue of The Booster being published on the last day of the second decade of the 21st century seems like it ought to be remarkable in some way. As we head into our twenties decade, it sometimes seems there is more darkness than light and it’s not just the darkness of our winter season. The voices of anger, incivility, greed and divisiveness sound louder than the voices of kindness, courtesy, gratitude and recognition of our common humanity on a small precious planet. This much I have learned in more than seven decades. The loudest, the biggest, the most bullying, the seeming strongest, can indeed exert power. In war and in ordinary human relations, the ones with the biggest “weapons” can certainly cause others to surrender. But surrender does not mean peace. Surrender does not mean victory. So what do I wish for the next decade? More precisely, where can we find hope for the next decade? Two stories come to mind. Story #1: I once had the gift of an evening with two self-described “dashing middle aged men” who I hadn’t seen since they were in their early teens and I was in my late twenties. They told me stories about their lives and the lives of their friends I’d known as teenagers. Most memorably, they told me stories of things I’d said or done that they remembered, that influenced them in some way. The punchline: I had no memory whatsoever of those incidents. Story #2: A teenage boy grew up in a violent abusive home and witnessed his mother being beaten by his father. An angry young man, he was mad at the world. One day he was caught shoplifting. In the store manager’s office, he was interviewed by a police officer. At the end of the interview, the police officer asked, “How old did you say you were?” “Sixteen.” “Got a driver’s license?” the police officer asked. “Yeah.” The police officer said, “You must be proud. Takes some brains to get a driver’s license.” Years later, telling the story with tears in his eyes, the now man said, “I went away more confused than I’d ever been in my life. I was mad because I got caught. But it was the first time in my life anyone ever said anything nice about me. That I had some brains.” For the first time, it occurred to him that he could do something besides end up in jail. In his early thirties, he was a man you’d be proud to know, intentional about every aspect of his life. Somewhere in Canada there’s a retired police officer who probably doesn’t know he changed a kid’s life with a moment of treating him with respect. As we head into the next decade, some days it seems there is more darkness than light, more fanning the flames of anger than seeking the basis for understanding, more cheering on of rudeness and meanness than of courtesy and kindness. We have big challenges, not just in our province and our country but on our planet. One hundred years ago, people weren’t pummelled every day by more bits and bytes of new information than previous generations experienced in a lifetime. They hadn’t yet learned that the earth has finite limits to how much pollution it can absorb before entire species – including eventually humanity – could be wiped out. “Overpowering” tactics are not going to resolve our challenges. In those moments when we personally are able to rise above anger and resentment (however justified), move past our fear and the desire to fend off what is different and uncomfortable, may we extend kindness and courtesy and a desire to understand. In a dark room, if you light even a tiny candle, the little flame can chase away most of the darkness. Let’s do what we can to bring light into the next decade. We never know when it’s our moment to change somebody’s life – a moment we may never even remember. ***

On Dec. 17, I saw an article in the Camrose Booster regarding an announcement by Doug Schweitzer, Alberta Minister of Justice and Solicitor General stating that $286 million new money will be injected into rural policing services by 2023. The wording of the government announcement gives the impression that this money is being invested by the provincial government. However, a CBC news release on Dec. 3, on the CBC website states ‘the federal government will be contributing $86 million and Municipalities will be contributing $200 million in total by 2023.’ This surprisingly adds up to $286 million. The provincial government will be adding nothing. I don’t see how that actually helps us besides dramatically raising taxes on rural landowners. I also don’t see how this gives this provincial government the right to claim any of the credit for this initiative. The fancy wording is misleading if these numbers are correct. This is also somewhat disturbing when this wording is coming out of the mouth of our minister of justice. A more truthful statement would be that the federal government and the municipalities will be working together on increasing funding to reduce rural crime. Brian L. Nelson, Ohaton Beat goes on
Feelings of disenfranchisement and frustration following the last federal election has re-awakened western separation and WEXIT. Long standing western alienation is based upon the recognition that the West contributes more than 37 per cent of Canada’s GDP but is represented by only 22 per cent of seats in the House of Commons (2018 StatsCan data). Little progress has been made to redress the perceived inequalities. Westerners sending Liberals and Conservatives and NDP/CCF to Ottawa have not improved the lot of western Canadians. The election of Reform and Alliance MPs in the 1990s and the unholy alliance of Conservatives and Reform under Stephen Harper failed to produce anticipated, favorable results. In addition, Harper’s electoral promise of a major overhaul of the equalization formula resulted only in a minor tweak that actually improved the fortunes of Ontario and Quebec.
