The Battle River Community Foundation recently awarded $5,425 in grants to SOS Camrose (Service Options for Seniors).
The grants are from income from the Sue and By Reesor Fund and the Foundation’s Community Funds. The grants provide $425 in discretionary funding to be used by SOS in the area most needed, and $5,000 to support additional staffing for the Outreach Program.
“The SOS Program is the grateful recipient of many generous community donations,” commented SOS program coordinator Christina Rehmann. “As a non-profit organization, it is literally our lifeblood.”
Since 2004, SOS has been helping seniors with everything from supported access to financial programs, medical transportation and free income tax filing to troubleshooting aids to daily living and providing an elder safe haven and even food security.
“The Reesors have always given generously of their time, their expertise and funds,” added Rehmann. “It’s folks like the Reesors who make our community strong, dynamic and inspiring in which to live. We are honoured to be recipients of our community’s generosity just as we are honoured to be able to continue to serve seniors and their champions in Camrose and County.”
The Battle River Community Foundation exists to support organizations such as this in East Central Alberta, which benefit the local communities and have a positive impact on the future.
Grants from the Battle River Community Foundation are primarily made possible through the generosity of individual donors and organizations that have created endowment funds. The principal of these endowment funds are kept intact and the income is made available annually to support local projects and organizations.
Since it was founded in 1995, the Battle River Community Foundation has granted over $7,900,000 to support charitable activities in the Battle River Region.
To learn more about SOS Camrose (Service Options for Seniors), contact Christina Rehmann, program director, at 780-672-4131.
To learn more about the Battle River Community Foundation, contact Dana Andreassen, executive director, at 780-679-0449.
Battle River Community Foundation secretary Stephen Kambeitz left, and By Reesor, second to left, look on while Sue Reesor, third from left, presents the cheque to Christina Rehmann, program director.
Central Agencies Home of the Week
West end two-storey home
By Lori Larsen
No need to worry about renovations with this brand new twostorey home located in the west end of Camrose near shopping, restaurants, parks and the golf course.
A quaint front porch greets you and your guests as you enter the home. Classic grey-toned laminate flooring and crisp white finishes add to the already bright airy feeling you get from the open concept floor plan.
A large front window floods the living area with natural light which streams into the dining and kitchen area.
Soft coloured maple cabinets, striking stylish grey-toned backsplash tile, stainless steel appliances and granite countertops give the kitchen a clean modern vibe. Plenty of cabinet space and a fantastic pantry offer tons of storage.
The stunning laminate flooring continues into the main floor two-piece powder room and a very convenient main floor laundry area.
Upstairs, the family can retreat to the three bedrooms, including a primary bedroom with its own private four-piece en suite and walk-in closet, and a four-piece main bathroom.
Head out the back to the deck where you can sit and enjoy barbecuing or taking in fresh air.
Back alley access gives you plenty of room for parking or building that future garage to your own specifications.
With plenty of room for a growing family, this home is located at 700150 Avenue and is priced to sell at $319,900. Join Al-Karim Mohamed at an open house on Saturday, April 9 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. or, for a private viewing, contact Al at:

I keep hearing it takes a village to raise a child. Does the village just show up? Is there a number to call? I think they are having trouble fi nding me. New dieting tip! Just fi ll up your car’s fuel tank and you won’t be able to afford groceries. How do you tell the gender of an ant? Drop it in water. If it sinks – GIRL ANT. If it fl oats – BOUYANT. I now know how it will all end for me: one of my kids will unplug my life support so they can charge their phone. I went to visit a psychic. I knocked on her front door and she yelled, “Who is it?” So I left. Is an argument between two vegans still called a beef? Four-year-old: “Why do you go to work?” Me: “They pay me a salary.” Four-year-old: “I don’t even like celery.” My husband asked if he had any annoying habits and then got all offended during my PowerPoint presentation. We do not throw away perfectly good food in our house. We put the leftovers in Tupperware, put the Tupperware in the fridge, let it go bad and THEN throw it out. People think I’m crazy when I talk with my cat. What am I supposed to do? Just ignore him when he asks me a question? Exercise for people over 60: Begin by standing on a comfortable surface, where you have plenty of room at each side. With a five-Ib. potato bag in each hand, extend your arms straight out from your sides and hold them there as long as you can. Try to reach a full minute, and then relax. Each day you’ll find that you can hold this position for just a bit longer. After a couple of weeks, move up to 10-lb. potato bags. Then try 50-lb. potato bags and eventually try to get to where you can lift a 100-lb. potato bag in each hand and hold your arms straight for more than a full minute. After you feel confident at that level, put a potato in each bag. I got thrown out of Jubilee Park after arranging the squirrels by height. They didn’t like me critter sizing. Some parents run a tight ship. I run a pirate ship. There’s swearing, drinking and occasionally mutiny from the crew I created. Kid: “My sandwich has too much peanut butter on it.” Me: Makes new sandwich. Kid: “This one doesn’t have enough peanut butter.” Me: Makes one just right. Kid: “I don’t like peanut butter anymore.” Remember when teachers used to say, “You won’t have a calculator everywhere you go.” Well, we showed them! My tolerance for idiots is extremely low today. I used to have some immunity built up, but obviously there is a new strain out there.
Why English Is Hard to Learn We’ll begin with box; the plural is boxes, But the plural of ox is oxen, not oxes. One fowl is a goose, and two are called geese, Yet the plural of moose is never called meese. You may fi nd a lone mouse or a house full of mice; But the plural of house is houses, not hice. The plural of man is always men, But the plural of pan is never pen. If I speak of a foot, and you show me two feet, And I give you a book, would a pair be a beek? If one is a tooth and a whole set are teeth, Why shouldn’t two booths be called beeth? If the singular’s this and the plural is these, Should the plural of kiss be ever called keese? We speak of a brother and also of brethren, But though we say mother, we never say methren. Then the masculine pronouns are he, his, and him; But imagine the feminine ... she, shis, and shim! – Anonymous
