By Lori Larsen Every student de serves the same opportu nity to succeed at school, to be the best and do the best they can, despite whatever circumstances they may be facing in life. In an effort to ensure this is the case, Camrose & District Support Ser vices (CDSS), Camrose Family Resource Centre (CFRC) and Staples (Cam rose) have partnered again this year in the Tools For SchoolsDuringcampaign.themonth of August and up until Sep tember 11, the employees at Staples (Camrose) will be asking customers if they would like to donate to the Tools for Schools initia tive by either purchasing supplies to be donated or through cash donations. A bin is also set up at the front of the store for cus tomers to drop off dona tions of school supplies, which could include un used or unopened supplies left over from previous years.Staples will then pro vide CDSS and CFRC with vouchers to distribute to families in need that reside within the Camrose Coun ty or the City of Camrose. The vouchers can then be redeemed for a grade spe cific, prefilled backpack from Staples. The back packs come in various styles and colours to suit all ages and individual preferences.“Theprogram reduces a known barrier prevent ing children and youth from successful learning and participation in school: access to school supplies,” explained CDSS executive director Lyndel Kasa. “There are many fami lies who cannot afford the supplies needed for school, and this year the need will be greater due to the economic impacts of COVID-19.”Camrose and District Support Services reaches individuals and families in the City of Camrose, Cam rose County, and the vil lages of Hay Lakes, Bittern Lake, Edberg, Bawlf and Rosalind, providing pre ventative social programs and services that help peo ple improve quality of life and enhance capacity to deal with crisis situations

Armena holds annual market to support Refugee Centre

“Every Labour Day Monday (except during CO VID-19 restrictions), Ar mena has had a tradition of running a market where people can set up tables and sell locally made goods and food. It’s a very popu lar opportunity to social ize and support local small business. (I’m particularly fond of the homemade pies!) Our Armena Athletic Asso ciation had already decided that they wanted to turn this event into a fundraiser for the Camrose Refugee Committee, and now our Scandia Lutheran Church in Armena has agreed to partner with them and in vite the refugees and their hosts out for the day. We want the newcomers to get a sampling of rural Alberta hospitality,” added Olson. Armena Athletic Asso ciation chair Ernie Lange explained the partnership between the organizations. “We wanted to cre ate an event that involves the community and brings people together in a social setting. The market has been going for more than 12 years. We also wanted to help Ukraine families who have come into this area. We want to help support them because they had to leave and didn’t bring a lot of things. They need help to restore their lives,” shared Ernie.“I feel we have been the lucky ones over the last three years when you see what is happening around the world. Even local peo ple, young and the old, have been deprived of social in teraction. Now we have an opportunity to support peo ple from Ukraine,” added Ernie.“We have a community market and it was meant to be a way to get the people of the community to get to gether. This year, we want to create awareness and support for the Camrose Refugee Centre. We have people who want to sup port it in some way. The money we raise or collect from donations will be go ing directly to the Refugee Centre,” added AAA vicechair, Clark Banack. “They will set up a booth and we will have some people from Ukraine at the market. Our goal is to have every one come out and enjoy the day.” serv ic e charge), company cheque with major ID GS T will apply on some items. All accounts must be paid in full before removal. RCMP offers reporting missing persons steps, tips

The Alberta RCMP Missing Persons Unit would like to remind the public about the key things to re member and steps to take when reporting a missing person.1.Do not wait to make a call. The sooner police are aware or notified of a miss ing person, the sooner a search can begin.

GOING THIS HARVEST Over

2. You can report a miss ing person from anywhere. You do not have to wait to get back home–call the po lice from wherever you are, report what you know, and ask for help. 3. Provide as much detail as you can. It is helpful for the investigation to have as much detail as possible, including recent photos and description and activity of the person. 4. Photos are impera tive. Provide investigators with recent photos that are ideally straight-on profile, without filters that could obscure or alter appearance. Alternatively, provide links to social media accounts where photos can be found. To report a missing per son, phone 911, walk into your closest police station or call a complaint line. For Camrose RCMP detach ment, the non-emergency/ complaint line number is 780-672-3341.TheRCMP also ad vise that if you have travel plans, ensure that you pro vide someone you know with your written itinerary.