The west is largely ignored by the Liberals, taken for granted by the Conservatives and yet both parties, enforced by the party whip and the increasingly powerful PMO tend to favour Ontario and Quebec who collectively contribute 56 per cent of GDP, but garner more than 60 per cent of seats in the House of Commons. Blind political partisanship has created virtually unworkable and uncompromising positions in the Canadian political milieu; e.g., westerners have vilified Pierre Trudeau for the infamous National Energy Plan. In reality, eminent Canadian historian Robert Bothwell cites the plan was conceived by Ontario Premier Bill Davis and PM Joe Clark; while Premier Lougheed nixed their proposal. NEP would have come into existence after the 1980 election regardless of which party won the election. Neither party spoke for Alberta. Isn’t it timely for the West to steal a page out of the Quebec Bloc play book and establish a centrist regional party whose representatives in the House of Commons would hold the balance of power in a minority government? Minority governments would require a sizeable measure of cooperation between all parties where reasonable MPs, free from the yoke of their party whip, could produce legislation for the good of all parts of Canada. Advantages might be… (i) much sought after electoral reform with more free votes and reduction of absolute concentration of power in the PMO, (ii) abolition of illogical omnibus bills, (iii) avoiding poorly drafted bills which are ruled unconstitutional. Such a strategy would provide substantive political clout to western Canada’s needs. Would this notion sell to voters? Lynn Clark, Camrose Increased production
I feel that I must react to the significant criticism by Mr. Arnold Malone of Greta Thunberg, the 16-year-old climate activist from Scandinavia who made an emotional presentation to the General Assembly of the United Nations in September. I often read Mr. Malone’s guest editorials and I occasionally agree with his conclusions, but in this case we are miles apart. I watched Ms. Thunberg’s presentation on the Internet. It was a very passionate appeal to
the generations(us) who created this emissions debacle to begin remedial action to allow the global temperature to remain within 1.5 degrees Celsius of the current level to prevent irreversible and catastrophic climate change. She finds it unbelievable that the people who created all of this carbon emitting technology are now unwilling to believe the science that suggests that time is running out on the allowable rate and level of carbon emissions. At one point Mr. Malone made the statement that our generation has not sat idle. I certainly would agree with him on that point except it is on that point that we completely part company. He goes on to demonstrate how we idolize technology and efficiency and with that idolization we actually think that we are helping to solve the emissions problem. He suggests that we have created fuel efficient cars and airplanes and homes and various other things. What Mr. Malone forgets is the “Jevon theory” and how in actuality when we create or invent a technological efficiency we actually accelerate carbon emissions, rather than decrease them. Let me demonstrate that important point with a couple of examples. In the case of vehicles we have enhanced fuel efficiency somewhat, but instead of total fuel consumption dropping it has sky rocketed because the number of vehicles sold has increased almost exponentially. We have made airplanes more fuel efficient, but fuel consumption for airline travel has sky rocketed because now anyone can afford a plane trip and global plane travel had increased exponentially. We have made technological gadgets like cell phones and computers affordable and convenient. Sales again have sky rocketed causing emissions from the production of those gadgets to sky rocket. The list of examples is longer than my arm. In conclusion, I think that Mr. Malone felt hurt because Ms. Thunberg was not respecting her elders. He made that quite obvious in his remarks. I am sorry Mr. Malone if you feel slighted, but try to imagine how Greta feels. She did not contribute personally to any of the emissions creating the problem, but her whole life is about wallowing in the sludge that has been left behind. Ken Eshpeter, Daysland

Chicago set designers ready to dazzle stage By Murray Green
A little more glitter and glamour will be added to the set design of the Churchmice Players’ upcoming show Chicago. The Broadway blockbuster premiered in 1975 and was the hit of the 1997 Broadway season. Chicago won six Tony Awards including Best Revival and later the Academy Award as Best Picture of the Year. “I work in school administration, so I helped with set design for plays and Christmas concerts. I have a drafting background, so I like to design things,” said set designer Todd Sikorski. “I got back into helping with the Churchmice in Mamma Mia! and did some acting as well as set design. I loved the ABBA music and production. It is something I have always enjoyed doing. I prefer to be backstage and see where the magic happens. Acting is fun, but if I had to pick one, it would be backstage. I find set design fun because you can transform anything into a set design,” he explained. “In the last show, I was asked to paint the set and ended up changing the set and props to match the layout at the Bailey Theatre. We had to make adjustments because of the size and ended up borrowing some pieces from Leduc,” said Addams family props manager Wendy Wenig, who is helping out with Chicago as well. She first started with Churchmice Players with On Golden Pond, when she was asked to paint a mural for the set. “We had to design the gate for the crypt in The Addams Family. We had to make the framework for it and paint it to make it look
like concrete as much as we could.” Performance dates in February are on the 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 13th, 14th, 15th and 16th at the Jeanne and Peter Lougheed Performing Arts Centre. Both of the designers recently attended a set design course in Canmore on Nov. 30. “We were told by our instructor (Anton deGroot of Ambrose University in Calgary) that you have to convince the audience within the first 10 minutes that the space you have created is believable. You have to convince the audience that the chair being used as a prop is in an airplane. That is the kind of work you have to do,” added Todd. “When we heard about this course, we wanted to sign up for it right away. He talked a lot about the creative process and it was very affirming that through our experiences, we follow that creative process. We need to do research, look at images and listen to the music to be inspired in order to come up with some of our concepts. With Chicago, art deco was strong with black, gold and silver, so we started with those colours in our concepts. He talked about communication. You have to communicate with props, people, actors and producers in order to create sets and changes as you go.” The instructor gave them an 18-step process to use as a checklist. “I wrote them all down. It covers everything from dating the script to designing models,” shared Wendy. “It covers making adjustments right up to opening night. Continued on page 7

Design is the intention, use and communication of purpose and material to form an original creation.” Each script has challenges to create the right mood. “Chicago is hyper reality and is not intended to be a straight drama. It has some dark themes to it with murder and adultery, but it is done in a very vaudeville style. In set design, I’m thinking very glossy and dazzling. It is a show within a show. It has a lot of humour,” said Todd. “We went over lighting as well–how to create light to set moods and create secondary visuals with shadows,” added Wendy. “Our first set design is not what people will see in the play. Sometimes you are pleasantly surprised and in other cases, you wish you would have done something differently,” said Todd. The production team includes producer Theo Thirsk, director Scot Lorenson, choreographer Dustin Muise, choral director Carolyn Olsen, band coordinator Art Fadum, set designer Todd Sikorski, costume designer Peggy Noble-Cappie and production advisor Dave McDougall. the Seniors Advocate will be transferred to Health Advocates to support this change. The Alberta Health Advocates can be reached at 780-422-1812 or online at albertahealthadvocates. ca. This transition aligns with the completion of Dr. Sheree Kwong See’s secondment from the University of Alberta and the expiration of her appointment as Seniors Advocate at the end of this year. “I would like to thank Dr. Kwong See for her service to seniors and their families, and wish her well as she returns to teaching and her academic career. The decision to combine offices is a thoughtful and prudent decision and will help seniors and those supporting them access services easily in one place,” said Josephine Pon, minister of seniors and housing. “Our government values seniors and we’re putting a high priority on increasing access to continuing care and other services they need. CITY OF
New outlook on resolutions By Lori Larsen
With the ringing in of the new year comes a barrage of New Year’s resolutions, promises, goals and sometimes dreams often intended on making the New Year the best year yet. Unfortunately, despite the best of intentions, more often than not those resolutions meet with early dissolution, sometimes leaving behind a sense of failure. This year, perhaps consider making your resolutions simpler but more important, measurable in ways you can only imagine, simple resolutions that have the potential to impact not only your life in a positive way, but the lives of others. Invest your time wisely. When you think you have no time for a walk or quick exercise in a day, think back to how you spent your time and tally it up. You may be surprised, not pleasantly, at where you wasted time. Those minutes you will never get back, so ensure you are getting a maximum return on your investment. Focus on your language. Words are very powerful and once said or written, are hard to retract. They can lift spirits or dampen hope. They can be kind and thoughtful or cruel and thoughtless.
Consider adapting the old adage of “think before you speak or write”. The results could save you and others a world of hurt, whether intended or not. Focus on gratitude not latitude. Think of the wonderful things you have, not what is still yet to get. Energy can be wasted running up and down after something instead of appreciating what is right before your eyes. Contemplate others’ opinions. The need to be right all the time can be exhausting. Listening to others and valuing their opinion can be beneficial in providing a diverse way of looking at matters. Labelling office files is a necessary task, but labelling people, experiences or events in our lives can create unnecessary prejudgement that do not “fit” what is being labeled. Taking things at face value and appreciating that it is the difference that creates uniqueness opens our eyes to potential. O rga n ize you r thoughts and your life. Clutter equates to stress and when left to grow can develop into unhealthy results. Messy spaces lead to chaotic minds and eventually become overwhelming. Take small steps in organizing and repurpos-

ing your spaces, which will in turn create clear paths for your thoughts. View challenges as opportunities to learn, grow and aspire. This applies to people you may find challenging as well. Stepping back and recognizing that how we feel about the situation or person is more often about us, forces us to revaluate and react in a more positive fashion. Breathe. As simple as that may seem, in a world of hurried decisions, instant gratification and “push comes to shove”, taking a moment to breathe a deep meaningful breath has the potential to lower heart rates and allow us to regroup. Oxygen is, after all, life. Lastly, perhaps most importantly, spread joy. The Christmas season is often associated with joy and blessedness, but there is no time like the present of everyday to bring joy to yourself and to others. It could be a sincere hello or a simple smile, but it may be the first of that person’s day, and has the potential to ripple great distances. Whatever your 2020 resolutions, whether they are great or small, understand that even the simplest gestures or changes can have powerful impact.

Dwight Biggar, a resident of Camrose, is this year’s winner of the always-popular Downtown Camrose Christmas Stamp Around promotion. He describes himself as a regular Nutters Everyday Naturals shopper. It was iin thi this place l off business where he deposited a number of completed entries in the month of December. Dwight’s name was pulled from the combined thousands of entries from purchases made at 59 diverse Downtown Camrose businesses during the six-week shop local promotion. He quickly made up his mind to use $500 of this win for additional purchases at Nutters. In the true spirit of the season, he asked the contest hosts – Downtown Camrose (Business Association), The Camrose Booster and Camrose NOW! – to forward the remaining $1,000 of his win to NeighborAid Center, operators of Camrose Food Bank. It is his wish that this money will be spent at Wild Rose Co-op grocery store or other Downtown Camrose places of business to help replenish the shelves with items currently in need by screened users of the local food bank.

St. Mary’s Hospital to charge for parking in New Year By Murray Green
Covenant Health St. Mary’s Hospital Camrose will be charging for parking in the New Year. There will be one payment kiosk set up within the parking lot and one kiosk station will be located inside the main entrance of the hospital. The kiosks will require
you to enter your license plate number and payment methods accepted are credit card or cash. You will not have to walk back to your vehicle to display your receipt. Long stay patients and patients requiring frequent treatment will receive a reduced rate. These passes can be purchased at the information desk inside the
main entrance of St. Mary’s and they will be issued with an expiry date. “This change will make visitor parking at the hospital more available to our valued patrons, and will support the costs of regular maintenance, asphalt and concrete repairs and snow removal in our parking lots,”
said Cherylyn Antymniuk, site administrator at St. Mary’s. A third party company will be patrolling the parking lot at random intervals throughout the week. Failure to pay for parking at St. Mary’s Hospital may result in a fine for illegal parking or your vehicle may be towed. “We would like to take
this time to remind the Camrose community to refrain from parking in the fire lane by the hospital entrance, as those who are parked there for more than five minutes may be ticketed or towed. Pick up and drop off of patients with mobility issues can be done in the ambulance bay,” added Antymniuk.

As much as the coming of a new year is a time to look forward to an exciting and uncertain future, it is also a time to look back and reflect on what has happened over the past year. It has been an interesting year in the news provincially, nationally and even internationally. It has also been a year filled with touching stories, important milestones, and significant issues locally. Here’s how those top stories unfolded this year in the pages of The Camrose Booster. 1 – With the Christmas season winding up and the glint of New Year’s celebration in many eyes, residents are advised to be smart and stay safe whilst taking in festivities.
1 – The Battle River Quilters’ Guild presented 124 quilts to various organizations throughout the community before the holiday season at the Bethel Lutheran Church. On behalf of BRQG president Joanne Geertz, second from left, presented 46 quilts to Lynn Horsman, left, and Nora-Lee Rear of the Camrose Women’s Shelter to share with families. 1 – Radio announcer Larry Donohue has been entertaining country music fans in the Camrose area for the past 35 years. His last day at CFCW was on Dec. 21. 8 – The Camrose Wildrose Outdoor Club hosted an informal gathering to discuss planning for 2019 events that engage communities along the entire Battle River, from headwaters at Battle Lake to Battleford, on Jan. 14 at the Camrose Heritage Railway Station, 4707-47 Street.
15 – If you have ever had someone pay forward a random act of kindness, you are likely aware of the wonderful, albeit surprising feeling it leaves with you–the feeling that there is someone out there in this big world who cares. Local resident Lindsey Sweeney is one of those people.

Shirley Marie Johnson March 23, 1942 ~ December 17, 2019 Shirley Marie Johnson of Camrose, Alberta passed away on Tuesday, December 17, 2019, at the age of 77 years after her seven-year journey with cancer. Shirley was born on March 23, 1942, to Margaret and Brian Davis of Rose Valley, Saskatchewan. The third child of five, she lived with her family on the family farm. She attended a one-room school until Grade Nine, then completed her high school in Rose Valley. She went on to receive an education degree which led her to Camrose, Alberta in 1965, where she taught elementary school and there she met her future husband Dennis. They married on August 24, 1968. Dennis and Shirley started their family in 1974 with a beautiful baby boy, Greg, and completed it with the arrival of a spunky daughter, Marnie, in 1976. She took a break from teaching in order to care for her family and during this time, she opened a craft store in downtown Camrose. Six years later, she returned to teaching Grade Two and Three. Among her fondest memories are teaching recorder, school field trips to the zoo and different creatures that she kept in the classroom. She had a special place in her heart for all her students. She retired in 1997 after teaching for a total of 28 years. Shirley had a zest for life and took every opportunity to learn. After retiring from teaching, she got her realtor’s license, her healthcare aid certificate and took numerous other courses. She loved to spend time with her family, often visiting with her mother. She enjoyed her grandchildren, spending countless hours babysitting, providing meals, teaching and supporting them through all the different phases of life … everything from practicing the alphabet to filling out college applications. Her home was always open to them and she was always available to lend a helping hand and made it look effortless. Shirley had an eye for detail and was a perfectionist with everything that she did. She was an avid quilter and gardener, loved decorating her home, spent time crafting, bird watching and baking. Traveling was another of her passions that she enjoyed throughout her life. She travelled with friends as a young college girl, with family as a mother and after retirement with friends and family. She volunteered with the Grateful Grannies, at the Bailey Theatre and at her church when her health would allow. Left to cherish Shirley’s memories are her loving husband Dennis; two children Greg (Angela) Johnson and Marnie (Dallas) Barkman; grandchildren Chelsea and Tyler Barkman, Tristan Halverson, and Rylan and Kane Johnson. She is also survived by her siblings Clarence (Pat) Davis, Jean (Andy) Prophet, Lorne (Linda) Davis and Gerry (Cathy) Davis; and numerous nieces, nephews and in-laws. Shirley was predeceased by her parents Margaret and Brian Davis and parents-in-law Elizabeth and Marvin Johnson. A Funeral Service was held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, December 23, 2019 from the Messiah Lutheran Church, with Rev. Bev Swanson officiating. Interment has taken place in the Valleyview Cemetery, Camrose. If family and friends so desire, memorial contributions in Shirley’s memory may be made to St. Mary’s Hospital Foundation, Multiple Myeloma Research Phone 780-672-2121 Foundation - MMRF or to the Stephen Lewis Foundation “Dedicated service since 1906” (the Grateful Grannies). Bernhard Karl Baron von Tettenborn December 18, 1934 ~ December 22, 2019 Bernhard Karl Baron von Tettenborn of Round Hill, Alberta, passed away on Sunday, December 22, 2019 at the age of 85. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Gladys; his four children Bernhard (Cheryl) von Tettenborn, Doris von Tettenborn (Ross Vogt), Eric (Melanie) von Tettenborn and Carmine von Tettenborn; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three siblings Iris (Marlin) Goebel, Elizabeth (Ian) Angus and Linda von Tettenborn; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by an infant son Walter (1964), brother Mark (Sandy) (2013) and son-in-law Wayne Shumlich (2017). Bernie was born on the family farm, the first of five children and the latest in a very long line of ‘Bernhard Karl Baron von Tettenborns’, able to trace his history back to the year of 1176. He was raised in and went to school in the Rimbey district until grade 9, then attended Concordia College for high school and Olds College to study agriculture. In 1954, he moved to Drayton Valley to work for Crown Lumber and then started a trucking company, building up to nine trucks servicing the oilfield, hauling fuel from Edmonton to Hay River, NWT, and stations in between, and hauling vehicles from Oshawa, ON, out west. He met Gladys in Drayton Valley and they married in 1957. In 1958, they bought three quarters east of Round Hill, renting them out while they followed business opportunities in Whitecourt and Saskatoon. In 1968, the trucking company was sold and trucks were traded for farming equipment so that he could start farming. In 1973, Bernie moved his family to Round Hill to farm permanently. Dad was a very knowledgeable and industrious man; while running the trucking company, he built three winch decks with disappearing fifth wheels and live rolls and three highboys using his own welder. While farming, he built his own 36’ tandem disc, harrow draw bars, reconstructed a Belarus tractor and, in later years, restored a number of stationary engines and tractors. Bernie held a private pilot’s license as well as a heavy duty mechanic’s license. In 1990, the family received the Camrose County Farm Family Award. Bernie believed in giving back to the community and volunteered for numerous organizations ranging from Scouts to Church. He assisted Scout leaders, was a Sunday School teacher and President of the Parish Council. Over the years, there were attempts to mine the coal around the Round Hill area, so he became a founding member of the Round Hill-Dodds Agricultural Protective Association in 1974; this issue came up again in 2006. Some of the other organizations were Round Hill and District Agricultural Society, Unifarm, Alberta Wheat Pool, Agricore United and Alberta Surface Rights Federation. For fun, Bernie and Gladys were members of the Rose City Swingers for 36 years and drove all over Alberta, going to dances and summer campouts. Bernie was surrounded by Gladys, their children, spouses and a few grandchildren as he ‘made his passage out of this world and into the next’. Everyone had a chance to say goodbye. There were volunteer carolers in the palliative care unit singing outside his hospital door, “Oh Come All Ye Faithful”; his lips and tongue moved as he sang along in his mind. We requested his favourite carol, “Joy to the World”, and his favourite hymn, “Holy, Holy, Holy”. The carollers sang as our dad went to be with his Lord. A funeral service will be held on January 4, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at Messiah Lutheran Church in Camrose. Interment will follow at the Emil Bosmans Cemetery at Round Hill. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are gratefully accepted to the charity of one’s choice.

Helpful Tips for Writing Classified Ads Which Get Results! Sure you want your ad to stand out from the rest, but don’t skimp on the sort of information that sells. The item’s condition, size, age, brand name, and colour are some of the basics readers want to know. Without them, your ad may be overlooked. Okay, so you want to include all the important basics. Don’t use strange abbreviations because our ads are designed to spell all the important details. Besides, you are not paying by the line, but by the word, so there is really no need to abbreviate.
Be Honest
Exaggerating your item’s finer points may bring in a lot of responses, but a buyer who’s misled won’t appreciate it and will take his business somewhere else.
State Your Price
The cost of an item is one of the most important concerns of want ad readers. Ads showing prices are ones which get results. Giving a price also serves to “weed out” those buyers not in your price range.
Be Accessible
Including a telephone number or address puts you in touch with potential buyers. Be sure to state the hours you can be reached: a caller who can’t get through the first time often won’t call again.
Don’t hesitate to call us with any questions or problems you may have regarding advertising. Our professionally trained sales staff know the ropes, and would be happy to pass their know-how on to you. That’s why we’re here to help you get the results you deserve.
